X11. THIS IS MOTIVATION

Echo was sitting by Draco's bed in the hospital wing.

"You've had your mark removed." She stated.

His eyes were barely open and he felt slow and groggy.

"The order found a new double agent then?" Draco asked. "At least a good one?"

Echo nodded, "Charlie Weasley," she said. Draco felt so confused. The infirmary was too white and it hurt his eyes. There was somehting about Charlie Weasley he needed to remember.

"How long have I been unconscious?" Draco asked then, Echo gazed out the window for a moment.

"A while." She told him, biting her lip. He frowned at her.

"A while?" Draco asked her, worried weeks had passed while he was asleep - he couldn't afford to be out that long. "Harry-?" He managed to ask, she shook her head the news felt more like a blow to the stomach. "How long was I out for," He asked again, "I need a figure, don't pussyfoot around it."

"Six months." Echo stated bluntly. "Give or take a week."

Draco would have been calmer had the girl sprouted another head. "Six months?" He asked to confirm and she nodded. "Whats-" He began but the Matron came over.

"Mr. Malfoy, good you're awake." She waved her wand a bit and poked at him while he waited for Echo's explanation.

"After you took that potion," she began, "You started convulsing, screaming, babbling nonsense, Weasley carried you to a hospital bed and we pinned you down but had no choice but to leave you there and let the potion do its work, you were out pretty quick, and stable, breathing. Asleep really, we just couldn't wake you. Now, the ministry are in hiding, they only surface to cover up for the muggles. Voldemort has been trying to take the castle, he hasn't sieged us just yet but we believe he's working up to it." Echo looked at Draco and took his hand. "Voldemort has taken Malfoy Manor, you're mother is sill alive but I don't know what state she's in right now, saving her is actually the orders top priority, if we can remove her from the manor she can name you official head of the Malfoy home and you can activate the wards, they will either kill or evict everyone in the Manor."

Echo looked drawn and tired, Draco only just realised the Infirmary was full, and had much more staff than just Madame Pomfrey; St Mungo's staff was here too and the wing was packed.

"So what's going on now?" Draco asked. Echo just looked at Madame Pomfrey "Can he leave?" She asked her, Pomfrey nodded.

"Please make sure he eats something, I need the bed." She said, "Take it easy Mr. Malfoy," She added before leaving so Draco could get dressed.

Echo waited outside for him and even before Draco had left the hospital wing someone else was being dragged into his bed.

"I'll give you a tour," Echo said, "Perhaps just explain what's going on here, the dungeons are in use, Death Eaters are down their mostly." They were heading towards the great hall. "Dining hall as usual," She said as they entered, the hall almost unchanged and still familliar, everyone from old to young were coming and going. McGonagall was standing at the head of the hall. The teachers table had chairs all around like the others and behind the tables was a portrait of Dumbledore. The banners and house flags were all proudly displaying the symbol and fiery colours of the Order of the Phoenix. Dumbledore's Phoenix was seated proudly on the back of the Headmistress' chair. "Apart from the Hospital wing and the great hall and dungeons, everything else is used as accommodation. There are a few classrooms set aside for brewing potions and spell casting and other such training and learning facilities."

A bell rang through the entire castle, making Draco jump.

"You wouldn't have been sorted yet would you? I should have explained that, just go sit with the firsties – the newcomers sorry." Echo pushed him towards a group of people of all ages milling around the front of the hall. Flitwick came to them.

"All newcomers are required to be sorted," He began, "Like the traditional sorting of Hogwarts the sorting hat will put you into four divisions of the order of the oheonix, based on your strengths." Flitwick paused. "Stealth, Trainers, Warriors and Researchers."

Draco scoffed at the divisions

The people waiting were told to line up, their names were not called, the hat was placed on their head and it yelled out a house and they went to that table. Draco was three people from the beginning.

He sat on the stool and the hat was placed on his head, it didn't slip over his eyes this time as it yelled out "Warrior!"

Draco froze, and stared at what used to be the Gryffindor table. Echo was sitting there; Sasha was talking to her but wasn't sitting. Draco stood and handed the hat to the next person, who was made a trainer.

There was so few paying attention to the sorting most of the people talking, eating, reading or writing. Children were playing between the tables, small children, smaller than any 11 year old.

Draco took a seat next to Echo, she smiled at him and Sasha rolled his eyes.

"I can't believe how different all the people are being sorted!" He said, sitting next to Draco, "I swear I'm the only one who stayed in the same house." Draco looked up and down the table, noticing there were a lot of Gryffindors still here and that Sasha was exaggerating. "It's good to have you back, Draco." Sasha said to him. Draco managed a small smile. Looking around the hall seeing fellow students, teachers siblings and many, many adults that he recognised from shops and resturaunts in the wizarding world.

The hall quieted considerably when dinner was served, it was the same quality of all previous Hogwarts food but with less selection. It was all healthy and basic.

Draco was eating a vegetable of some sort when the doors for the great hall burst open and Charlie Weasley, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Blaise Zabini came through the doors.

Charlie was slouched heavily and looked extremely tired, he was wearing death eater robes; Draco felt a uneasiness stir in the pit of his stomach at seeing the red head. Blaise was looking as sassy as ever, strong and unchanged, Ron Weasley shocked him, the boy was tall and broad, obviously strong, silent. His face had been scarred, on the left side, his left eye milky and unseeing, he had a proounced limp, and Hermione looked like she did nothing but research now, she was holding five huge books and had about seven more floating behind her. The hall fell silent and McGonagall stood to greet them.

"What do you need?" McGonagall asked loudly.

"The Order needs to meet in the Common room after dinner, please be punctual," Hermione said loudly and turned to leave, Charlie and Ron slid into a seat next to their mother on the Gryffindor table and Blaise rolled his eyes, stacked up a large plate of food and followed Hermione out.

"The Order?" Draco asked, "Who's in the order?"

"McGonagall, Flitwick, Mad-Eye, Bill, Blaise, Fred, Ron, Sprout, Hagrid, Hermione, Molly, Charlie, Luna, Neville, George, Oliver, Narcissa, Myself, Sasha and Anastasia." Came Echo's quick answer.

"Who's decided that?" Draco asked, "My mother? What's going on, is she here?"

"Ok," Sasha said, "Calm down. The Order of the Phoenix is everyone here, but we can't trust all these people, The Order are the leaders of each faction, we get volunteers to come out onto the field with us." Sasha sighed, "I can't say much really, its confidential information, but one of our priorities is rescuing your mother, we're in correspondence, few and far between but she's invaluable for information."

"We better go, Sasha," Echo stood and left, without waiting for him.

"I want in," Draco said, grabbing her right hand before she could go "Please?"

"I'll ask them," Sasha said, "I'll make a case for you."

"Do you have a potions master?" Draco asked, Sasha shook his head, "Bill Weasley has extensive knowledge of potions from his work as a curse breaker but that's the best we have, since Severus died we haven't been able to replace him."

"I can," Draco told him, "I spent most of my time with Severus before Echo came here, I was going to apprentice with him once school was over." Sasha smiled.

"That is certainly a compelling case then, I'll get back to you."

Seven Months Earlier

Harry stretched in bed, her muscles hurt from the physical training with McGonagall yesterday, that woman was a robot, no questions asked, no one can be that old and still do endurance training like that. Harry was not unfit either, she had been working her mind, magic and body to the brink for the past two months and she felt better about it. She felt stronger.

There was a knock on the door, and Harriet turned her head and yelled for the person to come in.

Sinstra meekly made her way into the room, "Come on dear, I have a special lesson for you today," Harriet told her to wait while she dressed and in less than ten minuets she was crossing the castle.

"Are we going into the forest?" Harry asked, Sinstra nodded, She looked around for Hagrid, who was no where to be found.

"I needed an ingredient for a spell I wanted to show you today and came across this, It's so lovely I had to show you."

Harry followed her deeper into the forest until they came across a small clearing. The trees were dense around it and the floor was mossy and wet.

"Here Harry give me you're wand," Sinstra took the Holly stick and pocketed it.

Harry felt a pain in her lower back, it spread and then she felt welts appear on her face and arms, a burning sensation spread up her neck, and she screamed and collapsed.

"Professor!" She heard Sinstra scream, Dumbledore leapt through the branches.

"You found her, thank Merlin," Dumbledore knelt by Harry who couldn't move or speak. She saw behind the headmasters back three death eaters silently come from between the trees.

"Avada Kedavra!" All three sent the spell at the old headmaster and he fell forward onto Harry, dead.

Sinstra reappeared and grabbed Harry's collar.

"Lets go," she told the others and dragging Harriet they went deeper into the forest.

Harriet eventually passed out, but the feeling of apparition woke her with a horrible shock.

"Crucio!"

Harry screamed when the curse connected and tried all she could to reorientate herself. Voldemort was standing above her, his wand in his hand Nagini at his feet.

Harry gasped and spluttered as the curse was released, she desperately tried to look around and find where she was.

"Sinstra, I'm impressed," Voldemort smiled at her, "And Bellatrix, I'm very impressed with this spell."

He took Harry's face in his hands and inspected her closely.

"Put her in a cage," Voldemort said, throwing Harry's head against the ground "don't hurt her yet, I'll begin breaking her when I'm ready, He turned just as he was leaving the room.

"Show her the other experiments."

Harry felt herself being lifted, and dragged. From what she could see, she was in some kind of marbled foyer, and she was dragged through a carpeted dark dining room and through a stone door into a cold stone corridor.

"Lumos," Sinstra lit her wand and led the party deeper into the dungeon, the light to doing little to permeate the dark.

Harriet was thrown in a cage, it was in the centre of the room. Each of the six walls were rusty bars looking at another cell door. There was a person in each of the rooms.

Her cage was well lit, the others were dark, and at most she could make out some crazed eyes and a dirty nose or mouth, teeth bared.

She was thrown in the centre cage and Sinstra stood at the door, "Carrow, strip her." She ordered and a large, short hooded man waddled his way into the little cell and began pulling at her clothing. His nails bit into her skin and he discarded the fallen items on the floor.

"Enough," Sinstra said, Harriet was left in nothing but her plain white bra and a sock.

Carrow left the cell and Sinstra slammed the door.

"Finite," She called and Harry gasped a lungful of air and her head swirled.

She got to her feet as fast as her injuries would allow.

"Now Potter, here's your lesson for today," The death eaters behind Sinstra went to a cage each and opened the door, the prisoners each came out and slowly crawled towards her.

"Pain is a tool used best to ensure loyalty." She looked at the men and women on the ground.

"Perhaps you would recognise some of these faces?" Sinstra smiled.

Harriet looked around, Dean Thomas was looking at her from his place on the floor, the long red hair of Ginny Weasley was mussed beyond help and she was lying on the floor, fingers inches away from the shoes of a death eater, Colin Creevey was there too, looking as broken as the rest of them, Parvati Patil had her back against the wall of Harry's cell. The final person hadn't come out of their cell yet; the death Eater Harry thought was Carrow went in to get them.

"Get of your ass, Robins!"

She squeaked and ran from the cage, not stopping in time and falling heavily on the bars of Harry's cage. She winced and fell to the ground, Harry knew her too, Dezelma Robbins.

The death Eater nearest Ginny stepped forward, pushing the hood back; Voldemort was smiling wide at Harriet.

"What do you think of my collection, girl?"

Harry shook her head and cried. She shut her eyes.

Suddenly the room was dead quiet, she couldn't even hear the candles flickering.

She opened her eyes and looked around, each of her classmates were looking to Voldemort who was speaking, Harry couldn't hear a thing. All the death eaters left and Voldemort waved his hand and Harry's hearing returned with a painful smack.

One the door shut behind Voldemort all the prisoners moved close to Harry's cage, Harry couldn't think of what to say to them.

Ginny was there first and she pushed her hand through the bars towards Harry, Harry crawled over and took her hand.

"Ginny I-" Before harry could finished, Ginny pulled Harry towards her, Harry smacked her head on the bars and Ginny bit her arm.

Harry screamed in pain and shock, pulling her hand away. Each of the prisoners was at her cage, their hands reaching towards her. Harry held the huge gash in her arm Ginny had torn a large piece of skin off and was eating it.

Harry could feel her mind deteriorate, she didn't know how to act, didn't know what to do, she was cold and naked and frightened, so she just screamed.

Sasha sat in his usual spot in the Gryffindor Common room, the Order stayed up here now, the others weren't organised into accommodation by house, mostly they were staying in family groups, and they all waited. Charlie counted the people in the room and took a deep breath.

"As you know I haven't been called for seven months, well I was called last night, Voldemort has Harry, she's alive, but I don't…" Charlie stopped.

Echo stood, "She's been broken," She asked, and Charlie nodded.

"So Voldemort succeeded?" Another nod.

"I don't think we have a chance, she's totally loyal."

"We don't need to worry though, after she's been broken, she's useless, she can follow orders in the most base instinctual way possible she-" Charlie put a hand up and Echo stopped.

"No," He said quietly, "She's competent, I don't know what they've done, but she's, She's scary."

"The others?" Echo asked, the whole room looked at her sceptically, Sasha included.

Charlie sighed, "There are 5 others who have been broken, they're still alive, I didn't say anything because I found out too late, Echo knew, but she had been told they would be killed."

The whole room held its breath.

"Leave Charlie, I'll tell them." Echo stood and went to Molly first, "Ginny was one of the children the death eaters took, during the summer, Mrs Weasley I'm so sorry, you might not want to hear this."

Molly turned white. "She's still alive?" Echo nodded unsurely.

"And what about Arthur?" Molly asked.

"He's dead, Mum," Charlie reminded her. Her face fell.

"Believe it or not," Echo began, "The Dark Lord enjoys reading muggle novels, I assume from his days at the orphanage he gained an interest in them. A book I often noticed him reading was a series by Terry Goodkind, and they had a group in them know as Mord-Sith. These were women, trained to be totally loyal to a leader using pain. The concept intrigued him, he insisted on trying it. It took him an age to decide to break Harry." Echo paused and grabbed her head. "Please know I wasn't aware of this until a week before my father died." Her voice caught and her face caved in for only a moment before she once again composed herself. "I thought he had given up, I don't know. The five students taken, they were trained to be obedient, they are slaves, Harriet's been trained as a fighter, she would still be strong, still have the ability to make descisions; before I left, they had this plan to make her a weapon, an entirely obedient, very powerful servant. She would be like a dog. Pure happiness would come to her from doing what he says, but she's going to be competent too. Charlie says they've succeeded, then our job had gotten much, much harder. If she was unable to cope, she's lost, there's no rescuing her from her own mind."

The whole room was silent, Sasha was shocked, Molly Weasley looked totally lost.

"The other students were for practice they grovel and whine and are useless to them. They were used to break Harry, they are not the same people. They obey Voldemort exactly. They no longer can think." Charlie muttered.

"My lord?" Bellatrix approached the Dark Lord with caution, you had to these days, her Lord was not what he used to be, he was crule, not as clever anymore. "My Lord, our objective-" The Dark Lord spun around and put his hands in the air.

"Has been completed!" He exclaimed, "Harriet!" He called. Miss Harry Potter came through the double doors at the end of the office; she stood tall despite having such a small frame. Her face was still beat up her expression looked deadly.

"Yes My Lord?" She asked, as polite as speaking to a teacher.

"What was my objective?" He asked her, Bella resisted the urge to roll her eyes. This was no fun, killing people was fun.

"My complete obedience," Potter replied.

"And has that objective been achieved?" The Dark Lord addressed Harriet but looked at Bellatrix.

"Yes," Potters voice echoed through the room and Voldemort raised a stupid eyebrow at Bellatrix.

"The Order of the Phoenix has had seven months to build their forces. We've done nothing but train Potter, and there's still no evidence that she's actually obedient!" Bellatrix snapped her stupid mouth shut a sentence to short.

The Dark Lord raised his wand and Bella closed her eyes.

"Wait, My Lord, she has a point," Potter said, "If you want to dominate the wizarding world, there's a huge number of more than capable wizards who will stand in your way."

Voldemort considered this. "Fine, I need time to think!" he then swept from the room.

"Is that acceptable, Mistress?" Harriet leapt to her knees at Bellatrix's feet.

"What?"

"You told me to obey him, I have been as best I can, I didn't want him to hurt you, Mistress."

Bellatrix put her hand in Potters hair and yanked it up, Harriet stood, looking like she enjoyed the pain.

"You're loyal to me?" Bellatrix's eyes narrowed as she stared into Harry's Green ones.

"You did my training, you rewarded me for obedience, you ordered me to follow the Dark Lord, I am yours."

Bellatrix growled and slapped the girl hard against her cheek.

"I have displeased you!" She cried, grovelling at Bellatrix's feet.

Bellatrix considered the situation. She loved her lord. Didn't she? She loved him. He never loved her, he's so taken with his knew pet, the one she made for him, that was hers all along.

She looked at the fresh red handprint on the girls face. Harriet was smiling up at her with the most adoring expression in her eyes – no one had ever looked at her like that, not Echo, not Rodolphus, not he Lord.

Voldemort wasn't as powerful as he was before, his quality had diminished, as had hers, but perhaps, if she got that quality back, that certain special something that made her powerful and dangerous and terrifying she would have the chance to bring his back too, and they would be powerful and dangerous and terrifying and motivated together.
