Clarissa was babbling to Havi as usual on their way to their classes. She wanted to set him up with another of her female friends, but this time she honed in on the one time Havi had taken her up on the offer of a date. What she didn't know was that he only gave in hoping that she would drop the matter.
"She's really into mythology," Clarissa was saying. "She's getting her degree to teach history for high school and is much nicer than Jill. Karla and you are totally alike! She also keeps turning me down! Doesn't that prove you two are perfect for each other?"
"It proves that your assistance is not needed," Havi told her for probably the fifth time.
"Halvir! You know I only want what's best for you! Maybe if you met someone then the students would like you more! They do say that a man in love is more likable."
"No one says that besides you," he reminded her.
"Those jerks keep ganking* me!" a student yelled loudly. Both professors turned to look at the student who had cut their conversation short and saw that it was someone from Havi's class. "I wish my old account hadn't been deleted! Damn, I'd teach them a lesson they'd never forget!"
"Please don't shout so loud Mr. Abraham," Havi told the student.
He and the three people he was talking to – a kid, someone Havi didn't recognized, and the demon student – all turned to look at the two professors. "It's rude to be so loud this early in the morning," Clarissa said with a polite smile.
"Sorry," he grunted before turning back to his friends. Speaking quieter this time, he continued, "So my friends and I are going to raid the town tonight, you guys in?"
The kid looked shocked. "That's not fair!" he complained.
The demon student nodded. "Yeah, but don't they deserve it? If they're playing unfairly then why should we?"
"Because it would just encourage them to retaliate in kind," Havi joined in.
The three students looked at him with confused looks. Clarissa just rolled her eyes.
"If you sink to their level then you are just as bad as them," Havi continued, "but even worse because you're starting a circle of how best to kill the other."
"Then what would you do?" the slacker student, Abraham, asked.
"Ignore them or report it," the professor answered honestly.
"Like that'll do anything," he scoffed. The demon student nodded and smiled.
"But if they're reported enough their characters will be deleted," the kid reminded them with a smile. It seemed that he enjoyed having the professor agree with him.
Havi smirked. "And then you can always find him and kill him when he's weaker," he continued.
The demon and slacker students laughed while the kid looked disappointed.
"It's time for class," Clarissa reminded them.
"Fine," Havi said with a sigh. She left and the kid sprinted after her while he unlocked the door for his class to come in.
Today he had a lecture about the impossibility of certain creatures and the possibilities of them being real creatures exaggerated through the retellings of stories. He also had a quiz at the end on his lecture to take attendance and see who was paying attention. After dismissing the class, the demon student, Vald, was waiting after class to talk to him.
"Can I help you?" Havi asked with a cocked eyebrow.
"So are you into video games?" Vald asked happily.
"Not particularly," Havi replied. When he saw the student get sad at this he amended, "But lately I have been spending some time on some online games."
Vald's smile returned and he said, "This may be weird but maybe we should join up some time. It'd be cool to know you outside of a school setting, you know?"
Havi shrugged.
"I'll take that as a yes," Vald optimistically interpreted the gesture. "I'll meet you in Crimson Spell at the Haldaim ruins at ten, okay?"
He didn't wait for an answer and instead waved as he ran to do whatever.
Le gasp! The main characters are actually interacting? Say it's not so!
Well I've put it off long enough, so kinda had to eventually. I put if off because of the way Vald acts after he and Havi are like a couple in chapter 30 (hope that's the right number)(haha! this is chapter 30...) where he's optimistic and cheery. It's not that I don't like him being so happy, I just can't write it well. I want to do him proper justice but nothing written can match that adorable face he has when saying he wants Havi to cover his back. Well, i'll try my best.
