Chapter 19
.
Erza stood waiting for Sasuke to pick her up in front of her apartment building. She fidgeted nervously on her feet waiting for him to arrive. A healthy blushed adorned her face when she remembered her bold action last night. She couldn't believe that she kissed him and consequently agreed to give them a chance on a relationship. There were so many questions clouding in her mind right now regarding her relationship with Sasuke. How was she going to act with him? How were they going to react around other people? Were they going to keep their relationship a secret or not? Were they a couple? She wasn't even sure what they were now but she guessed it was safe to define them as a couple.
She saw his car approaching and she schooled her features to mask the giddiness inside her. Sasuke stopped his car in front of her and she wasted no time before entering it.
"Good morning," she greeted without looking at his face. She was too nervous to look at him now. She didn't know why she was feeling this way. It was not like she never had a boyfriend before. She didn't remember feeling like this when she was with Jellal. Sasuke was a different case altogether.
She was forced to look at him when the car wasn't moving. She turned to him with a questioning stare only to be met with his handsomely smirking face. "Why aren't we moving?" She asked.
"We're moving once I get my greeting properly," he answered.
"What-"
Sasuke swooped in and steal a kiss from her, cutting off whatever she wanted to say beforehand. Erza closed her eyes and reciprocate his sweet gentle kiss, enjoying the feeling of his warm lips on her own.
He broke the kiss and looked at her with his sexy smirk. "Now that's my proper greeting. Good morning to you too Erza," he said before he drove them away to school.
Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at the school's parking lot. It was still early but the school was already crowded with students. It was the second day of the anniversary. The students were becoming more excited and eager to enjoy the festive and activity held at the school.
They both went out of the car and Sasuke went to her side to walk with her. "Let me carry your bag," Sasuke offered suddenly.
"You don't have to. It's not that heavy," Erza refused.
"I'm your boyfriend, of course I have to carry your bag. Now, give me that," he insisted with an outstretched hand waiting for her to hand over her bag.
Erza rolled her eyes at him although there was a smile on her face, amused at his attempt to act like the sweet, attentive boyfriend. Hearing him calling himself her boyfriend made her heart beating like crazy inside her chest. So that was how he viewed them now. A couple. Erza was left with no choice but to let him carried her bag and she carried her files with her. She silently looked around and saw that the student didn't pay any extra attention to them as they were already used to Sasuke and her coming to school together and she was thankful for that. She didn't want any extra attention focused on them.
"Hey, are you going to be busy with the council today?" Sasuke asked as they walked side by side to the school building.
She thought about the activity today and what she needed to do. She only needed to meet with the representative from Magnolia High and Konoha High and see Mr. Gildarts afterwards, but aside from that she didn't have any other work that needed her immediate attention. "No, why?"
"Let's go to the festive together. I've been dying for some fun," he said earnestly and how could she say no to that face.
"Sure," she replied with a smile. It must be fun and she felt that she deserved it after working so hard to make this happen.
.
.
"I'll bring your bag with me. You can go straight to the council room," Sasuke said to Erza when they reach the corners that led to the classroom and student council room.
"Okay. Thanks Sasuke," he heard his girlfriend said with a pretty smile sent his way. His girlfriend, he liked the sound of it a lot. "I'll see you later," Erza said before he turned away from him and walked in the opposite direction. He stood rooted on his feet, staring at her retreating back until she was no longer in his view. He couldn't help but feel how lucky he was when she agreed to start something with him. A relationship that he hoped would last a lifetime with her. He would give his all and tried his best to make it work.
Walking to the direction of the classroom, he saw an unexpected sight of Naruto and a white haired girl talking in the hallway not far away from the classroom. He wondered who the girl was, but judging from the different uniform he speculated that she came from Magnolia High. Naruto looked happy talking to the girl, so he didn't want to ruin the moment and opted to quietly walked pass them. But Naruto saw him and waved for him to come. Sasuke had no choice but to comply.
"Hey Sasuke, I want you to meet a new friend," Naruto told him once he was near.
Sasuke stared at him with a rose eyebrow.
"Hi, I'm Mira," the girl said with a cheery smile on her face. Looking at her up close, he noticed that the girl was pretty.
"Hi, I'm-"
"Uchiha Sasuke, I know," Mira interjected. "I heard so much about you from Erza and Naruto," she said still sporting the sweet smile on her face.
"Erza?" He uttered with confusion.
"Mira and Erza are really close friends," Naruto told him. "They used to go to school together. You know, Magnolia High."
Sasuke nodded in understanding.
"I was there at the game with Erza yesterday. It was a great game," Mira said enthusiastically. "I'm sorry about what happened with Jellal and it was a shame that you didn't play for the rest of the game but at least your team won," she said sounding sorry about the whole thing.
Sasuke just shrugged in a nonchalant manner. She must feel sorry that one of her schoolmate started the scene yesterday but it was not her fault that Jellal acted like that in the first place. "Think nothing about it," he said dismissively.
"Mira, you said you're going to meet with Erza this morning," Naruto suddenly announced. "Sasuke is here so that means Erza is also here somewhere."
"Really? If that's the case, I'll go and find her then," she said.
Naruto nodded at her.
"Erza is heading to the student council room a while ago," Sasuke supplied to save the trouble for Mira to try and find his red headed girlfriend at the wrong place.
"Thank you, Sasuke," she thanked him before she turned to Naruto giving him her full attention. "Naruto, I'll see you later," Sasuke heard her say to Naruto.
"Okay," Naruto nodded.
"Bye you two," Mira uttered with a quick wave before she walked away from there and went in the opposite direction.
After he was sure that Mira was out of the hearing range, Sasuke turned to Naruto with a knowing smirk on his face. "So, a new friend huh?" He questioned his blonde haired best friend.
"Yeah, we met yesterday at the game," Naruto supplied before he noticed the teasing look on Sasuke's face. "What's with that look?" He questioned.
"What look?" Sasuke countered playing dumb.
"She's a new friend, that's all there is to it. Don't go and widen your imagination towards something that isn't true," Naruto grumbled.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Sasuke said still playing dumb with Naruto.
"Yeah right," Naruto sneered. "I know what you're thinking Sasuke."
"Whatever, knuckle head. Let's go to the classroom already," he said. They both started their walk towards their destination and Sasuke just couldn't keep his observation to himself. "Seriously dude, I say Mira is totally into you," he commented.
"You don't know that," Naruto protested.
Sasuke rolled his eyes at his best friend. "I know what I saw Naruto," he muttered trying to convince him.
"Shut up," Naruto said with a laugh as he playfully punched Sasuke on the shoulder. And they continued with their bickering as they walked along the hallway to the classroom.
.
.
Erza walked out of Mr. Gildarts' room after a quick meeting with him. A glance to her watch showed that it was already 12 in the afternoon. Her stomach was growling wanting to be fed and she immediately thought of the strawberry cheese cake that she brought from home, stuffed in her bag pack. Erza brought her phone out of her pocket to send a message to Sasuke. She had no idea where he was at the moment but she really wanted to have lunch together with him.
.
To: Sasuke
I just got out of a meeting with Mr. Gildarts. Where are you? Do you want to have lunch together?
.
She sent the message and walked in the direction of the classroom to get her cake while waiting for his reply.
A buzz in her pocket indicated that a message was sent to her. She quickly took it out and read the content with anticipation.
.
New text message: Sasuke
I'm heading to the classroom now. Pretty hungry myself. Naruto suggests having lunch together. Gray, Juvia, Lucy and Natsu will be joining. He even asks Mira to join. Do you mind?
.
She smiled when she read it. She didn't know that Mira had already established contact with Naruto but then again, she was always fact in making her move towards the man that she liked. No one would think that the sweet gentle Mira to be so forward and bold but Erza knew better. What irked her was that the white haired girl didn't even tell her this morning when they met. But it was understandable since they both were busy afterwards.
.
To: Sasuke
I don't mind at all. The more the merrier. I'm heading to the classroom as well. Need to get my strawberry cake in the bag.
.
She sent the message to him while walking there. A moment later, a reply from him came.
.
New text message: Sasuke
Go straight to the rooftop. I'll bring your cake for you.
.
With a quick 'okay' to Sasuke, Erza changed her course and headed straight to the rooftop to wait for him and the rest of the gang.
A few minutes later, she reached the rooftop and saw a familiar girl already sitting there with her own food. "Mira!" She called out gaining the attention of the said friend.
"Erza, you came," she said with her trademark smile.
"Yeah," Erza replied sitting beside Mira with a teasing smile on her face. "So Naruto ask you for lunch huh. You sure are fast in sinking your claw in him," she teased Mira, chuckling in amusement at the blushing girl.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Mira mumbled looking away from her.
Erza smirked at her. "I know your modus operandi Mira", she reminded the white haired girl. Erza saw Mira puffed out her cheek in annoyance. She always did that when someone found out something she wished to keep secret.
"Well, he's cute," Mira admitted slowly. "And it's not like he's taken," she pointed out.
"You're right," Erza agreed. She did think that Mira and Naruto looked good together. "And I wish you good luck," she wished her best friend with a playful wink.
Mira grinned when she heard that. "Say, Erza. Can you tell me a bit more about Naruto?" She whispered in excitement.
Erza once again chuckled at Mira's behavior. She looked like a little girl in her favorite candy shop. "Sure Mira," she replied before she told Mira what she wanted to know and it was not long before they were engrossed in their gossiping mode.
.
.
Naruto walked along with Erza, Mira and Sasuke in their schoolyard after their lunch. Natsu, Lucy, Gray and Juvia chose to roam around other part of the many booths there providing games, foods or exhibition. It was such a fun place to be at the moment and being there with good friends only improved the mood for the better. Mira who was fast becoming a close friend was walking beside him, looking around the place with pure excited look on her face.
His eyes moved to stare at Sasuke and Erza who was walking side by side in front of him. Sasuke appeared to be talking about something and Erza gave him her full attention with a small smile grazing her lips. At the beginning of the semester, he wouldn't even think that the sight in front of him was possible but look at those two now. They looked close.
Too close actually in his opinion.
His mind wandered during the lunch they had a while ago at the rooftop. Erza and Mira were already there when the rest of them arrived at the rooftop and Sasuke automatically went to sit beside Erza. He was sitting too close beside her, their knees were touching but Erza made no protest about his close proximity. Sure their relationship had improved but not to this extent. Sasuke seemed too clingy with Erza. It made him suspicious about their weird behavior. It got him thinking whether Sasuke finally confessed his feeling to Erza and did she felt the same way. A pang of jealousy suddenly went right through him. He knew he made it clear to Sasuke that he was okay if Sasuke chose to pursue a relationship with Erza but that didn't mean it wasn't going to hurt seeing them being close like this.
"So cute," he heard Erza gushed out as she saw the white fluffy teddy bear sitting on the top rack at one of the booth.
"I'll try winning that for you if you want," Sasuke replied looking at her with a meaningful face.
"Really?" Erza asked as her face lit up in excitement. "You need to shoot five bottles out of seven to win that bear. Let's see your shooting skill then," she said with a smirk as she grabbed Sasuke by his elbow and dragged him to the booth.
Mira chuckled seeing their behavior. "They do act like children," she commented with a smile.
Naruto turned towards his companion and nodded in agreement. "Let's go and watch them," he said as they both followed Sasuke and Erza.
Naruto watched as Sasuke shoot the second empty glass with the rubber gun again with success. Erza was excitedly clapping and cheering at him for succeeding in his attempt. Mira joined Erza in cheering for Sasuke and it seemed like his best friend was good at the game as he managed to shoot all five bottles down on the first try, winning the bear for Erza. She was beaming with joy when Sasuke gave the bear to her.
Naruto smiled sadly as he watched them. It could be him winning her the bear and making her smiling brilliantly like that. But he missed out his chance and he accepted the fact that he and Erza were never meant to be together. Maybe it was time to move on.
"Naruto," he heard Mira whispered his name timidly.
He looked at her questioningly. She looked to be sad and he wondered what made her mood changed drastically. "Is something wrong?" He inquired a little concerned for the pretty white haired girl.
"No," she shook her head in denial before she spoke again. "It's just that, do you perhaps like Erza?" She asked him.
He was startled at her question. Was he that obvious with his emotion?
Mira stared at him long and hard with an unwavering gaze, waiting for his answer. He could see that her eyes started to water slightly. It made him thought of what Sasuke told him this morning. Could it be that Mira liked him as in more than a friend?
It felt so long until he decided to answer her with the truth. "I did like her more than a friend once," he said with a small smile. "But Erza and I are not meant to be, you know," he told her. If Mira did like him then she needed to hear about it from him. It was up to her on how she was going to react after that.
"I see," she said with a relief smile on her face.
"Say Mira, I see you looking at that stuffed fox before. Would you like it if I try and win that for you?" He asked nervously, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. On the inside, he wondered how Sasuke made it looked so cool and effortless when he asked Erza earlier.
His nervousness went away when he saw Mira's face lit up in happiness at his offer. "Yes," she answered enthusiastically.
Giving her a bright smile, he declared. "Alright then, I'll try my best," he said feeling fired up to make her happy. He liked Mira. She was friendly, pretty and easy to talk to but he didn't know if he liked her the same way that she liked him.
"Go Naruto!" Mira cheered.
Maybe it was time to find out because it was certainly time to move on.
.
.
Quite a distance away from our favorite couple who stopped at another booth was one Haruno Sakura, eyeing them with envy and anger in her eyes. She couldn't take the sight she was seeing. It seemed liked her Sasuke and the scarlet hared bitch had gotten closer since she last saw them which was yesterday. This was unacceptable. She thought her little plan to make Erza jealous yesterday succeeding in driving her away from Sasuke. That bitch should know her place. How dare she keep clinging to Sasuke when she was just a nobody. She must have used a conniving way to seduce Sasuke for him to act that close to her.
Erza Scarlet needed to be taught a lesson.
Her eyes trailed to blue haired man standing not too far away from her, who was eyeing the same people with jealousy in his eyes. She knew who that man was and she knew his history with Erza Scarlet. A plan formulated in her mind and she smiled evilly as she walked to him in a purposeful stride.
"It's annoying isn't it?" She uttered once she reached him, stopping beside him waiting to be acknowledged by the sole heir of Fernandes Industry. Jellal Fernandes didn't give any indication that he heard her but it didn't break Sakura's resolve. "Seeing the one you love getting chummy with another person," she provoked. "I understand your feeling because that's what I'm feeling at the moment," she added.
Still, she didn't get any reaction whatsoever from the man beside her. His cold hard gaze still fixated on Erza who was walking away from the booth with Sasuke beside her. Sasuke leaned closer towards Erza and whispered something to her ear, making the red haired girl smiled in return. That sight made Sakura's heart burned. "If I really love a person, I will do whatever it takes to make him mine," she said with a hard tone. "Don't you agree?" She asked him with a challenging tone.
At last, Jellal turned and stared at her with a stoic expression. She couldn't read his emotion well and he might act like he couldn't care less about what she said but she knew better. She knew that he agreed with what she said.
Without saying anything, Jellal walked away leaving her smiling to herself. She might have found an accomplice after all.
