*Author's Note*

Yeah, it's me. I wasn't planning to have something done for a while due to being held up so much on school work, but the massive amount of RubyxWeiss crap I've been seeing lately has made me want to add a chapter to something less retarded, namely Love is a Knight-mare. God, I can only be thankful to those who put up the [Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee] thing. It makes ignoring those fics a LOT easier. Well, I'll save the rest of my rant for the end.

Something was in the air around Beacon. Love, you say? Not at all. The students could only wish it was something so tolerable. No, there was just a mishap on the school grounds, a few students had just practically blown up the Home Ec. Room trying to create some goodies, and the stench from the failure (and other various, burnt and chemically altered ingredients) was so overpowering that the entire wing it was in had to be shut down and ventilated, giving the students a free day.

Now, why would someone be trying, and failing, and make treats on a normal day? Because the day was not normal. Or rather, the week wasn't. The upcoming week would mark what was popularized as 'Pink Week'. Every year, around the same time at Beacon, couples usually started to pop up more.

To elaborate, the story goes back quite a few years, during the time Ozpin was just a student of Beacon, and not its headmaster. At the time, there was a fad going about known as Love Dust. It was a type of mind altering dust that could rewrite the signals in a persons' brain, making them more susceptible to feeling lust or love. Thanks to the popularization of this little thing, the entirety of Beacon academy was overrun with many new couples. Due to some... circumstances, 'Pink Week' eventually came out from this craze. The prevailing rumor is that if you hook up with your crush during Pink Week, you will make it to third base instantly. Well, that was the rumor more popular among the guys. For the girls, the rumor stated that you would find true love. But the rumor that everyone knew about was that during Pink Week, couples had a hard time. There was a rumor going around about how doing certain... recreational and procreational activities could lead to a long, successful relationship if done during Pink Week on Beacon's grounds.

Eventually, these rumors got out of hand, and hoping to avoid the worst of it, Beacon set up a type of Holiday for the school. This holiday, or rather Holiweek, was known as Bleeding Hearts Week. Though it seemed strange at first, Bleeding Hearts was eventually accepted due to the sheer amount of bloodshed during the celebration, from various sources. Not to mention, in Beacon, students were constantly getting injured due to various reasons. During the week, Beacon suspends all classes, and allows the students to celebrate with a week-long festival of sorts. Treats, games, competitions, and more were to be held during this week, being topped off on the weekend with a large dance, exclusive only to couples.

It just so happens that Beacon's most awkward couple was currently discussing plans over whether or not they themselves should participate, or simply take the time to head out to Vale and spend some time together.

"Well Ruby, I hear they're going to have an arcade kinda thing set up. Apparently, there will be competitions for couples to enter and compete as teams. You know, the good stuff! Tekken, Street Fighter, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero."

Well Jaune, I'm just not sure." Giving resistance to the idea was none other than little miss socially awkward herself. No surprise there. "It sounds fun and all, but I'm not sure it'll be for me. So many people around and all..."

This isn't working, thought Jaune. For the past couple of weeks, Jaune had been racking his brain, trying to figure out a way to give Ruby a social day. Now that the chance had arrived, she kept rejecting it! What was he to do? Glancing around at his teammates and friends, Jaune sent a kind of pleading look to each one. It was lunch time, and if the students were at any time awake and conscious enough to think of a good idea, it would be during lunch.

But as Jaune's eyes looked over each of his friends, they simply looked away, either unsure of how to help, or not wanting to. Yang simply looked at Jaune with mocking eyes and a teasing grin, as though she were enjoying his inability to please Ruby. Yang, you bitch. Finally though, Jaune struck pay dirt. His help came in the form of Blake Belladonna, who just so happen to be on the committee for planning the events.

"Well, we are going to have a couple's strawberry eating competition this year." No sooner had Blake finished mentioning this, than Ruby's head snapped around. In fact, it twisted with so much speed you could hear her neck cracking with a loud, audible snap. Despite the slight cringe her friends gave, Ruby paid it no mind, as her mind had just focused on the one thing Blake had mentioned.

"Strawberries?"

"Yup," began Blake, beginning to look interested in where this could go. "The competition will involve one person from the couple feeding the other strawberries dipped in chocolate, or if you'd prefer it, whipped cream. The couple that eats the most strawberries blah blah blah blah..." At this point, Ruby had zoned out. Her brain could only think of two words right now.

"Let's go."

"Huh?"

"I said let's go to it Jaune. It sounds like it'll be fun!"

Oh great, thought Jaune. Her boyfriend pleading earnestly will get no results, but offer her strawberries and she's all for it! Ohh, I feel like I'm rated lower than strawberries to her. This, of course, couldn't be any further from the truth. Many times Ruby has given some of her strawberries to Jaune, something she wouldn't even do with Yang. After feeling depressed for a few seconds, Jaune cheered back up at the thought of going to the festival with Ruby.

"So, Blake," started Yang. Yang whose Cheshire grin let everyone present know she had some sort of evil thought in her head. "What other events will there be?"

"Well, we did plan some normal ones, like booths and gaming competitions. Then there's the Missus Beacon competition, the Cosplay competition, the blah blah blah, blah blah blah..."

The moment cosplay was mentioned, Jaune slightly turned his head so that his face couldn't be seen by Ruby. Why hide his face? Because if Ruby could see Jaune, she'd ask why he was redder than her cape, and he would have to answer her honestly. Because he had just thought of her in a bunch of different costumes for cosplay. And his teenage brain wasn't exactly worried about keeping them PG-13 either.

Of course, with all that went on during this week, couples began to spring up more in Beacon. A lot were fake couples, made up just to allow some to join in on and enjoy the fun of the festival. These types tend to break up almost instantly after the festival. Some couples were those who'd had crushes prior, and just decided that the current time would be the best time to confess. But, it is what it is, right?

Among the current group, there were five who currently were in no sort of relationship; Ren, Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Nora. And out of those five, four were contemplating on how to get in on the fun. Nora, the only one not doing so, had other thoughts in mind.

With the week fast approaching, the group spent their next weekend pretty much like every other student at Beacon. The happy couples were spending time together, and the members of the lonely hearts club were plotting how best to get in on the action. As it were, there were three girls itching to go, and only one nearby available male. Ren ended up spending more time running and hiding than actually doing anything for himself. As far as he was concerned, the next week would be a massive pain in the ass, and he'd rather have nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, a hot blonde, quiet cat, and spoiled heiress had other plans. Preferably those that involved him.

Off with Ruby, she was spending a rare moment away from her friends, and boyfriend, to prepare what she thought would be a nice surprise for Jaune. Jaune was always reminding Ruby that he appreciated and loved her cooking. And thanks to having spent so much time with him (and a lot of girl talks with Nora who knew some things that Ruby had yet to learn about him), Ruby had also managed to find out Jaune's favorite food. As the first day of Bleeding Heart's Week was the next day, she had decided to prepare a special picnic just for her and Jaune.

Putting all of her heart, and quite a few spices, into making the dish, Ruby had come out with what she believed was a masterpiece of a picnic; a plethora of sandwiches made from deli meats she had prepared, including ham, roast beef, and chicken breast. In addition, several sides, including garden fresh salads prepared from vegetables supplied by Velvet (who took almost no convincing after Jaune was mentioned), homemade strawberry applesauce, and a little bit of fried and mashed potatoes. But what Ruby really thought was the piece de resistance was what she'd made for Jaune; a special cheesecake, made with a mixed berry topping and added mint into the recipe. Apparently, Jaune had a thing for mint. Who knew?

As Ruby was finishing up on her special lunch, Jaune was putting the finishing touches on a gift that he had been working on for the past month, solely in anticipation of this event. See, a little talent most people would never expect from Jaune was that Jaune was rather skilled as a jeweler. Since Jaune had been raised with a mother who was big into precious and semi-precious stones, their meanings, history, etc. This had all eventually bled into Jaune, who'd taken several metal fabrication classes when he was younger, and had become quite adept at crafting accessories. Yes, usually not a very useful or even appreciated skill. But it sure as heck was coming in handy now.

Having started so early, Jaune had ample time to prepare what he'd needed for his current project. Said project was inspired after Jaune had noticed that Ruby had never really worn jewelry around him all that often. Acted talking to her about it, he found out that Ruby and Yang's parents had some reservations about buying either of the girl's jewelry. It was because of this that Ruby had never really owned anything special like a necklace, bracelet, rings, or earrings. But in front of Jaune lay a finished product, one that he thought would be perfect for his girlfriend. A custom ring made from a dust-catalyzed and strengthened obsidian with Ruby's Scatter symbol and Jaune's Arc symbol, both done with carefully crafted Rubies (which were by no means cheap or easy to acquire, as Jaune had spent quite a considerable amount of his last several allowances to buy the materials) laid on the ring. As for how Jaune had gotten the measurement... well. Let's just say that he's glad Ruby is a light sleeper, and that Blake was willing to help him be sneaky for five minutes.

With the two lovebirds having finished preparing their own little surprises, and with three of Beacon's more interesting females planning to snap up an unfortunate Lotus, the day before the festival arrived.

*Afterword*

Yeah, not a very long chapter. And I feel I could have done it better. Trust me, the next one will be funnier, and have more of Ruby and Jaune. For now, as you guys can see, I'm currently setting Ren up to go with one of the three others from RWBY itself; Yang, Weiss, or Blake. I'll be honest, I have no idea where I'm taking this. So, let's give a nice little hooyah for democracy then. You all tell me which of the three you would prefer and why. Afterwards, I'll just ignore it, place the three names on a cork board, and throw darts blindfolded until one of them hit a name. Sound fair?

Anyhow, about my earlier rants. I was reading over some of the other fics, hoping to find some inspiration for my stories, and I started to get annoyed. I have made no effort to hide my dislike of any pairings I find stupid, but I also find that having Ruby stuck with Weiss is insanely overdone, killed, and nonsensical. I'll be honest, I'm glad I can see when those one's appear and ignore them immediately. Otherwise, I might end up reading a few fics by accident that would kill my imagination all together.

Anyhow, that's all for my rambling. You know the usual I suppose. Comment, like, whatever. I'll accept all criticism, except for hate. If you send me hate, I will send you a message with a very sad looking smiley face. Kinda like ;_;, T_T, or even :'(. Don't make me, I really don't like having to go that far. But I will if I must.

Good night, sleep tight. Don't let any Beowolves bite.
