Chapter 3: The 'Dame' Life

Tsuna listened to every word that Nagi said with a bitter taste. He still had a hope that she would say, "Kidding boss. It was all an illusion created by Mukuro." but those words never left her mouth.

After explaining what happened, Nagi excused herself and left. Soon after, Nana came to pick him up. She was saying how happy she and his Oto-san were to have him coming home, along with other things, but it was blown over by his shock.

After arriving to his home, he headed for his room. As he was walking, he tripped over nothing and fell on the floor. "How did that happen? I haven't-." Then he remembered, "Oh yeah, it was all a dream."

After picking himself off the ground, he entered his room, which was covered in trash and books. With a sigh, he threw himself onto his bed. His thoughts were of his dream, Nagi's expression, and school tomorrow. He really didn't want to go, but his kaa-san insisted that he should go and catch up with everyone else in studies, or at least to know what everyone was studying.

After what seemed to be hours of just laying there, thinking, Tsuna finally dozed off. His dream consisted of everyone he had dreamed about for the last month there throwing him a farewell party, wishing him good luck in his old life. He tried stopping them, but they all kept going, at least until Reborn showed up.

Reborn looked up saying, "Tsuna, there are times where you have do things on your own."

"But I want to remain here, with everyone!" Tsuna argued. "I don't want to go to a dangerous place where I don't have any friends."

Reborn gave a small, depressed sigh as he mumbled, "You're still not ready." Everything besides Tsuna and Reborn disappeared, leaving them in a floating black space. "You need to wake up Tsuna, time for school."

The next thing Tsuna knew, Nana was shaking him, telling him, "It's time for school Tsuna, wake up." When she saw that he was awake, she smiled and told him, "Hurry up and get dressed Tsuna, school will start soon."

He maneuvered around his room, noting that he will need to do something about the mess later, before changing into his school uniform. He then headed down stairs where he saw some toast. He grabbed a piece before running to school.

After finishing the toast and tripping who knows how many times, he arrived at Namimori with some time to spare. Once he arrived, he started receiving shocked stares and whispers of doubt starting to arise.

Finally someone asked him, "Dame-Tsuna, y-you ARE alive right? You're not a ghost here to haunt everyone who made fun of you when you were alive, right?"

Tsuna shook his head as he answered quietly, "No, I'm still alive." Out of the corner of his eyes, he thought he saw some evil grins, but he thought nothing of it. Soon after the bell rang, signalling class was about to start, so everyone began heading towards their class rooms.

Class went by as expected, teachers calling on him to answer a, 'simple' question, he gets it wrong, class laughs and the teacher complains about him, teacher remembers that he's been out for a month, and finally gives him large piles of work that's due in the next two weeks, repeat.

He was told to sit out during gym until a doctor approves of him to do physical activities. This received a cheer from both Tsuna and the rest of the class. During the entire gym class, Tsuna tried to complete all of the work that he missed out on. This resulted in him becoming confused and him taking a break, for each subject.

Once gym ended, he was told to clean up the fields. Cleaning up made him late for his next class, which had the only teacher he didn't know. She was as tall as Nana and slightly longer hair, that was raven black. She had gentle eyes and smile on her face.

She introduced herself as Itou-Sensei and asked Tsuna, "Are you the legendary, 'Dame-Tsuna' that I've heard so much about?" he gave an embarrassed nod, and she gave him a comfortable smile, "Don't worry, I'll answer any questions you have, and here's your work."

She handed him a small stack of papers, and he headed for his seat. She was going over the Edo period, but was going over it slowly enough that he understood it. When she asked a question on it, he raised his hand to answer.

When she saw his hand, she picked him, and he answered, correctly. After the shock that THE Dame-Tsuna was able to answer a question correctly, the class started wondering if Itou-Sensei was a miracle worker or if the accident had something to do with Tsuna's head.

The class resumed the lesson until the bell rang. After that class, Tsuna, who's bag felt around a hundred pounds, started on his walk home with a small smile playing on his lips. He was so happy that he failed to notice the group of five kids following him.

Once he reached an empty street, the group swarmed him. "Hey Dame-Tsuna, let's chat. Oh look, an empty ally, let's chat there." Leading him down the ally he pointed out. Once the group surrounded Tsuna, they pushed him down and started beating him.

Some where mumbling how happy they were that they had their stress reliever back, some were mumbling on how he shouldn't be getting so cocky for answering a question correctly, and the last one didn't say anything, and just held a twisted smirk.

After an hour of just being beaten, the kids left. Tsuna stayed on the ground, having forgotten what it was like to go through an entire group beating. He picked himself off the ground and headed home. He remembered that this was his, 'Dame' life, before Vongola, friends, and Reborn.

When he got home, he hurried past his mother, who was cooking dinner, to his room to nap. This was the reason he didn't want to leave, the pain, the bullies, the feeling of being alone, it's just too much for him. As he drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if he hadn't been hit by that car.
