We spent hours searching for the missing Mawkingees, yet there was still no sign of them. "Can't we just go back to the TARDIS and scan for their lifeforms or something?" I asked the Doctor. He gave me an incredulous look.

"My TARDIS does not simply scan for lifeforms like on some sort of Sci-Fi television show. She is much more sophisticated than that."

"What the Doctor is trying to say" River interjected, "without actually admitting is that he is unable to do so."

"Why not?" I asked her.

"The Time Storm is interfering with the TARDIS's scanning abilities" River explained.

"So we're pretty much going into this blind?"

"More or less" she responded.

"Wonderful," I muttered. "Where the hell can they be? It's not like they evaporated into thin air or something?"

"Violet, repeat what you just said" the Doctor piped up.

"What, them not disappearing into thin air? What does that have to do with anything?"

"Well, the Mawkingees didn't actually disappear into thin air. But, if this is a time storm, they could have been absorbed into the cracks of time."

"So how do we get them back?" I asked.

"We don't" the Doctor solemly informed me. "Once they're absorbed, they've been erased from all of time and space for good."

"Well then, we're just going to have to hope you're wrong!" I stated. "So, what do you guys propose doing next?"

"We'll cover more ground if we split up" River said. "The Mawkingees couldn't have traveled more than a mile since they were last seen…"

"So each of us branches out a mile" I finished for her. River nodded. "What if we don't find them. What then?"

"Let's cross that bridge if and when we come to it" River told me.

"So which way are we all going?"

"Violet, you head due south" the Doctor told me. "River, you head north north east and I'll head northwest west."

"I'm going to give you each communication devices" River stated, reaching into her pocket and pulling out two silver chip-sized things. These things have an open 3-way connection. That way if anyone should find anything, we can alert the others." She handed one to me and one to the Doctor.

"So how do I work this thing?" I asked River.

"You don't have to do anything other than speak. It'll pick up your voice and the Doctor and I should be able to hear it and trace your exact location."

"From this little thing?" I skeptically asked.

"Yes, from that little thing" River responded. "Now, let's get going. Good luck everybody."

"Thanks" I responded. The Doctor simply nodded. So I turned south and began my trek. I had walked about a mile and had seen absolutely nothing of significance. "Nothing here," I spoke into the com-device. "I'm turning back now."

"Copy-that, Violet" River responded. As I was about to turn back around I felt something grab me. Inadvertently, I dropped the com-device and let out a scream.

"Violet, what's going on?" I heard the Doctor say.

"Violet, do you read me. Please respond" River said right after. I couldn't respond however as there was something covering my mouth. I tried to fight to get away, but their grip around me grew stronger.

"We have the Time Child" a deep voice said before there was a flash of light and then nothing.
