Chapter 4: Allies and Advice
"I-I can't believe this." I whimpered and slid towards the ground with a weary look on my face. I crossed her legs and buried my head in my heads, fighting back a migraine.
"Sari." Prowl said, his voice soft. I looked up, and then realized what a miracle was standing before me.
"OH MY PRIMUS, PROWL!" I jumped up from my position on the floor and ran over to the black and gold ninja-bot, scaling his shoulder and awkwardly hugging his helm.
"It's good to see you again Nature Boy." I said as tears of joys welled up in the corners of my eyes.
Prowl chuckled, "How has your training been going?"
I wiped at her eyes, "Pretty good. I can kick everyone's aft at sparring now, including Jazz. We all miss you Prowl, even Bee. Well, even though every time we catch him 'leaking' he passes it off as being upset because he never got a replacement media player."
I sniffed, my heart aching at the mention of my best friend who was currently worlds away. Prowl pulled a tissue out of a hidden compartment in his armor and handed it to me. I took it and blew my nose, and then looked up at Prowl, "You still- You still have tissues in your pocket for me?"
Prowl laughed once more, "Not exactly a pocket, but yes Sari I do. Actually, in the Well of Allsparks my appearance has not changed at all."
I smiled a bit, "So not that it's not great to see you and all but, why I am I here?"
"You are here because you do not belong in your current dimension," I snorted at that.
No kidding.
"The Ancient Primes realize this and know that sooner or later you will be needed again in your own dimension. Your friends are searching for a way to replicate the explosion the space bridge made so that they can come and find you. But they are far from it. That is why the Primes have decided to help you out. There are relics that the Autobots of this dimension need to find. Once they have two of them in their possession, you may return home. But if you want to return home, then you must help them."
"Anything, I'll do anything to see them again!" I exclaimed as I folded her hands into a pleading position. I loved my life in this dimension, but more than anything I wanted to see my father and my Bumblebee again.
Prowl smiled, "I have to go now Sari. I miss you all very much... And tell Bumblebee to look in the hole in the oak tree in my old room." A swirl of colors erupted in front of me, blinding me and causing me to stumble backwards.
Closing my eyes, the light was still too searing so I brought my hands up to my face to cup my eyes. An echo sounded in the distance, and grew louder with each passing second.
"SSSSAAAARRRRIIIIII!"
My eyelids flew open, and I saw four hazy shapes above me, and one sitting next to me. My eyes quickly adjusted and I saw Ratchet standing over me with a wrench.
Yelping, I shot up, and dropped behind the medical berth I had just been resting on.
"DON'T YOU DARE THROW THAT WRENCH AT ME YOU PIT SPAWED FRAGGING PIECE OF SCRAP!"
Sari had been hit with one of those wrenched wrenches earlier this week, and her armor was still dented from it.
BAM!
"OW!" I yelped as Ratchet grinned, expertly tossing another wretched wrench up and down in the air menacingly with an amused smirk.
"Ratchet, didn't you just say that she might have a concussion?"
Shaking my head to reset my neural processor, I transformed back down to my human form, and Jack approached me.
"You okay?" As I nodded, he must have perceived that I was in fact, not okay. Reaching out, he wrapped my arms around me and drew me close. Tears welled up in my eyes as I buried my face into his neck. S
"I met Prowl again," I muttered, almost quiet enough that it was probably very hard for him to hear me, "But long story short, we have some work cut out for us."
(Five Weeks Later)
I rolled my eyes, the Autobots were arguing once again. A lot has happened in the last few weeks. Unicron had awoken, and we had teamed up with Megatron to defeat him.
Ugh, Megatron.
I hated him in our world, but this dimension's Megatron seemed to be a lot worse. I mean, he did almost killed Raf!
Raf and Bee were headed out to race a little bit, when Ratchet got a call from Arcee saying that she, Optimus, and Bulkhead were in need of some backup. I volunteered, but Ratchet barked at me to sit back down. Instead he commed Bumblebee, saying that the others required an assist.
Ratchet had just relayed over the system that if Bumblebee would let Raf out he could bridge him back, when my advanced hearing picked up the faint hum of a jet engine.
"Scrap!" I stood up from my place on the stairs where my Biology book, and notes were strewn about, and sprinted up the steps to the balcony that overlooked the computer.
"Bee, look out!" I screamed, as Ratchet, Jack, and Miko looked at me with puzzled expressions. The sound of a cannon being fired could now be heard by everyone in the base.
"Bumblebee!"
Static was our only answer over the link.
"Bumblebee, are you there?" Ratchet demanded to know, his voice quivering.
"C'mon Bee, c'mon..." I whispered.
Finally, he put us all at ease by beeping, and whirring a few times. I knew what this meant, and translated for the others, "He says he's fine, and that he'll go meet up with the others."
He had also said something else, something that I didn't want anyone but Ratchet to hear. Opening a private comm, I quickly told him to prepare sick bay. He turned to look at me. "Raf." I said quickly, and out loud for all to hear.
"Bridge." I then quipped, and hurdled off the balcony. I landed, and rolled onto the palms of my hands, and tucked into a ball. I then stood and ran toward the bridge, which Ratchet had kindly opened for me. Transforming, I initiated my jet pack and soared through. A battle was taking place on the other side, and we weren't doing too hot. I sprinted towards the nearest 'Con.
Breakdown.
He was fighting Bulk, and the poor guy wasn't doing too well. He had various dings, and scratches, and a steady trickle of energon ran down from his mouth, and as Breakdown punched him, the ooze increased.
"Hey Breaky!" I shouted, and subspaced my hammer, "What is half human, half Cybertronian, and bring a whole lotta pain?" I brought the hammer down on his foot, "This femme!"
As he reached down to seize me, Bulk redeemed his composure, and smashed Breakdown hard in his arm. As he hissed in pain, I dashed away. I went from Autobot to Autobot, helping out wherever I was required.
Soon Megatron showed up, and so did 'Bee, holding the broken form of Raf in his servos. The other bots gasped as I raced over, and scrambled up 'Bee's shoulder.
"Ratchet has sick bay prepared 'Bee," I said, speaking softly. "We'll take care of him."
Bumblebee handed Raf down to me after I queried Ratchet for a bridge. I passed him up to Arcee, just as 'Bee got the bright idea to lunge at the Decepticon leader.
"Whoa there." Bulkhead grabbed onto Bumblebee, and as he struggled I ran over.
Bulkhead forced him to his knees as I grabbed his chin and forced him to look at me, "Bee. BEE! Look at me. We have to go, and he's not worth your time. Raf needs you right now. We need you..."
I finally got him to go into our open ground-bridge, and when we entered Jack, and Miko quickly ran towards us. "Raf!" Miko whispered in shock at the form of the broken boy in Arcee's arms. I had never heard her so quiet.
"Quickly! Into the medical bay!" Ratchet seized Raf from us, and as we trailed behind, I glanced over at Miko. She was being very quiet, but I could understand why. The feeling that you get when you might lose a close friend was one of the foulest in the world.
"UGH! Rafael isn't responding! We must run diagnostics of his assemblage- uh, vital statistics..." Ratchet scrutinized some tools, and then tossed them aside. "Urgh, my tools! They're all wrong!"
"Call your mom," I said to Jack, who whipped out his phone, and started dialing. "Mrs. Darby may be a nurse, but does she know anything about the effects of Energon on the human body?" Ratchet quipped back.
"Wha-? Do you know anything about the human body?!" Jack essentially screamed back. He was on the phone by now, and I could hear his mom on the other end demanding to know why her son was interposing her time at work. "Mom, it's urgent!"
Ratchet then looked back at Bee with a horrified expression upon his face, "'The weak will perish'... be strong, Rafael."
Jack's mom arrived in no time thanks to the ground-bridge, and set to work immediately helping Raf. Bee was freaking out though. Uncharacteristically, he actually lost it, and punched the nearest wall, sending a cloud of debris down on Jack and Miko.
Arcee and I quickly pinned him up against the wall, "Bee, listen! You don't think I know how it feels to watch a partner-" I cut in, "Or friend."
Arcee reflected on what I had interjected and then nodded in agreement, "Or friend... harmed. Revenge won't help Raf right now. You need to keep your emotions in check!" He bowed his helm, and squatted down near Raf.
Ratchet finally decided to have a stroke of brilliance, "Dark energon! That's it... I- I need energon!"
Bumblebee quickly volunteered to fill up a bottle but I disagreed. He was going to need his strength in the upcoming fights. So instead I filled up a bottle, and even as my systems tried to shut down on me, I stayed awake. I wanted to see Raf wake up, to see that this little kid that had virtually become my little brother, wake up and display that cheeky little attitude of his that on most days could almost rival that of Ratchet's.
Jack, and Miko hastily maneuvered the gurney into the decontamination chamber, as I ran in beside them. I kissed Raf's forehead, and we all ran out to the hallway as the room fogged up with energon. When it cleared, and Ratchet opened the doors, I bolted towards the cot.
"Raf," I said softly, "Can you hear me?" Bee had come to kneel next to me, and when Raf opened his eyes, I heard a huff of relief come from his intakes. I awkwardly hugged the still disoriented boy, and then stepped back as Ratchet and others stepped forward.
Once it looked like he was going to be okay I sighed. Soon the room began to tip and I found myself caught by a green servo.
"You weren't able to determine the Decepticons' location? Or even if Optimus was aboard ship?" Ratchet was currently checked over Arcee.
She had made it onto the Decepticon Warship, but was hurriedly bridged away by Soundwave before she had the opportunity to look for Prime.
To the Artic of all places too.
Luckily, Ratchet had tracked her signal and she was back home before the cold temperatures could do any real damage to her systems. "I…couldn't confirm," Arcee admits, a regretful tone to her voice. Bulkhead roars in anger; he was sick, and tired of this. They were getting nowhere without their leader around to guide them.
They were falling apart as a team!
Unfortunately for Ratchet's tools, they took the blow.
"BULKHEAD!" Ratchet cries out. Bulkhead barks, "What? You needed that?" He pounds his two fists together, "The only thing I need is our head honcho back!"
"It's not your fault." Says Jack, attempting to reassure Arcee. She however snaps, "If any of us needed rescuing, Optimus would've found a way! I didn't! Simple as that!"
Agent Fowler then decides to check in. That guy has THE worst timing!
"Ratchet! What happened out there? Reports indicate at least a dozen wounded! The heat is on me to provide some kind of explanation! You bots better get your act together or the Pentagon will make me shut down your base!"
Once the communication shuts off, Raf turns to the 'bots. "But…where would you go?" He sounds concerned, but I don't blame him. I can't imagine life without these guys.
"Who knows? Maybe they'll ship us off to some island! Or fire us into space! Wouldn't that be a welcome relief?" Ratchet retorts with a bitter tone.
"I don't blame Fowler! Optimus would've evacuated all humans from the area before engaging the 'Cons!" Arcee snaps. Bumblebee gets out a couple of beeps before Bulkhead interrupts.
"We don't actually know what Optimus would have done because he's not here!"
I actually flinch at the tone of his voice. It's so harsh! I've never heard him talk to anyone like this before. Let alone Arcee, who'll rip your head off if you really frag her off.
"You're pretty good at stating the obvious, Bulk. Anything else you'd like to mention that I already know?" Arcee stares down the giant 'bot menacingly. He glares down at her, and growls, "Nothing I can say in front of the children."
My eyes widen, as Jack steps forward, "HEY!" He hollers and all optics and eyes go to him, "Aren't we overlooking one positive? Nobody's talking about just what the 'Cons just got their claws on!"
He's right!
"Yes. We've managed to allow them to finally acquire a POWER SOURCE FOR THEIR SPACE BRIDGE!" Ratchet roars.
I'm losing my patience...
"We let them finish their space bridge," I begin.
"Why? So they can bring more zombies back from Cybertron?" Bulkhead conjectures angrily as I shake my head.
Could just one of them allow me to finish my sentence without interrupting?
"No. So we can commandeer it. And use it to send Jack and I to Cybertron," I correct.
The bots begin to protest until Jack butts in, "Nobody is saying that it will be easy. But you've seized a Space Bridge before!"
"We blew one up!" Bulkhead scoffs, "That's a whole lot different than three of us seizing and holding one!" Bumblebee looks at us with an incredulous expression, "You expect the three of us to be able to do this? You're absolutely joking. On top of it all, we don't know where it is!"
"Bee's right," Arcee agrees, "We'd have to find the thing first!"
"Uh, hello! If it's a Space Bridge, isn't it…?" Miko's voice trails off and she points towards the ceiling.
Ratchet flips out on her for that, "The term 'space' refers to its transport range! NOT ITS PHYSICAL LOCATION! And we've been monitoring Earth's orbit since the last one! We'd know if it were there!"
I finally come to realization, "So the bridge could be somewhere here on Earth!" Bulkhead groans, "Like trying to find a servo at a scrap yard..."
"Well then we better start looking!" Raf remarks, and opens his laptop to sync up to the main computer to help Ratchet look for it. I flop back down onto the couch and put my earbuds in, and transforming my right pointer finger into a USB so I can assist in the search.
It's gonna be a long night!
(One Week Later)
Just a few hours ago, I would've been self-conscious or anxious about having him this close. But after the events of the day, I just basked in Jack's presence and arched into his hold. His warm embrace soothing me as my mind raced, reviewing the events of the day in my head.
"Jack, Sari, you have to go on ahead!" Arcee exclaimed as she fired some more shots, Insecticons approaching us rapidly.
"Seriously?" Jack and I exclaimed at the same time in shock.
"Without Arcee? She's their guide!" June protested over the comm link. Jack was currently wearing a space suit courtesy of Agent Fowler and the department whilst I was in robot mode so I could have breathable air. I might be part Cybertronian but I'd rather not take a chance and unlock my helmet and accidentally kill myself. I could imagine the Autobots (my Autobots) would not be happy and my father certainly wouldn't be either.
"No, Nurse Darby. Arcee is only Jack's backup. She could only guide them this far. Once Jack and Sari are inside, the keycard becomes the guide," Ratchet corrected her.
"Arcee, we can't just leave you!" Jack yelled and I nodded vigorously in agreement. Arcee and I hadn't always gotten along since I had arrived here but we had gotten closer in the past couple months and I didn't want to lose her.
"Just go!" She yelled and we took off running into Vector Sigma.
A little while later...
"I just need a little more time!" Jack shouted towards me.
I was a little preoccupied at the current moment. The sound of metal clanging against metal, and snarling rang out as I struggled to keep the Scraplets away from the key. That was what Jack had called the annoying buggers at least. I was praying that I could keep them away from the key long enough for it to reload all of Optimus's memories.
Jack kept complaining about it and I was constantly reminding him that this wasn't like downloading a movie from iTunes and that it took time to download millennia of memories. I was hoping he'd find something such as a crowbar to help me fight them off. Unfortunately, while I was arguing incessantly with Jack, I ended up getting distracted. The Scraplets, as small as they are, managed to pick me up and slam me into the Key and falling to the ground, circuits sparking.
"-ari? Sari? You okay?" Jack was on his knees in an instant, reaching out towards me.
"No Jack! Don't..!" I cried out, trying to warn him of my active lines that were still sparking.
Too late.
Jack had reached out to stop the Energon from leaking out of my right side and as soon as he touched me, electricity sparked and a jolt went through his entire body as well as my own. Suddenly a message popped up on my CPU.
Information transfer? Yes or no.
Before I had the chance to click on anything, my systems selected yes.
Energon transfer? Yes or no.
Once again, the decision was made for me and I blacked out as the Energon began to be drained from my system.
Sometime later...
When I came to, someone was calling my name. My audio receptors were the first things to boot up, and my limbs followed, my optics coming online last.
"Sari?" I heard the voice again and turned my helm towards it to see Arcee standing there in all her glory. She had a couple of scratches and looked pretty tuckered out but all in all she looked pretty decent.
"Sari, what happened? Where's Jack?"
"Hmm...? He was right over-"
I stopped short when I saw a small black and silver being from where Jack had been laying on the ground when I last saw him.
"That's no possible." Slowly getting up, Arcee and I approached the being laying on the ground.
"That looks like-" Arcee began but I cut her off in astonishment.
"Me…?"
The unknown being had a faceplate like mine except masculine. There were no visible eyes. Looking at the rest of the being, it looked very muscular and fit. The main color of the of the armor was a deep blue with silver and white highlights. It looked as to have wings of a sort or maybe a jet pack. There may have been some hidden weapons that were unknown to us at the time being. As if sensing our presence, its eyes snapped open to reveal very bright sapphire orbs. Optics. My optics. I gasped as realization hit me head on.
"Jack?" My voice was shaking with anticipation, "Is that you?"
"Sari? W-what are you talking about?" With his mechanical sounding words, Jack brought his right servo up to his helm.
"Ugh, my head hurts, and my vision is screwy."
"Ahem, correction, your helm hurts.." Arcee butted in and Jack's optics widened.
"WHAT?"
It took a while but we finally got Jack to calm down enough so that we could explain what had happened to him. I can't help but feel like this is my fault. Even after we rescued Optimus and made it back to base safely, I still felt as though it was my fault and I was the one to blame.
Jack and the others told me countless times there is nothing that I could've done and I could not have prevented this. Still, I haven't felt this hopeless since I stabbed Bumblebee and almost watched him die right before my eyes. Coming back to the present, I smiled as Jack pulled back so we were just holding hands, "I just can't believe it! I mean, I'm just like my girlfriend now!"
As I wobbled a little, Jack moved us towards the couch, plopping me down and settling me into his arms. It felt like someone had placed a brick on my head and kept adding one very few seconds. The pressure was starting to increase, and I wasn't sure how much longer I could hold my consciousness if it kept up. Ratchet deserted the routine checkup he had been doing on Bulkhead, and rushed over. He gazed at me, and then down at his large robotic hands. June had left a while ago to clear up some things with the hospital, and no one else had the medical capability that he and June possessed.
Something seemed to click in that processor of his, and he was suddenly tinkering with something in the med bay. Ratchet returned not a minute later, finished latching on a bolt to something connected to his helm. Not a moment later, there was another human standing next to me. Despite my current state, I jumped and buried my face into Jack's shirt.
"Oh relax," I peeked out as the man rolled his eyes and I shrieked again as he made a move to advance towards me.
"Youngling, it's me!" A familiar voice filled my audios, and I looked up to see a man with dark graying hair that somehow had Ratchet's voice. "What the frag Ratchet?!"
"Oh hush, I know that you've already seen Bumblebee's holoform. Is it really that surprising that the rest of us would have them as well? I did develop the program after all."
As Ratchet set up a energon transfusion, I took in all the features of his holoform. He had dark brown hair that was neatly trimmed. It was greying a little bit on the ends, as was the trace of stubble that trailed along his chin. He had a few creases along his face but I could assume that they were more from stress than age. His cobalt eyes were furrowed in concentration, as he pushed his wire rimmed glassed farther up his nose. His hospital slacks were fitting and I was about to ask as to why he was wearing red Crocs (almost if not the same shade of his alt mode), when he stuck me with the IV a little harder than I would've appreciated.
"OW! Primus mech, not so rough!" I winced and he scoffed, "You didn't complain when I was wrapping your bruised ribs after the last fight!"
"That's because I was unconscious, you jerk!"
"Dispatching multiple squadrons will allow us to pursue all four relics simultaneously," Megatron mused as Knockout entered the room with a number of Vechicons.
"Lord Megatron, I've assembled the mining detail you've requested for the first set of coordinates. Breakdown, and I enjoyed previous success in retrieving Iacon relics. In memory of my fallen friend, I intend to do the same again,"
"This is a mission. Not one of your racing excursions. Stop preening! Move quickly and operate with a surgeon's skill! Do you understand me, Knock Out?!" Megatron barked, and Knock Out cowered, "Explicitly, Lord Megatron," Knock Out stammered uneasily.
"Now, since the unfortunate loss of Breakdown left you rather vulnerable, you will require appropriate support," Megatron pointed out, and hearing the resonances of forthcoming peds, Knock Out rolled around merely to perceive something he by no means believed he would see again.
An Insecticon.
"How very repellant," Knock Out mumbled.
"Here's a twist," Ratchet started, a disbelieving tone eminent in his voice, "It would appear that the Decepticons have retreated from Manhattan."
Jack, Miko, and I looked up from the couch where we had been discussing the retrieval of Optimus and how Jack and I had basically been honorary Primes for a few days. I was no longer hooked up to the IV, but was still rubbing at my arm in annoyance.
Jack and I were sitting close together and I was leaning my head onto his shoulder. Miko and Bumblebee had been deliberating something but for some abnormal intention, 'Bee had unremittingly glanced over at me, an untold emotion apparent in his eyes.
I regrettably couldn't identify what.
"They just up and left?" Arcee reiterated in incredulity as we all hurdled off the sofa and came to stand on the balcony that overlooked the computer.
"It is more likely that Megatron has already set course for the second set of coordinates, having dispatched a unit to this relic's underground location," Optimus quantified.
"Without blasting up a city block to get to it?!" Arcee inquired in skepticism.
"They used subways tunnels," I said, causing all eyes to turn to me, "New York has a whole network of them running beneath the city."
"Since the New York population no longer seems to be threatened, maintaining our disguise will be necessary," Optimus pondered, "Arcee, Bumblebee, Sari, you three are the best choice for navigating such a densely populated area."
"Optimus, New York has more than eight million people. The odds of being spotted by at least one of them are pretty high. Even if they are heading underground," Jack advised, stepping closer to me.
"Where are you going with this?" Arcee asked, hint of amusement eminent in her tone. She apparently knew what he was entailing.
"You're gonna need a face man," Jack retorted, before elaborating at the 'bots confused expressions, "Well, someone who can speak on their behalf. A human who can run interference if their cover gets blown."
"Hey," I spoke up and pushed against his shoulder gently, "You're no more human than I am."
"Well, I've actually been in subway stations," Miko pointed out as she marched forward, "I grew up in a major metropolis. Unlike Mr. 'I've-Never-Been-Outside-Jasper-Nevada'."
"I have been to Cybertron," Jack prompted her with a slight smirk, and I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, and I grew up in a futuristic version of Detroit. Besides," I paused to look over his taller frame, "Are you sure you would be up for something like that after what just happened…"
Jack just smirked, "You mean my upgrade? I'm fine Sar, really."
Bumblebee selected that precise second to huff dramatically and I spun my helm to him with a bewildered look.
"Cybertron doesn't have subways!" Miko challenged before questioning docilely, "Do they?"
Agent Fowler's field experience makes him our best candidate," Optimus reminded everyone.
"Baaaaanana fish!" Fowler sat up and shouted from his place on the cot before swaying and promptly passing out again.
"I don't think that would be wise right now Optimus," Raf spoke up, wincing at how hard the Agent had fallen back onto his recovery bed.
Ratchet all but groaned, "If he weren't recovering from his encounter with the Decepticon warship,"
"Which we survived without incident!" Miko bragged smugly and Optimus sighed, "Very well. Jack, and Miko will accompany Arcee, Bumblebee, and Sari." Optimus declared.
YES!" Miko cheered, as Optimus exhaled and resisted the temptation to face-palm, "Initiate transport. Triangulate coordinates of the other three relics."
"I call riding with 'Bee," Miko yelped as the Autobots transformed down but Bumblebee was quick to close his open door, "Actually Miko, I was hoping that I could have Sari ride with me instead, I need to talk to her."
I had been chuckling at Miko's antics but as soon as Bumblebee spoke, I knew that our chat was going to be one of complete sincerity.
No antics.
No goofing around.
Just the utmost seriousness.
"Okay, then I call shotg-", She must have seen the look I was giving her and realized that this was something just between 'Bee and I.
"Never mind," She turned to where Jack was mounting Arcee, "Hey guys, can I have a lift?"
I slid into the familiar and calming interior of Bumblebee's alt, and the seatbelt automatically slid around me, causing me to smile as he 'hugged' me.
"So what did you want to talk about?"
A/N: Finally, I have some new material to post! Writer's block is finally receded a bit and I should have another chappie out soon :) Unfortunately I found out that someone stole my idea. I know that this story line was bound to happen at one point or another, but the fact that their story is extremely similar to mine but still. Some occurrences in their story are WAY too close to mine to be coincidence. I'm pretty upset but I guess there's really nothing I can do.
