The fourth chapter of Pure Hearts.

Thank you for the comments and for following/favoriting this story.

This is where Lily meets the trolls and finds out she is not appear of what she is and she had no idea what had happened or how it happened.

Gandalf might hold the answer, or possibly Radagast the Brown Wizard. But they want to be double sure of what they are dealing with.

Also note, I will be adding dragons from How to Train Your Dragon (Because I really don't know alot of dragons other than Smaug that is in the Hobbit franchise) and I do not own any How to Train Your Dragons dragons and the Hobbit. (Wish I did. XD)

Here we go.

Chapter 4: The Trolls and Lily's Potential

Lily felt someone shaking her shoulder gently, making her come out of her dreaming state and fluttered her eyes open, which she was greeted by Balin, who was smiling gently at her. "Up and at 'em, lass. We're about to leave, but I need to look at your ankle to see if it's healing right."

Lily nods and she slowly sat up, seeing most of the dwarves packing everything up and Bofur putting out the fire that was low from being burning the entire night they set up camp. Lily looks at Balin as he gently placed his hand on her ankle. "Any pain when I touch it?" He asked, Lily answering him by shaking her head.

"Try moving it."

She nods and slowly moved her ankle. It doesn't hurt as it did last night and she smiled. "It's fine, Balin. Thank you."

He nods, then helps her stand up. "Just, umm...don't tell my dad what happened...I think he'll have a stroke if anyone told him." Lily whispered, then looks over at her father and Balin nods, keeping it a secret for now. But she knew that sooner or later, Bilbo will find out and she'll probably get a scolding out of it. Lily walked over to her horse and mounted, since her backpack was already and packed, which she tried to look among the dwarves to see who packed it, but couldn't tell.

She then shrugged a bit and followed the dwarves from the back.

Lily looks up to see rain clouds heading their way and she placed the hood of her cloak over her head as it starts to drizzle softly, the smell of rain in the air. She pets her horse on the side of the neck and it snorted, shaking it's head as it kept walking. Lily saw how her father was having a conversation with Gandalf from up front and she kept to herself, stretching a bit

"Thirsty?"

She saw Kili next to her as he offered her his cantine of water and she smiled, taking it gently. "Thank you." She took a sip-

She nearly choked on it, since it had a weird taste in it. This was NOT water.

"What's in there?" She coughed, handing it back to him as she kept coughing. Kili sniffed and stiffed a bit. "Sorry, this must be Fili's. He usually adds alcohol into his water." He hands Lily his cantine this time and Lily took it. "Well...I gotta admit...it's strong." Lily said, clearing her throat now that it's out of her chest. She took a sip of the water and she was relief that it was water.

"Sorry...I always get mine and my brother's drinks wrong." Kili smiled sheepishly and Lily waved her hand at him. "It's fine...just wasn't expecting an after taste." Lily smiled a bit. "So...is it true?"

"Huh?"

"You killed a Warg?"

"How did you-"

"Uncle told me, Fili and Balin." Kili said, looking ahead to look at Thorin, who was riding his horse behind Bilbo. "Wait...he's your uncle? I didn't know that." Lily said, looking at Thorin as well. "He looked after me and Fili for years." He smiled at the memories they had and Lily smiled at Kili. "Well...sorta, yes."

"Sorta?" He asked.

"I made it fall off a cliff."

"Ah...well...it still counts."

Lily thinks for a moment, thinking that it does count and Kili chuckled, seeing her thinking too hard. "You'll hurt yourself if you keep thinking too hard like that." He said, patting her shoulder and she got out from thinking and she looks at him, blinking in surprise.

"Sorry...I get too lost in thought." She smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her head. "I can tell." He said, chuckling.

They got to a resting point, where Lily was a bit nervous about when she saw burnt houses. "We'll rest here for the night." Thorin called out when they all dismounted from their horses.

"It would be wiser...to move on." Gandalf said, looking around, then looks at Thorin. "We can make for the Hidden Valley." Thorin walking past him. "I will NOT go near that place."

"We have a map that we cannot read. Lord Elrond can help us." Gandalf said again, Thorin narrowed his eyes, turning towards the old wizard. "I do not need their advice." He growled and Gandalf narrowed his eyes before walking past the other dwarves. "Gandalf?" Lily asked.

"I have enough dwarves for one day." He growled under his breath, walking away. Bilbo looks at Bofur, confused a bit. "Is he coming back?" The hobbit asked and the dwarf can only shrugged as Gandalf disappeared.

It was soon night time as they set up camp. "He's been gone for a long time. Shouldn't he be back by now?" Bilbo asked, walking back to the others, Lily sitting by a rock as she had her journal out, but looks up to see her father as he walked passed her. "He's a wizard. He does as he chooses. Here." Bofur hands him two bowls of soup. "Do us a favor an' take these to the lads." He said, mentioning Kili and Fili, who were watching the horses. Bilbo walks off and Bofur whacked Bombur's hand when he was going to sneak another bowl of soup. "Stop it. You had three enough."

Lily chuckled under her breath, continuing to write down things in her journal, which was was slowly starting to write into a language she didn't know and she stopped, shaking her head and closed her journal.

"What was that about?" She thought, shaking her head to clear her thoughts. "You alright, lass? Ya need somethin'?" Bofur asked, looking at her with concern. "No, I'm fine. Just clearing my thoughts is all."

"Alright, if you insist."

Lily opened her journal again as she looks at the writing. It was a strange writing she never saw or did before and it was starting up ever since a few years ago. She never told her father about it, thinking it might scared him, but she doesn't know what to think or do. Maybe Gandalf might know, but he isn't here with them for the moment. Lily noticed how her father was gone for awhile, including Kili and Fili.

"They've been gone for awhile." Lily said, worried right now.

"Lily, you stay here by the campsite. We'll go looking for them." Thorin said, standing up. Of course, Lily wanted to protest, but Thorin gave her a look and she winced a bit, but sat down in her spot again; not wanting to anger the dwarf prince.

He went with the other dwarves to find the two youngest dwarves and the hobbit. Lily sighs sadly, sitting down by the camp fire. "I thought he would let me help at least..." Lily thought, poking the campfire with a stick. It soon turned to minutes, then to nearly an half an hour and she stood up. "That's it. I'm going after them." She went into the direction where the dwarves went and she could hear yelling and three deep voices. Well, two deep voices and one high screechy one.

She then stilled at the source.

The dwarves were bagged, including her father.

Half of them were over a fire, being rotated.

And three large Trolls. She never seen Trolls up close and she knew they meant business.

"Don' bother cookin' them. We can just sit on 'em and turn them to jelly!" Tom, one of the trolls said, making the dwarves yell more in protest, struggling in the bags they were in and the other dwarves that were tied up and over the fire also struggled as much as they could, but really couldn't due to the fact they were tied up good. "How am I suppose to get them? These are three trolls that can squash me in seconds." Lily thought.

"They should be sauteed and grilled, with a sprinkle of sage." Bert said, making sure that all of the dwarves won't escape from them "Oh, that does sound nice." Tom said, getting the pot ready for their meals.

"Dawn ain't far away, let's get a move on...I don't fancy being turned to stone." William said, rotating the dwarves that were over the fireplace. Lily saw her father hopping up to one of the trolls, since he was in a bag himself. "Wait! You are making a terrible mistake...I meant with the, er, with the seasoning." Lily raised an eyebrow at her father. "What is he doing?" Lily thought, looking at her father weirdly.

"What do you know about cookin' dwarf!?" William asked, narrowing his eyes at the Hobbit, but Bert stops him. "Shut up and let the, er, furbrbrbl-Hobbit talk." Bert said, looking at the hobbit curiously. Bilbo thinks for a moment. "Yes, the secret to cooking dwarf is...er umm..."

"Yes...come on, tell us the secret." Bert asked, impatiently. "Yes, yes. The secret is..."

Lily leaned forward of what he was going to say, the dwarves looking at Bilbo as well. Bilbo looks away slightly and got something.

"...to SKIN them first!"

Lily covered her mouth, a blush over her face of what he said. "DAD!" Lily thought. The dwarves were also not happy of what Bilbo said and were retorting angrily at him, struggling more.

"Tom, get me filleting knife." Bert smirked. The dwarves were still yelling angrily at Bilbo of what he just said.

"I'm not gonna forget that! I won't forget it!" Dwalin shouted, pointing at Bilbo, since he was on the rotator with some of the dwarves. Bilbo seemed to wince a bit, but he didn't show it.

"What a load of wubbish! I've eaten plenty with their skins on. Scoff 'em I say, boots an' all." William growled, not believing the Hobbit one bit. Tom smirked as he went over to a dwarf. "He's right. Nothin' wrong with a bit o' raw dwarf." He picks up Bombur as he struggled. "Nice and crunchy." Tom smirked-

"Not that one! He's infected!" Bilbo shouted in protest.

"Huh?" Both Tom and Bombur asked, looking at Bilbo. "Eh, wut?" William asked, also having a weird look on his face. "Yeah, h-he's got worms! In his...tubes." Bilbo said, making it all up. Tom dropped Bombur and the dwarf landed on a few, which a few were groaning of his weight. "In fact, they all have. They are infested with parasites, it's a terrible business, I wouldn't risk it. I really wouldn't."

"Did he say parasites!?"

"We don't have parasites! YOU have parasites!"

Bilbo rolled his eyes a bit, sighing. They weren't getting that this was wall part of the plan. Thorin realized what was going on and kicked one of them and the dwarves stopped, looking at Thorin, then at Bilbo and then:

"I've got parasites as big as my arm!"

"Mine are the biggest parasites! I have huge parasites!"

"I've got nits!"

"Yes, I'm riddled!"

Lily was doing her best not to blow her cover as she was laughing silently, covering her mouth still. William walked up to Bilbo. "What would you have us do then? Let 'em all go?" Bilbo shrugged a bit. "Well..."-

"You think I don't know what you're up to? This little ferret, he's taking us up for fools!" William growled and Bilbo jerked his head. "Ferret-

William suddenly felt rock thrown to the back of his head and he growled, looking around for the source. "Oi! Who threw that!?" He shouted, but there was no one to been seen where the source was. Another stone hits Bert on the back of his head and he shouted in pain. "Quit hittin' me, Tom!" He shouted, pushing the troll, which the troll had a confused look on his face.

"I didn' do it!"

Lily smirked to herself, having stones in her hands as she got ready to throw another one-

She was grabbed by one of her ankles and was lifted into the air. "Look what I found! This lil' ferret was the one throwin' rocks at our heads!" Bert said and Lily stilled as she struggled. "I don't know what you're talking about! I was just passing by!" Lily shouted and Bert growled. "Yer lyin'...I'm havin' meself a snack." Lily saw how he openedhis mouth and Lily shook. She was scared.

Beyond scared.

She was going to die by being eaten by a troll.

She clenched her eyes shut, shaking.

Then a sound was heard. It was like a humming noise and the trolls look around confused. "What is that?" Tom asked. The dwarves were also looking around, wondering what was making the noise as well. Bilbo looks around and looks at Lily, where the source was the loudest at as she was shaking still, her eyes clench shut.

"She's having a panic attack...but this one is different-"

His thought was interupted when a roar was heard and wings flapping. A four winged dragon hovered in front of the dwarves as it roared at them, hovering and was growling. The wind that the dragon's wings were producing was powerful as it pushed the three trolls back a bit and it made Bert drop Lily. She was still shaking and her eyes were clench shut. The dragon roared at the trolls, still hovering few feet above the ground.

Then another dragon showed when the humming sound was getting louder. The entire body was on fire as it roared angrily at the dwarves and lands beside Lily, curling it's tail around her, hissing at the trolls. "GET 'IM-"

"THE DAWN WILL TAKE YOU ALL!" They trolls saw Gandalf.

"Who is that?"

"No idea..."

"Can we eat him too?"

Gandalf then slammed his staff on the boulder he was standing on and it splits in two, making the sunlight shined upon the trolls and they howled in pain, their skins slowly turning to stone until they were completely frozen in stone. Of course, the dwarves would have cheered, but the two dragons were still near Lily as Bilbo tried to near her, but the dragon's mouths were ignited in flames, ready to attack when commanded.

"P-Please, she's my daughter."

Of course, the dragons didn't listen to him, still having Lily behind them.

Gandalf rushed down and the two dragons roared at him, but then stopped when they saw that he was a friend of Lily and slowly backed up. Gandalf kneeled infront of Lily and gently grabbed her shoulder.

"Lily, it is alright. The danger is gone now."

Lily was still breathing shaky breaths, still releasing the sound that she had no idea she was making and she was clenching to Gandalf's sleeves on his arms, still shaking horribly. "Lily, the danger is over. You can stop now. You are safe now. Your father is here and so is the other dwarves. I am here as well." He starts to rub her shoulder gently as it slowly starts to cease her shaking.

She looks up at him. "G-Gandalf?"

"Yes, it is me." He smiled sadly.

She choke on a sob and he held her close, knowing that she was scared of what just happened as the two dragons flew off. Her fingers were clenching to the front of his cloak as she was sobbing, scared and confused of what just happened. "It's alright...you're safe..." Gandalf whispered, rubbing Lily's back in order to comfort her. He knows she's scared and doesn't know what just happened. But he might or possibly Elrond.

"Would you mind telling me what just happened?" Thorin asked, but was a bit angry that there were more dragons and Lily happened to summoned them. Gandalf knew what he was thinking off. "Lily does not know what happened nor has the knowledge of how she had done it. And if she did, her father would know and she would have told you. So she doesn't know what happened."

Thorin looks at Lily, who seemed to calmed down and pulled away from the old wizard and she noticed he was staring at her.

"Th-Thorin, I...I have no idea...p-please you have to believe me...I have no idea..." She choked a bit, starting to shake and Bilbo rushed over to her and hugged her. She hugged him back, her face buried into his shoulder as she sniffed.

It was later when they realized that the trolls had a cave nearby since they were mountain trolls, not use to the sunlight since they belong far in the south. LIly was behind the group, not saying a word to anyone as they found the cave.

Lily sat at the mouth of the cave, having a cloak over her thanks to Gandalf. She didn't feel like talking to anyone, not even to Bilbo.

She heard someone sat down next to her and she looks over slightly to see who it was. It was Kili and he smiled sadly at her, sitting down next to her. "How are you feeling?" He asked, rubbing her back gently.

"Honestly?" She looks at him and he looks back at her. "...terrified."

"It'll be okay. I'm sure that Thorin will understand. You didn't know about it." He kept rubbing her back and she sighs shakily. "...I hope so." Kili pats her back before going back to the others. Lily sat by herself, still trying to think what just happened-

"Lily."

She looks up to see Thorin, who had a sword that was sheathed for now and he hands it to her. "This one might suit you more than the others." She slowly took it from him as the handle of the sword was an emerald green, but it had a large emerald jewel in the middle of it and it looks brand new. She looks at Thorin when he was about to walk away.

"Thorin...I really didn't know that I could do that...I don't even know how I did it." He stops and looks at her for a moment. "I really didn't know...honest." She said, her head low-

She suddenly felt his hand on the top of her head and loosk up at him surprised.

"I know you can't control of what has happened...but we'll find out what has happened and how you can control it. Understand?"

She nods. He pats her head before going to the others and she looks at the sword, but stood up and followed the others when Gandalf said that something was coming. Lily saw six large rabbits that were in reins as a sled came by as there was a wizard, but was wearing a brown cloak as he came to a halt. "THIEVES! FIRE! MURDER!"

"Radagast. What on earth are you doing here?" Gandalf asked, walking up to the brown wizard from behind. Radagast turns around, looking at the grey wizard. "I was looking for you, Gandalf. Something is wrong."

"What's wrong-" Lily was interrupted when a howl was heard. "Was that a wolf? Are there wolves out here?" Bilbo asked and Bofur shook his head, knowing that howl from anywhere. "Wolves? No, that is not a wolf."

"Wargs..." Lily whispered, having her sword out and held it with both hands. She then noticed the sword that was on the ground. "That is not from the world of the living." Radagast said and Gandalf looks at it before picking it up. "The Greenwood is sick, Gandalf...a darkness has fallen over it! But worst, are the webs."

"Webs? What do you mean?" Gandalf asked, looking at Radagast. "Spiders, Gandalf."

Lily gulped a bit, knowing that whatever they're talking about is personal business and the brown wizard mentioned the word 'spider' and they meant no ordinary spider. "They came from...Dol Guldur." Radagast whispered to Gandalf and Gandalf had an eyebrow raised. "But the old fortress is abandoned?" He asked, but Radagast shook his head.

"No, Gandalf...it is not..."

Gandalf looks at him. Now concerened. "A dark power dwells in there...it is the shadows...of an ancient horror. One that can summon...the spirits of the dead."

Lily gulped again, now scared of the abandoned fortress.

"A Necromancer, has come!" Lily looks at Radagast, which Lily saw a weird look on his face, but she didn't say anything as Gandalf got him out of the trance. They heard the howl again and they look around. "We have to get out of here." Dwalin said. Radagast had an idea and got on the sleigh as the rabbits were still there in their reins, ready to go.

"I'll draw them off."

"These are Gundabad Wargs. They will outrun you!" Gandalf said, but then saw a small smirk on the brown wizard's face. "THESE are Rhosgobel rabbits." The smirk grew wider on the wizard's face.

"I'd like to see them try."

And then he was gone, giving them enough time to run off.
