Hello Lovlies, Here's the new chapy for Trouble's Treasure. THings are getting underway, and also, I've a poll up for possible pairings for the story. Some pairings are already decided, but there's a few that I'm not sure about. I tell you all right now, Bae/Emma is totally a thing, and I've got Regina's new true love lined up, so you don't get a say in that. For those who haven't watched the 3rd season yet, when you lose your true love you get a new one in OUAT, so that's how that's going to work in my story. I think that's it, but please vote! Mostly because there's going to be a bit of a time jump soon, where most of the pre slash will be so I sorta need to figure out theses pairings ASAP. Thanks, hope you enjoy, TA

Chapter 5—Doubts

Hogwarts—Spring Holiday

Harry and the group sat in a secluded spot in the library. After the stone was secure, he had told his friends about the mirror and what it had shown him. Between classes and dealing with Ron Weasley they researched about the properties of the enchanted mirror.

"Found it!" Henry said, they been searching for two months and had yet to find anything. "The mirror is the Mirror of Erised. In most cases it will show the viewer his or her heart's truest desire. Some people, however, see hidden knowledge or see the mirror dispelling secrets."

"What does that have to do with the two people Harry saw?" Hermione asked, trying to make sense of it all. Draco tapped his fingers on the table before speaking his piece.

"Harry, you said you were thinking about your parents, yes?" he continued at Harry's nod. "Well, I'm sure meeting them would be your heart's true desire. Perhaps, the couple were shown to you because, as you noted, you share several traits with them."

"Are you saying that couple could have been Harry's real parents, that the Potters were imposters?" Hermione asked. Draco nodded.

"…I think that whatever their reason was, since I get the feeling my parents aren't dead, for abducting me in heavily connected to Dumbledore," Harry said as he fiddled with his wand. He preferred wandless magic now, but he couldn't let any meddlers know about his new skill. Hermione gasped, she knew the boys didn't hold a high opinion of Dumbledore and Henry, using cool logic, had convinced her the man either had ulterior motives, or was just plain incompetent. However, she was hard pressed to believe the headmaster would condone kidnapping.

"It could be, perhaps your birth parents were very powerful, and Dumbledore was desperate to have a powerful wizarding child he could mould into his perfect weapon," Henry reasoned. Draco tapped his fingers again, it was a habit he exhibited when thinking.

"If I remember correctly, Father and Mother said it was a little shocking Potter had gotten an heir so quickly. The family had been having trouble for a few generations in siring children. James Potter himself was considered a miracle child. It may be James found himself sterile, he couldn't produce an heir, and Dumbledore simply didn't want to lose an influential Light family," said the blond. Hermione squirmed.

"Do we know for certain that Dumbledore is involved?" she asked. She was holding out a last shred of belief in the old man. Harry looked at his friend.

"He'd have to be, Hermione. Otherwise the school's magic would have written my birth name, the name my birth parents gave me, on my acceptance letter."

"Well, we should probably discover if the Potters knew you were abducted, or if Dumbledore deceived them about your origins," Henry said. He wouldn't put it past the old man to have abducted Harry himself and told the Potters Harry was orphaned. Draco nodded.

"Which means, Professor Snape would be a good place to begin the investigation," said the blond. "He's not under the old man's thumb and he's rather good at finding these things out."

"Records at the ministry may also help, and so would records at Gringotts," Hermione said.

"I think that the goblins are more reliable than the ministry," Harry said as he twirled his wand. "Our esteemed headmaster has the majority of the government deep in his pocket, or kissing his arse. I wouldn't put it past the man to have them all switching position every once in a while. The goblins, however, aren't in anyone's pockets. I've heard they've a blood test that determines relations and such. Perhaps it's time to look into my finances."

"We may do that this summer, you are not staying with those detestable muggles again," Draco said. "You shall come home with us, are you returning to the muggle world for holiday, Granger?"

The other two boys blinked, that was the most polite Draco had been to Hermione since they'd all begun being friends.

"Neville has invited me over to his manor for the summer, so that I may learn more about wizarding custom and etiquette, in return for tutoring him in his worst classes. Hopefully next term he won't blow up any cauldrons," she said. Draco near snorted.

"I wouldn't bet on that, if I were you," he said. Henry checked his pocket watch.

"Speaking of potions, it's near time for our lesson with Professor Snape," Henry said getting up. The others followed suit, gathering their books and heading for the dungeons.

Hogwarts—one week later

Snape sat in his favourite chair in his private quarters. The Potter boy certainly was interesting. He and Draco, along with the Ravenclaw boy, had come to him today to explain their doubts of Harry's lineage. Snape had told them he'd look into it. He didn't need to, though. The Potions Master sighed and poured a generous amount of firewhiskey into his glass. The way he always did when he thought of Lily.

Severus was shocked when he'd seen her on his doorstep, along with the werewolf. He'd ushered them into his little home on Spinner's End, before anyone saw two of the Order with a Death Eater. With the two of them was a red bundle, James's son, Snape knew instantly.

"Severus, we need your help," Lily said with her green eyes wide. Snape hadn't heard his name on her lips in so long. It made his heart ache. Severus brought them into his little study, where the curtains were drawn closed to keep distraction out.

"We should start at the beginning," Remus said. "Firstly, I—I want to apologise, Severus. I shouldn't have allowed James and Sirius to torment you, but they were my first friends, and I was terrified to be alone and hated again. So I let them get away with terrible things, and I'm sorry for that. I never relished in it, as they did, and I never approved, but I let them and that's inexcusable."

Severus blinked before nodding his head in acceptance. He could understand the werewolf's thoughts. He knew what that was like, it was the reason he'd joined the Death Eaters after Lily left him, he'd been so alone, and then there were those who also were dark and who accepted him as he was. He had been willing to do such terrible, monstrous things to stay accepted. So yes, he understood, but forgiveness was still a long way in coming.

"I understand, Lily, what could I possibly help you with?" Severus asked. He already knew what ever it was he'd agree, he couldn't deny Lily. Lily looked tearful and glanced at Remus.

"James was sterile. He couldn't conceive, that's how it started," Lily began. She was so distraught as she looked at her ba—no, he wasn't hers. "James tried everything, but nothing worked. That was when we heard of the prophecy. Frank and Alice were expecting, but Albus was worried their baby wouldn't be strong enough, he seemed set on James and I having the prophecy child… However, James couldn't manage it, like I said."

"Yet you have a son," Severus stated. He did not like where this was going. Remus sighed.

"Lily fire called me distraught about a week before Harry was 'born'," the werewolf said. "when I arrived, Lily was crying that Albus had brought Sirius and Poppy with him, they'd taken James and left. Not until they'd locked themselves into James's office and talked for over an hour."

"I couldn't hear anything, nothing at all. They must have charmed the room," Lily said as the baby stirred in her arms before continuing his sleep.

"They were gone the whole week, I stayed with Lily that whole time, she couldn't find him anywhere, nor any of the others," Remus continued. "When they returned, they had Harry with them. Poppy looked a bit concerned but left after Albus explained Harry fit the prophecy but that his parents were dead. He and Sirius said they'd forge the birth certificate, but that Harry was now their son."

"I take it you doubt the truth of that explanation," Severus said. Lily near burst into tears.

"He does things, Sev. Things I've never seen before, magic I've never seen before, and I—I think he has Sight in him," Lily said. "I confronted Poppy about two months after Harry arrived. She wouldn't say anything, but I could tell she was avoiding my eyes because she knew, she knew Harry's real mother is still alive. Sev, I think they had Poppy with them to ensure a safe delivery, I think they took Harry from his birth mother while she was in labour!"

"I've tried to speak to James and Sirius about it after Lily told me about the incident with Poppy. They threatened me when I wouldn't leave it alone," Remus said as Lily tried to control her tears. "At the very least Harry was gotten under suspicious circumstances."

"…Lily, I still don't understand, what do you want me to do?" Severus asked gently. Lily looked up from Harry, her eyes painfully clear and green.

"If anyone can, it's you, Sev. Please, find his birth parents… If they're dead then that's what I'll tell Harry when he's older; but—if they're not. If he was taken from them, then we have to give him back," Lily said in a small voice.

"Lupin, would you give Lily and I a moment?" Severus asked the werewolf. Remus nodded and left the study to wait in the hall. Severus knelt by Lily, and he saw the baby's face for the first time.

"…Lily do you love him?" Severus asked. Lily looked the potions master in the eye.

"Of course I love him Sev, but if he was taken from his mother, then I've no right to keep him. It'll break my heart, but he belongs with his real parents, if they're still out there," She said. Severus hadn't meant the baby, anyone could see she loved the babe, but he allowed her to think that was what he asked. She was too distraught for him to bring up old battles.

"I'll help you, Lily. You know I'll always help you, no matter what," Severus said at her side. Lily gave him a genuine smile and kissed his cheek, the way she'd done throughout their childhood.

"Thank you Sev, I always know I can count on you," Lily said and paused. She looked as if there was something else she wished to say but thought better of it. Severus let it slide as she got up.

"I'll write you when I've got something. It will be in our code, do you remember it?" Severus asked her. The code they'd developed so his father wouldn't find out who she was, and so her nosy sister couldn't read the contents. Lily smiled again.

"Of course I do. I'll never forget it," she said. Severus was sure she had no idea how much that meant to him.

Lily had died the year after that conversation, and they'd had three more meetings. Severus had not stopped looking for Harry's birth parents, and he kept in contact with Lupin, having fully forgiven the werewolf seven years later. Now here was Harry Potter and his friends, holding the same doubts his Lily had. He had scoured the majority of the world, but none of his contacts or leads came to fruition. Severus was beginning to think the answer lay elsewhere. He downed the last of his drink before standing. There was someone he knew who may have the answers.
