Chapter8
WARNING: Lime in the middle of the chapter somewhere. You are welcome to skip it if it bothers you.
It wasn't long before Kaoru could feel the sun begin to rise, and with it, the rest of the world. Birds began to a song her sensitive hearing could clearly pick up. Sunlight filtered into the room as nocturnal critters fell asleep, waiting for night to come again. Blue eyes opened and squinted against the slowly brightening room. The girl yawned and turned to her back to slowly stretch. The arms that had been wrapped around her slowly slid off, and she shivered at the sparks it created in her.
Her arms raised above her head and she winced at the pulling by her neck. She put her arms down and touched the bite by her neck. It was sore, definitely still healing, but not bleeding. She glanced at the red-haired man sleeping besides her. Her heart sped up at the thought of what they did last night. She could almost remember the taste of his kiss. She licked her lips. Yes, he was indeed the best thing she had ever tasted.
Then she remembered all the other things that were important. Like the fact that they had to leave soon. That Jin-eh was after her. That Jin-eh dug up their bodies. She slowly sat up and processed all this information. Last night had been amazing, the best night of her life, but she knew it would only become a distant memory. She had other places to go now. Other things to do.
She got out of bed and pulled on a shirt she found on the floor. It was the shirt Kenshin himself had been wearing last night. She could still smell his scent on her. She opened the door and began to trot downstairs. She couldn't sense anyone else in the house, a sure sign that no one was back from the "shopping trip" yet. She was a little glad, since she barely had anything on.
She could suddenly sense that Kenshin was awake. Kaoru wasn't sure how she knew this but it was unnerving that she was so attuned to his being. She changed her path to the kitchen instead. She sniffed the air, and underneath the heavy scent of wolves and a human, she could smell herbs. She quickly made her way there, to open the drawer that held everything she knew about. She had no doubt that all this was for Megumi. She was the healer after all, but that didn't mean Kaoru didn't learn a few things from the pack themselves.
Her back was suddenly warmer than before, and the scent she had all over her seemed stronger now. She slowly closed the drawer as she leaned against the warmth behind her. His mouth was on her neck as he breathed. "Morning beautiful." He nipped her skin. "You weren't in bed when I woke up."
"Morning." She avoided his comment before. "Care for some tea? I was just going to make some." She reached for the drawer again, slowly.
"No." He turned her and trapped her against the counter. "I would rather have you." His eyes were a lazy churning of amber and violet. She could feel the desire emit from him. It made her dizzy. She wanted him so much, but she couldn't… not now…. "I want you now" he said as he pressed closer. She realized that he was still naked, unashamed about walking around like that.
His hardness was pressing against her again, and she could almost faint at the feel of it on her thigh. As it was, she had a hard time breathing. "M-maybe now isn't a good time…" He stepped even closer, making sure she had nowhere to go. Her arguments were starting to seem irrational in her head, but she pushed on. "The others might be back soon…" He ignored her and leaned down to kiss her neck. "But… the… ahh…." He sucked on the skin. "Oh! K-Kenshin…. Really the…. Others…." She couldn't remember what she was going to say. She was definitely high off desire.
"Just think of me. The rest will have to wait." He then scooped her up in his arms and brought her back upstairs. He threw her on the bed, a growl low in his throat.
Kaoru giggled. "Kenshin! Stop!" She scrambled to sit up again. He pushed her down and crawled on top of her.
"No" he snarled. He kissed her again. A tangle of tongue with tongue, lips on lips. His hands were desperate to take the shirt off, even if his lips didn't want to leave hers. He growled in frustration and just tore the shirt instead.
Hearing the tearing of cloth brought out feral instincts in Kaoru. She clawed at his back, making him arch. He growled, and she could feel the rumbled of it vibrate through his chest. His hand went up to her hair and yanked it back. Their lips broke apart and he made himself busy with her neck. He kissed down to her bite again and licked it. It sent sparks straight down to between her legs. He groaned.
"Kaoru" his voice was low and husky. "Kaoru, I need you." She didn't say anything. Just pulled his head closer to her skin, and he moved down to her breast. He suckled her and let his other hand massage her skin down to her legs. He grabbed her thigh and lifted it, so her leg wrapped around him.
She couldn't tell what was up or down. All she knew was there were pleasing tingles all over her body. And she wanted more. She wanted him. She yanked on his strangely long red hair. He lifted up to look her in the eyes.
The world seemed to pause. In that one glance, they could feel everything. The desire that fueled their movements, their desperation to hold on to each other, their feelings for each other.
And Kaoru knew. Oh, she had figured it out before, but now, looking into his eyes in the heat of the moment, she knew. She knew he was her mate, her soul, her future.
But she couldn't look anymore. Not at the thought of having a future with him. Instead, she pulled him closer to her, and they made love. Their movements were no longer hurried. They took the time to enjoy the feel of each other.
An hour later, he was leaning on his elbow next to Kaoru. She was still breathing hard, and he was casually stroking her. His eyes looked up and down her body. She closed her eyes and sighed. "Dammit, why did you do that for?" she asked. She opened her clear blue eyes and glared at him.
He smirked. "I thought you liked it?"
"Wha- well-you- Dammit Kenshin!" He was unprepared for the sudden punch to his gut. He lost his breath for a second before finding that his mate was trying to dress herself. He chuckled at the dark look she gave him and the frustration he could sense. She pulled on his other slightly oversized shirt and walked to the door.
He stood behind her in a flash. "Where are you going Kaoru?" He could feel her guilt, so brief he wasn't sure if it really happened, and then irritation.
"Well" she snarled. "Since you seemed so keen on keeping me in bed with sex, I figured I should help my body relax with tea. Maybe give you some so you'll just sleep instead. By the time your pack gets back, you will be so tired you won't even run at this rate." He snorted and she glared at him and opened the door. "When are they supposed to be back anyway?"
He didn't answer and Kaoru turned around to see what was wrong. His head was tilted, as if listening for something. His eyes were distant.
Kaoru stood there waiting until he came back into himself and looked at her. He grinned. "They still have two hours, so if you want to go again…"
Kaoru turned and walked down the stairs. She didn't feel him follow her, instead he let her roam free in his house. She had a thought of running now, while she had the chance, but she knew he would catch up to her in no time. Even in his human form, he was fast. His wolf must be even faster. Instead, she went to the drawer where she smelled the familiar herbs. Kaoru only needed an hour. An hour and she would be where she had to be.
She made the tea, her instincts letting her brew the leaves without a thought and she poured it into a mug. Pouring a different cup of tea for herself, she headed upstairs. He was on the bed, waiting for her return. She stood at the doorway for a second, wondering why she had such a beautiful being waiting for her in such a seductive pose. He had covered his lower half with a blanket, but she already knew him well enough to see what was underneath. He cleared his throat and her eyes shot back up to his. He was amused, damn the man, and pleased with her assessment of his body.
"Two hours Kaoru…"
"No." She internally smacked herself and walked towards him, holding out his cup of tea. He took it, taking a sip right away without taking his eyes off her. His eyes widened in surprise.
"It's pretty sweet."
"It happens when you mix certain leaves together. They become naturally sweet. It's good, right?"
"Mmm." He was taking another sip and putting the cup down on a nearby nightstand. Kaoru sat at the edge, drinking her own tea. "Come closer, Kaoru." His tongue seemed to roll her name in his mouth, tasting her name, caressing it with his breath. She shivered and couldn't stop herself from moving to him. He sat up in bed and leaned against the frame. Kaoru scooted towards him until she could lean back on him.
She enjoyed this close company. It had been many years since she had last been comforted like this. It felt…nice. His body heat was more than enough to keep her warm, and she relaxed into him. He reached for his cup of tea again, taking a gulp this time. Kaoru could feel the way his whole body moved. The muscles under his lean frame as he flexed or relaxed. With his scent surrounding her, she wished she could stay here forever.
Half an hour and a cup of tea later, Kenshin could feel his whole body start to relax. He started nodding off. He tried to fight it, trying his best to gain control of himself. He even let a bit of his wolf out, to fight the sleep, but nothing could be done. Kaoru looked up at him. He could feel the sadness in her. Sadness and guilt, but also determination.
"Lie down Kenshin." She put her cup on the nightstand and scooted over. Too tired to do anything else, he did as she said. He got comfortable and she lay next to him. Content, he closed his eyes. "I'm sorry…" she whispered. He wanted to snap his eyes open. He wanted to ask what was wrong, but nothing seemed to be working. He managed a groan. "Shhh. You should be falling asleep soon." He felt her stroke his hair. "This is goodbye. I'm sorry it has to be this way, but nothing else would work. You'll wake up by the time the others get back." She leaned over him, he could feel her hair tickle his shoulder, and her lips pressed against his in a soft sweet way. "I'm sorry" she apologized again.
She got off the bed, and winced at the words that seemed to form in her head. His words, telling her not to leave. Telling her that she had to stay. She ignored them. They were just her imagination, right? No one can project their thoughts that way. As she walked away, she felt her awareness of him dim, and he was breathing deeply on the bed by the time she opened the door. He was asleep. She stepped out the door and didn't turn back.
She had kept his shirt on her as she walked. She wasn't keen on facing Jin-eh naked. But more than that, she wanted a momento of what could have been. It was now her treasure. The walk to the clearing had been terrible. Most of her wanted to go back to Kenshin. But she knew that she had to undo what was wrongly done. She had to save her family. She had so many responsibilities, and having a mate was just pushed to the bottom of her list.
Jin-eh was waiting, as he indicated he would be. She wasn't even sure he had left, judging by his clothes, which were the same as the previous day. "I was getting worried Kaoru-chan. You are far later than I anticipated you would be."
"I had business to take care of" she said, face impassive.
"Ah. Sleeping with the man whose shirt you wear? Tsk, you know how much he hates that."
"Are we going or not?"
"Very well. You should know the way, right Kaoru-chan?" She walked past him, and he caught a wif of the scent surrounding her. His eyes found the mark between her shoulder and neck. A low growl ripped from his throat. "Mate? You are his mate?"
Kaoru turned around and crouched defensively. "You hurt me now, and Kanriyuu will have your head, as well as your pack's. Turn around and I will run again. I've run once, I can do it again."
The two wolves stared, challenging each other, before Jin-eh finally stood. "You're right of course. We go back to the master. Then we'll see what happens to you."
Kaoru slowly stood and tuned her back to him, but keeping her attention on his ki. He didn't seem to intend to harm her, so she was safe. For now. She walked on, until she could catch the scent of other wolves, wolves she hated. Wolves that destroyed everything.
But as she stepped inside, the man that greeted her was the one she hated most. He was not a wolf. No, he was purely human. He was human, and he was the cause of many nightmares, and many deaths.
"Kaoru, dear, nice to finally have you back." She glared at him. "Now, now, that's not nice. What did I say about that? Or do I have to do some terrible, terrible things?" Two figures stepped out from the shadows, their stature exactly the same as when she last left them. They were no longer covered in dirt. Instead, they were clean. They could almost be normal.
Except, they were dead. He looked the same as when she first met him. His posture showing that he was still growing into his body, his stance relaxed. She looked the same too. She stood standing straing, and looking prim and proper.
But Kaoru knew they were dead. She coud see that their eyes were not really their's. She had seen the death in them, had watched life drain away, and had carried their dead weight upon her back. Her eyes burned, but she dared not show any emotion.
"Well, Kaoru?"
She turned her eyes to the very man who made them like this. Who brought their bodies back from the dead, and put devils inside them. "I'm back," she replied in a high mocking voice. "Kanryu-sama."
Icequeen89-Thank you for the suggestions! I actually decided to make an account on both sites (mediaminer and adultff). I haven't put up the good stuff (cuz everyone knows how incredibly slow I am) but Punishing Love is up there if you want to read it.
Reignashii- I actually checked out the site, but I'm not sure I want to be put on a waitlist, so I just made an account on Adultff and mediaminer. I agree about the filtering, but I suppose there is nothing we can do about that (sigh). We'll just have to tolerate it for the good of fanfiction.
Hotaru Himura- Thanks for starting to read this story. Rurouni Kenshin is a favorite of mine, and I don't know why people don't know about it anymore. I feel like its one of those animes that just sticks forever.
Shab- thank you for reviewing. I'll try to update more.
So that's it for this chapter. It was much longer than I thought it would be. That lemon in the middle wasn't going to happen, but did anyway. I hope all of you like it. Because if you don't I'll be sad. And you don't want me sad, right minna-san?
Don't worry though, I have a whole plot worked out for this story, so hopefully updating will be faster now.
