A week had gone by since Rachel's punishment began and this weekend she was due to spend with her auntie whilst her family headed to New York to see Mercedes who was co-hosting some RnB award show, so as she packed her overnight bag excluding her electronics she sighed looking at the picture on her bedside table of her and Kayden taken when the two first started dating but her train of thought was disturbed by a knock at the door.
"Rachel, can I come in?" came Madison's voice from the other side of the door.
"Sure" she replied watching as her younger sister entered dressed in her favourite frozen leggings, a pink dress with Elsa on the front, pink UGG boots and her hair brushed back into two French braids.
"Mommy asked me to tell you that we will be leaving in twenty minutes because we need to stop by granddad house to pick up some things for auntie Mercedes" Madison explained sitting on the edge of Rachel's bed playing with the end of her plait.
Rachel smiled beckoning Madison over to the dressing table in the corner of her room taking out the make-up her mother used on her when she was Madison's age and they were going out somewhere special, the little blonde's eyes lit up as she sat on the stool remembering to keep still as her older sister applied the make-up.
"You know I'm sorry Mads, I have been a rotten big sister lately which I know has made you sad but I promise to start being a better sister to you and Elijah so how about when you get back from New York I will see if mom is ok with me taking you out for the whole day, we can go shopping, see a movie, get our nails and hair done, then go to build a bear and the Disney store plus we can go out for lunch and then maybe surprise mommy, daddy and Elijah with a meal out" Rachel suggested to Madison whose eyes were so wide she was frightened that they were going to pop out of her head.
"YES YES YES YES PLEASE" Madison squealed throwing her tiny arms around the brunettes neck who hugged her sister back smiling when she saw her mom stood in the doorway winking at her mouthing 'Good Job Baby'.
Arriving at Santana's the family bid goodbye to Rachel who'd spent the entire car ride either singing with her siblings or being lectured on the rules and behaviour expectations of this weekend but Rachel knew that her Auntie Santana would waver some of the punishments so that the two could have an awesome weekend, entering the all too familiar house she left her shoes by the door were they belonged, placed her jacket on the hooks and her bag to the side deciding she would unpack later as she smelt the sweet smell that was her Aunt's famous brownies, she found the Latina in the kitchen singing her heart out to Alicia Keys This girl is on fire one of her favourites she was clad in denim shorts and a tank top letting her long black hair fall in waves down her back.
"Hey Auntie Tana" she greeted kissing the older woman's cheek before pulling up a seat on the island.
"Hey trouble maker" she teased knowing her niece hated that nickname.
"Mom said she will call when they get to New York to check up on everything and I better not come home with any piercings again this time" Rachel relayed giggling as the two of them remembered when Rachel turned 13 she came home with her belly button pierced which did not go down well with Quinn or Sam.
"Ok, I promise not to mutate your body this time, maybe a tattoo next year" her aunt laughed winking.
The two chatted for a little bit longer before the sound of a car pulling up outside brought an end to their conversation as any minute now a mini Santana would come bursting through the door after gym practise, Santana had a daughter the exact same age as the twins little miss Alejandra or Alex as she preferred to be called was a spit fire, she definitely took after her mother with her gorgeous olive skin, big brown eyes, long black wavy hair and strong personality the mother and daughter were close having never had a male figure in her life she called daddy Alejandra depended on Santana to teach her everything from doing her hair to defending herself in a fight.
Santana had fallen pregnant not long after Quinn who became ecstatic at the thought of her baby and her best friends baby being the best of friends which Santana found both exciting and scary as everyone knows how much trouble her and the blonde created as children, the father of Alejandra was unknown to everyone except Santana who claims that it was just a one night stand and she didn't need a man to help her raise her daughter and rightfully so as the minute Alejandra was handed to her she swore to always protect her little miracle from the evils of the world.
"MAMI" Alex shouted as she ran into the kitchen.
"Hey munchkin, how was gym?" Santana asked picking up the tiny girl who immediately reached for a brownie.
"It was good Coach said I am improving on bars and beam but I need to start working on floor and vault if I am to qualify for the team next competition season, so I asked Taylor and Chloe if I could come over and use their gym to practise and they said yes, could I sleepover tonight?" she asked nibbling on the brownie having not noticed Rachel yet.
"Sure mija but I want at least half your homework list completed before you leave and your room tidied, deal" Santana replied wiping chocolate off of her daughters face.
"Yes mami, whose bag is that in the foyer?" she asked her eyebrows furrowed.
Rachel cleared her throat looking amused when Alejandra's face lit up as she struggled to get down so she could hug her big cousin.
"Ray when did you get here, are you moving in? Madison said you got into so much trouble the other night but now you're being nice" the eight year old rambled much the amusement of her peers.
"No I am not moving in, Madison knows tattling is wrong and I am here for the weekend so I can spend time with my favourite cousin and auntie" Rachel answered watching as Alejandra shrugged before cartwheeling out of the room.
Once Quinn had called to reassure them that they'd arrived safely and given Santana the all clear that as long as Rachel was with her she could leave the house the Latina decided to treat her two favourite girls to dinner at Breadsticks as a reward for Rachel's behaviour this week and so far this weekend, the three clambered into a booth mother and daughter immediately grabbing a bread stick in each hand causing Rachel to laugh they ordered drinks before Alejandra began the rundown of her week only quieting when the food was served in which case her mouth was too full of spaghetti to talk which gave Santana and Rachel a chance to chat about school, later that afternoon once Alejandra had been dropped off at her friend's house with a promise to behave and a time was arranged for pick up tomorrow Santana and Rachel headed home for a night of movies and girl talk without little miss motor mouth interrupting every five minutes.
"So I was thinking tomorrow we could pick Alex up early, go for some breakfast then do a bit of shopping or catch a movie then maybe tomorrow night you can invite Kayden over for a meal" Santana suggested watching her niece's face start to glow at the mention of her boyfriend.
"Really?!, mom said I was only allowed to see him under supervision so yeah that sounds awesome thanks Tana" the brunette beamed hugging her auntie tight.
"You're welcome but you stay within either ear or eye shot the entire time he is here and when I say it is time to say goodnight I want no tantrums or you will be spending the rest of the weekend in her room, understood?" the Latina stated giving Rachel a look to show how deadly serious she was.
Rachel nodded running to the house phone to call Kayden who sounded a little off but agreed telling her he would be over for six tomorrow night, once Rachel put the phone down she returned to the living room to find her Aunt going through a stack of paperwork probably progress reports from teachers and she dreaded to think what was written about her when she spotted hers next on the pile, she slowly walked up behind her aunt whose head was down obviously writing something she reached out her hand just grazing the folder when a voice startled her.
"Nice try missy but you really need to work on your sneaking skills" Santana piped up looking up from her folder amused at the pure fear on the teenagers face.
"I was just looking Tana" she said innocently, sitting down on the ottoman opposite.
"How about I read yours out loud and you just happen to be in the room" she suggested picking up the folder and watching as Rachel wrung her hands together.
Clearing her throat Santana began, "Rachel is a hard working pupil whose assignments are always in on time and presented beautifully. I am very impressed with her progress in my lesson but her attitude towards me as a teacher and other pupils lets her down, she talks back, argues, makes snide and occasionally rude comments, she distracts the other pupils and seems to make a habit out of leaving when she pleases" Santana looked up her eyes full of disappointment to see Rachel wiping her eyes her head hung low.
Placing the folder to one side she took her niece into a hug letting her cry knowing the young girl was sorry for everything she'd done and it also made Santana wonder if there was an underlying reason to the girl's behaviour towards adults more than children but she thought it would be best to discuss that with Quinn as a principle not an Aunt, it was a good twenty minutes before Rachel's cries stopped just the sound of her sniffling filled the room as she sat up allowing the Latina to wipe away the last of her tears.
"Sorry" she whispered hanging her head once again.
Santana took Rachel's face in her hands, "Don't apologise I know something is going on to cause this behaviour which you know you can tell me if you don't feel comfortable talking to your mom or dad but you don't have to, we all have our secrets Ray but we must not let our secrets tear us apart and anger us" the Latina said
Rachel nodded cuddling back into her aunt who was more than happy to just hold her niece knowing this was the teenager's way of apologising and telling her she loved her, then the phone rang causing the two to break apart whilst Santana went to answer it and Rachel picked out a movie choosing "Step Brothers" which both her and Santana loved but when Santana came back in she seemed angry which only meant one thing.
"Abuela?" she asked treading carefully.
Santana nodded pulling at the tassels on her sofa throw.
"What she want?" Rachel pried.
"She is in town next weekend but doesn't want Alex to see her so can I keep her away from mami and papi's" she replied her pulling becoming more aggressive.
Rachel rested a hand on Santana's, "She has no power over you Santana, Alex has no idea who her bisabuela is so if she asks then just say a friend of your parents" the brunette explained.
Santana chuckled, "When'd you get so wise missy?" she joked laughing when Rachel hit her with a cushion.
"Mum watches ALOT of and Oprah" she replied giggling as she saw her aunt trying to keep her jokes in.
The rest of the night went smoothly filled with laughter, chatter and wrestling but the next morning Rachel woke up in a foul mood slamming every door she came into contact with, slamming objects she was handling down and to make matters worse ignoring Santana's requests completely.
"Rachel stop slamming doors this instant, you're not three" the mother would demand being mindful not to shout but use a firm tone.
Rachel's mood meant they were half an hour late picking Alex up who pouted when Rachel refused to pick her up or even say hello, the whole car journey to the Mall Rachel kept turning the music off which in turn upset Alex and annoyed Santana who was desperate to try and get her niece to open up but she knew Rachel wasn't going to budge and by the time they arrived Santana was ready for screaming but then she saw something that made her lose her temper as Rachel noticed Alex leaning against the door she pulled it open watching her cousin fall out onto her back.
"RACHEL BARBRA EVANS, HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID AND CRUEL, GET BACK IN THE CAR NOW" Santana yelled as she picked up her crying daughter holding her close.
Rachel stood there in shock, it was like she'd just been snapped out of a trance as she watched her aunt try to soothe Alex, "Auntie Tana I..I..I" she stuttered.
"Don't even speak Rachel, I don't even know who you are anymore" Santana snapped viciously.
The colour drained from Rachel's face as the latina's words stabbed her like a million venom filled darts, she took off ignoring the cries to come back but all she could hear was her aunt's words over and over again in her head.
