Havi left school with his head full of information. The sorcerer Haleceles was much different from the professor Haleceles. He was more serious and his words had a hint of sadness hidden in them. He was also much more honest, telling Havi everything he knew about the professor's previous life and a bit of his own ancient past.
"So the wizard who cursed Vald is still alive…" Havi thought out-loud to himself. Campus was deserted so it was unlikely that anyone would hear him. "No doubt this sorcerer is as powerful as Haleceles, but how powerful is that?" He remembered belittling his old master's abilities, so was it true that Havi was at one time more power than his master? "Well it's pointless to think about it," he muttered. "I'm barely magical at all now."
He remembered something about a way to gain magical strength, but the memory was fuzzy and painful to recall. It would probably come to him eventually, but there were more serious matters he needed help with. The recent murders were no doubt the result of Havi's student's demon running loose. Haleceles had said that the way he had prevented mass murder was by killing the first owner of the demon sword, but Havi had done no such thing and still prevented the prince, now student, from running amok. How?"
Havi grumbled to himself as he walked home. He didn't live far so it was only a thirteen minute walk to his apartment. Once there he found three voicemails on his phone from various people for unimportant reasons and deleted them. Then his eyes landed on his computer and he decided to relax by getting on Crimson Spell and hopefully pking* the book thief.
He spawned in the city he had last logged off on. The game had friend and enemy lists which allowed a character to find or avoid other players respectively. Of course Havi didn't have any friends, but he had added the thief to his enemy list to find him again. As a result, it was easy to find the thief on the map and make his way there.
The thief was doing that high-level mission with the other three players, all losing together rather badly despite the dragon being closer to their level now and there being four of them. The white mage was focusing on fighting more than healing his teammates, the archer was too close and kept running around to escape the dragon's attacks so delaying his attacks, and the thief was using a knight's sword which was outside his class and harder for him to use effectively. The half-demon was the only one who looked like he knew what he was doing, dealing the most damage and timing the use of medkits perfectly.
Havi watched their lifebars slowly drain and expected to see them lose quickly. But this scene struck something in his memory, bringing to mind a vision of the prince from his dreams fighting a demon while Havi yelled at him not to kill it.
The professor sighed and had his character send a giant blast of magical ice at the barely hurt dragon. Its health drastically decreased and it instantly turned its attention to him. It sent a jet of flame at him, but he brought up an anti-flame shield to protect his character. Thus occupying the dragon's focus, the four weaklings quickly finished it off without fear of being killed themselves.
They all looked at him and thanked him for the assistance, but the thief recognized him. "We don't have anything rare to give you!" he typed immediately after his thanks.
"Selfish wizard!" the mage typed angrily. "We never asked for your help, so don't expect payment!"
"Why'd you help us?" the archer asked, not putting his weapon away like the others as a threat to the wizard.
"Does it matter?" the half-demon asked them. His character smiled at Havi and he thanked him for his assistance yet again.
Havi was struck dumb. This was the spitting image of the demon that had attacked him. Could this be the student's character? But then how did he know what he looked like as a demon?
"Now he won't even reply!" the archer complained.
"Maybe he's talking with other characters," the student replied optimistically, "or messing with his stats. It's not like it's unusual to see someone just standing there."
"You all need to have more sense," Havi said at last. "That dragon would have gone down a lot quicker if you all had done your jobs properly! Is the demon the only one capable of fighting?"
"HEY!" the mage snapped.
"Brutal wizard!" the thief growled.
"What do you mean?" the student asked.
"Healers heal," Havi stated, "and focus on their teammates more than the enemy. Archers stay on the outside limit of their range to stay out of the enemy's danger zone. Thieves use knives and minor spells, not warrior swords!"
"Don't act like you're so much better than us!" the archer spat at him.
"No acting is necessary," Havi smirked.
pk= player kill, meaning when one player kills another or many others for fun. Idk if this is a common term but I've heard it enough that I use it so there. Also goes kind of with ganking, which is when one player is over-leveled and goes around killing others repetitively. Don't really know the difference, Urban Dictionary the terms if you're still confused.
