11.01 - Shock Waves
Grissom was on a flight that night. He had got a call from Sara saying there had been an altercation at a crime scene and she had broken her hand by punching someone in the face. As Grissom sat on the plane, he thought about what had happened, how he wasn't there when Sara was injured, how far away he was and how hard it was to take care of her from a distance. The dig he was on in Peru was only a six month dig, and then he would go home. Sara and him had talked about whether or not they should settle in Vegas or move somewhere with less painful memories. He often imagined himself coming home to Sara, in a house they shared maybe outside a big city. He smiled to himself thinking of Sara as the wifely kind, it didn't really suite her.
Twenty four hours later Grissom pulled up at the Las Vegas crime lab. He had called Catherine to find out what time Sara would be finished her shift. But Catherine had told him the case they were working on wasn't over and everyone had to stay until they were done. Sara had been working for over twenty four hours when he finally reached the lab.
He walked inside looking for her, it had been awhile since he had step foot in the lab and he realized that he did miss it just a little bit, it was like home. As he passed through the halls he was greeted by familiar faces, both Nick and Greg stopped to say hello, both looked exhausted. Grissom was particularly concerned with the state Nick was in. After a quick chat Grissom continued to look for Sara. He found her in the locker room sitting on the bench. Her eyes were closed, Grissom smiled, she was sleeping. He sat down beside her and rested his hand on her leg. Sara jumped a little feeling some one touch her, but realizing it was Grissom she broke out with a large
"Long day?" Grissom asked gently.
"The worst" Sara said agreeing with his statement.
"What are you doing here?" Sara asked.
"Well when you called and said you'd hurt yourself how could I not come?" He said wrapping his arms around her.
"You didn't have to Gil, I'm fine really" Sara said leaning into his body, she was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open.
"Sara, I wanted to come, I've missed you" He said as he kissed the top of her head.
Sara didn't answer but just smiled she was starting to fall asleep again. Grissom stood and pulled Sara to her feet by her good hand. He picked up her belongings and headed for the car park.
An hour later they pulled up to their apartment. Grissom smiled, this was the first time in over two months he had been home. Grissom helped Sara out of the car and leading her gently into the house, she was half asleep. They made their way to the bedroom, Sara collapsed on the bed pulling the covers over her not even bothering to undress. Grissom laughed, he made his way to her and sat on the bed. He removed the covers so he could take of her shoes. He then followed her and laid next to her in the bed, pulling her in tight, he kissed her cheek, and fell asleep smiling. It was in these moments that he knew no matter the distance or time spent apart, that Sara would always be home to him. One day soon they would always be in the same place again.
The next morning Sara woke up with the sun shining through the window. She felt refreshed, she rolled over and saw Grissom sitting up in bed next to her reading, she felt happy.
"Hey" She said to him quietly.
"Morning" He said leaning down to kiss her.
Sara grinned back at him, sitting up she said to him.
"I'm glad you're here, I've really missed you."
"I've missed you too, I'm sorry I haven't been home much since going to Peru."
Sara moved closer to him so she could lean her head on his shoulder.
"It's ok" she said "it's only for six months, we'll see each other plenty afterwards."
Grissom picked up her hand and gently kissed her palm, he laced his fingers with hers. He seemed deep in thought. After a moment of silence he spoke to her.
"You are too good to me Sara. Not that many people would be as understanding as you." He kissed her hand again.
"I know what it's like Gil" She said looking at him "To want your freedom, to be able to do things that you never dreamed you would get to. I want you to be happy, I don't want you to wake up one day resenting the fact that you stayed here with me instead of doing what you loved. We'll have so much time to do those boring homely things." She said laughing slightly at her last sentence.
Grissom smiled and kissed her lips softly.
"I love you Sara" He said as her pulled her down onto to the bed with him.
