Chapter 27

Natsu stared at the form of his brother sitting at the edge of his bed staring at the floor intently. He sat still like a statue since they got back home after Sasuke took off without saying anything the moment they reached the house. And that was half an hour ago. Naruto's face was void of any emotion but Natsu knew that his mind was racing with thoughts about whatever information he gathered from Sasuke when he rode with him.

Information that Natsu himself was still in the dark about.

What could have really happened that made Naruto acted like this. Natsu was a little worried because the only time Naruto ever was silent like this was when he was really angry about something. He was like a time bomb, just waiting to explode and revealed his destructive nature. Naruto was bothered by something, and probably something bad because he sure as hell knew there was nothing remotely interesting in the tiles pattern on the floor of Naruto's room.

There was nothing he could do to break him out of his funk right now. Natsu thought it was better to just leave his brother alone to his deep thought for now. Naruto would talk to him when he wanted to. So with a big sigh and one last look to the silent blonde head, Natsu left Naruto's room with a heavy heart.

.

.

Naruto barely heard the door closing as he was left alone in his room. His thought was wandering to a dangerous and dark path as his mind replayed over and over again about what had happened that made Sasuke go ballistic towards Jellal Fernandes.

"You shouldn't have stopped me Naruto," Sasuke growled out menacingly. His hand was in fist and his face showed pure rage. "Jellal Fernandes should get what he deserved, and that is being buried six feet under."

It was time like this that made Naruto remembered not to mess with Sasuke. His temperament and grudging trait was famous. Being best friends since they were kids, Naruto knew the good and bad side of Sasuke. He knew how dark Sasuke could be.

If killing Jellal had become his goal, he would do anything to do it at all cost. Jellal Fernandes was a monster. Man like him didn't deserve to be left roaming free. Hell, now that he knew the truth, Naruto felt like doing the honor and ended Jellal's life himself. The thought him doing the unspeakable to Erza made his blood boiled.

Erza

Naruto shook his head slowly to purge any dark thought away from his head. The thought of the sweet red head sobered him up.

"Think of Erza Sasuke," Naruto whispered slowly. "I get that you want to kill Jellal. Hell, even I want to kill that man," he said. "But what good will it brings to Erza. She will lose you and I don't think she can face that."

The fire in Sasuke's eyes dwindled down at the mention of his girlfriend's name. Naruto saw Sasuke began to clench and unclench his hand as he tried to control his breathing and his emotion. At least he was making an effort to keep himself in check. As always, Erza held some control over Sasuke and he was glad that Sasuke was rational enough to think this through.

After a stretch if silence, Sasuke spoke. "I need my car," he stated. His face was schooled to vacant expression but the hard edge in his voice was still there.

Naruto eyed Sasuke warily and wondered if the man sitting beside him had truly calm down. "Natsu's bringing it to our house," he uttered.

"Let's go then."

Sasuke took off as soon as he got to his car to who knows where. Naruto was a bit worried for his best friend. He talked some sense into Sasuke's head but who knew if the stubborn man actually heard him. Sasuke was so unpredictable sometimes. That made him dangerous.

Although he advised Sasuke to not act rashly and thought of the consequences of his action, Naruto himself couldn't stop planning how he would make Jellal suffer at his own hand. He had the gallant to plan the gruesome detail of Jellal's demise, but could he actually act upon it?

Naruto shook his head.

No matter how much he thought that he could do it for Erza, he knew that he would hesitate in the end. He just didn't have the courage to end someone's life. He guessed that was the difference between him and Sasuke. In his disturbing state, Sasuke would definitely do the deed. The length he would go to seek justice for Erza showed how much he loved her.

What are you going to do Sasuke? Naruto thought desperately. He didn't know what his best friend's next step was. He could only hoped that he didn't do anything stupid like going after Jellal again.

.

.

Sasuke drove around in his car without any destination in mind. He was driving rather recklessly, accelerating passed the speed limit, but he couldn't care less about it now. He was furious, and he had no other outlet to relieve the anger he felt. Naruto and Natsu depraved him of the outlet that should be on the receiving end of his wrath.

Jellal Fernandes.

His eyes narrowed dangerously. The thought of that man's name made his anger meter rose up tremendously just like the meter of the car rose when he pushed harder on the pedal. Jellal Fernandes was the lowest kind of man ever existed. How could he hurt Erza and blackmailed her into submission? How dare he order Erza to break up with him after what he had done to her? Jellal Fernandes really was a monster. He should receive more than just a beating from him. A beating was not enough to pay for his crime. He deserved to die. That was what Sasuke would give to Jellal should Naruto and Natsu hadn't come and stopped him.

"Think of Erza Sasuke. She will lose you and I don't think she can face that."

Naruto's word played on his mind. The blonde head was right of course. Sasuke wasn't thinking about that when he knew the truth. He was blinded by his rage to think about anything other than committing a sin of murdering the blue head.

Now that he was a little calmer, Sasuke wondered how it all happened. How did Jellal get Erza to meet him in the first place? He knew Erza wouldn't voluntarily meet Jellal. So what really happened on that day?

Sasuke needed to think rationally. Abruptly, he changed lane and pulled over.

There was something missing here, he could feel it. It happened as soon as he flew to Paris and now he knew why Erza was not picking up her phone during his time away from her. Aside from that, he also had his own trouble when Sakura pulled that stunt she did at Paris and the interview.

Sasuke's eyes widened as he figured out something. "That must be it!" He muttered to himself. The timeline for it to happen was too immaculate. Sakura must have tipped Jellal off about their departure to Paris and planned the whole thing. "Those two are in cohort together. Damn it!" Sasuke cursed angrily. All that had happened was a hideous plot to break him and Erza apart. Jellal might have some hold on Erza for now, albeit unwillingly but Sakura was delusional if she could get him to break with Erza and get together with her.

He would never let Erza go no matter what happen.

He procured his phone from his pocket and pressed the second number on his speed dial lists. He patiently waited for his manager to answer his phone.

It rang for a few second before a grumbling voice answered on the other line. "What?"

Sasuke ignored the tone of Suigetsu's voice. "I need you to arrange for a press conference as soon as possible," he said instead.

A pause on other line before Suigetsu asked him with suspicions. "What are you going to do?"

"Retaliate," he answered truthfully. Sakura needed to be dealt with. She was giving him so much trouble with her vile exploit. It was time everyone knew what a conniving and disgusting woman she really was inside underneath her naive façade.

Sasuke heard the sigh from the other line. "Well, arranging for a press conference is an easy task since my phone's been ringing non-stop since the news about you and Sakura broke out. Those nasty reporters have been asking for some comments from your side," he informed. "But are you going to let me knew exactly what you're planning?"

Sasuke left the question unanswered and asked instead. "Where are you right now?" Of course he would tell Suigetsu what his plan would entail. He owed Suigetsu that much after all the shit he had to go through because of him.

"Home," came the short reply.

"Good. I'll meet you there in fifteen minutes," he said. "I'll tell you everything."

"Okay," Suigetsu agreed. "In the mean time, I'll tell those reporters about the press conference."

Sasuke disconnected the call and wasted no time to get to his new destination.

.

.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Suigetsu asked for the nth time.

Sasuke rolled his eyes at the unconvinced manager and gave him a pointed and determined look. "Yes, I'm very sure about this. It needs to be done," he answered firmly. They had a long discussion about what Sasuke was going to do and even after an hour of planning, Suigetsu still looked a bit unconvinced that it was going to work just fine. However, Suigetsu's worry was well-founded. They could suffer a serious backlash from what Sasuke was going to do. It could damage his career. Hell, his career could be buried because of this.

"I know that," Suigetsu said as he stopped pacing and sat in front of him. "It's just that, this is going to be difficult. Sakura is a well known person just like you. She's practically an idol. What if people don't believe you?"

"I don't really care," Sasuke whispered softly. "I'm not going to let her dictate my life like that. After what had happen to Erza, she's lucky I don't straightly go after her and kill her myself."

Suigetsu looked away with a sad face. Yeah, Sasuke told him what had happened during their stay at Paris. Now they know why Erza was avoiding his call. Sasuke also told him that he had gone after Jellal and how Naruto and Natsu stopped him from beating the bastard to his death.

Suigetsu gave him a resign look and sighed softly. "Alright. I'll support you. No matter what happen, I'll stand by your side," he said.

Sasuke smiled at that. "Thank you," he whispered. Suigetsu and him had been through a lot together and he had no doubt that the snow haired man would stood by him. But still, hearing that from Suigetsu meant so much to him.

"Let's go, the press conference will start in 10 minutes," Suigetsu said, standing up from his seat.

Sasuke nodded before he too stood up and braced himself for what he was going to do. He hoped that everything would turn out fine.

.

.

Naruto sat from his bed and took out his phone from his pocket. He had a mind to call Sasuke and ask him of his whereabout. Erza must be worried sick about Sasuke right now. He forgot to update her on what had happen. He could only imagine what Erza was feeling after what she had gone through. She was always alone and kept to herself. Naruto wanted to call her and comfort her but he didn't know how her reaction would be with the fact that he knew what Jellal did to her.

With a sigh, Naruto scrolled on his phonebook and was about to call Sasuke when the door to his room burst opened and Natsu came in with a panic look on his face.

"Naruto, you won't believe what is happening," Natsu said with anxiety.

Dread filled his entire being as he assumed the worst. "What happen?" He asked in trepidation, looking at his twin brother with wide eyes.

"Sasuke's holding a press conference and it's going to start any minute now," Natsu told him.

"What?"

"Let's go watch it," Natsu said as he stepped out of the room towards the gaming room. Naruto wasted no time and rushed after Natsu with a foreboding feeling that something bad was going to happen.

He entered the gaming room and went straight to the television which was already turned on by Natsu earlier. They were just on time to see Sasuke walked into the conference room with his familiar manager behind him.

.

.

Sasuke was nervous but he didn't let it show as he walked to the conference room with Suigetsu and two guards in tow. All attention zeroed in on him as he stepped inside and the flashes that followed was blinding as the cameraman snapped pictures of him. Sasuke calmly walked towards the table prepared and took his seat at the center and Suigetsu sat beside him. The two guards stood at either side of them, just in case things went a little crazy in the conference room.

Suigetsu opened the press conference with some introduction and thanked all the reporters for their presence. When the question was allowed, it became a little rowdy inside the room as people asked question at the same time. Sasuke could feel the headache slowly coming to him resulting from the boisterous environment.

"I'll answer your question one at a time," he said calmly unlike what he really felt inside. "Lady in red in the first row," he pointed towards a bespectacled woman with a red blazer sitting directly in front of him. "Please state your question," he inquired.

The woman nodded appreciatively and spoke out. "I'm Anko from the Konoha Gazette. I'll just ask the question that's been on the mind of everyone's in this room. As you know, many speculations are made regarding the pictures appearing on the internet. Assuming that it is indeed true, does this mean that you and Miss Sakura Haruno are truly an item as she claimed?"

Sasuke expected the question since it was the reason why he held the press conference in the firt place. "Thank you Miss Anko. About that picture," Sasuke started. "I am ashamed to say that they are true."

The buzz once again erupted in the room making Sasuke scowled in annoyance.

"So you and Miss Haruno are officially dating then?" Came the question out of nowhere.

Sasuke ignored the question. He still wasn't finished with his explanation and he intended to resume his interrupted talk. They basically asked the same question anyway. He silently wondered if selected few present in this room truly were an idiot. "Let me clarify something about those pictures before I proceed with something else," he spoke out authoritively, terminating any murmur inside the room. "I hope that you you'll able to keep an open mind when I tell you what really happen in Paris," he said, looking at the people in front of him seriously. "What I'm about to tell you may not sound legit to you but I swear that I'm telling the truth. Keep in mind that it's not originally my intention to reveal some bad habit of certain people but because of some complication that arises, it needs to be done," he pointed it out. Sasuke was glad that everyone gave him complete attention and they did look excited to hear the revelations from him.

"The pictures posted on the internet are real," he admitted for the second time. "But it is not what it looks like. There's a story behind them." He saw the confused look on their faces as he told them that. "Sakura Haruno staged the whole thing and paid some photographer to capture some image of us together in Paris," he said. He heard the startled gasp and quiet murmur among the reporters before it died down again. It was expected since it was a shocker to hear something like that about the seemingly innocent Haruno heir. "Not many of you know this but Sakura Haruno has an unhealthy obsession with me from for a few years now. I never lead her on before and I keep my relationship with her purely professional hoping that she will give up on me some day," he told them.

"In Paris, Miss Haruno comes to me and convinces me that she no longer has any feeling for me. She apologizes for her behavior before this and I thought that day where she overcomes her obsession with me finally comes and I trust her. Turns out it was all lies," he let out harshly remembering how stupid he was for trusting her blindly. "She hired a photographer to capture those images to force my hand and agree with her statement that we are dating. She must have thought I will blindly follow her lead to save my reputation," he explained. "Some of the pictures are the images of Miss Haruno and I around Paris. Contrary to what was being said on the internet, it's not a date. We accidentally met during a separate outing and I am feeling responsible for her safety as a co-worker to accompany her to places since she's alone at that time. And we're not alone since my manager Suigetsu is present during that time. As for the provocative pictures, it is during a party to celebrate a job well done. Miss Haruno asks me for a talk and led me to a room for privacy. I think nothing at that time and I should have," he said with regret. When I enter the room, she suddenly pulls me towards her and we end up crashing on the sofa. The next thing I knew, there's a photographer taking our picture in the room before he made a quick exit. That's what had happen in Paris. That's the truth," he said. Silence stretched inside the room as everybody was trying to let the information sank in.

"Do you have any evidence to support your bold statement?" A random reporter finally asked, breaking the silence.

"No," Sasuke denied. "At least nothing concrete to back up my story, but if you don't trust me, then I trust you will investigate my claim to verify the truth. You'll easily find someone who will acknowledge about her obsession with me if you interview some people working with me and Haruno before."

"It's a heavy accusation you placed on Miss Haruno here. Are you aware of the consequences?"

"Yes," Sasuke answered confidently. "There's a chance that my career is going to burn down to ashes because of this but I'm not afraid because all I'm telling you today is the truth."

"Why do you go to such length to contradict what Miss Haruno say when you can solve this problem through other means?"

Now that was an interesting question. It was a question Sasuke was waiting for. Everyone needed to hear his reasoning. The reason why he would go through all this trouble and putting himself under scrutinized of everybody.

"The only reason why I do this is because of Erza Scarlet," he said with a small smile. The endearing tone in his voice did not go unnoticed by every occupant in the room. "Unlike what Sakura Haruno claimed in her statement, Erza Scarlet is my girlfriend."

"She is shocked and sad when she sees those pictures and Sakura's interview. But she also knows how it is going to affect me and my career. Sakura's statement was an ultimatum, so Erza saw no way for me to get out of this mess without damaging my career. So she willingly sacrifices her happiness and tells me to break up with her. She's adamant that it is the best course of action. But here I am, telling you all the truth and risking everything I've build for. It's because she's the best thing that has happen to me and I will never let her go. I am not going to regret what I am doing today no matter what the outcome is," he said with finality.

.

Mira's eyes kept glued to her laptop as she read the breaking news about Sasuke and Sakura on the social page. The news was recent but still it was not often that something big like this eluded her attention. But her attention was mostly distracted lately and she had the blue eyed blonde man to blame for. His boyfriend occupied her mind a lot since they started dating.

A heavy scowl marred her face the further she read the article on the net. "This is ridiculous," she uttered out loud. She didn't know Sasuke well but from the short time that she knew him and saw his interaction with Erza, Mira knew that Sasuke wouldn't cheat on her best friend. But she had to admit that those pictures were convincing. She wondered what the story was behind them. "And what the hell is Sasuke doing with Haruno Sakura in the first place. He hates that woman's gut," she muttered.

A caption caught her attention and she clicked on it.

"Sasuke's doing a press conference?" She muttered out loud. "Seriously what the hell is going on here? No one's telling me anything," she complained. She turned off her laptop and proceeded to the living room and turned on the television while fishing her phone out of her jeans pocket. She quickly dialed Erza's number and waited for the red head to pick up. She let out a heavy sighed when once again it was sent straight to the voice mail. Mira didn't know what was wrong with Erza these days. She was not picking up her phone and Mira was getting worried.

Taking the remote control from the table, Mira changed the channel to watch the press conference. Sasuke's face appeared on the television and Mira's eyes widened when she heard what Sasuke was saying.

She wondered if Erza knew about this. Opting to send a message instead, she typed in the content.

.

To: Erza

Sasuke's holding a press conference. Live on TV. Seriously, what the hell happen? Call me.

.

She sent the message and hoped that Erza would really call her soon. They had so much to discuss. She needed to hear about everything from Erza herself.

.

.

Erza was pacing back and forth in her living room. She was getting restless. She had been since Sasuke left her alone and went to find Jellal. She was getting worried. Neither Sasuke nor Naruto was calling her, so she didn't know what had happen. Did Sasuke found Jellal? Did Naruto found Sasuke and stopped him from commiting a murder? So much were going through her mind right now. Feeling dizzy from her own action, Erza took a seat on the sofa.

She took her phone from the table and noticed a misscall from Mira. Erza let out a sigh. She didn't have the heart to call Mira back right now. She was too worried about Sasuke.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated and she saw a new text message from Mira. She opened the message and read the content. Her eyes widened and she hastily stood up to turn on the television. What was the meaning of this? Why did Sasuke suddenly hold a press conference?

Erza changed the channel to find the right one and a while later, she saw Sasuke talking on the television.

"Yes. My career can burn down to ashes because of this but I'm not afraid because all I'm telling you today is the truth."

"Why do you go to such length to contradict what Miss Haruno say when you can solve this problem through other means?"

"The only reason why I do this is because of Erza Scarlet."

Erza gasped in shock. "What's the meaning of this Sasuke?"

"Unlike what Sakura Haruno claimed in her statement, Erza Scarlet is my girlfriend."

"Why are you doing this?" Erza asked out loud even though Sasuke couldn't hear her through the television.

"She is shocked and sad when she sees those pictures and Sakura's interview. But she also knows how it is going to affect men and my career. Sakura's statement was an ultimatum, Erza she saw no way for me to get out of this mess without damaging my career. So she willingly sacrifices her happiness and tells me to break up with her. She's adamant that it is the best course of action. But here I am, telling you all the truth and risking everything I've build for. It's because she's the best thing that has happen to me and I will never let her go. I am not going to regret what I am doing today no matter what the outcome is."

She could see the determination on his face and the finality in his voice as he said his piece. A part of her was moved that he would risk everything for her and another part of her was frustrated at how stubborn Sasuke was. Wasn't he afraid of the backlash he would face from this? More importantly, what would Sakura and Jellal do when they saw this? Both of them were not going to be happy, that was for sure. She couldn't care less about Sakura but Erza was worried about Jellal's reaction. He was not going to be happy about it.

Erza saw a reporter raised his hand and spoke. "I just receive information that you were brawling with Jellal Fernandes earlier in a café. Is it related to this issue as well? Can you you give some comment on that?"

"What?" She uttered in horror, staring at the screen incredulously. So Sasuke did meet Jellal afterall. The question cause quite an uproar in the conference room as those present began to throw questions simultaneously at Sasuke.

Erza saw Sasuke's face hardened at the mention of of Jellal's name. How was he going to answer it?

"I'm not going to comment on what had happen between Mr. Fernandes and I because it is not directly related with the topic for this press conference. Now I think I've said enough already to clear the misunderstanding about Sakura and I. It is a lot to take in, but I trust everyone to make a fair judgement. Good day everyone. Thank you for your attention."

With the final word, Sasuke stood from his seat and bowed a little to the audience before he proceeded to walk out of the room with Suigetsu in tow. Erza saw the crowds trying to walk to him but the guards were quick in action to block their path to ensure that Sasuke's exit was not hindered.

Erza slumped in her seat after the press conference ended. She turned off the television as the noise was starting to give her headache. She gripped her hair in frustration, thinking about the mess they were all in. She hoped to settle everything quietly because she hated having her life being made into public. But after the stunt Sasuke pulled, there was no way that she would be left alone for quite some time.

.

.

Sakura watched with murderous gaze as Sasuke calmly told the reporters about what had happen in Paris. She watched the press conference to the end and couldn't contain her rage when Sasuke declared about his relationship with Erza Scarlet.

With gritted teeth, Sakura growled lowly. "How dare he do this me?"

Sasuke sure had a lot of guts to reveal everything to the public. He had become bolder in his action. "How dare he refuse me openly like that!" She shrieked, taking the sweets bowl on the table and threw it at the television, smashing the screen to pieces. Sakura Haruno always got what she wanted but Sasuke Uchiha time and time again denied her. Her ego had been trampled by him. She was humiliated and now everyone knew that.

She was Sakura Haruno, sole heiress to the Haruno conglomerate and a famous model. She was a sought after lady. How dare he pick that red headed bitch over her? Sakura was furious. No, she was beyond furious with this turn of event. She was mad, livid and frustrated that her plan had backfired on her.

"This is all Erza Scarlet's fault!" She shrieked with a crazy glint in her eyes. "She will pay." Sakura would see to it personally. She took her phone and dialed the number that she never thought she would call again. After she paid Kabuto the remainding of his money for a job well done in kidnapping Erza Scarlet, she told him that she would never see him again and told him to deny any ties to her should anyone asked. But today, she required his service again. Only Kabuto would gladly do whatever she had in store for the red head without asking any question. That creepy and sadistic man would even enjoy it.

The line got connected. "I must say, I never expect you to call me again," came the annoying drawl of Kabuto's voice over the phone.

Sakura ignored the sneer in his tone and get back to business. "I'll pay you triple the amount I gave you for the previous job," she said. She knew how much the snow haired man loved money, so better started the conversation with it. She knew Kabuto was hooked when he went momentarily silent on the other line.

"Go on," he said, prompting Sakura to tell him on the details.

Sakura let out a chilling laughed before she answered the man. "You're going to love the job," she goaded him. "It's basically the same as the previous one. But this time, you get to play with the red head," she said. "I want you to give that bitch a slow painful death," she growled.

She heard the jovial laugh from the other side. "I know you had it in you the first time I met you Sakura Haruno. You're just like me," he praisingly said, making her seethed in anger. She longed to give him a piece of her mind and lectured the bespectacled man. She was nothing like the vile and despicable man. But she held it in because she didn't want to be on the bad side of him. She required his service after all. "I'm in," he gave her the answer. "When do I start?"

Sakura grinned. "Today," she said with anticipation. "Right now. As soon as possible," she replied. "Get your ass moving and go find Erza Scarlet. Bring her to me."

"How am I going to do that? It is too rushed. This needs a careful planning."

Her eyes blazed in fury. "I don't care how you're going to do that," Sakura yelled in anger. "Just catch that bitch and bring her to the abandon warehouse where the first time we met," she ordered. "I'll be waiting for you there," she said before she disconnected the line without waiting for any response from Kabuto.

Sakura stood from her position and went to her closet to change her clothes. Opted for something comfortable, she took out the skinny jeans and dark grey shirt and changed into them. Taking her car keys hanging on the wall and a gey hoodie, Sakura was ready to go out and waited for Kabuto at the designated place. She couldn't wait to see Erza Scarlet's shocked face when she saw her later.

Erza Scarlet's life was going to end today. Sakura wouldn't let her have Sasuke. If she couldn't have him, then no one could.

.

.

Sitting on his couch facing the television, Kabuto carelessly tossed aside his phone with an annoyed sigh. He so didn't appreaciate getting yelled at. If the pay was not that huge, he wouldn't even agree to do the job. He always planned his job carefully, leaving no room for mistake. He didn't like a rushed job.

Sakura Haruno was convinced that she would not need his service any longer after the last job. So he was truly surprised to see her calling him especially when he was just thinking about her because of some press conference on the television.

It was rare for him to get holed up in his apartment because he was usually busy with his odd job here and there. A job got cancelled today and he had no pressing matters to attend to. With nothing to do, he just opted to laze around in his apartment and watched TV. He happened to saw a press conference by chance and was hooked when Sakura's name was mentioned. She was once his employer after all. So he searched the internet about recent news on Sakura and Sasuke Uchiha and he couldn't keep the smirk from appearing when he noticed what it was all about.

Sakura Haruno was hung up on this Uchiha guy and it looks like the feeling was only one sided. Now he knew how Erza Scarlet got involved with this. It seemed like Sakura wouldn't share her man. No, Sasuke Uchiha was not even Sakura's man to begin with.

"Obsession is it," he uttered in realization. Sakura was obsessed with the boy and didn't like the fact that the boy loved another. Hence, she devised a plan to break the two apart so she could have him for herself, through force. "Maybe I'm wrong," he said nonchalantly. "Sakura Haruno is way crazier than me," he stated as he got up from the couch.

He had a job to do after all.

To be continued
