Chapter 4

"The past can't see you, but the future is listening." -Terri Guillemets

I followed Alaric in the house and we found Mason and Jenna in the kitchen. Mason was holding shot glasses in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.

"Oh, the expensive stuff! I like you already." Alaric said. I grinned behind him. Alaric's acting skills were impressive. I made a mental note to tell him later.

Mason shrugged at him. "Just happy to be invited."

"Thank Rick. It was his idea." Jenna greeted me with a hug and took the bottle of wine from me.

"Really?" Mason asked him clearly surprised.

"Yeah, you know, I thought it would be nice to meet some of Jenna's high school friends." Alaric scratched the back of his head nervously. "Dig up a little dirt." He grinned.

"I've got dirt." Mason chuckled and shook his head. "I've got dirt." He poured us each a shot.

"I have no secrets. Only dirty shame." Jenna grinned proudly. I laughed and Jenna's eye's widened. "And apparently I'm rude too," she gestured to me, "Mason, this is my best friend Erin Scott."

I shook Masons hand and grabbed a filled shot glass from under him.

"To dirty shame," I cheered raising it in the air. We all clinked our shot glasses.

"Hey" Damon interrupted before we took the shot.

"Damon," Jenna sighed.

"We were just doing shots. Let me give you a shot glass, buddy." Alaric said and looked around for an extra glass.

"Here." Jenna quickly took her shot then shoved the glass in Damon's chest. "Use mine" She quickly left the room and Alaric followed.

"She doesn't like me very much" Damon said to Mason.

"We haven't met. Mason Lockwood," Mason held out his hand.

"Oh sure. Damon Salvatore," Damon shook his.

"I know. I heard great things about you," Mason said and I snorted.

"Really? That's weird 'cause I'm a dick," Damon smirked and Mason left the room leaving only Damon and I in the kitchen.

He shook his head at me. "He's so smug isn't he, I'd like to-" I grabbed onto Damon's arm tightly as I felt a familiar feeling shudder through my body.

I was getting a vision.

Here's the thing. When I get visions in unexpected places, like in public, it sometimes tends to freak people out. My eyes change to a frosty white color and my pupils dilate. My face is stone and I can't hear or react to anything around me. It's an out of body experience and I can't control it. Fortunately by now I am able to familiarize myself with the feeling and handle myself in various situations.

Damon looked at me as I grabbed his arm and he jumped. I couldn't warn him. The vision came too quickly.

"Okay, that's not weird or creepy," he grabbed me by my shoulder and turned me to face the window as if I was looking outside.

Tyler was carefully looking at a stone. The front door opened and he quickly shoved it in his pocket as Mason walked into the living room

"How was that barbecue?" Tyler sounded nervous.

Mason shrugged before answering. "Not great. Are you still pissed?"

"Are you still keeping secrets?" Tyler countered.

"Yep." Mason began walking out of the room.

"Then I'm still pissed. Hey, you know I was thinking about that stone you were looking for," Tyler hesitated "I might know a couple places it could be."

Mason froze and turned around. "Do you think this is a joke? If you know where it is then tell me"

"Tell me how the curse triggers," said Tyler.

"Well, if I tell you you won't be able to think about anything else and I don't want that for you."

"I think I could handle knowing," Tyler sneered at Mason.

"Think you could handle it tough guy?" Mason laughed, "You have no idea." He shook his head at his nephew.

"Do you want your stupid rock or not?" Tyler asked before Mason shoved him against the wall.

"Tell me where it is!"

"Tell me what triggers the curse!" Tyler snapped as Mason held his shoulders to the wall.

"YOU HAVE TO KILL SOMEBODY" he roared in his face.

"You left me out there to handle Mason myself! That's not the plan" Alaric said walking into the kitchen.

"Well I wasn't aware she" Damon pointed at me "would be going into a demonic like state."

"What's wrong with her?" Alaric looked at my eyes as he came closer.

"I think she's having a vision."

"Well at least we know she's not lying to u-"

I inhaled sharply and Damon and Alaric jumped back.

"Welcome back" Damon said to me sarcastically. How long was I out of it? I shut my eyes tightly trying to avoid the aftermath. Currently I was looking at three of Damon Salvatore.

"I'm sorry," I blinked quickly.

They watched me closely as I tried to regain my surroundings.

"Are you okay?" Alaric asked me as he held my shoulders in place.

I nodded. "That was a quick one."

"Shh" Damon pointed to his ear before pointing to the living room. "Later" he said.

We ate and afterwards played Pictionary. My vision happened just like I saw it and while it was so hard for me not to laugh at Damon's horrible artistic ability or shout out the answer before Mason, it gave me a chance to observe.

It was clear Mason knew what Damon was hinting at. He was irritated and shifty. It wouldn't be long before he snapped.

I decided to follow Damon into the kitchen as he got dessert ready with Elena to warn him.

"Aunt Jenna is getting tipsy," Damon mused to Elena.

"Will you stop plying her with alcohol?" Elena replied taking the pie Damon brought out of the box. "How is operation Lockwood?"

"He's my new BFF," Damon grinned at us.

"Uh, yeah about that," I said, "Your new "BFF" is getting suspicious."

"Did you see that in a vision?" Elena asked wide eyed.

"No, it's just obvious. A couple more jabs and he's out of here, Damon." I warned him.

"There you guys are. Isn't this fun!" a drunk Jenna skipped up to me.

"Yes, thank you so much for inviting me." Damon said to Jenna and put his arm around her. I rolled my eyes at him and shook my head at Elena.

"Hey Erin, can we talk later?" Elena asked me as Damon and Jenna talked privately.

"I have some questions, you know, about your visions. If that's okay."

"Sure," I nodded. "We can grab coffee or something this week." I grinned.

Although more people knew about my ability than ever before in my life, it felt good. I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.

We both followed Jenna and Damon back into the dining room.

"Mason, why don't you start us off?" Damon gestured to the pie he set on the table and tried handing Mason a knife to cut it with. A silver knife. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think silver is a major weakness for werewolves.

"Sure," Mason proceeded to take a rather large piece of pie with his bare hands and ignored the knife completely.

He chuckled at all of our faces.

"I apologize, I'm an animal" he glared at Damon. I knew it. He knew that we knew. I glanced at Alaric across the table from me with wide eyes.

Alaric cleared his throat before saying "So Mason, you and Jenna never dated?" Good save Rick.

"She was always lost in Logan Fell land." Mason grinned at Jenna who sat in embarrassment with her face covered.

"My first mistake. Mason was a catch; he had girls lining up." she patted his arm.

"Really? I always pegged you for a lone wolf." Damon blurted and I wanted to punch him.

"Nah, I'm sure I wasn't half the lady killer you were. How about a toast? To new friends." Mason rose his glass.

I had a very, very bad feeling.

"You know Mason," drunk Jenna smiled at me and nudged Mason. "Erin's single."

My eyes widened and I almost choked on my drink.

See, Jenna always tries setting me up. She means well, but unfortunately her judgment isn't the best. I've learned from experience to kindly decline but to thank her in the nicest way possible.

"I am," I shrugged sheepishly. "My only relationship recently has been with a text book."

"I like smart women," Mason grinned and Jenna's smile widened. I looked to Damon for help. Luckily Elena swept in to save me by excusing herself from the table to leave with Caroline.

"Let me see you out," I blurted and followed them to the front door.

"Thank you," I hugged Elena and she laughed. "Coffee this week is on me." I said to her.

"What are you doing? Mason's a total hottie." Caroline scoffed at me.

"Werewolves aren't really my type," I half whispered while grinning at them. To be honest, I shouldn't have a type. Dating is difficult when you're a Seer. All of my most recent relationships had ended because I could see my boyfriend cheating on me before he actually did. I had yet to meet anyone worth my while

After they left I found Damon and Mason in the kitchen. It looked like there was some sort of confrontation going on. I quietly walked in and stood next to Damon.

"You expect me to believe that you are in Mystic Falls planting peach trees?" Damon asked him jokingly. I'm guessing Mason had finally confronted Damon.

"I lost my brother, my nephew lost his father. I'm here for my family. Let's be above this." Mason stuck out his hand and Damon shook it hesitantly after a few moments. Mason seemed friendly but I didn't buy it.

He winked at me as he headed back into the living room and I stared at Damon.

"Now what?" I held out my arms.

Damon set his drink down and took a silver knife out of the cutlery box nearby and shoved it in his jacket quickly.

"Now, we put the dog to sleep."

"No more takers for drinks at the grill? It's like I am with a bunch of adults here," we could hear Mason in the hallway.

I looked to Damon next to me to see if he wanted me to go with him. He shook his head at me.

"I prefer the term "Role model" Jenna said.

"Okay. Well, thanks for having me, it was awesome." He hugged Jenna. "Alaric, catch that game next week?" he asked shaking Alaric's hand.

"Yeah, I look forward to it." Alaric nodded at him.

"You know, we should probably head out too," I said to Jenna.

"We?" she asked me as Mason left.

"I'm heading out too," Damon responded and grabbed Jenna's hand. "Jenna, you are a wonderful hostess." he said kissing her hand.

I rolled my eyes at Alaric.

"And you are a terrible artist." Jenna said taking her hand from his grip.

I laughed at hugged her goodbye.

"Alaric, let's not catch that game next week." Damon grinned before leaving. I laughed and followed behind him after giving a final wave goodbye to Jenna and Alaric.

"Come on" Damon quietly said to me as we left.

I drove with Damon to the grill and and pulled up behind Mason at Mystic Grill.

"This should be interesting" Damon commented before parking his car. He handed me an extra knife he had grabbed from Jenna's and I quickly shoved it in my pocket.

"I'll take care of Mason. Just help me get him in the back," Damon whispered to me as we walked.

"Damon? Erin? What? More dog jokes?" Mason asked us with a grin.

"Nah, those got old," Damon stabbed Mason with the knife he had and I proceeded to pull the latch to the back of Mason's Jeep down. Damon ran over to help me. I turned around and froze and nudged Damon.

"You know" Mason pulled the knife out of his chest. "I think it was werewolves who started this whole silver myth. Probably for moments like this."

"Dully noted," I was all I could say.

"I was really looking forward to last call. Now you made an enemy" Mason sneered at us before walking away.

Damon and I decided that we'd still get a drink after Mason left. I still had yet to fill him in on my vision that I had earlier at Jenna's.

"What a day," Damon said to me as we both nursed our drinks.

"Is this typical?" I asked half laughing half serious.

"Only when killing isn't the answer," he grinned at me. "What about you? Are your creepy visions typical?"

"Only until recently," I took a drink. "That happens though as a Seer progresses. It was just a matter of time."

"You know other Seers?" Damon sounded surprised.

"Only my grandmother. Her abilities are way stronger than mine," I answered smiling to myself. "Which reminds me. Mason is looking for a moonstone. He asked Tyler to help him find it, but Tyler lied to him. He has it. Tyler see-" Damon held up his hand to stop me and looked like he was listening to something happening around him.

I quickly turned around and spotted Elena sitting with Stefan. It looked like they were arguing about something. Elena looked upset and before long she got up and left.

I turned back to Damon who had heard everything. Suddenly I knew his feelings for Elena were much stronger than I imagined.
