Chapter 2: Adjusting and Interfering

I drummed my fingers along the edge of my desk; I was in my, thankfully, last class of the day, AP Biology. I'd been attending school for the past week and everyone treated my nicely and acted like I had always attended the school.

Which in a twisted sort of way, I had been. I was still trying to figure that part out. If I had existed in this world before, what had happened to my doppelganger when I had entered via the space bridge?

Anyways, lucky for me, Raf, Miko, and Jack were in all of my classes. It truly abetted to have friends show me around the unfamiliar surroundings seeing as I had gotten lost three times my first day just searching for my locker.

The only class that excluded the boys was my AP Biology. My teacher, Mr. Brunner, had to have been the most boring teacher ever. I mean, I know I never really experienced real school but I think I would take tutor bot over this guy.

I recognized the precise lesson he was presently boring the class with. In all honesty, I had learned it at age five. Perhaps it was a good thing that I had a super genius dad who was willing to push the crap outta his only daughter. I used to think it was cruel but now I realized he knew all along that I was a super highly advanced robot capable of memorizing anything her threw my way… Huh, I'd have to thank him for that one.

At least Miko and I had been passing notes for the last half an hour, relieving me of some boredom. Yes, believe it or not, Miko was in my class. She might have been irresponsible and daring, but that didn't mean she was senseless. I had just finished writing a response to Miko and passed it to Bret, a strong-willed but easily persuaded football jock. He took the message from me, pausing to wink his green eyes, causing me to roll mine. He attempted to offer it to Miko who had zoned out and was doodling a picture of Bumblebee in her Science binder. I once again rolled my eyes, becoming slightly annoyed.

"Miko," I singsonged and when that wasn't affective, I downright lost my temper and whisper-yelled at her, "Miko!" Luckily, I managed to get her attention on the first try. On the downside, I had also engrossed the attention of Mr. Brunner.

"Girls, what is that you have there?" His voice boomed, making me cringe slightly. He pushed his wire glasses farther up his nose, and set his hands defiantly onto his hips as he waited for one of us to respond to him.

How the hell can he detect me whispering and passing a note when half the class is asleep and snoring, and drooling on their textbooks?

I stood up, and involuntarily drew the attention of the room to me, "Mr. Brunner, I'm sorry I didn't want to disturb the class and Miko missed the uh..." My eyes quickly darted to the chalkboard behind him and back to his face, "The formula."

"Well then Ms. Sumdac, perhaps you would like to explain what the formula is," He commanded. When we had arrived to school that first morning, I had entered the Main Office and proceeded to tell a sob story to the secretaries of my father cheating on my mother and how they were getting a divorce so I would like to now be called Sari Sumdac rather than Sari Nakadai. They had sent out a mass email to all her teachers and all of them had yet to slip up. At the current time, I was busy mentally kicking myself to focus on anything else.

What was that formula again?

Thankfully, a bell sounded throughout the school announcing the end of 8th period.

Saved by the bell, how ironic.

"I'd love to tell you Mr. B, but it looks like we're out of school time" I said smirking., closing my binder and grabbing my backpack from where it was hanging on the back of my chair.

"Yes, well even though then, I'd like to see that so called 'formula' note." Mr. B commented, looking between Miko and I knowingly.

I gulped and turned to Miko who gave me a wink as we headed towards the door. Miko dropped a small, folded piece of paper of Mr. B's desk on our way out the door.

"You did what?" Jack screeched as Miko and I cracked up. We had just finished telling him about our unfortunate mishap in Biology.

Miko rolled her eyes, "I said that while Sari was getting lectured about the note passing, I took a piece of paper out of my binder, made it look like it had been folded a few times, and wrote the formula on it." As Jack and Raf stood open mouthed in disbelief, she dug around in her bag before producing a little piece of notebook paper, "Here's the real note," she admitted passing it to Jack who has come out of his stupor and burst out laughing.

He crouched down enough so he and Raf could read it together. A few seconds passed as their eyes darted over the graphite on the note and soon both boys fell to the ground in bouts of laughter. Wiping tears from the corners of their eyes, Jack finally managed to croak out, "Who said what?"

I giggled and then raised my hand, "I was the one to say that he looks like lizard with his green tie and scaly skin." I did pause for a moment though, and realized something.

Did I just giggle? Like because of something someone other than Bulkhead or Bumblebee said? Huh.

"I drew the picture though," Miko claimed and a gave me a high five before sliding down the wall I was leaning on, joining both boys on the ground. I slid down next to Jack and after a few moments of hesitation leaned my head onto his shoulder.

This should be fine, right? I mean, according to Miko we are dating in this world.

I heard a honk and turned to see a bulky green car, a shiny yellow Camaro with black racing stripes, a grumpy (if a car could seem grumpy, Ratchet surely did) red and white ambulance, and finally a blue motorcycle. We grabbed our bags and headed towards our guardians.

Soon we were riding down the highway, and I was talking to 'Bee about my school day as well as just about anything else that crossed either one of our minds. After a week of practice, and downloading a Cybertronian speech package from Ratchet, I was able to understand Bumblebee as if he was speaking plain English. He was so easy to talk to, almost as if we'd known each other forever. Perhaps we had though, in a sense he was almost exactly like my 'Bee. He valued video games, picking on those around him (usually Arcee and Bulk), and wasn't rash enough to test Ratchet's medical skills unless wanting a wrench in the helm.

"Hey Sari, when we get to base we need to show everyone the picture," came Miko's voice through Bee's com link, startling me as 'Bee snickered at my expense.

"Haha. Very funny." I leaned forward and pressed a button on the console.

"Aren't you forgetting something? I have my first date with Jack tonight! I need wardrobe advice, so we can only hang out at the base for an hour."

There was an extensive pause and then finally the sad-sounding, "Alright…"

I smirked, poor Miko. She had really wanted to show Bulkhead the new song that she had learned on guitar. It was essentially pretty good; it was much different than the music she typically listened to so I would bet virtually, if not everyone, on base would love it.

"Talking about me ladies," came another voice, and I blushed, quickly turning off the commlink by smacking Bumblebee's dash maybe a little too hard.

"Ow!"

"Oops," I cringed and rubbed the place I had just smacked hard enough to make my hand tingle, "Sorry 'Bee!"

"So what time are you leaving for your date?"

"About 7:30, and I'm honestly freaking out. I have no idea where he's taking me" I admitted, brushing my bangs out of my face. My hair was tied back into a French Braid with a blue ribbon that matched my optics.

"Then how do you know what to wear?" Bumblebee pointed out, and I groaned. I was about to hit the commlink button but stopped short as the entire car seemed to flinch around me.

"Could you…?"

"On it. Bumblebee and Sari to 'Cee and Jack."

"'Cee here, what's up 'Bee?" Arcee asked with a smug sounding voice.

Oh, she knew exactly why we were calling.

"Sari needs to know where her boyfriend is taking her so she knows what to wear."

"Bumblebee!" I cried as a blush overtook my cheeks. I could overhear Arcee over the comm snorting almost hysterically.

The next voice over the line was the one that should've answered the first time, "Wear something… dressy."

My brow puckered, "Jack, you do realize that this could be ten times easier if you just told me where we were going."

"I can't."

"What the frag do you mean you can't?" I snapped back, only to be reprimanded by Bulkhead, "Language youngling, if Miko can't say it neither can you."

I could imagine said girl sticking her tongue out at the radio so I did just that.

"Knock that off." Bulkhead commanded teasingly. I retracted my tongue and looked around in confusion only to see Bulkhead driving parallel with 'Bee as Miko hung out the window waving.

Another eye roll. Typical.

"What do you mean dressy, she already looks dressy enough!" Bee whirled in confusion as I looked down at the white blouse and blue skirt I currently had on.

"You know he does have a point Jack," I said in the commlink, "Besides this may be the dressiest thing I own. What am I supposed to do?"

It wasn't like Jasper had the best shopping mall.. Where would I find a dressy outfit in such a short period of time.

The voice of our youngest companion interrupted my thoughts and provided the answer to my prayers.

"Raf, are you serious?!" I screeched looking into the mirror. Miko, Raf, and I had swerved from our current course, and went to Raf's house where we had ransacked his sister Kaylee's closet. She was the closest in measurements to me so we figured she could be my saving grace. We had found nothing, and were ready to give up until Kaylee returned home from her college classes to find us raiding her closet.

We figured she was going to be pretty pissed off. Surprisingly, she was pretty chill about it.

Five minutes after she arrived, Kaylee swiftly produced a black zipped garment bag, claiming she had only worn it once. I hugged her, gave Raf a kiss on his cheek, and Miko and I had bounded down the stairs to Bumblebee and Bulkhead. Once we were in our private bathroom at our home, Miko had gone to work transforming me from average Sari Sumdac to drop dead gorgeous Sari Sumdac.

Lip liner, eyeshadow, eyeliner, the whole 9 yards. I had to admit, I loved having all this girl time and made a mental note to make some gal pals once I returned home. I put on the item from the bag which had turned out to be a sparky blue, very tight dress which protruded out into a light blue tutu type skirt at the bottom, and I had on silver strappy had made my glowing blue eyes even brighter with black eyeliner. I had icy white lids, and my lips were a brilliant shade of pink. My hair was straight and reached just past my waistline.

"I can't wear this in public," I screamed at Miko and into Raf's ear since he was still on the line.

"Yes you can and will," Raf said to me. I bit my tongue to keep from squealing 'Raaaffff' like a five-year-old.

"She looks like a model, I wish you could see it," Miko said loudly, hoping that Raf could hear her since the phone was pressed against my ear and not on speaker.

"I already did," I froze and turned to see Miko staring at me, waiting for my reaction, "Nice picture on Twitter!"

"You did what?!" I screamed, and lunged towards Miko. Then, I heard a honk from outside and ran to the window to see Bumblebee waiting, an outline of Jack illuminated inside his window.

"When I get back..." I made a slit throat motion over her throat. Miko gulped and Raf made a whimper noise over the phone. I flipped my phone shut and waltzed downstairs to answer the door.

I did not expect the sight that awaited me. A guy, probably about 19 or 20, just two to three years older than me, was waiting there. He had ice blond hair and baby blue eyes. He had sort of a baby face but that made him all the cuter in my opinion. He looked to be wearing a black tang top that clung to his abs and the yellow leather jacket. A pair of dark wash distressed jeans hung on his hips. A pair of black Vans were on his feet.

"Who," I paused as his baby blues flashed to me, letting a smug smirk overtake his features.

"I expected a warmer welcome from my best friend." A familiar voice rang out and my hand came up to cup my mouth.

"B-Bum-Bumblebee?!" I gasped, and he just grinned.

"Hey babe, when I heard that you looked gorgeous, I didn't know what to expect but damn." He spun me around in a circle, making me giggle.

"Thanks handsome, but why are you the one picking me up at the door instead of my actual date?" I questioned, looking to his alt where Jack was now knocking against the window.

I tilted my head in confusion as he laughed and then looked at me with the utmost of serious expressions, "I tied him down with the seatbelts."

I couldn't help the hysteria from bubbling over, and I would've died laughing if 'Bee hadn't caught me and pressed me against his warm, hard chest.

"Er- Thanks.. So what exactly is this.." I poked him hard in the chest and he swatted my hand away as we started walking towards his alt.

"It's called a holoform, Ratchet invented it. It's basically composed of…"

When Miko heard the front door close, she let out a deep breath and pressed the number four on her cell phone.

He answered after one ring.

"One second," she said and pressed the number two on her phone. He took a little longer to answer but answered by the fifth ring. "Meet me by the library in exactly ten minutes, we're following them."
