11.07 House of Hoarders - Sara's memory of the marble
Sara left Nick where he was and wandered back to the locker room. Opening her locker, she pulled out a little blue marble and turned it in her hands. It made her smile, she thought back to the time Grissom had given this to her.
Flashback
Sara stormed through the crime lab, she hopped she didn't cross paths with anyone. How dare Ecklie treat her that way! She knew Ecklie was a self-indulgent, pain in the arse, but this had gone too far. Sara had been working on DV case, somehow they came her way too often, when she had gone to Ecklie to insist that they pursue the husband, he had given her a dressing down on being too involved. He had told her there was no point pursuing it, the DA wouldn't go to trial without conclusive evidence. Sara kept her mouth shut but she was angry.
As she passed through the hall way she unfortunately ran into Greg. He was trying to be helpful, giving her the results form evidence from yet another case Sara had caught that week.
"Hey Sara" He said cheerfully, he was always happy to see Sara.
"Not now Greg" Sara barked unintentionally angry toward him.
"Woah, Sara" Greg said "I just wanted to let you know that the knife you recovered from the crime scene, it was covered in finger prints, but it doesn't match the suspect or the victim."
Sara stared at him for a moment hoping he would present her with something.
"Greg" Sara said losing her patience, "Do you know whose finger prints they are."
Greg shook his head "No idea."
Before he even had a chance to say anything else Sara strode off. She was not in the mood for this. As she rounded the corner she ran into Grissom.
"Hey" He said to her, looking around to see if anyone was there "Can I talk to you for a minute?"
Sara looked at him confused but followed him to his office. Grissom closed the door and locked it behind him.
"What's wrong?" Sara asked slightly worried by his actions.
"Honey, I just need to talk to you, I got a call from the Care Facility where your mum is in San Francisco" He said.
Sara felt her body go weak,
"Oh" She said "What's happened? Is she ok? Why didn't they call me?"
Sara rattled of questions, clearly worried.
Grissom put his hands on her shoulders and squeezed them tightly,
"She's ok, it's just they found her with some alcohol, she'd been drinking again, but they just wanted to let you know that they had taken her to the hospital just to be sure, but she looks like she'll be fine. They've been trying to call you for a couple of hours and when they couldn't reach you they called me. Remember you put me down as a second point of contact, just in case."
Sara closed her eyes and nodded. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, wondering why she hadn't heard it ring. Looking at she realised the battery had died, she must have forgot to charge it overnight.
"Great" She said out loud but not really directing it at Grissom "Just great."
"Sara, are you ok?" Grissom asked,
"Yeah, it's fine I'm just having one of those kind of days, First Ecklie, then Greg, now my mum. And of all the days for my phone to not be charged. Just fantastic."
Grissom just stared at her, she really was having one of those days.
"Sara, if you want to you can go home, or go and see your mum, we can take care of your cases. And what did Ecklie and Greg do?"
"No its fine, I don't have long to go, and I don't want to talk about Ecklie and Greg right now" She looked behind her to make sure the blinds in Grissom room were shut before reaching up and giving him a quick kiss.
"Thanks" Sara said "For dealing with my mum's situation."
Grissom smiled at her.
"Of course, anything for you my dear."
Smiling Sara left the office.
After managing to get through her shift Sara made her way home. She decided to try and keep herself distracted by cooking. Not that she was any good at it but she tried.
Just as she heard Grissom come through the door, she realised the pot she had cooking on the stove had burnt, she had been too distracted by cutting up the other things she needed. Picking it up she tossed the pot into the sink with a loud thud. Grissom was in the kitchen by the time she turned back around.
"Oh hey" Sara said greeting him with a kiss.
"Hey, you tried to cook again?" he asked trying to lighten the mood.
"Don't" Sara said biting back at him.
"Honey I'm sorry, I was just trying to cheer you up, I know you had a bad day" he said to her before opening his arms to hug her. Sara responded and wrapped her arms around him.
"I know you meant well" She said "I don't know why I bothered trying, we're just going to get take out now."
Grissom chuckled,
"I have something for you" He said reaching into his pocket.
Sara stood back so she could see what he was pulling out. In his hand was a little blue marble. Sara smiled, the marble was nearly the same colour as Grissom eyes.
Sara looked at Grissom curiously, wondering what on earth a marble had to do with anything.
"I know you had a hard day today, so I thought about something I was told once. I thought it might be a piece of advice that is useful to you. And the marble is a way for you to remember that advice, if ever I'm not around."
Sara smiled.
"And what wise words do you have for me today Gilbert" She quipped.
"If life ever gets crazy, roll with it" he said.
Sara laughed,
"I get it, roll with it, the marble rolls. So wise Grissom" She leant up and kissed him softly.
Sara smiled to herself as she stood by her locker, it was times like these she wanted Grissom home so badly. Collecting her belongings she exited the locker room. She picked up her phone and dialled Grissom. She smiled as she heard him answer on the other end.
"Hey Gil, I was just thinking about you."
