A hard kick to her ribs brought her from her forced slumber, and quickly had her gasping for air.

"Glad to see you're awake." Her step mother snarled with another kick. "You know the rules. If we don't get to eat our dinner on time, you don't get to eat at all." She pulled the Latina up by her hair.

"I'm sorry!" Callie cried.

"Yeah I'm so sure." Natalia picked up the iPod touch that lay beside the Latina. "Where did you get this?" She interrogated.

"It was a birthday gift from Arizona." Callie cried.

"Birthday gift? You don't even deserve to be born." Natalia mocked before throwing it forcefully across the room causing it to shatter when it made contact with the brick wall.

"No!" Callie screamed in protest.

"It's Garbage! Just. Like. You!" Natalia punctuated each word with a kick and punch.

Callie cried as she took the abuse. Each blow was making it harder for her to breathe and keep her eyes open. She felt like she was losing control. In fact she actualy was losing control.

"I said answer me!" Natalia screamed as she pulled Callie's hair, then banging her head against the concrete floor.

Her eye lids began to way heavy as she curled into a fetal position. That's when she lost it.

"You disgusting bitch" Her step-mother growled. When she saw a clear puddle quickly forming around Callie's lower half. "…And clean this up!" With one last kick, her step-mother left her by herself in a world of pain. She'd never felt pain this bad. Pain that was too much to bear. Brown eyes grew heavier the second before her body finally gave up.

Callie lay, passed out, soaking in her own urine.

(few hours later)

The cold liquid on her neck and back forced Callie back into consciousness. "Fuuuck." She groaned as she lifted her head from the concrete floor of the basement. Her head felt like it was repeatedly banged against the brick walls. She wouldn't doubt it did not occur.

She placed her hand down to brace herself to stand. Only when cool liquid kissed her palm, she realized that horrible night she wished was a dream is indeed a reality. A reality she wanted so badly to escape. Knowing that if she stayed there, in that dungeon she would surely die. Callie grabbed her phone and snuck out the tiny basement window. Same as she done before she walked the 3 miles to her best friends house where she knew she would be safe.

(Monday Morning)

Arizona sat in her first period class. She had basketball practice at 5am this morning. So she was a little ahead of the first bell, and the rest of the students. The blue-eyed teenager wondered if her bestfriend would come to school today. But then again, the young Latina was covered in newly formed bruises. The last time she'd seen her.

"Good morning Arizona!" A tall slender, woman with brilliant red hair spoke.

"Good morning Ms. Montgomery." Arizona replied dryly.

"Everything Okay?" Glancing at the empty seat that housed certain Latina except on for a few unfortunate occasions. "Callie's not coming is she?"

Arizona shook her head in conformation.

The teacher placed her hand on the young girls shoulder. "I'm sorry Arizona".

"I just wish we could do more!" Arizona cried.

When Ms. Montgomery noticed the bruises and absences of young Callie Torres, Arizona confided in the woman for help. They tried everything they could think of. But every attempt to involve law enforcement ended up being diverted, on the count of the Torres name. And after every attempt Callie came back with more, and more wounds. "We will find a way". Ms. Montgomery assured.

(later that day)

Arizona drove the quick trip to her bestfriend house. She knew that until 6pm she would be alone. Callie's step mother was always out with her high class friends. And Zulema and Susana were either our with their junky friends or doing sluty things.

Arizona got out of her sky blue 1972 Mustang Coupe , that her older brother Tim had left behind when he left for the Marines. She knocked on the door rather loud, ensuring that Callie would hear her even from her `room'.

"Oh Calliope." Arizona sighed when Callie opened the door reveling her wounds.

"I'm okay really." Callie sounded so small.

"Look at your face! That is not okay!" Arizona explained. As she stepped inside the beautiful house that was her best friends hell on earth.

"Arizona." The Latina said sternly. She hated seeing her best friend getting so worked up about her situation. After all she deserved it. God wouldn't let any of this happen to her if she didn't.

Letting go of the subject for the time being the blonde spoke again, "I brought you Whataburger. I know you probably haven't ate yet."

"Thanks." Callie said sadly. "Do you want anything to drink? Can I get you something to eat. Take your coat perhaps?"

"Calliope don't do that. I told you before you are not my servant."

"I'm sorry, it's a habit"

"You missed school today." Arizona said as if they didn't know.

"Yeah. I had a lot to do around the house." Callie supplied As she sat down on the sofa.

"Do you remember when we I first moved here?" Arizona changed the subject.

"It was our freshman year" The Latina smiled slightly.

"It was hard being the new kid in school but what was even worse they teased me about my name."

" They refused to call you by your name. Instead they called you Texas, Washington and every state" Callie giggled slightly, showing that beautiful smile Arizona yearned for.

"Yeah but do you remember what you did to that kid Tony who wouldn't leave me alone?" The blonde smiled at the memory. "You gave him a wedgy in the middle of the hall. He cried so hard. No one ever messed with me again."

The raven haired Latina was bursting with laughter. "I got detention for a week. My dad was so mad. It was totally worth it."

"Yeah it was" The blonde agreed. "I wouldn't have been able to make it if I didn't have you and Tim that year." Callie grinned. "Over half the team didn't even want to sit by me on the bus after I Came out."

"Yeah well, that was their lost." The Latina said sweetly.

"Every girl in school looked at me like I had cooties, or thought I was secretly in love with them" Arizona rolled her eyes at the thought.

"Any girl would be lucky to have you.."

"Katie sure didn't think so." Arizona spoke. Remember how much her first girlfriend had broken her heart that year.

"Yeah Katie was an idiot, and I never liked they way she treated you anyway. If I was your girlfriend I would make sure you knew how special you really are." Brown eyes trained to the floor.

"Now its my job to make sure you know how talented, smart, and beautiful inside and out you are." A small fair hand cupped the caramel skin of her best friend's chin. Forcing her to look into bright blue eyes.

"I'm none of that" Callie denied.

"You're perfect." Arizona whispered softly.

Callie swallowed hard. The contact from Arizona's hand to her chin was enough to send shivers down her spine. She looked deeply into blue eyes. All she could see is the love and raw emotion. Those blue eyes told so many stories.

"Calliope…" Arizona whispered again.

But Callie couldn't focus her mind was racing and her stomach felt as if a thousand butterflies fluttered constantly in her stomach. Her eyes wandered from blue eyes to soft pink lips. Those lips, she thought about kissing those lips so many times before. She imagined the way they would feel against hers. The Latina licked her lips at the very thought. And when Arizona did the same her breath hitched.

"Calliope…" Arizona tried again. But Callie couldn't hear her. Her inner thoughts were telling her that she had to kiss those lips. Just to lean it and make it happen. Wide brown eyes fluttered close as full lips fell slightly open. Hoping that her best friend would follow suit.
