Episode 7.22 Leapin' Lizards: After Sara reads the letter
Sara finished reading the letter, she breathed in deeply. She wondered why Grissom had never given it to her. She re-read the letter smiling to herself, she would have loved to have seen this while Grissom was away, she had missed him.
Then her doubts started to creep into her mind. It had been awhile since she'd had any of these thoughts, confident now that Grissom wasn't going to pull away from her, after all he'd come back. However after seeing this letter she questioned herself again. Perhaps he hadn't sent it because he hadn't meant it, maybe he hadn't really missed her, she closed her eyes and tried to fight away these thoughts, she knew she was being ridiculous, but still she couldn't help thinking that one day her happiness would end, it always had in the past, why would this be different, she was just beginning to be comfortable in their relationship, not worrying over every little thing, and she knew that was the point that all things go bad. She turned her head towards the door, she could hear Grissom in the study, he'd been spending all his free time on building his own miniature, this too worried Sara, she didn't want him to become obsessed with this, but she knew that's where he was heading. She knew he felt responsible for Ernie Dells death, and for the girl in the apartment, he felt guilty for leaving, because he might have been able to save that girl.
As Sara sat there contemplating this, she decided to go and talk to Grissom, she normally didn't interrupt him while he was working but after reading this letter she had to be sure her doubts were not necessary.
Sara headed towards the study, she paused in the doorway watching Grissom working, he was bent over the model, and concentrating on making sure it was perfection. He didn't notice she was watching him, she cleared her throat, announcing she was there. Grissom looked up at her,
"Hey, how long have you been standing there?" He asked her, he was completely unaware he was being watched.
"Not long, I was just watching" She said smiling at him "how is that going for you?"
"Well I've got the room cut and I'm just gluing it together, I think it's going to be making the shelves and little jars and things that will be hard, it's beyond me how someone dose this all the time."
He spoke to her, but he was fully focused on the model.
Not sure what to say Sara decided to bring up the letter.
"I read your letter" she said simply to him.
Grissom stopped what he was doing abruptly, he hadn't meant for Sara to see that.
"Oh, where did you find that?" He asked looking up over his glasses at her.
"It was inside the book on your bedside, I saw it when I lent over to get the remote."
Grissom continued to stare at her, he didn't know what to say.
"Um, I, it was silly, I shouldn't have written it" he said quietly to her.
"What do you mean silly, it was sweet, I would have liked if you had sent it" Sara said walking over to him.
"I was going to send it, I started to address it but then it seemed silly, I should just tell you in person. I just thought you would like it if I said it to your face. When I started writing it I thought it would be romantic but I don't know, it just seemed silly when I finished."
He looked up at her as she got closer to him. He really wished he had thrown it out, he was slightly embarrassed Sara had found it.
"Gil, really it was sweet, and you know how much I love Shakespeare now" Sara said smiling at him. She walked closer to him and sat on his lap, throwing her arms around his neck.
"So" she said to him, "How's this model going? Are you getting inside the miniatures head?"
Sara wanted to tell him she was worried but didn't want him mad at her.
"Well not so much, if I could just figure out why they build these models maybe I can figure out who" Grissom said frowning at Sara.
Turning towards the desk, Sara picked some of the pieces up in her hand.
"Gil, maybe you should take a break, come to bed early tonight," Sara said sadly.
These days she was asleep before Grissom ever came to bed, and she missed him.
"Mmm" Grissom replied "I need to finish this Sara, I have to figure it out, if I don't someone else might die."
He took the piece from her hand and laid it on the table before turning back to her
"It's my fault Sara, that Ernie Del shot himself, and that the police office is dead, it's even my fault that lady got her brother to kill her, I can't live with anymore death Sara, not if I can stop it."
Sara watched Grissom as a tear fell from his eye, she brushed it of his face before softly kissing his cheek.
"Gil, please stop blaming yourself, the person behind this is crazy, and sending yourself mad won't fix anything, why don't you just leave this tonight and come and get some sleep?"
Grissom looked at Sara, her face was begging him, truth be told she was always asleep before him, maybe he should go to be early tonight.
Grissom put down the pieces and kissed Sara gently on the lips before putting his hands under her and lifted her as he stood. Sara giggled as Grissom carried her into their bedroom.
