Previously on Nightwing: I swallowed, took a deep breath and answered, 'I...'
NIGHTWING'S POV.
"I don't believe that my past is any of your concern, you have no right to know. Now, since you have your little team why don't you tell me why you are still in my city?"
The team looked a little shocked at what I said but as I leveled a very strong bat glare onto the league, they seemed to understand it was necessary. The titans on the other hand seemed almost relieved to see their detached Nightwing back.
The league all in all looked a little shocked at my response. But once I thought about it I realized I probably wanted the team to find out about my past deep down when they came so I didn't act unlike Robin, the league on the other hand could not know I was Robin in any way. I would have to amp up my performance.
Robin, I guess he was a smart ass too, looked up at me smugly and commented a response that made me want to slap him.
"If it is your city, why do you work with a team? Is it their city too?"
Barbara started giggling while Batman pulled Robin behind him protectively because he could sense that I was about to smack the little bugger. Deep down I realized that type of comment is what I would probably have responded with too if I was still Robin. But I couldn't acknowledge that, obviously.
Batman, to anyone else would have looked calm, but I could tell, he was beyond pissed. Maybe that was why he was the one to properly respond to my answer.
"We do have the right to know your past. What if you are an ex criminal? Or are still a criminal using this persona as a cover? Not very much is known about you Nightwing. There are few pictures of you and the ones that are in existence are blurry and grainy, holding no real proof. Some people don't even believe there are 5 titans; they believe the others made you up to strike fear into the minds of the villains you fight."
This is when I smirked. I had made my Nightwing identity carefully. I made sure no one got good pics or any real proof I ever existed except for what heroes and villains say. I wanted to be a myth. I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself so the league would leave me alone.
Maybe that's why I chose to fight Batman's logic with some of my own.
"That could be true about you too. You may not be a myth, Batman, but there is no way to prove that you are not an ex criminal trying to clear your name or make right with yourself. Why don't you tell us all your past? With that logic, why don't we all tell the whole world all of our identities? Sorry you have about as much of a chance of finding out my past as the world has to finding out yours."
I had to congratulate myself on how I handled that. Even Batman was speechless at my defense.
The team and titans were silently laughing to themselves at how I had just done something that only I could do. I had burned and shut up Batman, used his own logic against him.
The shock on the leagues face turned to anger when they realized the team was laughing at what I had just said. That the team was laughing at my outright disrespect towards Batman.
"Oh, so you all think that was funny? I don't care that you have an excuse for why you came here, you are still getting punished. Tomorrow morning be ready for the training session of your life."
Their giggles stopped right then as they stared at Black Canary in terror. She just looked on and smirked at their horror.
Wally looked downright depressed at the fact that trainng meant they would have to leave. And being the little whiny baby that was my best friend, he voiced his complaints.
"Awe, come on, can't we stay with the Titans for a couple more days? Maybe being with another superhero teenage team could help us bond."
I knew that he just wanted to stay to hang with me, the whole team did, I could tell. But he couldn't exactly say that so I guess that was a pretty good excuse for on the spot.
Batman didn't look convinced and the whole league considered what he said while looking at me with distrust.
Green Arrow came up with an idea.
"Hey, how 'bout while they stay here we can stay on the island. Keep an eye on them. Everyone's happy."
Well not everyone. The Titans didn't look that happy at this plan, I, in particular, hated it. Except the team couldn't stay any other way. But I couldn't let the league have it that easy. I could tell they really wanted to keep an eye on me. So that I couldn't corrupt the team with my distrust of the league.
"Who says we are okay with you staying here. We are the heroes of this city, and we will do whatever it takes to keep the city safe. Having the league here will just bring more villains here and will make the city not trust in our independence from the league. We have enough problems with city trust issues because of some of the villains." Cough* Slade *cough. "Who even said you could stay here?"
I had a point, especially if the league's only defense to that statement was when Batman walked up to me with an intense Batglare trying to scare me into submission. Too bad I was immune.
"Is that supposed to scare me…?"

A.N. Bam, done. Hope you like it. I took pity on you and didn't do a cliffy especially after the response I got from the last one. I have a question, I want involve Slade but I'm not sure if I should. What do you think of him? I really want to put him in and it will make my story plan so much easier but if you don't think it is a good idea tell me and I will rework. Ok R&R.
