Episode 8.07 Goodbye and Good Luck- After Grissom Reads the Letter
He stared at the paper in his hands. He re-read it. Twice. He sunk down into his chair, this isn't real, He thought, and she can't be really gone.
He felt his eyes stinging, he tried to fight back the tears but he couldn't. He had overcome so much for Sara, to allow himself to love her had taken so much for him. But he was eternally grateful that he did. Sara had opened up a part of him that he no longer thought was there.
Now as he sat reading her note he couldn't believe it. He wouldn't. He knew Sara had been struggling, since that day in the desert, he had wanted to help but she wouldn't let him in. He thought that in time she would be ok, that she just needed to work through.
He cursed himself, he should have known better, if only he had tried harder with her, helped her more. Grissom placed his head in his hands and let the tears come, no longer willing to fight them back, to heartbroken to care. He cried until there were no more tears.
Composing himself he wiped his face and left the crime lab in a hurry, he didn't want to speak to anyone right then. As he got in his car, he felt sick to his stomach about going home, to a place he and Sara had shared, where everything there would remind him of her. But knowing she wouldn't be there.
Sara sat in the airport terminal. Grissom would have seen her letter by now. Her eyes watered at the thought of his name. How much he must hate her now, how hurt he must be. But she didn't have a choice, the one person who had meant more to her then anything in this whole world, was the one person who didn't deserve to watch her fall apart. Grissom had tried to help her overcome her ghosts, but is was no good, they came back to thick and fast and too often. She needed to get away, she needed time to sort through her feelings. The only thing she knew for sure in her life was she loved Grissom, but he deserved so much more. She had to take care of herself before she could really commit to him. She felt hot tears on her cheek, of course after what she had just done she couldn't be sure he would have her back anyway.
Sara felt her phone buzzing in her pocket, she picked it up to see who was calling. When she saw it was Grissom she put the phone back in her pocket. She couldn't speak to him now, she had to get away, and she didn't think should would cope hearing his voice.
