Alice's POV
Since I was already looking into the future trying to see past those damn mutts, I luckily saw Edward's intentions. Without hesitation, I tackled him to the ground, stopping him from leaping to his feet and running after Bella and the mongrel. That wouldn't end well for anybody.
"No, Edward!" I yell as he attempts to roll out from under me. Foreseeing his intention, I roll with him so we're in exactly the same position as before. He growls at me. "Damn it Edward! Not now! EMMETT!" I scream as another decision hits me.
Edward, locked into my thoughts, blurs to his feet and tackles Emmett in the exact same instant I dive on his back. Jasper is instantly next to me, adding his strength to stop a rage filled Emmett from going after Bella.
"SHE HIT MY WIFE!" Emmett was roaring repeatedly.
"Who called Edward's mate a bitch so shut up Emmett!" I scream at him, pressing him to the ground.
"Carlisle, stop Rosalie!" I yell, as my vision of the future shifts yet again. Carlisle and Esme hurriedly grab Rosalie who had just blurred to her feet.
She glares at me. "Why tell them Alice?!" She yells.
"You will not hurt Bella, she's part of our family now!" I yell back, knowing full well what Rosalie wanted to do to Bella.
"Stop. Stop this now." Eleazar's voice sounds suddenly as Rosalie bristles in response to my words. Every vampire in the room turns to look at him, even Emmett, still on the ground. It was instinctive, he emanated authority. "You're a family, not a coven. Start acting like it."
Carmen looks worried from besides him. "You're letting this tear you apart. From what I know," she smiles at Eleazar, "love is a wonderful thing. You're all very fortunate to have that kind of love in your family, whether that be for your mates or each other. You," she points at Rosalie, "need to let Edward love Bella, just like you love Emmett. Put your personal feelings aside child. Emmett, you need to let Rosalie fight her own battles, she is definitely not fragile. Alice, I can tell you care for Bella a lot but you cannot always intervene on her behalf either. Edward," she sighs, "I understand your need to protect Bella, but she is not a child. She knows how to look after herself. You need to let her or she'll end up resenting you and possibly leaving for good."
Silence falls after Carmen's advice, it was the most any of us had heard her speak and she smiles shyly at our stunned faces. "You need to keep better control of your children Carlisle and Esme." She laughs.
Esme giggles, light-hearted as usual. "Like anyone can keep them under control."
I was about to laugh and agree with her when my vision blurs and I find myself somewhere else entirely. "Alice?" Jasper's worried voice comes from a long distance away.
"She's having a vision." Edward explains quietly.
"A vision?" I hear Kate ask.
"Alice can see the future. That's her gift." Eleazar explains patiently.
A vampire with bright burgundy eyes is standing there, peering into a window. He is so clear, it's almost like I'm actually with him but I know this is just a vision. I still had some sense of myself standing in the house.
The crimson coloured eyes of the vampire told me he was a human blood drinker, but besides his eyes there was nothing else of interest. He was average looking in every other sense of the word. He had non-descript features, nothing special and especially nothing special for a vampire. His hair was light brown and cropped close to his head and he had a slight figure. His face was twisted into a scowl.
I had no idea who he was but knew he would be intersecting one of our futures soon if I was seeing him now. I just had to figure out whose future he belonged to.
A female vampire suddenly appeared behind the male vampire and he whirled around with an animalistic growl. He relaxed slightly when he saw the woman who shot him a sultry smile. She was feline, almost cat-like in her walk. Her hair was wild, untamed and a bright vivid red as flames colour that were the perfect match to her blood-red eyes. Her face, although pretty and innocent at first glance had an underlying hostility to it, like she could switch from naïve and innocent to a cold blooded killer in seconds.
"What are you doing James?" She asks, her voice a sweet trill, at odds with her feline posture. "I'm so bored of this town."
"You know I'm here for a reason Victoria." James says sharply, peering through the window.
"Tracking the girl, yeah I get it." Victoria's voice was bored and I one smooth move James had her pinned up against the side of the house. She squealed and flung his hand away from her, ducking out from under his next wild grab with a speed I'd never have expected.
James scowled. "One day that gift of yours will fail and I'll hurt you Victoria. You know this girl is important to me. I want to watch her die."
Victoria pouts suggestively at him, like he hadn't just attacked her. "You don't really want to hurt me, James." She giggles. "I'm just bored. I want this to be over. Forks is killing me. Your gift is not working as well as it should, your tracking has been off lately."
"I know." James' face softens slightly. "She's very difficult to track. I keep veering off course but I'm quite sure she's here."
I was aware very distantly of Edward's musical voice and I knew he would be telling the others what I was seeing.
"You weren't wrong this time, James." Another male vampire appeared on the scene. This one had even darker skin that Eleazar and Carmen, as dark skin as one of our kind could have, with his olive hue and long black dreadlocks that hung to his waist. His eyes were as red as the other two.
"I wasn't?" James asks hopefully.
"No. I've seen her." The newcomer says.
"Where?" James asks instantly, his face ecstatic. "Tell me Laurent!"
"Coming back from La Push. She's back in Forks now." Laurent answers smugly.
Alarm bells were starting to ring. I had an idea as to who's future this was.
"Good. We'll find out where she is staying, if anywhere, and when the time is right, we'll kill her." James snarls, his red eyes glowing in anticipation.
"What if she's with other vampires?" Victoria asks petulantly.
"A freak like her will most likely be isolated. But, if she is, then we kill them too. Either way, Bella swan is mine." James snarls.
FLASH
My vision changes.
Bella is walking alone down a street in Forks when James jumps out at her. "Hello Bella. I've been waiting for you." He sneers as Victoria and Laurent appear on the scene too.
Bella pales. "James. What are you doing here?" She sounded like she knew him.
He smiles vindictively. "Killing you. Goodbye Bella."
There was no chance for Bella to even defend herself, he moved that quickly, like he'd been planning this for months. James lunged over to Bella and ripped out her throat with his teeth, yanking off her head, blood splattering everywhere.
And then Bella Swan was dead.
My vision ended and I came back to reality screaming. Edward was rigid in shock, his mouth wide open.
"ALICE!" Jasper roars, shaking me. I hadn't even realised he was next to me. I rattled loosely like a ragdoll in his arms. "Your emotions. Edward's emotions! What the hell did you just see?"
I felt a blast of calmness from him but it did nothing to calm me. "The horrific murder of Bella Swan." I whisper.
