*Author's Note*
Hey guys, liked the last chapter? No? Well, too bad. Nah, I'm just kidding. You wouldn't have read it if you didn't like it. Anyhow, as you can all tell, I'm most likely gonna ship Cardin and Pyrrha. Why? Well. A few reasons I mentioned before, namely to get her out of the love triangle. This is to give Velvet the spotlight in upcoming arcs. Regardless of the end result, you guys will likely have some complaint or the other. Sadly, I cannot please you all. But those of you I do please, I hope you will enjoy. To the rest, I remind you that I have no intention of ending this fic at only thirty-something chapters. That's for quitters. Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy.
Jaune was currently laying on his bed, trying to figure out what had just gone on. He'd gotten back from a meeting with Cardin, who'd asked him for advice. On females. Dating them. And not just any female either. One who Jaune considers a good friend, Pyrrha. To Jaune, the thought of Cardin Winchester asking him for advice was ludicrous. But this, this had fried what bit of his mind remained that had not been taken up by combat training and his girlfriend.
But Jaune also sort of felt for Cardin. With all of his bullying, Jaune had assumed Cardin was simply empty inside. If dating Ruby had made Jaune as happy as he was, then he figured that Cardin could benefit from the same type of happiness. Perhaps, Cardin could even become a more productive person. Less of an arse towards Faunus, and kinder to people in general. Jaune reasoned that no matter what, this could only work out well.
Which is why Jaune reasoned that he felt good about having agreed to Cardin's request.
So Jaune hopped out of bed, and decided to take a walk around Beacon. He wanted to get his thoughts in order, and plan out how exactly he was going to make this work. He figured that he had agreed to help Cardin, so he might as well do it right. Taking a stroll around, he had two goals in mind. Find what Pyrrha finds endearing or attractive. The second, was to figure out what to do with that knowledge.
So just wandering, Jaune was left with very few options. He didn't know where to start, nor did he know how to even go about figuring it out. He was lost in his thoughts until he'd bumped into Ruby. Literally. She was just standing in the open, staring at some rose bushes (and briefly considering taking a few) when Jaune, who was similarly not paying attention at the time, walked right into her. This left the two in an awkward sprawl along the ground, limbs and lips tangled. Not that either were objecting, but even their displays of affection towards one another had limits in public. Picking himself up and dusting himself off, Jaune stuck his hand out for Ruby.
"Err, need a hand Ruby?"
"Yeah." Accepting Jaune's offer, Ruby also picked herself up and brushed the dirt off of her skirt.
"So, why the crash entry Jaune?"
"Ruby, promise me you will never again make a pun that lame. Please." After getting Barbara- I mean Yang's, little sister's word that she will never again try to make a lame pun like her older sister, Jaune continued. "I was looking for Pyrrha. Know where I might find her?"
"Sure Jaune, but why do you need Pyrrha?"
At this began an internal debate as to whether or not he should tell Ruby of his plan to help Cardin try and win Pyrrha over. A mental struggle, and a look at his pouting girlfriend later, he finally spilled the beans.
"You see, Ruby. Earlier I met with Cardin. Yeah, I know. He may have improved, but he still has a way to go. Anyhow, he asked to talk to me in a very serious manner. So I decided to listen to him and hear him out. He took me down to Dust in the Wind and got me lunch. Oh, I brought you back some chocolate chip cookies. They're on your bed, in case you're wondering." To which Jaune was rewarded with a quick kiss on the cheek. "And so he asked me to help him get the attention of a girl. But not just any girl. Apparently, Cardin likes Pyrrha. And he wants my help on winning her over."
Ruby's face mirrored Jaune's expression when he first heard it. She could not believe what she had just heard. But unlike her boyfriend, she recovered quickly and then did something completely, totally, and utterly unexpected. She squeed (well, unexpected for the current circumstance.)
"That is so adorable! Come on Jaune, we have to do this! Think about it, Cardin would be nicer if he got a girlfriend, Pyrrha can keep him in line, and of course Pyrrha also needs a social life. She works too hard. It works out perfectly! And it would make for a cute-ish couple. Kinda. Don't you agree?"
Seeing his girlfriend's... err, enthusiasm, Jaune could not help but feel like he'd made the right decision. Maybe. With an actual female's help, he felt like this crazy plan of his just might work. Sadly, Jaune forgot that Ruby's feminine qualities stopped at her physical traits. Her first few suggestions of what Pyrrha might like were all weapons and armor. Her next few were all about books. Most of which were weapon based. It took quite a while before the two got anywhere. They finally settled on just asking Pyrrha herself, as Jaune had originally planned before Ruby began giving crazy ideas.
It didn't take long to find Pyrrha. She was in the combat room, where she normally was when she had some free time. The only thing is that usually she had someone to help her. She practiced marksmanship with Ruby (who was practically her equal, despite having a much crazier weapon), dust based combat with Weiss, and regular sparring with Blake. She would never admit it, but the prospect of taking on Nora kind of scared her. She usually left sparring with Nora to Ruby or Yang, the only two with the strength and insanity to be able to match Nora in a fight.
Anyhow, as she was here, hunting Pyrrha was no problem. What she was doing, on the other hand, would have given one pause, had they seen it. Fortunately for her, Pyrrha's ability to sense Aura allowed her to see them coming. Well, that and Jaune's massive amount of Aura, which he still has yet to fully master the control of, kind of acts like a beacon to anyone with moderate Aura sensing capability. Sensing the two, she turned to meet her friends.
"Hello there Jaune, Ruby. What's going on?"
"Well..." And Jaune launched into this whole, on the spot speech about how he was doing a study for extra credit in his Hunter Studies class. The lesson was about learning the peculiarities of others, including leaders and team members, and learning more about them. They were to make a report of blah blah blah. Bottom line is that Jayne gave Pyrrha this long rant of why he needed to know her preferences.
"Of course Jaune. I'll tell you anything you want to know. Favorite color, height, weight, favorite food, three sizes..."
"What was that last one!?"
"Favorite food."
"Oh, that's what I thought you said."
So Pyrrha told Jaune and Ruby everything they needed to know, and then some. What the two hunters learned, they used to make up a plan to get Cardin and Pyrrha together. After some consideration, they finally settled on a ridiculous, but simple plan.
The plan was dumb, but yet seemed likely to work out. Cardin would walk in on Pyrrha during her usual practice routine, and the two would spar. Ruby, using her knowledge of plants and poisons, would mix a special type of aphrodisiac that, instead of increasing one's carnal desire, simply caused an increase of the release of the chemicals in the brain that stimulated feelings of love. Her father had taught her how to mix such a thing when she was younger, and had her first crush (needless to say, that didn't exactly turn out so well, but that's a story for another time.) The next stage of the plan would be to get the mixture into the air conditioning system in the combat hall, allowing it to spread through the arena. After it had done so, the plan was to have Cardin confess while presenting Pyrrha with some of her favorite cookies, kourabiedes. Apparently, she was addicted to these.
Returning to the room, Ruby began to work on making the cookies. Finding a recipe online was not so difficult, though deciding which recipe to use was. Then again, Ruby, being as good as she was in the kitchen, would have no trouble with any of them. Finally, after reading through enough of them, she simply decided to use quantities from each recipe and see how it turns out. Procuring the ingredients wasn't too hard, as her lacky- I mean boyfriend, had volunteered (or rather, was volun-told) to go grab 'em from town.
In no time, the two had the cookies baked, ready to go, and Cardin informed of the plan. With Ruby's little concoction prepared, and everything else in place, the two were off to see the fruits of their labor.
In the combat hall, it was about time for Pyrrha's usual after dinner practice. And she was there, like clockwork, working on her usual routine. And so enters Cardin, as per the plan. Seeing her cohort enter, Pyrrha relaxed slightly and greeted him amicably. Despite her unhealthy and somewhat insane obsession with Jaune, Pyrrha still felt something towards Cardin. Sometimes, she would try to convince herself it was simply guilt at how badly he got owned before. Sometimes, she would try to convince herself that she loved Jaune, and only Jaune (then again, she also tried to convince herself that her love (read: obsession) with him was perfectly normal and healthy). But no matter what, some lingering feeling toward him remained. What it was remained to be seen.
So, according to the plan, Cardin challenged Pyrrha to a match. With good feelings between the two, she had no reason to refuse. Accepting his challenge, the two adopted their combat stances and prepared to face each other.
At the other end of things, Ruby and Jaune had snuck into the combat hall's A/C containment unit. Jaune, who surprisingly had a good deal of knowledge about such a subject, was the one who put the little mixture into the system. Hoping to avoid the effects, Ruby used her semblance and got the two out of the arena before the mixture got completely into the circulation.
Down in the arena, the two fighters had been at it for a few minutes, and both were starting to sweat it a bit. Cardin's large frame and sizable amount of muscle had given him quite a bit of durability and endurance. This had allowed him to stand Pyrrha's quick and accurate assault. Pyrrha had to use her agility and reflexes to avoid Cardin's heavy blows, and his attempts at reducing her mobility. As opponents, they were a good match due to their opposing styles. A few minutes later, and the two were glistening with sweat, neither having given an inch. Compared to Ruby, Pyrrha's speed did not turn her into a living bullet of flesh, bone, blood, and kung-fu.
When the fight began to slow down, the effects of the drug should have begun to kick in. The feelings that the two were beginning to have started to stray from excitement and battle lust, to a growing warmth. Deciding to end it as a draw, Pyrrha and Cardin collapsed from fatigue. Sorting down together in the middle of the ring, the two began to make simple small talk. Eventually, they reached a conversation about the couple. How they tried to break them up, and all the plans they had come up with that may work. And while speaking, the two edged closer and closer, albeit almost unknowingly.
Looking in from the outside, Ruby and Jaune watched as their plan made progress. As they grew closer and closer, the couple watched intriguingly to see the events unfold from a different perspective. The two errantly wondered if they had looked sort of like this. But the thought vanished, as what they'd wanted arrived. Cardin and Pyrrha leaned in, and kissed! Ruby squeed, Jaune felt a mix of emotions, unsure of how he really felt. But in the end, the result was the same. The two had been successful. How the success holds up is up to the new couple. Things at Beacon are about to get hectic.
*Afterword*
Yeah, I did it. Cry your eyes out, fans of Pyrrha. And as for the current situation, all I can say is Arkos has been SUNK! And my pride as a member of the SS Arc Rose keeps me happy. Well, this was a good way to end it for me. I'll bring these two back eventually. Maybe. I dunno, I'm kinda glad that Pyrrha is outta the way for now. But I'll bring her back for the shits and giggles later I'm sure.
Anyhow, have any of you figured out my blocked out hint from earlier? Probably? Probably not? Whatever, I'm sure you'll see it coming. But anyhow, I do so hope you all enjoy the next arc I have planned. I have debated whether or not to let you guys know what it's about. Normally I don't give out hints, but I have planned something that even I think will be one of my better arcs. So yeah, I'll drop you one word for a hint. "Annual."
That was too obvious, huh? Oh well. Good morning, afternoon, and have a good night. I'm off to sleep. I hope you are looking forward to the next chapter.
