A/N: Hello. I apologize about the short length of the last chapter. I'm glad to hear you all liked it. This way, she still has her first child be Rose and it's going to be awesome. Also, one of my readers suggested using Severus' mother's name or a variation as a middle name. And although, I'm not quite doing that (I has a plan that involves certain things and certain names for certain reasons) however since there is no mention of a middle name for her I am giving her the one I was going to useā¦it shall be explained. Anyway I hope you enjoy.
Chapter 42
Hermione lay in bed, bored while she waited for Severus' return. Minerva had left the room after Hermione said she just needed some sleep, but really only wanted some time to herself.
Luna?
Hermione waited what felt like forever and no response came. She felt alone and worried. Even when Luna was asleep she often responded. To have no response meant that they were doing something incredibly dangerous that required all of her focus, or some place where magic was blocking their communication. It scared Hermione, she worried about her friends. And she was looking forward to sharing the good news with one of her best friends. Hannah and Ginny had gone into hiding somewhere in the castle, sending her notes only when they were in class.
Severus was very supportive, and she felt bad that anything else he had planned for Valentine's Day was ruined. And as March was drawing to a close, she wanted to be out of that bed and holding her sweet baby girl.
"Rose Mary Snape," She said out loud, testing it on her lips. It sounded too much like Rosemary. And he was right, it didn't sound quite right. She wanted this name to mean something and she thought.
"Accio," She said as she pointed her wand and thought very clearly about the family history book that Severus kept on his bookshelf and barely managed to catch it with her empty hand. She had to find the perfect name.
She flipped to the back of the book starting with his older ancestors. The names she found were definitely interesting but nothing fit well. She decided to go a lit bit closer to him and landed on his mother. She was by no means an attractive woman, and neither was her husband, yet some how they had a handsome son, even if it took this long for her to realize it. But she knew the history there was bad. His father was abusive towards his mother, and she tried her best to protect him.
Eileen Prince. She was smart and talented and Hermione did hope that her child could inherit that talent. Hermione read slowly and carefully through the page, trying to learn anything she could about her child's grandmother. And then she found it, after reading the page for a fifth time. Eileen Marie Prince. Severus had said that Mary wasn't quite right, but close. Rose Marie Snape. It was perfect.
Hermione placed a hand on her stomach, "Rose Marie Snape, I cannot wait to meet you, my little one."
She felt her daughter kick in response, and Hermione smiled before rolling over to take a nap, hoping Severus would be home soon.
Severus had returned, feeling grimm and waved Minerva off, hoping she wouldn't take offense to him not wanting to talk. He had to see Hermione. He opened the door and saw her curled up lying in a ball, sound asleep. She looked happy, like things were finally going her way.
He saw his family book lying next to her and walked over, picking it up and glancing at the page that she had left it open to. He missed his mother, and wished that he knew what happened, but he closed the book and put it away before walking over and sitting next to Hermione.
He gently nudged her shoulder, "Hermione, I need you to wake up."
She rolled over and snuggled up to him, not really waking up, only mumbling something in her sleep.
"Hermione, wake up."
Her eyes opened vaguely, and she blinked as she looked at him, "Yourome, Sevrus," she managed to mumbled out.
"Hermione, we need to talk."
She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, as she sat up, "What's wrong, Severus?"
He sighed and looked at the worry on her face; it became evident that she had been worried long before this moment.
"Your friends, Potter and Weasley, and that Lovegood girl, were spotted. They were almost caught, except that there was an explosion."
"What?"
"I don't know everything that happened. Only that they had stopped to visit Xenophilius Lovegood and he contacted the Death Eaters in an attempt to make his daughter stay. He had something in the house and it exploded."
"Is everyone okay? Did they survive?" Hermione was terrified. She had realized that she could live happily with Severus, but only if Harry defeated Voldemort.
"The death eaters that went saw them just before they disapparated. But we know nothing more."
Hermione's chest was tight with fear and she had to get to Luna.
Luna? Luna, Severus just told me about your visit home. Are you okay? Is everyone okay?
After a moment, Hermione got a response, Yes, we are okay. A bit shaken, but we are safe and uninjured.
Oh thank Merlin. I'm relieved.
"Hermione, what is going on? You just went from scared to death to stress free. It's like you know something."
Hermione looked at Severus, remembering that he knew nothing about her secret communication ability with Luna.
"Hermione, I need to know."
"The original plan was for me to be with Harry and Ron. When I was captured and we got engaged, I knew I couldn't try to run with them, and so I sent Luna off with them, after discovering a really old spell, I was able to set up a telepathic connection with Luna. So I can communicate with her almost anytime."
"And you just did that now?"
Hermione nodded.
"Why didn't you tell me this? And how has He not found out about this yet? If he does, or Bella catches wind-"
"Severus, that's why I haven't said anything, the fewer amount of people that knew, the better. And I've been practicing Occlumency since Harry had started."
He was, as usual, impressed by her ability to teach herself something so well, even when no one was there to guide her.
"That was incredibly dangerous, Hermione."
"I know. But what's done is done."
Severus sighed and got up from the bed. He was tired and wanted to sleep. He began to change in to his silk pajamas, knowing full well that she was watching him.
"Did you make any progress with a middle name?"
"I did. Rose Marie Snape. Marie for your mother."
Severus' breath caught in his chest. He wasn't expecting her to say something like that.
She continued to speak, "In my family it's sort of a tradition to hand down middle names."
"I can respect that, but we are never passing down Tobias."
"I can respect that as well."
Severus crawled into bed, lying down next to his wife, "Rose Marie Snape. I like the sound of that."
"She does too, here, feel," Hermione said as she grabbed his hand and placed it where their daughter kicked from within.
Severus was in awe. This was the first time she had placed his hand on her stomach, and the first time he got to feel his daughter move. He was happy in this moment, and he wanted to be with her.
He smiled as he looked into her eyes, and saw her smiling back, "I love you, Hermione Jean Snape."
The smile on her face disappeared for a moment, not because she was unhappy, but because she was in shock. She didn't think he would ever feel that way about her, but the butterflies in her stomach told her she felt the same way.
"I love you too, Severus Snape."
He sighed happily, and pulled her close, falling asleep long before her, holding her close.
A/N 2: Well? Also, I got no responses about my last AN question. If I wrote this story following Luna, Ron, and Harry, would you guys read it? I'm not 100% sure I'm going to, but it's crossed my mind. Anyway, the next chapter is going to be the chapter you've all been waiting for. And my "evil" plot comes to life.
