Grissom gets the first call from Sara –

Grissom heard his cell ring, he opened his eyes confused for a moment about what was happening. Frowning he searched to find it, figures he said to himself first night of in a month and the lab is calling me.
Finding his phone in the dark he picked it up and checked the caller ID. Sara Sidle. Grissom breath caught in his chest, it had been a month since she left Vegas, a month since he had spoken to her. He had tried to call, and he had sent her texts but had got nothing, so seeing her name flash up shocked him. He flipped open the phone, no wanting to miss the chance to speak to her.

"Hi" He said quietly.

"Hi" Sara said down the phone "I didn't think you would answer."

Grissom chuckled,

"Then why did you call?" he asked honestly.

There was a pause on the other end.

"Sara" Grissom said making sure she was still there.

"I…I just wanted to hear you voice" She stuttered.

Grissom could hear her choking up on her words

"Sara, are you ok?" he asked her.

"I just, I just really missed you today that's all."

Grissom felt a lump in his throat,

"I miss you too" he replied.

"Where are you Sara?" he asked her.

"In San Francisco, visiting my mum" She said, Grissom noticed her voice sounded small

"Are you well?" He asked. He had so many questions but he was grateful to hear her voice.

"I'm not sure" She said, "I thought coming here would help, I thought I would be able to bury these ghosts, but I don't know somehow it's not as easy as I thought."

Grissom wasn't sure what to say, he didn't understand the way Sara was feeling and he wasn't sure what to say to comfort her.

"Come home Sara, I'll help you work through whatever it is" Grissom said almost begging

Grissom heard Sara sob.

"I can't Gil, I know you don't understand, and I know I've hurt you but I can't. I need to find a way to sort out what's going on in my head once and for all"

Grissom sighed,

"Sara, I won't lie, you hurt me, but I love you and I understand that you need to do this for yourself. I just really miss you"

Sara breathed in deeply.

"Gil, I love you too, always, and maybe when the time is right I can come home" She said softly

"Sara, you will always be welcome here, when you're ready, I'll be here waiting for you"

Sara sobbed again

"Why didn't you call sooner Sara?" Grissom asked "I've tried to reach you"

"I know" Sara replied, "But I thought if I heard your voice to soon, I'd come running home, but I can't do that. I'm so sorry"

Grissom sighed, he knew now Sara wouldn't be back anytime soon, if she would even be back at all.

"Sara, is there anything I can do to help?" Grissom asked

"Can I call you sometimes" Sara asked in soft unsure voice.

Grissom smiled

"Sara, Honey, you can call me anytime you want. If you need me to I'll drop what I'm doing and be there for you"

Grissom heard a smile in Sara's voice

"Thank you" She said "I'm so sorry Gil"

Grissom heard a pain in her voice as she spoke

"Sara, its ok, we'll get through this, let's just take it one day at a time ok" He said to her

Sara yawned.

"Gil, I'm so tired I think I'm going to go. But thank you for picking up the phone tonight, I really needed it"

Grissom felt a stab of pain, he didn't want the conversation to be over, he was enjoying hearing her voice.

"Get some sleep, honey. And promise you call whenever you need" he said to her

"I promise" Sara replied "I love you"

"I Love you to Sara, take care of yourself alright" He said. He listened for her to hang up the phone before doing the same.

As he lay back down, he wondered if he shouldn't go after her.
