Chapter Six, my little hatchlings!
We arrive at Chapter six and we are near the end of the first movie of the Unexpected Journey. Thank you all for following me and giving me critiques of my stories so far! I really appreciate it and I will do my best to improve the story and my writing as much as I can.
So they are in the middle of a Thunder storm, but they didn't know that Stone Giants were in the middle of a thunder battle and Thorin and company were in the middle of it and the worse of it after, they face an entire race that they didn't want to go near anymore.
Lily tries to help them, but only think she gets in the way until she stood up for one of them from one of the enemies.
So here we go.
Chapter Six: Storm Battle and Goblin Town
Thunder boomed and lightning flashed in the dark sky; rain pouring down on the company of Thorin Oakenshield.
They were still traveling on a mountain side as they were now far away from Rivendell by now, trying to reach to Erebor before Durin's day came and the secret door to the Lonely Mountain be gone forever until next Durin's day. The wind blew hard as did the rain, that hit them hard like tiny rocks; all that is protecting them is their cloaks that they wore.
"Hold on!" Thorin called out as they kept traveling through the storm.
Lily stood behind Dwalin and was in front of her father, Bilbo as they stayed on the mountain path. Bilbo nearly slipped as the rocks crumbled a bit and Bomfur and Lily managed to grab him before he fell. "You okay!?" Lily called out through the storm, thunder booming.
"I'm fine!" He called back to her.
"We need to find shelter!" Thorin shouted out to the others and Lily perked her head up when she heard something and she looks around. Her keen senses also kicked in when her alpha secrets were revealed to her, her hearing, sights, smell, touch and taste advanced more-
"Look out!"
A large boulder came out of nowhere and crashed along the mountain side where they were and they all tucked between the trail they were on, avoiding the boulders that crashed down above them. Lily covered her head with one of her arms as the mountain rumbled from the boulder's impact. "What was that!?" She shouted, looking at Thorin and she saw Balin stiffed a bit when he looked ahead of the thunder storm.
"This is no thunderstorm!"
Lily heard more rumble and saw a figure moving away from the mountain...a very large figure.
"It's a thunder battle! Look!"
The large figure grabbed a part of one of the mountains, creating another boulder and Bofur was amazed of the scene. "Well, bless me! The legends are true! GIANTS! STONE GIANTS!" He shouted, the stone giant throwing the large boulder over their heads and hits another giant that was behind them, taking the impact of the boulder against it's shoulder and head and crashed among the mountain side.
"Cover your head, you fool!" Thorin shouted over to Bofur as couple of dwarves grabbed him and made him stay down to avoid being hit by the rocks that the boulder left behind from the impact. Then, the ground they stood also shook and they tried to regain their footing without falling to their dooms. Lily then stilled when she saw the ground cracking.
"...we're on one..." She whispered to herself. It was moving more.
"WE'RE ON A STONE GIANT!" She shouted.
They were separated in two of the group of the dwarves, standing on the stone giant's knees as it woken up from it's deep slumber and joined the thunder battle of the other giants. When the large giant stood up, it received a head-but from a giant from the side and it roared loudly in pain, falling back against the mountain and Thorin's group was near the mountain trail they were on before.
"Go! Go! Go!" Thorin shouted as they struggled to get off the stone giant while it was down. Thorin tripped when he got to the trail, but the rest of the group managed to make it before the giant stood up once more and he saw the other group still on the other giant's knee
Lily was with the other half of the dwarf group, including her father; on the other knee of the stone giant. "Everyone hold on!" She shouted as the large beast was battling another in a hand-to-hand combat. "Look out!" One of the dwarves shouted when the stone giant's fists were near them and hits the giant with a large impact, rocks crumbling down near and upon them. The stone giant won it's battle against it's opponent.
Lily then stilled of what was happening next. "EVERYONE DOWN!"
The head of the stone giant was knocked cleaned off when another threw a boulder at it, it crying out slowly until it echoed through the storm; the head crashed above where Thorin and his group stand at and they managed to duck, avoiding the boulders and rocks above them and the group passed the others. The body of the stone giant swayed before it was slowly crashing down the mountain side that was not too far from Thorin.
"NOOO!"
The body of the stone giant slowly slid until it fell off the mountain side.
Thorin rushed over to the sight, fearing the worse of what happened to one of his nephews; Fili was in that group! Including his other men!
And the worse of all...
Lily and Bilbo were in that group as well.
"Please..Please, Mahal, don't let it be true!" Thorin thought, going over to the source, along with the other dwarves. "No! Fili!" He ran faster, but also being careful of not falling over the mountain side as well. When he reached over, relief ran over him when he saw the group was fine, only in piles as they were groaning a bit, but was also relief as much as Thorin.
"They're alive! They're alive!" One shouted. Bofur stood up, looking around and he seemed to stilled a bit.
"Where's Bilbo!?"
Lily stilled as well, looking around. "Dad!? Where are you!?"
"Where's the Hobbit!?"
Lily then stilled, her skin pale when she saw Bilbo hanging onto the edge of the cliff with his dear life. "DAD! GRAB MY HAND!" Lily laid on her stomach and held her hand out to him and he struggled to grab it, his foot slipping each time he tried to get his footing. The other dwarves also try to grab him and Bilbo nearly slipped, but was still hanging onto the edge of the trail with his dear life.
Thorin managed to jump down, hanging onto the edge of the cliff with one hand and grabbed Bilbo by the scruff of his shirt and managed to help him up, the other dwarves grabbing the Hobbit and when he nearly got up, the rock crumbled and he nearly fell, but Lily grabbed his hand.
"Hold on, Thorin!" She shouted, trying to hoist him up, but he was heavier than her and it was easy for him when she nearly slipped off the cliff when the Warg attacked her. She was nearly losing her grip as well, but she kept trying.
"Lily, you're going to get yourself killed!" Thorin shouted, but she shook her head. "You helped me when I nearly got killed by the Warg and I'm not letting you struggle with this!" She shouted back, still trying to hoist him up. Thorin tighten his grip around Lily's hand when she did the same for him. "Dwalin, help me!" She shouted and Dwalin didn't hesitate to assist her as he grabbed Thorin's other hand and they both managed to slowly hoist him back up.
They were all gasping, rain still pouring down on them. "Is everyone alright!?" Thorin shouted and they all nodded. "Thorin! I found a cave not too far ahead!" Balin shouted and Thorin stood. "Let's hurry and take shelter until the storm passes!" He shouted over the storm, thunder booming and lightning flashing above them.
When Lily was about to enter the cave, she saw something at the distant. She narrowed her eyes, trying to see what she saw. She saw very large figure standing on a mountain as it look like a four legged beast and she saw slit and yet wide pupils staring at her from the distance and she could have sworn she heard a roar from it. And it was staring right at her and she doesn't know if she should be scared or not-
A hand clasp her shoulder, making her come out of her trance and looks at Balin. "You alright, lass!?"
She looks back at where she was watching at and saw the large beast not there anymore.
"Yeah, I'm fine!" She shouted.
"Are you sure!?" He asked, concerned a bit as the other dwarves entered the cave for shelter. "Yeah! The storm must be playing tricks on my eyes!" She said and they both entered the cave.
"Dwalin, search the back of the cave. Bofur, you take first watch." Thorin said as they were all taking their resting spots inside of the cave. When Thorin was about to rest in his spot, he noticed how Lily was shivering, in the back of the cave. Then it hits him.
Lily wasn't like the dwarves or like his father. She's not use to extreme climates like they could, after all, she was human still. But she tries to tough it out for the others so they wouldn't worry about it, but Thorin could see it as clear as daylight.
Lily hugged her knees close, still constantly shivering as most of the dwarves were asleep, other than Bofur, who was taking the first night watch and she sighs, rubbing her arm to warms herself up. She then tensed more when she felt an arm around her-
"Relax."
She saw Thorin, who had an arm around her shoulder and let her lean against him for warmth. Her head was pressed against his chest and she could hear the gentle beat of his heart. She blushed a bit, but kept control of her emotions for now as she shivered again from the cold, only making Thorin tighten his grip around her. "You could have said something..." He said softly, but he didn't hear anything from her and looks down at her slightly, thinking that she might have fallen asleep, but it was hard for him to see due to the lack of light in the cave.
"...I've already done things already that slowed us down...so why bother..." She said, not looking at the dwarf prince. Thorin didn't say anything for awhile, but then wrapped his other arm around her, pulling her into a hug and she looks at him slightly, her face somewhat buried into fur part of his coat on his shoulder, her blush deepened. "Lily...remember what I said? It is my job to make sure that everyone in this company is safe and that includes you and your father."
Lily didn't say anything for awhile and after some hesitation, she wrapped her arms around his chest, hugging him in return. "And you have done well so far. You were brave at the events that had happened."
"...then how come that I couldn't save my parents...?"
He looks down at her, feeling her tighten her grip on him. "...if I was brave...then how come I didn't warn my parents about the orcs...all I did was hide and I let them burnt to their deaths..." She choked, sniffing. She buried her face into the fur coat of his shoulder and begins to sob silently. He looks at her, feeling her shoulders shake. "Lily..." He called out to her, but she just kept sobbing silently into his shoulder. He saw her cry once when he saw her confused of when they were captured by the trolls when she got nearly eaten and had no idea how she had summon dragons to help her, but this one...she was crying of the memory of her losing her parents. So all he could do was tighten his grip around her.
"Don't cry..." He whispered, stroking her silky, black hair, which still felt smooth and silky under the touch; which he seemed to smile a bit, but nothing less, he held her close as she kept crying silently into the dwarf prince's shoulder. "What happened that day was not your fault."
"Then...why do I feel like it is...?" She choked.
"There are things that we cannot control, Lily...but I do know this..." She looks slightly at him when he paused for a moment. "Good things always triumphs in the end. Never forget about that." He said and she nods. And he waits for her to recompose herself, having his hand on the back of her head, holding her close. He felt her shoulders stop shaking after awhile. He was about to ask if she was okay, but then felt her slump against him and he looks at her. She fell asleep, her tears still somewhat stained on her cheeks, but she was breathing softly.
He smiled and leaned back; letting her be comfortable. He took a deep breath and sighed, and he closed his eyes, letting his arm rest around Lily's shoulder as he lets the slumber take control of him.
It was probably at least four hours when they fell asleep. Lily was in a comfortable position and she felt so warm.
She didn't want to get up.
But something was waking from her slumber. It sounded...like drums.
Lily fluttered her eyes open, her eyes still stinging a bit from the crying. Everyone is still asleep except for Bofur, who was still keeping the first watch. She stretched a bit and saw an arm around her shoulder. She looks at the source and smiled a bit. Thorin was asleep still, breathing softly as he had an arm around her shoulder. "He looks so peaceful when he's not on his guard." Lily thought, smiling.
Just when she was about to fall back asleep, she heard the drum beats again.
She tensed and sat up slowly, looking around the room as she tried to hear for the source again. Bilbo just woke up and he saw Lily, looking around and she was tense. "Lily?"
"...something's not right..." She whispered and she saw Bilbo's sword glowing. "Dad?...did Gandalf say that the sword glows when danger is near?" She asked and he looks to see that it was glowing blue and they both stilled. She then saw the sand disappearing through the cracks on the ground as if...
...they were on a door.
"Everyone up!" The dwarves jerked awake and before they could do anything, the ground below them collapse and opened up and they all slid down the trap door. They were all screaming, sliding down to who knows where and before Lily tried to grab something to stop falling, they all fall into what looks like a large basket. Lily lands on top of Dwalin and Thorin, Fili and Oin landing on top of her. Lily shook off the dizziness and she stilled when she heard battle cries.
"GOBLINS!"
Goblins were running towards them from a bridge and starts to grab each dwarf. Lily struggled to get away, but goblins were much stronger than what they appear to be, just like dwarves. She was roughly grabbed by her arms and was dragged along with the dwarves. She didn't know where they were going or what they were going to do to them, but she knew it was a bad feeling. A very bad feeling.
The goblins were yelling and taunting them all in their tongue and Lily growled, her pupils become slit to show her anger towards them. They soon arrived to their destination and was presented to the Goblin King and he stepped on a few goblins, who cried out in pain from the huge weight of their king. Lily almost felt sorry for those, but not entirely. He held his staff in his hand as he slammed the bottom of it down loudly as it made a large crack sound.
"Who would be so bold to come armed into my kingdom? Spies!? Thieves!? ASSASSINS!?" He roared at them. Lily nearly flinched, but she didn't and stood her ground, standing next to Thorin as they were both glaring at the Goblin King.
"Dwarves, your maleficence." One goblin said, bowing his head. "Dwarves?" The king growled, glaring at the dwarves. The goblin nods, bowing his head again. "We found them on the front porch."
"Well, don't just stand there! Search them!"
The goblins immediately started to search the dwarves and taking their armor weapons. Lily's staff was taken from her, including the sword that was given to her. The Goblin king smirked, then scowled at the dwarves. "What are you doing around these parts?" He commanded, but the dwarves didn't say anything to them. "SPEAK!" He commanded once more, but the dwarves still haven't say anything.
"Very well. If they cannot talk, we'll make them squawk!" He said and all the orcs around them cheered. "Bring up the mendler!" He shouted, swinging his staff around. "Bring out the bone breaker!" Then he pointed at the youngest dwarf. "Starting with the youngest!" Lily immediately puts Kili behind her protectively-
"WAIT!"
Lily saw Thorin standing up towards the Goblin King and the king smirked at Thorin, recognizing him. "Well, well, well. Look who it is?" Thorin kept the same angered expression on his face. "Thorin. Son of Thrain, son of Thror. KING under the mountain." The Goblin King bowed mockingly, then smirked evilly at the dwarf prince. "Oh! But I'm forgetting that you don't have a mountain!" He chuckled, Thorin clenching his hands into fists. "And you're no king...which makes you nobody, really."
Lily was about to go at the Goblin King, but the goblins stood in her way and Dwalin held her back before she did something stupid. She growled, her pupils turning more slit as her dragon instincts kicked in her blood. "I know someone who would pay a pretty price for your head." The Goblin King chuckled. "Just your head...nothing attached." He chuckled, some of the goblins chuckling as well.
Thorin glares at him. "Perhaps you know whom I speak...an old enemy of yours."
Thorin's shoulders stiffed a bit, but he didn't show it; anger building up inside of him.
"The pale orc that strides a white Warg."
Lily stilled, knowing that there was no other pale orc other than...
"Azog the Defiler...was destroyed." Thorin growled a bit under his breath and the Goblin King smirked at him. "He was slain in battle long ago!" Thorin growled again, glaring at the Goblin King. "So you think his defiling days are done, do you?" The Goblin king laughed and went over to a goblin that hanged on a hook that hangs on rope that travels by a trolley of wheels.
"Send word to the pale orc." He said, the tiny goblin taking down the word. "Tell him I have found his prize." The goblin laughed and went away and Lily growled, still struggling to get out of Dwalin's breath to get to Thorin. She managed to get out of his grip and stood beside Thorin and he looks at her. Lily was glaring at the Goblin King as he walked over.
"And who might you be?" The Goblin King asked.
Lily didn't answer him, still glaring at him as her pupils were still slit and the Goblin King chuckled. "You think that giving me silent treatment will make you as equal as these dwarves, girl. I can do things to you to make you speak to me and respect me."
"...I will never bow nor will I respect to a low life of a king like you." Lily growled, making the Goblin King growled. "You are a pathetic excuse as a king and Thorin is a better king than you will ever be-"
She was grabbed by her throat from the King. "You know...no one ever survives my punishment when someone speaks to me like that. SO let me ask you this..." he brought his face close to hers. "Are you threatening me?"
"I only speak truth...and your fat carcass of a body says it all..." Lily choked on her breath, but was glaring at him with pupils still slit. The goblins around them stilled, no one ever speaking to the Goblin King with such language. Even some of the dwarves were bit surprised of what she said, never hearing her say things like that until now. The Goblin king growled again, glaring at her and tighten his grip around her and her breathing was cut off as she tried to gasp on her breath, but couldn't-
"LET HER GO." Thorin threatened, grabbing his sword from a goblin and unsheathed it, and the goblins immediately screeched in fear of the sword and the Goblin King did as well, letting go of Lily as he climbed onto the throne with fear. "I know that sword! It is the Goblin cleaver!"
Lily was gasping and coughing and a small trail of blood and Thorin helps her stand up, putting her behind him. "The very same sword that wiped out our kind for years that were made by the elves!" The Goblin King shouted, Lily grabbing her staff and sword as well.
"SLASH THEM! BEAT THEM! KILL THEM ALL!"
The dwarves were battling the goblins, grabbing their weapons and starts to slay the goblins that surrounded them, but they just kept coming and coming. Lily's back was against Thorin's as she sliced a goblin by it's throat, decapitating it's head within moments and Thorin thrusted his sword into a goblin's abdomen and it screeched in pain, Thorin then kicked the goblin corpse away. "Thorin, there's too many of them!"
Lily was knocked to the side and more goblins toppled onto Thorin as one had a knife. "CUT OFF HIS HEAD!" The Goblin King commanded. Lily stilled when she saw the goblin pressing a knife against Thorin's neck and was about to pull away to end the dwarf's life. "NO!" lily shouted-
A light suddenly bursted into the room and a large gush of wind force knocked everyone to the ground, sending a few goblins to their death of a large fall; knocking the Goblin King down as well. It turned silent after the light vanished and the fire slowly started up again from their torches. Thorin looks to see a tall shadow figure with a staff in one hand and a sword in the other.
It revealed Gandalf.
"Gandalf!" Lily shouted, smiling as she pushed a goblin corpse off of her. The goblins slowly starts to rise up to their feet and saw the grey wizard. "Take up arms..." Gandalf said to the dwarves as they were slowly getting up as well. "Fight." Lily grabbed her weapons again and her staff. "FIGHT!"
Thorin got up as well, grabbing his sword and they all starts to fight off the goblins again, Gandalf joining them, slaying the goblins with ease. "He wields the Foe-Hammer! The Beater! Bright as daylight!" The Goblin King shouted in fear, the dwarves grabbing their weapons once more and slaying the goblins that stood in their way. The Goblin King growled and charged and Lily saw the king going after Thorin.
"THORIN! BEHIND YOU!"
He heard Lily's shouts and blocked the Goblin King's attack from his staff with his sword, making it knock back the Goblin King as he stumbled and fell off the pedestal, destroying a few of the boards and Lily nearly fell, but Thorin grabbed her hand and kept her on the stand. Gandalf was slaying the goblins and he quickly swifted his sword across one of the goblins' head and it stood still, looking around slightly. Gandalf smirked a bit as he tapped the goblin's head, which it fell off of it's body and the body soon fell after a few seconds when it stood.
"Follow me! Quick!" Gandalf shouted to the dwarves and they look at him. The goblins around them shouted and started to go after them and they immediately started to run, following Gandalf. "RUUNNN!" he shouted.
The Goblins chased after them.
Lily used her staff that was given by Lord Elrond as she smacked a few goblins on the head, her other hand having her sword, slaying each goblin that came near her, following Gandalf and Thorin as the other dwarves were right behind them. The Goblins used ropes to get to the dwarves and Thorin noticed it. "Cut the ropes!" He commanded to the others and some of the dwarves, including Thorin cuts the ropes and the stand that was near them collapsed, taking the goblins that were on ropes with it and they cried out as they fell to their doom.
Kili blocked the arrows that were coming at them with his sword and grabbed a nearby ladder, Dwalin helping him and slammed it down, capturing a few goblins and they pushed forward before making a bridge of the ladder, the goblins falling as well that were captured by the ladder and the group caught up with Gandalf and his group. "Quickly!"
They got to a dead end and Fili cuts the rope, making the stand they were on swinging to the other side. "Jump!" Thorin shouted and a few dwarves got to the other side as the other group swing back, goblins jumping onto them, but were slain quickly and when the stand swing to the other dwarves that made it, the rest jump and Fili cuts the ropes, jumping last and Gandalf managed to catch him as the stand fell.
The dwarves kept running, the goblins still chasing after them. Gandalf used his staff and shot at some rocks, making a boulder fall infront of them. "PUSH!" Dwalin shouted, pushing the boulders; including the others and the boulder starts to roll fast infront of them, squishing the goblins that stand in it's way and fell off the cliff, the others taking the bridge.
"We're almost there!" Gandalf shouted, Lily slaying another goblin by decapitating it's head with her sword. They tried to go over a bridge-
The Goblin King bursted out from under the bridge and they stopped running as the king blocked their path. The Goblin King smirked at them, Gandalf having the others behind him; the goblins surrounding all of them. "You think you could escape me?" The Goblin King asked, then tried to hit Gandalf with his staff, which he managed to dodge it in time and nearly tripped, but the dwarves kept his balance since they were right behind him.
"What are you going to do now, wizard?" The Goblin King asked, smirking. Gandalf poked the Goblin King in his eye with his staff, making him howl in pain. Lily noticed how some rocks were moving and...she doesn't remember rocks having wings and she smirked. She got her staff and starts to wave it, making a sound. The rocks starts to move as it revealed two earth dragons, hearing the alpha call and hovered above their heads.
"The Dragon Alpha..." The Goblin King growled. Lily starts to wave the staff again and slammed the head of the staff to the ground and the dragon's mouths were ignited in flames, ready to attack when commanded. The Goblin king growled and tried to get to Lily, but Gandalf slashed his stomach with his sword, making him howl in pain and fell to his knees. "...well, that'll do it."
Gandalf then slit the Goblin King's throat, killing him and his body fell to the ground. The Goblins tried to get to the dwarves for killing their king, but Lily waved her staff again and the dragons started to blast at the goblins with their fire. But of course, the weight of the Goblin King's body was too much for the bridge and it collapsed, everyone falling that was on the bridge and they all held on, screaming and they reached to the bottom, being crushed by the woods from the broken bridge and other woods that the bridge destroyed.
Lily groaned and stood up; Gandalf assisting her. "Well, that could have been worse." Bofur said-
Lily and Gandalf winced when the body of the Goblin King fell on top of the dwarves, making them all shouted in pain of the weight of the dead carcass. "You've got to be joking!" Dwalin shouted, groaning in pain of the large weight of the Goblin King. They were all struggling to get out of the pile and Kili stilled when he look above. "Gandalf!"
He looks up to see the Goblins climbing down from the walls to go after them, still angry at them for killing their king.
"There's too many! We can't fight them!" Dwalin said, helping one dwarf out from the pile. "There's only one thing that will save us! Daylight! Come on!" He shouted, letting some of the dwarves pass him. "Here, on your feet!" He shouted, helping Oin to his feet and the other dwarves, including Lily were running towards the tunnel path; Lily waving her staff again so that the two dragons could buy them time.
"Thank you! May the great winds protect you both!" She shouted to the dragons in dragon tongue and one smiled at her. "May we meet once more, alpha queen! May the great Bewilderbeast souls watch over you and guide you!" It shouted back at her in dragon tongue and she nods, catching up to the other dwarves and Gandalf as they got to daylight, running out of the cave and they soon came to a resting spot.
"Is everyone accounted for?" Gandalf asked, everyone trying to catch their breath and Lily looks around. "Where's dad!? DAD?!" She shouted and they noticed that the Hobbit was no where to be seen. "Where's the hobbit?!"
"...I will tell you what has happened. He saw his opportunity and ran off. We'll not be seeing our burglar again." Thorin said, earning a glare from Lily. "I know my father, Thorin and I know that he would NEVER abandoned me!" She shouted at him-
"He is not gone."
They all nearly jumped when Bilbo appeared out of nowhere. "He is here." He said, of course, he wasn't surprise when Lily hugged him tightly, which he returned the hug just as tight as she did. "Dad..."
"It's alright, Lily. I'm here." He smiled, rubbing her back. Lily smiled, a tear ran down her cheek. "How did you get pass the goblins?" Lily asked, pulling away and he looks at the others.
"What does it matter? He's back." Gandalf said, smiling.
Whoo, that took forever. I tried to get the scenes just right when they were in Goblin Town because that may be the hardest one I have ever described in my writing days. I wonder how Professor Tolkien and Peter Jackson do it so well? Oh well, that'll be a mystery to all of us, huh? (Laughs)
SO the next chapter, Thorin finds out that his enemy is still alive and they face off each other once more. Lily does something even more stupid that nearly gave Thorin a fright, but that will be int he next chapter.
Until then,
