So… I told you guys that I would have this finished before I start college…. That didn't happen and I'm sorry. But I am going to finish it. Today. In this Chapter.

I'm so sorry it took me like two months to do this. It's because of all of you. I had the last chapters planned and when I realized what you guys REALLY wanted to happen and what I really wanted to happen were two different things. Two COMPLETELY opposite things. And I want you guys to be happy with the final chapter. I will be skipping years. Please enjoy.

Epilogue ( kind of )

9 Months later

Clary stood beside her brother, dressed in dark battle armor, on the steps of the Empire State Building. Below them, thousands of people-mundane- crowded the streets. At first glance, they all seemed willing to be there. However upon further inspection Clary could make out the Red uniforms of her brother's soldiers patrolling within and outside of the crowd.

"Today is a new day." Jonathan said. His voice echoed down the streets. "The world you once knew is gone. Today, we all embark on a new journey. Do not fight this change for you will be punished with death and it will not be swift. I am your Lord and Master. I am your King. You will not address me as anything but." He glanced down at his sister.

"In a few moments you will be assigned a job." Clary said. "Most of you should've already taken the Test." A light murmur broke in the crowd. Clary ignored it. "It will be sent directly to your email, with a location, hours, and your housing. Anyone under the age of 16 will be sent to education facilities throughout this country to be trained. Yes, you and your families will be split up." As the yelling began, Clary turned to face her brother.

"I'll be going back to the house, Jon." She said. "There's no need for me here." He nodded once.

"I will follow. Jared will take care of the rest."

Back at the apartment, Clary changed into sweats and a t-shirt and collapsed on the couch with a jar of peanut butter. She had never asked what happened to her old friends. She didn't care. They'd abandoned her and that was all that mattered.

Jace entered the room, wearing a red shirt that clashed with his blond hair. Clary flipped through the channels on the now working television. She stopped at Star Wars. "I heard you broke things off with Jared." Jace said from behind the couch. His voice was quiet and reserved. Clary rolled her eyes.

"What do you care?" Jace shrugged and took the seat adjacent to Clary.

"That you're now available." Clary kept her eyes trained on the TV. They seemed to harden as he spoke. "I heard it was hard. The breakup. You two made it 9 months. What made you lose interest?" Clary didn't answer. "Was he too nice for you?" She pouted her jaw. The snarkiness was coming back. "Did he say yes too much?" Jace scowled. "Was he bad in bed-"

"Shut the fuck up you narcissistic bastard." She snapped at him. "You think you know me? I am not the person I was seven years ago. I do what I want because I want to do it. And fyi Jared broke up with me and I can't tell Jonathan because he'll beat the shit out of him." She rushed all of that out in one breath. Jace studied Clary. His eyes had softened slightly.

"Why did he-" Clary narrowed her eyes.

"Jonathan wants me to have kids." She said turning back to the television. Jace raised his eyebrows.

"What?" It did sound strange.

"Jonathan doesn't want to have kids of his own." She said softly. "He doesn't want to get married and he doesn't want to have children. But he wants heirs. Like now. Jared just… wasn't ready for that."

"So what other options do you have?" Clary pulled her brown blanket over her and rested her head on the arm rest. The half empty jar of peanut butter was now on the floor. She never answered him.

"You broke it off with Clarissa." Jonathan hissed at Jared from the first floor of the apartment building. It was now almost midnight. Clary had fallen asleep on the couch and Jace was gone. Jared gulped.

"Um…"

"I specifically remember ORDERING you to marry my sister. What the hell happened?"

"She doesn't question you." He said slowly. "She's more loyal to you than she was to her father. Sir, I apologize and I am one hundred percent loyal to you. It's just, when you told us that you wanted us to have children… it didn't work for me. Clary wanted to have sex… She wanted to have kids for you. I- I wanted us to want children, for us. To be a family. Possibly in a few years. She started seeing our relationship as a job."
"It is a job, Jared." Jonathan hissed. Jared tried his best to ignore the anger spewing from Jonathan.

"Love isn't a job, sir. I loved her. You don't know what love is, and I'm not saying that in a bad way. You've never felt it. You see possessions and like control. Clary's a possession to you. I loved her smile, the way she laughed, how she liked to fall asleep in my arms. She's not a possession. "

"She's family."

"You see her as a possession." Jonathan laughed. He threw his arms up.

"You know what? I do. I have no idea why she listens to me. I don't think she does either. She's like my own personal doll. I can twist her arm and she'd never notice. It's probably because of all of the bullshit I've fed her about her friends." He shook his head as his eyes grew impossibly darker. "You do realize what my only other option is, right Jared?"

"Yes sir." He lied.

"No way in hell." Clary hissed the next morning. She was groggy from sleep and her back hurt from laying on the couch all night but she was coherent enough to understand what Jonathan was ordering.

"You broke up with Jared so it's your own damn fault." Jonathan snapped back. Clary ground her teeth. She had no idea that Jonathan knew the truth. "Heirs are important."

"You're a demon. It's not like you're going to die anytime soon." Jonathan rolled his eyes.

"But you will. Your life is so short Clar. It goes by in a heart beat. Don't you want to have a family?" Clary nodded slowly.

"Yeah, but Jace?" Jonathan nodded.

"It'll be rough at first, but I think you've already softened a bit with him." Clary growled under her breath. Jonathan smiled slightly then. He knew she wouldn't say no.

"I hate you." She growled walking outside. Jonathan followed slowly.

"You're my sister. You don't hate me." Clary rolled her eyes.

"I haven't forgotten what you did to me." She said sitting in one of the new chairs by the railing.

"Excuse me." She bit her lip.

"You tried to kill me. You cut me and you beat me." She shook her head. "I will never forgive you for that. You called me weak. You said I was a burden."

"You grew up and learned."

"You got jealous." Jonathan didn't say anything. He rested his hands behind his back. "You never told me why you wanted me with you. Or how Jace got on your side. You never told me if my friends were alive or dead-"

"You said you didn't care about them."

"I don't." She scratched her head. "Look, Jonathan. You're my brother. You're the only family I have left. When I was held hostage by the remaining Clave you were the only one that helped me. Jace only made it worse. For that I'm thankful and it's why I try to trust you. But you always have an agenda and at this moment I don't know what that is."

"I took you away from there because I didn't want to be alone." Jonathan raised his eyebrows after he said it because for once he knew he wasn't lying. That was the real reason he wanted her with him. He grew up with Valentine and although he hated the bastard he'd always been there. He growled. He hated emotion. "Your friends… they're in Idris. They're stuck there and they won't be getting out."

"How?"

"How else? Magic." He leaned against the low railing. Jace…" He sighed. "I'm not going to talk about Jace. Clary I need to know that I can trust you." She was quiet for a long time. She stared at the building across from her. She could see men in red walking around.

"You can trust me Jon."

"How do I know?" She chewed the inside of her cheek.

"You're all I have left." She said honestly. "I have no one else but you. If it has to be Jace…" She closed her eyes. "it has to be Jace." Jonathan stared at her for a long while before starting to head back in but she stopped him.

"Why can't you have your own children."? She asked softly. He glanced at her, shrugged and kept walking. She didn't need to know that he didn't want a child like himself. A demon child could ruin his success.

They were stuck. That was the easiest way to put it. They couldn't leave Idris. They tried. "She can't be gone." Jocelyn said shaking her head. It had been nine months since Clary and Jace had disappeared from under them. Nine months since they'd realized Jace was a traitor. "I'd just gotten my daughter back." She said to Luke. "I'd just gotten her back and she's gone." Luke sighed.

"She was never back Jocelyn." He said looking away. "Something's wrong with her and Jace. There's no way they'd-"

"To me she was here." She said. "I could touch her. I could see her. She was here. And now she's gone." Luke kissed her forehead.

"I think we should move on." He loved Clary. She was his daughter in a sense, but the truth was she was a danger to Jocelyn and the rest of the people he cared about.

Alec sat in the living room staring up the wooden beams. He wanted to feel Jace again. He wanted to know that he was okay but he couldn't. He was gone. His best friend was gone. He rubbed his arm and stretched. On top of that, no one could leave. Magnus had tried. So had every other warlock there. Sighing he stood up and went to the window. Everyone knew the mundane world was burning. The oath the original shadow hunters made was broken. Outside the window people were cleaning and even re-building destroyed homes. Alec should've been helping with the reconstruction. At least he felt like he should've been but his brain was otherwise preoccupied with worry. He felt a hand on his shoulder then soft kisses on his neck. He groaned slightly.

"Hey Magnus." He sighed spinning around in his arms.

"Hey,"

5 years later

Clary walked on her toes through her apartment towards the kitchen. She cringed with every squeak of the wood floor and closed her eyes as the fridge whined. Everything was fine until the front door banged closed. Cries erupted from the far bedroom. Groaning Clary dropped the sandwich meat on the table along with her head.

"Is there an off switch?" Jonathan growled covering his ears.

"Yes," Clary whined. "When the apartment is QUIET." Jonathan narrowed his eyes.

"She's four. She shouldn't be screaming so much." Clary rolled her eyes as she rushed into the pink bedroom and pulled a tear stained child out of the crib. The crying immediately died down as she snuggled into her mother's shoulder. Clary kissed her blonde hair as she shifted her into one hand and continued trying to make the sandwich. Jonathan slipped onto an island chair.

"You could always hold her." She said. Jonathan snorted.

"No."

"You should have a relationship with her."

"No." The front door opened and closed. It was quieter though. Jace appeared dressed in the red uniform.

"There's my girl." He said. The child's head shot off her mothers shoulder.

"Daddy!" Clary set her on the floor and let her run to her father. Clary turned back to her sandwich.

"Clar, Jared was looking for you." Jace said as he picked up his daughter. Clary didn't say anything.

"Do you need something Jon?" She asked. He shrugged and hopped off of the stool.

"Nope. I was just bored." He slipped passed Jace and out the front door.

"Why was Jared looking for you?" Jace snapped the second Jonathan was gone. Clary rolled her eyes.

"Why don't you ask Jared?" She snapped. Jace studied her.

"Kayden, why don't you go pick out a movie we can watch?" She smiled from ear to ear and ran into the living room. The kitchen door swung shut. "Are you with him again?" Clary slammed the knife on the counter and spun around.

"What do you care if we are?" She snapped. Jace narrowed his eyes.

"We have Kayden-"

"What's your point?" She growled. "Yes. We have a daughter. We had a daughter for my brother not for us. It wasn't out of love. It wasn't because I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. It was a job." Jace bit his lip. "I loved Jared-"

"He left you." Clary shook her head and pointed at him.

"You are unbelievable. So fu-" Kayden ran back in. Clary kept herself from groaning. It was another Disney Movie.

"This one!" She said waiving the Little Mermaid in the air. Jace looked at Clary and opened his mouth to speak but she'd already turned her back. Sighing Jace smiled.

"Okay, lets go watch it." Clary angrily took a bite of her sandwich and stared at the door to the living room. She really did hate him. Her phone buzzed. She pulled it out her pocket and looked at the caller ID. Jared. They weren't actually together. She's just made Jace think that so he'd get pissed.

"What?" She said.

"Can we talk?" Clary rolled her eyes. "please?"

"Five minutes first floor." She sighed, and hung up before Jared could speak. She threw on a jacket and slipped out of the apartment. They were on the top floor across from Jonathan's apartment. It was the same size with a slightly different layout. The balcony was smaller and the living room and kitchen weren't open to each other. So it did feel smaller. Clary liked it. It was comfortable.

Jared stood by the glass front doors of the building. He was dressed in uniform and staring outside. He noticed Clary as she got closer.

"I came." She said making him jump slightly. Jared had grown older. His muscles were more pronounced and he even had some scruff on his chin.

"Hey." He said. Clary studied him. "Yup. That's it-"

"What do you want?" She snapped. "Because I know you didn't ask me down here to say 'hi.'" Jared shrugged.

"I uh wanted to say sorry." He said looking at the floor. "F-for kissing you last week. I- uh, shouldn't have done that." Clary kept her face neutral. "Your with Jace-"

"I'm not with Jace." She bit out. "Because of you I had to have a child with him. When I wanted-god. Nevermind." She grabbed at her hair and took a deep breath. Jared bit his lip.

"I love you Clary." He muttered. "I've always loved you." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"You should've thought about that before you left." He closed his eyes.

"I know. I… seeing you with him…" He shook his head. "This is all messed up."

"It was messed up the second my brother told me to have a child." Jared smiled at that.

"I didn't want to have a child because it was a job. I wanted to have a child with you because it was you. I wanted you to want a child." Clary rolled her eyes.

"You think I didn't want to have a child?" She asked softly. "The only reason I agreed the first time was because I wanted to. With you. But you blew that up and because I'd already said yes, I was forced with Jace. Now I'm stuck with him." Jared raised his eyebrows.

"You…wanted to?" Clary snorted.

"Of course." He backed away in shock. "I loved you." She looked back at the elevator. "I have to go." Jared made a grab at her hand but she quickly stepped away.

"Wait-"

"I have to go." She walked back to the elevator and pressed the up arrow. The doors slid open.

"Wait Clary," She stepped back.

"I'm done waiting." She stayed calm until the door closed. She let herself slide to the ground as the tears came. It had been a long time since she'd actually cried. As the elevator slowed at her floor she stood up, wiped her eyes and put on her normal face. She walked into the living room passed Jace sprawled out on the couch looking at charts and sat next to her daughter on the floor who immediately snuggled into her lap.

"I love you Momma," She whispered. Clary kissed her blond head.

"I love you too, Kayden."

Yes. That is the end. It has been a struggle to write this story. If any of you stuck through from the beginning I thank you. After what happened at my school almost two years ago I seemed to of lost my interest in writing. My posts seemed to take longer and longer to finish and I am soooo sorry for that. I love you guys as you've been my rocks. You all mean the world to me. I've gone through some serious shit the last few years and you all never left me. SO THANKYOU AGAIN!

I originally planned for Clary to stick with Jared as it seemed that Clary really hated Jace but I realized by reading your comments that you all wanted her to be with Jace. I tried my best to accommodate both your wishes and those of my own so I hope I balanced it enough in this chapter. If you guys would like a one shot of Kayden life in the future (one post) I would be willing to do that for you all. I would add it to the end of this book. If you are interested let me know in the comments. If I get enough people interested (more than five) I'll do it. It may just take awhile as I'm still settling into college.

Thanks so much for the support
