ON THE HELICOPTER AND BEYOND

Grissom held Sara's hand tight, he didn't want to let go in case this was just a dream, and that she was still out in the desert somewhere. He squeezed her hand tight willing her to be ok, he watched as her eyes fluttered open, and he sighed with relief. It was a good sign.

Sara's eyes opened slowly, she felt strange. As her surroundings came into focus she saw Grissom's name on his vest. Her eyes searched upwards for his face, she gave him a week smile. She felt his hand clutching hers, she gave it a small squeeze.

The medivac team moved aside to allow Grissom to get closer to Sara. He leaned over and gently kissed her forehead, brushing her hair aside gently.

"Hey" He spoke to her softly "You're going to be ok now, I got you".

Grissom watched as a tear fell from Sara's eye, and he wiped it away softly.

"Sara, Honey, don't cry, you're safe now, you're going to be ok"

Another tear fell from Sara's eye, she pulled her hand away from Grissom's and lifted to his face. She touched his cheek gently, and moved her fingers into the one sign she knew. I Love You.

A tear escaped Grissom's eyes as he said to her

"I love you too honey" and placed another soft kiss on her forehead.

Later in the hospital Grissom sat by Sara's bed, he had barley let go of her hand all afternoon. He watched Sara as she lay there sleeping, thanking whatever force had bought her back to him. The doctors had set Sara's broken arm and treated her sunburn and hyperthermia, her IV was full of pain killers and hydrating liquid. Sara had begged Grissom not to leave her, which he had no intention of doing anyway. Sara had drifted off to sleep with Grissom holding her hand.

Now Grissom sat by her side, not wanting to leave her.

Grissom felt a tight squeeze of his hand, as Sara's eyes opened slowly. He moved closer to her and brushed her face with his hands.

"Hey" She said giving him a small smile.

"Hey honey" Grissom replied, "How are you feeling?"

Sara gave a small scoff,

"Just fantastic" She replied sarcastically.

Grissom looked at her, not sure if he should laugh or not.

"Gil" Sara said "its ok, I'm sorry I feel awful and I was just trying to lighten the mood"

Grissom smiled at her, as he lent down and kissed her softly on this lips. Pulling away just enough that he could speak to her, he said,

"I'm so glad your back Sara"

Sara watched as tears fell from his eyes, and she felt her own fall on her check. She reached up and her arms around his neck and pulled herself into a sitting position so she could hug him properly.

Grissom wrapped his arms tight around Sara and held her. Both of them letting go of all their emotion from the last 48 hours. Their tears were of relief but also of fear.

For a while neither of them moved, they just needed to hold each other. Grissom finally pulled away so he could see Sara's face. But he couldn't find the words he wanted to express to her everything he had felt since she had been gone.

Sara saw this in his face and reached up and touched his cheek gently rubbing it with the thumb. Grissom pressed her hand into his cheek lent into it.

"Gil, its ok" Sara said giving him a small smile. "I'm here"

Grissom smiled back at her,

"I know, I'm so sorry Sara"

Sara looked at him confused,

"For what Gil?" She asked gently.

Grissom breathed in, trying to fight off tears, he needed to be strong for Sara but he was having a hard time controlling his emotions.

"If I hadn't of gone away, we might have found Natalie sooner. She took you because of me, because I love you. If I had noticed sooner that you hadn't come back to the lab we could have found you sooner. All of it, it's my fault, I didn't know if I was ever going to see you again Sara, I was so scared I had lost you. I just wanted to see you and tell you I was sorry and that I loved you more than anything"

Sara smiled at him and lent her forehead against his,

"Gil firstly you have nothing to be sorry about, I keep telling you, none of what Natalie has done is your fault, you understand, I won't let you blame yourself for this girls delusions."

Grissom gave her another small smile, but not convinced by her words.

"And secondly" Sara continued "I know how much you love me, I see it when you look at me, when you hold me, the way you speak to me, in all honesty it was the only thing that kept me going. I just wanted to see you again, if I didn't have you Gil, I would have given up. But you've gave me back my strength and I owed it to you to not give up. I was so scared that you wouldn't find me"

Sara sobbed as she spoke, she was so tired and it was hard hearing Grissom blame himself.

Grissom pulled Sara in tight again, and let her cry against him.

"Oh Honey, it's going to be ok, I've got you now, you don't need to be scared anymore, I'm right here"

Sara didn't say anything, she just continued to cry. As Grissom sat there with her in his arms, he wondered if Sara would truly be ok.
