Havi made his way from Haleceles's office and hurried to his class, running about eight minutes late but not really caring. He passed by Clarissa who shot him a lecture-worthy look but continued on her way. Outside the classroom were about half of the students still enrolled. The Abraham student was babbling about some video game to Vald who looked like he was already asleep. Some girls were chatting quickly and using their phones at the same time, and a few random students appeared to be on their way to leave.
"Unfortunately for you all," Havi said loudly to get their attention, "class is canceled today."
"You're supposed to email us!" one nerdy student complained as he took out his phone.
Havi shrugged. He planned on giving them extra credit just for showing up, so made sure to memorize the students' faces who were present.
Vald woke up and stretched to try and wake up more completely. "No class?" he yawned.
"Nope," Abraham shrugged. "Want to go blow off the next hour at the mall then? The game store just—"
"May I borrow you for a second, Vald?" Havi asked before the student could reply.
Vald nodded and smiled at Abraham. "It'll just be a minute. I'll meet you there."
Abraham nodded and left with the last of the other students who were leaving. Most of them were pulling out their phones and arranging for rides or to hang out with friends. Havi waited for them all to leave before unlocking the classroom and going inside, waving Vald inside after him.
"What did you want to talk to me about?"
"Have you been sleeping?" Havi asked. He didn't look at the student, knowing the answer already and looking for something in his bag.
"Of course," Vald replied with a confused tone.
"Don't lie to me."
"Well… not much, but it's summer. I don't normally sleep that often during the summer." Havi sighed and looked up at his student. Vald seemed a bit embarrassed. "I've been doing my best to not sleep in your class anymore."
"I've talked to Professor Mars and he says you're always half asleep in his class as well. I don't want you to push yourself too far. Are you taking anything to help?
Vald shook his head. "Like I said, it's not a problem. This weekend I'll catch up on some sleep and—"
Havi pulled out a small item from his bag and handed it to Vald. It was a dream-catcher that Clarissa had given him for his birthday last year. He knew they were completely bogus normally, but he had convinced Haleceles to enchant this one to help seal the demon at night. If Vald kept it within a few feet of him at night, then he'd be unlikely to transform and rampage through the city. The only way he was able to convince Haleceles to enchant it for him was because of the continued deaths that Demon Vald was causing.
"You really believe in these things?" Vald asked with a smirk. Despite his cynicism he took it from the professor.
Havi shook his head. "Not personally, but I've never had sleep problems myself. A friend of mine insists they work, so I figured you would have more need of it than me."
Vald smiled and attached the small object to his bag. "Thanks."
They stood there in silence for a brief time before Havi made to leave saying, "If you don't want to blow off your friend, you might want to go meet him now."
Vald hurried to his side and appeared to blush slightly. He laughed and said, "Yeah I guess I don't want that. Will you be on Crimson Spell later?"
Havi shook his head. "I'm busy with something tonight."
"Tomorrow then!" Vald called behind him as he ran to meet with his friend.
Havi rolled his eyes but smiled
