KPOV:
I don't understand.
Legolas continues to hold on to me even though we are out of the mines. I cannot believe he stopped me from helping Gandalf. I could have helped. I could have saved him.
I shove my arm out of his grip and walk away from him. I cannot bear to be near him right now. I walk on ahead of the party when suddenly the pain in my side resurfaces. It is throbbing viciously and more violently than before. I drop to my knees. I am too far for anyone to expect anything other than my grieving mood so this is the best time to try and wrap this wound so blood won't leak through my vest anymore.
I look down and it is not a pretty site. The blood went through my vest and began staining my tunic. I take off my tunic and vest to asses just how bad this wound is. How could such a tiny arrow create this much pain? I tear off the end of my shirt and use it to wrap tightly around my waist. I put my vest and tunic back on and use my cape to cover the small blood stains.
I look back and see that everyone is distraught over the events that just occurred. Aragorn seemed to be the least distraught as he was trying to get everyone up, off the ground.
"Legolas, get them up"
Aragorn directs Legolas to help Merry and Pippin up
"Give them a moment, for pity's sake"
Boromir stepped up, it looked like he was in pain to.
"By night fall these hills will be swarming with Orcs. We must reach the woods of Lothlorien"
Aragorn walks past Boromir to get Merry and Pippin up. He proceeds then to go to Sam.
"On your feet Sam. Frodo?"
We all looked around and didn't see him. I spotted him already walking towards the woods. He turned back and looked at all of us with a face full of sorrow. Oh Frodo.
We all walk to the woods, and not one of us looks back at the mines. I stand next to Frodo' he and I are probably the most distraught at Gandalf's sacrifice.
"It will be alight Frodo."
Silence
"Your thoughts may be safe in your head, but your face is betraying them"
Silence
"Will you take my hand Frodo?"
I stretch out my hand to him, as an offer of comfort. Frodo takes it immediately and grips it tight. I figure if he cannot speak his feelings, then he should have some way of letting them out.
We walk side by side in silence, but I feel as if we are both the same.
Gimli's POV:
The poor wizard. He fell to his death. Those blasted goblins will pay for what they did to Moria. I guess that is why he did not want to travel there. We are entering the woods of Lothlorien, better be on our guard. There is witchery a foot here.
"Stay close, young hobbits. They say a great sorceress lives in these woods. An Elf-Witch, of terrible power. All who look upon her, fall under her spell, and are never seen again. Well, here is one dwarf she won't ensnare so easily. I have the eyes of a hawk and ears of a fox- oh"
Suddenly pointed arrows are all aimed at us. I grip my axe ready to fight these blasted elves. Emerging from the others, is another elf, great. More elves. More blonde elves. Perfect.
"The dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark"
The blond one dares to say such a thing!
"Gimli"
The lass puts her hand on my shoulder.
The new blonde elf is now talking in their fancy elivish speech to Aragorn. I can only imagine what they are saying. Whatever it was it appears that they are letting us pass. That is all I care about.
KPOV:
Aragorn asked for aid from an elf named Haldir. My father mentioned that name to me, maybe they were friends. I remember him saying that if I needed anything and was near Lorien, I should look for an elf named Haldir. He probably does not know who I am; he might not even remember my father. Perhaps I should remain silent on this matter.
Haldir led us to a small area, looked like an outpost set up. Meanwhile, the pain in my side kept burning. Dear lord, I wish it would just stop. The arrow did not look that deep when I last checked it. God lord why does it burn so much? It looks like Haldir is addressing all the people he knows. He knows Legolas no doubt; he is a prince after all. And Aragorn he seems to know. Gimli does not appreciate the elvish language, for he verbally says so.
"We have not had dealings with the dwarves since the dark days"
Oh no, Haldir just lit the fuse.
"And you know what this dwarf says to that? Ishkhaqui ai durugnul!"
Now he did it. Telling the elf that you will spit upon his grave is not a good start.
"That was not so courteous"
Aragorn tries to cover up the great insult Gimli just said. Haldir, however moves on closer to me and the hobbits. He stares at me for a moment but does not notice anything in me. He then stares at Frodo.
"You bring great evil with you. You can go no further"
Aragorn immediately begins to speak to Haldir, trying to get us inside Lorien. Legolas stands close to the conversation but does not intervene. I sit with Frodo and the Hobbits. Boromir sits across from us. Frodo is still holding onto my hand.
"Gandalf's death was not in vain"
Frodo and I look up to see the words coming from Boromir
"Nor would he have you lose hope. You carry a heavy burden, Frodo. Don't carry the weight of the dead"
I think Frodo actually takes Boromir's words to heart. I feel his hand not grasping mine so tightly. I look and see Aragorn and Haldir still talking. I can hear what they are saying and Haldir does not seem to want to grant us passage through. Maybe I should pull out my father's favor.
I gently remove my hand from Frodo's and make my way to Aragorn and Haldir. Legolas stops me by blocking me before I could reach the conversation. He shakes his head at me but I do not care. I walk past him and stand next to Aragorn.
"My lord Haldir"
I bow to him to sow respect
"Forgive me but I do not believe we are acquainted my lady"
"We have a mutual friend. My Ada, he told me if I ever need a favor that you were in debt to him"
He looks closely at my face to try and see who might my Ada be.
"His name was Calemidaer"
Haldir's eyes opened wide when he heard the name.
"You are his daughter?"
"In the flesh my lord"
"I never knew he had a daughter"
"He had two my lord"
"In all my years"
"Please Lord Haldir, grant my fellowship and I passage; as the favor you owed my Ada"
"You must understand that I am in charge of the safety of Lorein's Elves. I cannot allow such an evil into this realm. The consequences of doing so are-"
"- I know what we ask is great, but please trust in us. We would not come here to hurt you or any part of Lothlorien. We come only in peace.
Haldir look puzzled for a moment and then nodded in agreement. He will let us pass.
"Follow me"
Aragorn pats me on the back and smiles. I guess he approved of my butting into the conversation. Legolas bowed his head down at me but I do not return the gesture. I am still upset about what occurred in the mines. Haldir guides us through paths headed to Lothlorien. Wonderful, more walking. I don't know how much more my wound can take. I feel my side going numb; not a good sign. We reach the top of this large hill and see it, Lothlorien.
"Home of the Lord Celeborn and Galdariel, the Lady of Light"
It was breath taking. I felt the same rush of awe that I felt when I first went to Rivendell. I remember Gandalf was the one who took me. I was so fascinated, as I am now. Suddenly my foot trips over something and I fall forward. I grab onto someone, I think it is Boromir. He catches me and tries to help me to stand but my legs just gave out. I think he is talking to me but I can't hear him. He grabs me by the waist to help me walk again and a searing pain runs through my body. My vision, it's beginning to blur. Everything is getting darker.
Boromir's POV:
Kaydriella lost her footing and fell. She grabbed me on her way down and I caught her before she hit the ground.
"Are you okay? Kay, can you stand?"
She didn't seem to even notice I was talking to her
"Kaydriella?"
I feel something warm on my hand and when I look down, I see it is blood. Kaydriella's blood.
"Kaydriella!"
Her eyes close.
"Aragorn, Legolas!"
I call up ahead for help. I pick her up and run to the front.
"Boromir?"
Aragorn looks at me, so does Legolas. They both looked confused until they see Kaydriella in my arms. They both rush over to me.
"What happened?"
"I do not know Aragorn. I think she was wounded in the mines and just never told us."
"How much blood has she lost?"
"I don't know. Legolas she just passed out"
Aragorn looks till he finds where the wound is. He examines it.
"It looks like she has had it for a while; she tried to wrap it fast. Looks like it bled through. We need to get her help now. Haldir, please"
"Come with me, the rest of my soldiers can lead the rest of the party to Lorien"
I follow the elf. Aragorn and Legolas were in front of me in case I needed help. She was almost too light. I could feel her breath weakening each time she inhaled. Finally, we reached the base of a tree and took a moment to breathe.
"It would be best to give the lady to Legolas. He will be able to get the girl to the healing hall faster"
I knew it was true and there was no time for stubborn pride. I gently handed her over to Legolas and looked up at him. We both had a mutual nod, an agreement that she would not die.
"Come Legolas"
And the two elves took her away and up a stair case.
"She will be alight Boromir, she is a fighter"
"Aye, that she is"
"Let us rejoin the others"
Aragorn and I walk in silent, following two elves who claimed they were taking us back to the fellowship. But my mind was completely occupied at the moment. She just better be alright.
"Boromir, Aragorn!"
Merry and Pippin dash towards me and Aragorn.
"Is she okay? Is Kaydriella going to be okay?"
"The elves have her now. They will do all they can"
"But will she live?"
"That young Merry, I don't have an answer"
It seems the rest of the fellowship was listening in. After Gandalf's death, I don't think we could afford to lose anyone else. Especially Kay.
They have us wait by the entrance stairs for Legolas. He hasn't returned yet to the group.
Legolas's POV:
"How much further, Haldir? Her breathing is slowing down"
"We are almost there"
We were dashing down halls and running up steps. I have no idea where I am. All I know is that Kaydriella is hurt and she needs help. She will not die in my arms.
"You stay with me. Kaydriella, you stay with me. Just hang on, we are almost there. You will not die"
I will not let her die. I push myself more and run faster. I run faster than Haldir and dash into the healing room. I find the closest bed and lay her down gently.
"Help! Help please!"
I rip off her tunic and her vest and see her terrible job of a bandage wrap along her side. The cloth is soaked and the wound has worsened. I carefully unravel the cloth from her side and it looks like an arrow in her side.
"My goodness" Haldir finally caught up with me
"Is that an arrow still inside her?"
"Yes Haldir, she broke the neck so no one would see it."
How did I not see this?
"Legolas, we need to go now. Let the healers do their job"
I didn't want to go. I didn't want to leave her side.
"Legolas, we must rejoin the others"
I take one last look at her on the bed. She looks so pale and cold; almost lifeless. Even now, on the brink of death, she looks beautiful. I lower my head and turn away from her. I cannot look at her anymore. It hurts my heart too much. Haldir and I leave the hall, and head back to the fellowship. I look down and see that her blood has stained my tunic. All I can think is that she better survive.
Author's notes
Here we are a nice new chapter. Thanks for hanging with the story. More chapters will come sooner. I promise. Make sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think of the story. I would like to take a moment and honor the late and great Sir Christopher Lee, who has just passed away. May he rest in peace and forever be a guardian of Middle Earth.
