Chapter 9
The stares when Harry walked into the Great Hall the next morning were stifling, and he would have turned and walked straight back out if Rayne wasn't behind him, pushing with one hand at his back into the Great Hall. He couldn't even find it in him to surprised at her strength, though by the perplexed gazes on those closest to the doors, they were. He could see Alexander and Allison sat at the Ravenclaw table, snickering to themselves at the actions of their younger siblings.
Rayne pushed him right up to the older two, and pushed him right into Allison's lap. He could feel himself blushing as his older sister pulled him close and planted a kiss on the top of his head. He could see many a jealous stare from the boys around him, and a few girls cooing at him; he was sure his cheeks were the colour of tomatoes. He turned to glare at Rayne as she settled herself on Alexander's lap, their protective older brother holding her securely around the waist and pulling her right into his chest.
"Did you really put your name in the Goblet?"
They all looked over the table to the young Ravenclaw girl who had sat on the bench. She was perhaps a third year, with long, curly pale blonde hair, with mysterious, crystal blue eyes. She had radish earrings in, and Harry could see she had a necklace of corkscrews tucked underneath her school shirt. She had a light, dreamy voice, almost airy, and Harry was sure he had seen her before.
"Um, no. I didn't. Someone else did - although i didn't ask them too!" He tacked on, panicked she'd take his words the wrong way. "Someone put my name in without my permission." He looked at her imploringly, hoping that this stranger would understand, that someone actually from this school would believe him.
"Oh, of course, Harry Potter. I believe you. You don't have any Dandily Flies around your head - that means your telling the truth." She informed them at their confused blinks. "Oh, of course. I'm Luna Lovegood." She smiled at them all, sticking out her hand forcefully. Harry was startled when a hand reached out for hers, starting again when he realised it was Rayne's - she didn't take well to strangers, and he was 93% sure that they had never met this Luna Lovegood before.
"Rayne Grey." She introduced herself. "This is -"
"Oh, no need to introduce yourself, i already know who you are." She waved a dismissive hand. "Alexander Gates, Allison Cero, Rayne Grey and Harry Potter." She said, pointing to each individual as she said their names.
They all raised an eyebrow at her. She beamed at them.
Harry could quite honestly say he hated this school. Allison kept telling him he was over reacting, that he didn't need to hate an entire school for the actions of a few. But he had told that he could - that it would start of as a few people, and expand until the entire student body despised his entire being. They all hated that he wouldn't tell them how he tricked the Goblet, or how he got past Dumbledore's age line - and none of them would believe him, no matter how many times he told them he hadn't put his name in the goblet.
He knew he was brooding, but he couldn't help it, and the Potions classroom was the perfect backdrop for a session of brooding, even though he knew how much trouble he'd get in if Snape found he wasn't paying attention to the lesson.
He was startled from his steadily darkening thoughts by a poke in his side, and turned to glare at Allison. Only Allison was in the class with him, Alexander and Rayne deciding to gatecrash a Care of Magical Creatures lesson with the 6th years. He knew, really, that they just wanted to spend more time with Hagrid - they had gotten along smashingly with the half giant, and Hagrid absolutely adored the two of them. He was sure, however, that the unicorns they were going to be seeing was an added bonus.
He tuned back in to see Allison stand up, grabbing both of their bags, and watched confused until she grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the classroom.
"What just happened?" He asked as they followed who he recognised as Colin Creevey down the corridor.
Allison gave him a scathing look.
"We're going to 'The Weighing of the Wands'." She told him. "Apparently its required of the champions."
When they got to an old classroom, Colin opened the door and let them in, disappearing a moment later. Inside the room, Harry saw a man he had never seen before with a camera, a woman with large glasses, colourful hair and looking alost like a bug, Bagman, and who he recognised with a thrill to be Ollivander.
Bagman excitedly came up to them, chattering excitedly, and too fast for Harry to bother to listen, and directed them to a row of chairs, almost pushing them into two of them.
"Excuse me, excuse me." The bug-like woman muttered as she pushed Bagman out of the way, and grabbed Harry by his hand, pulling him into a closet a few metres away before he had the time to do anything but blink, shocked, at his sister.
"So, Harry Potter, aged thirteen - "
"Ah, fourteen."
" - youngest champion of the Tri-wizard champion. Entered himself illegally into the goblet. How did you get past Albus Dumbledore's age line?"
Harry looked at her, too shocked to react.
"Hm, no comment huh? Anyway, what do you think your parents will think about this? Would they be disappointed? Angry? Excited? Of course, poor harry hear lost his parents 13 years ago, so we only have guesses -"
And he could have only guessed what she would have carried on saying if the door did bot bang open, almost hitting the woman in the face.
"Excuse me." Rayne said sweetly. She was stood in the doorway, her hands on her hips looking like a sweet demon - if that was even possible. She reached into the closet, grabbed the parchment that a poison green quill was writing on by itself - Harry blinked, how had he not noticed that was there? - and ripped the parchment into half, and then half again, carrying on until it was nothing but small pieces of paper fluttering to the ground. She then held out her hand to Harry, and gave a look that could kill to the supposed reporter.
"It's time to start."
