*Foreword*
What's up people? The last update was a kind of ice breaker. Been a while since I actually wrote. Now, as you all know, Blake likes to keep some rather interesting novels in her possession. I've heard some people say it would make a good plot point at some time or another. And to be honest, now is as good a time as any other. So, without further delay, let's see how the events unfold, shall we?
Ruby was on cloud 9, kinda. She had been released from the hospital just yesterday, and she couldn't be any happier to be back on her own two feet. The only downsides were that due to her leg injury, sje wouldn't be as fast as before for a couple more weeks, and the injury on her left hand, which hadn't fully recovered yet, prevented her from doing what she loved best; drawing, cooking, baking, and weapon maintenance. And that last one was an especially sore point, as Crescent Rose still needed to be repaired after the mishap in class.
As she had just gotten out, her teachers had permitted her one extra day to be absent from class, so she could get comfortable again in her own room. As it were, this meant she had the whole day to herself, with no Yang, Ren, or even Jaune. Though she loved him, she felt she could use a day without anyone else. Especially with how suffocating everyone was while she was in the hospital. With Jaune, it was sweet how concerned he was with her. With the others, it felt like she was going to be buried under all of their 'care'. Said care including a dozen bears, more cookies than even Ruby could eat, and a basket of strawberries. Oh, and a few roses from Jaune.
With nothing better to really do on her off tome, Ruby decided to read a book. Looking through her shelves, she couldn't find one that she hadn't already read through quit a few times. The one about the half-god kid with powers over water, the one about the girl forced to fights people from like a dozen other districts in a fight to the death, the one about the wizard boy with a name that made you think of a toilet. Yeah, she'd read them all, and could not, for the life of her, stand to read them again so soon. Thinking on it for a bit, Ruby decided to head over to NNWB's dorm and see if Blake had any books that she'd not read yet.
Opening up the door to the dorm, Ruby stepped in to find a rather neatly kept dorm. Now, compared to NNWB, her team only had two members even remotely concerned with cleanliness; Ren and herself. It gets rather annoying to clean up after Yang, and Ren says handling Jaune's share too takes its toll on him as well. In contrast, everything over here looked in place and clean, sans the kitchen. Ruby knew that nobody from NNWB could cook. Nobody. They had often come over to RAYR's room for dinner or some such when they smelled food cooking. They seemed to like Ren and Ruby's food, almost to the point of imposing on them even when it was inconvenient. But that's another story.
So, going to her bookcase, Ruby started rifling through all of Blake's literature. Finding nothing of interest, Ruby got annoyed and banged the side of the shelf. Seeing a few of her books fall out of place, Ruby got concerned and reached down to pick them up. Upon raising herself back up to place them back, she noticed a slightly worn book in the back of the shelf. Curiously, Ruby placed down the books in her hands and pulled out the book from its place in the back.
"Ninjas of Love? Is this some sort of romance novel? Never heard of it."
Thinking nothing of it, Ruby had placed the other books back and left for her dorm with the book in her hands. Returning to her room, Ruby had grabbed a plate full of cookies from the fridge (a gift from Jaune), a glass of milk, and settled down into the couch to read her little acquisition. Checking out the foreword, she saw a warning stating the book was not to be read by anyone under the age of 18. She figured it wouldn't matter none, considering she had seen worse while fighting the Grim. Ignoring the warning, she cracked open the book and began to read.
An hour later, Ruby had gone through a few chapters, and had to either stop out of embarrassment or stop to look something up on her computer. Ruby still though could not believe that these types of books existed. I mean, the content was the kind of stuff you shouldn't do until you're like, married!
At this point, it should be said that Ruby was sheltered as a young girl. She had never really learned about these kinds of topics. Her parents hadn't had "the talk" with her, and Yang had always made sure that when Ruby was around, she would watch her vocabulary and avoid saying anything that could corrupt the younger girl. And with her friends, or lack thereof, Ruby had never really had a conversation or spoken about these kinds of topics. With anyone. This book ended up being a major wake up call to her.
Around 3:30 pm, when the others were getting out of class, Ruby was still engrossed on the book on her lap. She didn't even notice Yang and the others entering the room. Walking over to her sister, Yang looked over her shoulder and checked out what she was reading. And immediately snatched the book from Ruby's dainty little hands. Looking back, Ruby noticed her sister and the others.
"Ruby! What the hell are you reading?! Has my adorable little sister fallen to depravity? Where did I go wrong? And where did you get this book? I'm going to kill whoever gave you this book!" Yang's hair was starting to get that glow, indicating she was entering her 'kill on sight' mode.
"Yang! Yang, Yang, Yang! Calm down." After confirming that Yang had indeed calmed down, and that nothing had caught fire, Ruby began her explanation. "Look, I was bored and decided to read for a while. When I went to look for a book, I had realized I'd read everything on the shelf at least a dozen times each. And since someone won't give me a lift to the bookstore, I haven't been able to get anything new for a few weeks. So I went over to see if Blake had anything to read and I accidently knocked a few of her books down, and behind them was this book. I'd never heard of it before, so I didn't think much of it. I came back here, got out the cookies you guys had gotten for me, and sat down to read this, as I had been doing the past few hours. Though I didn't really understand anything in the book, so I had to look some stuff up. But anyways, I only read it because I had nothing else to read!"
"Wait, so you still read this even after seeing what was in here?"
"Well, you never really explained this stuff to me, and I was a bit curious. So I just kept reading."
Of all the things that she could have… "Ugh, damnit! Fine Ruby, this weekend, we're going to the bookstore and I'll buy you any- no, EVERY book you want. Just promise me you will not try reading something this smutty again, alright?"
"Alright Yang. But can you please explain some of this stuff to me? I'm tired of being treated like a kid."
"Ruby, have you… done any of these kinds of things with Jaune?"
"What? No! No way Yang. I just want to know more about what this stuff means."
"Ugh, fine. I'll talk to you about it later, but I swear you had better not get any funny ideas about Jaune. If you do, your boyfriend will be the next one with an overnight pass to the hospital. Got it?"
"Okay Yang, I promise. Now, about that ride to the bookstore…?" After the older girl had made the promise, Ruby had gotten a slight glint in her eyes. And noticing that glint, Yang immediately decided that she had made a mistake.
"Crap, I really hope dad doesn't mind giving me an advance on my allowance…"
*Epilogue*
Later that night, Yang had gone through with her promise and talked to Ruby about all of the "adult stuff" that nobody had bothered telling her about before, and Ruby was red like roses by the end of the discussion.
"So, in order to… you have to?"
"Yup. That's about the gist of it Rubes. Any questions?"
"Eww. No questions at all. And I'm not doing that stuff ever!"
Watching her sister leave, Yang felt something akin to accomplishment. It took a little embellishment, but she'd managed to get her sister completely off the subject of anything rated above PG-13. If only convincing Ruby of other things like this were so easy. She is too damn clever. Oh well. This time the big sis won. Watch out Ruby, you will never have another leg up on me again.
*Afterword*
So, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I'm gonna try and avoid having this stuff corrupt her. Need her to remain pure and innocent. But it doesn't matter. The next chapter won't be the bookstore run. No, the next chapter has been brewing in my head since I first wrote chap 21, so I hope it ends up pleasing you guys. I'm gonna try to incorporate some fighting into the next chapter as best as I possibly can, as it kind of fits with what I have in mind. Anyhow, thanks for your continued support of Love is a Knight-mare. It's tough, but I'll keep writing so long as I am able, without slacking on schoolwork. Anyhow, see you next chapter.
