Chapter 11
The large double doors open and Kaoru once again finds herself steeling her nerves, falling back into old habits. She walks to the middle of the room and grits her teeth as she greets the men there.
"Kanryuu-sama. Enishi-san."
Enishi cuts a look to someone on the side and immediately her head is pushed down to the floor. Her legs fold under her and she finds herself bowing. "What happened to your manners, Little Bird? Don't tell me you forgot everything in such a short time." She grinds her teeth and doesn't answer. His grip on her hair tightens even more.
"Enough Jin-eh." He releases her hair and she lifts herself to glare at everyone who watches her. "It would seem she is no longer ours Kanryuu-san."
"She is here now, Enishi. She belongs to us. That is," He gestures towards the two youngest in the room. "If she would like those bodies returned to where they belong."
She snarls. "You filthy-"
She isn't able to finish. Immediately, Enishi is in front of her and she finds herself already shrinking back. "You will respect Kanryuu-san, haven't we talked about that enough." Her eyes harden at the memories of his 'talks'. She pushes her wolf down and tries to hold in the defensive snarl building in her chest. Enishi's expression remains blank. With an angry glare, she bows her head in submission.
"Enough, Enishi. Let Kaoru come here. I've missed her." Enishi steps back and shoves Kaoru forward. "Come Kaoru." Kanryuu holds out his hand to her. With apprehension, she walks to him and gives him her hand. She is pulled into his lap and she immediately wishes for the comfort of her mate. Gritting her teeth, she pushes the thought from her head. No, he was not hers anymore. She left him. There is surely no way he would want her now.
Kanryuu's hands began petting her, like he has just found a lost pet again. A growl rumbles low in her throat. "Don't be so upset. Your owner has missed you. You were a bad one, running away like that." He shakes his head, and his hand changes from gentle pets to rough handling. She winces as he drags his nails against the skin of her arm, but she says nothing. "Left without a word. You need to be punished for so much Kaoru-chan! You left us without a word! And of course you left us a mess to clean before we could come after you." He tsks. "How irresponsible. But you already know that's not the worst of what you did, don't you Kaoru?" His fingers find her neck and she tenses as he grips it, and lifts her head so she can look into his eyes, eyes that speak of insanity and greed and lust. "You, Kaoru-chan, transformed. You know how I feel about that." His fingers dig into the skin and she stills, wanting to claw off his hands, but knowing what the consequences would be if she did. "I have to admit, of all the wolves I've seen, yours was the most beautiful. I almost want to let you transform, just so I can skin such a beautiful animal and keep it forever. But alas, I like you like this the best." His grip relaxes and his fingers ghost down her neck. He pauses at the mark on her neck.
Her wolf is immediately at attention and snarls at him. Kaoru fights to retain control. She widens her eyes and bows her head. "I lost control, Kanryuu-sama" she says in the soft fake voice she hated. "Please forgive me."
"Hmm." He grips her chin and shoves her face to the side, exposing her mating mark. She winces as the tight skin stretches, threatening to tear. "Enishi, what is this."
"… A mating mark, Kanryuu-san."
"My, my, Kaoru. Seducing other wolves while you were gone? What a dirty little pup you are." He takes his hand away and looks at Enishi.
She immediately finds herself taken by the hair and dragged to the middle of the floor. Her head meets the ground with little more than a push from the older wolf. She swears she sees black for a second.
"What shall I do with her?"
Kanryuu takes a moment to think. She can almost see his smile as he tells Enishi his orders. "Take her to our special room."
She is lifted back up and her claws are already out, heading towards Enishi's face. Her hand freezes as she sees something from the corner of her eye. The two bodies stand with smiles on their faces, even as several guns are trained on them. Her claw itches to finish what she has started, but she knows there is no way her heart would survive it. Her hands return to normal and she resigns to her fate. Enishi says nothing, only leads her to the dungeon where she'll be chained to the wall and dealt with.
She was just coming back to their room after being gone for hours. She had hoped the two kids had already gone to bed, but they were stubborn. They were quiet as she was shoved in, but as soon as the guards left, they were by her side asking questions.
"Kaoru-sensei! Are you okay?" Little Tsubame was always worrying. She knows what they can do.
"What did they do to you?" he asked.
"Not now" she answered.
"Kaoru-sensei, you're hurt." The young girl took her hand and hovered over the red welts on her wrist. That was not the worst of it, and Kaoru was glad her clothes could cover up everything else while her magic healed slowly.
"I'll be fine, Tsubame." Kaoru says firmly. "Now off to bed, you're up way later than you should be."
"We're not children" Yahiko argued. "We deserve to know what's going on."
Kaoru had to pause at that. She couldn't keep protecting them forever… and he was right. They're not children anymore.
"… I was sent to the cell farthest from here."
"You mean…" Tsubame's voice trembled.
"Yes" Kaoru whispered.
"What does that mean?" Yahiko demanded. He was still new to everything.
"It means I was chained to the wall so that Kanryuu-sama could punish me in any way he like" Kaoru muttered. "But I'm used to it by now. He doesn't always find my reactions entertaining anymore." She moved to sit on her bed and winced as her back protested. "So have you two finished your katas today? You must not slack, even if I'm not here."
And the subject was left alone, an unspoken rule created where no one spoke of that cell farthest down the hall.
