Havi was sitting at a table in the front of the coffee shop reading his book. He had already ordered a coffee and was slowly nursing it while he was waiting for Vald to show up.
The student had emailed him asking if they could meet up to talk about an upcoming paper the class was assigned. It was worth a huge chuck of their grade and anyone with any brains would have already started it by then. Havi suggested they meet at a coffee place because of the comfortable sitting and intellectual atmosphere. Lately it was closer to being a hipster atmosphere but Havi still enjoyed its promise.
Vald wasn't late, Havi was just early. Vald showed up exactly four minutes before their scheduled meet-up and immediately began looking for a place to sit. He noticed the professor and went straight to him.
"You're early," the student laughed. "Here I was hoping I'd be earlier than you."
Havi shrugged and set down his book. "Do you want to order something before we start?"
Vald left to get something and Havi used the opportunity to finish the chapter he was on. Vald came back with a soda and then sat down in the chair closest to the professor.
"So what would you like to discuss?" Havi asked before taking a sip of his rapidly cooling coffee.
"Ummmmm…" Vald began after a minute pause. "What was the prompt again? I forgot to bring it with me."
Havi grinned and produced a copy of the assignment he had brought just in case this happened. He handed it to the student and told him, "In layman's terms, you have to choose either myth or fable. You must define the category and write your own. So if you chose myth, you could define that and then write about why birds have wings."
Vald nodded. "Do you have a sample paper students can look at?"
Havi sighed and sat back in his chair. "Unfortunately not. I've had students take advantage of my examples and try and copy it, no matter how many times I remind them that this will earn them a zero. So I no longer supply an example, but offer my help freely whenever a student requests it."
Vald nodded. "So I can come up with any myth at all? Like even about gravity?"
The professor nodded and finished off his coffee. "You can do however much you want with the assignment. In a way this is also a creative writing assignment as you can come up with your own society or borrow one from history. All it has to do is make sense and follow the guidelines."
They sat in silence for a bit with Vald reading over the guidelines again. Havi watched him, smiling at the way a smile appeared on the prince's face once he was finally getting inspiration.
"Was that all you needed?" the white-haired professor asked.
Vald looked up suddenly. "Um… How are you doing in Crimson Spell?"
Havi lifted an eyebrow. "Fine as usual. Yourself?"
The student blushed slightly but smiled saying, "My friends and I are planning a raid on Zenedora's castle. It'll be hard but we think if we take it slow we should be able to do it. We have another guy who'll help us this time. He's a sorcerer like you."
"HEY VALD!"
The two of them looked up to see a young girl running up to them. Her mother stayed behind somewhat, keeping an eye on her but not wishing to join her. She was smiling widely and ran up to them. Vald took the opportunity to sip awkwardly from his soda.
"Is this him then?" she asked eagerly.
Vald coughed and gasped in shock. Havi didn't say anything but just watched his reactions with amusement. "What?" the brunette spluttered upon regaining his voice.
The girl wiggled her eyebrows at him. "You know.… Him! Your professor!"
Vald's face reddened. "No!"
She smiled and turned to the professor. "Hi. I'm Liz, Vald's friend."
Havi took her hand to shake it. "Halvir. One of Vald's professors."
Liz's eyes flashed pink for a second and her grip on Havi's hand tightened. "Halvir Hroptr?" she asked deadpan.
"Oh you know him from Crimson Spell, Liz?" Vald asked.
"Not exactly," Havi said, mentally smirking. "Right, Bunny?"
Liz released his hand and backed up to be behind Vald. "Vald, I decided I don't like him. Come shopping with my mom and me instead!"
"What? Why?"
"Please?" she begged, trying for puppy-dog eyes.
"Liz!" her mother called her. "We need to be home for dinner."
She looked back at her mother and then returned her gaze to the professor. "You win for now, vile sorcerer." She turned on the charm for Vald and said, "I'll see you tomorrow, right? Oliver said you were coming over to eat dinner with us."
"He did?" Vald and the girl's mother both said, the woman having come closer to drag her daughter back.
Liz nodded. "Don't you miss a family-style, home-cooked meal?"
Vald was obviously confused. "Um, I guess."
"Then you must come over tomorrow for dinner," the girl's mother replied. "I'll make sure everything is prepared and will tell Oliver about giving you the details. I hope to see you tomorrow then, Vald."
The two females waved their good-byes and returned to their car.
"What was that about?" the student muttered.
"Did you say something?" Havi lied.
"Oh, um, how do you know Liz? You even knew her nickname."
"I've played her a few times in Crimson Spell. I've also seen her around campus visiting your young friend."
"But she doesn't visit often?"
Havi shrugged. "Would you like a ride home? I can put your bike in my trunk and save you the time."
"That would be great!" the brunette laughed. "I was just thinking about how hot the ride back would be."
Seriously, the best boyfriend in the world is the one that buys you yaoi. Now that I have all 5 of the Crimson Spell volumes out in English I couldn't be happier. Sorry for the slow updates, again, but that warning is there... so... yeah.
Please review! I really need reviews to know I don't suck at this.
