Set in the anime, starting with the end of the Twelfth Angel attack, Shinji, along with NERV, find themselves having to deal with the unexpected, and very unimaginable arrival of a new generation with a tie to the hurtful past. Since there is an infinite number of alternate universes, the same scenario can be visited over and over again, with different results.

After Third Impact, Shinji Ikari is gifted a new start. With a new resolve, Shinji realizes he can change events for the better.
