So today is the two year anniversary of this fic on so I decided to speed up some updating for today. So I'll be posting somewhere 2 or 3 chapters (haven't decided yet exactly how many) today and maybe something else. Hope you enjoy them. Please review and tell me if I'm doing anything wrong or bad, or just to tell me you like it. : )
Havi drove home with a smirk. He didn't think he'd meet Ruruka again in this life. In a way it was annoying because the bunny was already so close to Vald, but the bunny was at such a disadvantage being stuck in a child's body. He didn't know why the ages were so different because he assumed the process of regeneration was just based off of time of death. Well, the bunny may be just as annoying as before, but at least he wouldn't be able to tempt Vald with that human form like before.
Vald snickered a little as he reminded himself that the correct pronoun now was "she." The rabbit really was at a disadvantage.
The drive home was otherwise uneventful. When he arrived at his apartment he microwaved a quick dinner and listened to the voicemail left on his machine. He really wanted to break it but knew it was better than making Clarissa come to his door to yell at him in person.
"Was Vald always so bashful?" he asked the air after he ate. He smiled at the thought of the prince's earlier shyness. "I wish I could remember more about us. Master Haleceles could not supply much information on that front. I now know a little bit about what our relationship was like, but how did I fall in love with you?"
He laid down on his bed, fully clothed, and drifted off into his mind. Haleceles had taught him how to hypnotize himself in order to enter a truly calm state. It wasn't anything as deep as if another person put him there, but it was enough for his brain to stimulate a memory.
Havi saw a destroyed village as he pushed a demonized Vald ahead of him, away from where he remembered some villagers were. He could tell that the two of them exchanged a few words, but couldn't hear them until he had Vald isolated from the others.
"Do you want the villagers to see you like this?" he asked the demon.
Vald, who was apparently still conscious, looked at his hand and gasped.
"When your emotions run high, those markings appear," Havi told him. "I suspect it's all part of your curse."
That hurt the prince deeply. "Gods… what must I look like now? Havi, have you always known this?" Havi couldn't resist reaching a hand out to touch him. "Have you seen me look like… like this before?"
Havi was close to him and stayed quiet. He could feel the prince's heartbeat beating rapidly.
"Havi?"
The sorcerer embraced him, wrapping his arms around the younger man. He continued to feel the prince's heartbeat as it beat against his chest. "I will calm you," he whispered.
"Havi?"
"Hush," the white-haired man whispered directly into his ear.
Havi could tell that Vald was tensed up. But despite that, he could feel the younger man's heartbeat begin to slow and stabilize. He knew that that meant the demon was fading back into Vald's unconscious mind and that the brunette was calming down.
"…Vald."
There was no reply.
"Even if your mind does not remember, your body does. Know that should your heart ever need to be saved as your body does, I will be there."
The prince clearly didn't know it but for Havi that was the equivalent of a confession of love. To show it to the prince, he cupped the prince's jaw with one hand and pulled him into a kiss.
After a blissful moment the prince seemed to regain the use of his body. He reached up and pulled Havi's long hair in order to force them apart. When their lips separated Vald pushed him away with his other hand.
"E-Enough!" the prince yelled. "How dare you do that to me?!"
He ran off and Havi watched him go. "Vald…"
The professor opened his eyes and sat up. His heart felt the pain of rejection as if it had just happened, rather than being a memory from a lifetime ago. Despite it, his love for the prince returned and he knew that Vald still needed protection. Rejected or not, he was determined to stay by his prince's side.
But first, he had to figure out how to restore his lost magical abilities.
