Jadyn's POV

The day of the Yule Ball was quickly approaching and the fact that George and I were a couple was finally beginning to become less of a problem. Almost all of the Gryffindors accepted me, and allowed me entry into the common room to be with my boyfriend whenever I liked, but the Slytherins still refused to acknowledge my existence unless they were tripping me or otherwise bullying me. I tried hard to ignore them though.

One thing that peeved me off though was how Fred still hadn't admitted his feelings to Cairo. He was obviously getting cold feet, but it was stupid. He had seemed so confident about it before.

But I waved off the thought as our little quartet sat together in the Gryffindor common room, with the twins sheepishly explaining about their failed gamble at the Quidditch World Cup. I doubled over laughing. Leprechaun Gold!

Cairo hit them both on the shoulders. "Idiots! Idiots! I told you, didn't I? I told you those weren't galleons!"

"Yeah, yeah, no need to rub it in!" Fred snapped, turning away.

Cairo immediately went red and added, "Well then, what's your plan to get your money back?"

"We're sending a letter," George muttered, going red as well. I started laughing again, as Cairo stared at them with pursed lips.

"I can't tell if you're joking or not," she said finally, and she facepalmed when the twins said that they weren't.

"We just thought he might've made a simple mistake," they said in unison, both looking so cute and guilty that I instinctively squeezed George's hand reassuringly.

"Come on, let's help them, Cairo," I said, not noticing George's fist pump. "They obviously need it."

She opened her mouth to answer, when there was a small noise of an explosion behind us. We turned to see Ron, with his eyebrows singed, staring at where his house of exploding snap cards used to bed.

"Nice look, Ron . . . go well with your dress robes, that will," Fred said, slipping out of his seat by us girls and going to sit with the Golden Trio, George right at his heels. Cairo and I exchanged glances and went over as well.

"Hey Harry. Hey Ron. Hey Hermione," Cairo greeted politely, sitting with them as well.

"Hello Cairo, Hi Jadyn," Hermione replied, smiling at us. We smiled back, and I slid into a seat beside George.

"Ron, can we borrow Pigwidgeon?" George asked.

"No, he's off delivering a letter," said Ron, suspiciously. "Why?"

"Because George wants to invite him to the ball," Fred said sarcastically.

"Because we want to send a letter, you stupid great prat," George said.

"Who d'you two keep writing to, eh?" Ron asked, with even more suspicion.

"Nose out, Ron, or I'll burn that for you too," said Fred, waving his wand threateningly. At a glare from Cairo, he cleared his throat and changed the subject. "So . . . you lot got dates for the ball yet?"

"Nope," said Ron.

"Well, you'd better hurry up, mate, or all the good ones will be gone," said Fred. Cairo was blushing madly at this point, obviously happy that Fred considered her a good one.

"Who're you going with, then?" said Ron.

"Cairo," said Fred promptly, without a trace of embarrassment. Cairo blushed even harder now.

"What?" said Ron, taken aback. "You've already asked her?"

"Yeah, of course I have," Fred said dismissively. "And you saw Georgie ask out Jadyn." He gave a side-glance towards Hermione, asking carefully, "And how about you, Hermione? Surely you have a date."

Hermione looked shocked at this statement, stammering, "Well, yes, I do have a date . . ."

I smiled. "That's fantastic! Who is it?"

"Nobody of consequence," she muttered, blushing.

"I suppose we should be going," Fred said, standing up. "We have to find a school owl. Come on, George . . ."

George scurried after him, glancing back at Cairo and me. "You girls coming?"

"Yep!" Cairo replied. "Bye, Harry, Ron, Hermione!"

"Bye Cairo! Bye Jadyn!" the trio called after us, watching as we exited the portrait hole.

Cairo's POV

Christmas day came faster than I had anticipated it would (none of those days felt like a full twenty-four hours, I swear they were only half that time), and before I knew it, Jadyn and I were preparing ourselves for the ball. She insisted on spending hours fussing over our dresses and hair and everything with Ginny and Hermione. I had to admit though, both Ginny and Jadyn were brilliant with fashion and makeup.

"Cairo," Jadyn fussed, brushing my hair carefully, "I can't help you with your hair if you don't tell me what you want me to do with it!"

"I don't know, just do something nice," I said. "I have complete faith in you."

"Here." Hermione tossed Jadyn a Muggle magazine full of different hairstyles that were 'perfect for when you need to dress to impress'. Right now, Hermione and Ginny had their hands full with Hermione's hair, trying to make it stay flat so that Ginny could actually braid it.

Jadyn gasped at one page in the book, shoving it under my nose. "This one!" she cried, and I had to agree. It was an elegant bun, made of braids and it looked beautiful.

She immediately began to braid my hair, checking the page again every once in awhile to make sure she got it right. I waited in anticipation, feeling rather excited.

I passed the time by watching Ginny tried to tame Hermione's hair enough to look presentable. Hermione seemed rather irritated about the whole process, but Ginny reassured her that it would blow her date away when she was finished.

"Okay, done!" Jadyn conjured up a mirror so that I could see, and I couldn't help but gasp. It was beautiful, almost a perfect replica of the image in the magazine.

"Thank you," I gasped out.

"Thank me later, now we need to do your makeup!" Jadyn grinned. I groaned and she laughed, pulling out her cosmetics.

It was at least an hour later when we were finally finished. Both Jadyn and I looked gorgeous, sure to impress the twins. Ginny looked beautiful too, but Hermione was still getting the finishing touches of her makeup done. We waited patiently as Ginny applied the various colours and hues and whatnot.

Finally, Hermione stood up. She topped all of us, with her hair looking almost perfect (a few loose bushy strands here and there), her makeup on point, and her dress was the most gorgeous dress I had ever seen. She grinned (even her teeth were straighter!) and linked arms with Ginny.

"Let's go, girls," Ginny said, and together, the four of us exited the dorm.
