Supernatural, Castiel, loyalty

He was created to be loyal to Father and to the choirs of Heaven, from the smallest cherub to the mightiest arch. Loyalty has never been a choice in Heaven.

The MorningStar chose another path, and loyalty ensured that many followed him; but still more remained loyal to Father and to Heaven. It was a choice, though few realized.

Castiel remained loyal to Father and to Heaven, even as he battled his way to the Righteous Man's soul in the furthest corner of Hell, even as his brothers and his sisters died to ensure his path. Castiel remained loyal to the perfection of Heaven and the Father he had been created to worship, even as he watched Dean Winchester relearn to walk and speak, relearn to drink and eat, relearn the limitations of his newly-resurrected body.

Castiel remained loyal, even as he began to ponder all of Dean Winchester's strengths and weaknesses. Uriel reprimanded him the one time he voiced any of it, so he kept silent after. But he did not stop pondering.

Castiel had made one choice in all his existence: to remain loyal to Father and to Heaven when the MorningStar began questioning.

Castiel makes his second choice as Dean Winchester turns bewildered eyes on him, begging for help without a single sound.

He was created to be loyal; he remains loyal, still, and though his siblings will damn him for it, he isn't sure if Father will.
