I do not own Vampire Diaries, but I do own Hope and everything else that you don't recognize:)
Hope tried to drown out Matt and Caroline's voices as she helped Tyler lay down on the couch in the living room off the formal parlor. He winced as he settled back into the dark brown leather, the skin around his ribs where the bullet wound should be still an angry red, but it was fading as time went on. Hope smirked as she pulled a blanket over his still naked body.
"I'm afraid that I've seen more of you than either of us has ever wanted Lockwood." He attempted to laugh but stopped as he gasped and grabbed at his ribs. "That still smarts?"
"Yeah, bullets tend to do that." Hope laughed at his attempt at sarcasm as he grunted and fell back into the cushions. She pulled the blanket and gently placed her hand over the red skin.
"Hope, you're very pretty but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to-"
"Shut up jackass and let me work." She muttered, pinching his arm. She closed her eyes and focused on throwing up her shields high before calling on her magic. Healing magic always took her closer to the veil and it always scared her a little bit, but it was one of the areas of magic she was especially good at. Risky or not, it was a thrill all the same. She felt her hand glow warm as she moved her fingers over Tyler's skin and concentrated the flow of energy into his body. Healing magic was almost like an X-ray machine, and she could see inside of Tyler's body in her mind where exactly the tissues were torn and bleeding still, his body slow to pickup on the more serious internal injury. She watched as the tissues mended and the bleeding stopped. She pulled her hand away and opened her eyes to be met with an awestruck look on Tyler's face.
"How?"
"Magic."
"When?"
"I've always had it, but I didn't start to develop it until I left last spring with my dad." Tyler nodded and was about to say something when his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell asleep, a side affect of the magic still inside his body. She patted his hand and stood up, closing the door behind her as she entered the tension that had been created by whatever her two blonde friends had been discussing.
"Come on, Hope, we're leaving." Matt said as he yanked his eyes away from Caroline, who was desperately trying to keep her tears from falling. Hope bristled at the sight and turned on Matt, her anger blazing in her eyes.
"What did you do?" Hope grabbed Caroline's hand and tried to look Caroline in the eyes but her friend kept looking away. She wouldn't tell her what happened until Matt left, confirming Hope's suspicion that Matt had been the one to cause this. "Matt, what did you do?" She growled out as she kept her hand in Caroline's as she turned on him.
"Hope, you wouldn't believe me if I tried to tell you-"
"Try me." She sneered, cutting him off.
"She's a vampire! The Salvatores are vampires! Tyler's a werewolf for Christ sake and Bonnie's a witch! Not to mention that Elena is a doppelganger and she's been taken by some big bad named Klaus for a stupid sacrifice while everyone is trying to save her. Hope, please-"
"You forgot me." She said simply as she squeezed her friends hand and walked away, trailing her hand over a vase and a couch.
"What do you mean?" He asked. She shrugged and lifted a lazy hand and with a flick of her wrist, the double barrel in his hands disassembled itself and organized itself on the table beside him. His blue eyes grew as he scrambled away from the now lifeless parts, his gaze flickering from Hope's hand to his gun.
"Oh no..."
"Oh yes. Sorry to disappoint." She said flatly as Matt glared at her.
"Don't come near me anymore. Stay away from me." He said as he grabbed his jacket and stormed off.
"Gladly." She spit out before he was out of ear shot. He stopped, his back rigid, but continued and slammed the door as he left. Huffing, Hope waved her hand again and reassembled the gun and it settled back again on the tabletop. She moved to Caroline who had collapsed on the couch, her shoulders trembling with the effort to keep her emotions together.
"I'm fine, Hope, go to your family." She whispered as her friend sat next to her. Hope hesitated, torn, before she squeezed her friend's hand and raced out of the door, borrowing one of the cars in the garage, her magic already ahead of her and starting the ignition as she buckled in and reversed out of the driveway and off to the outskirts of town where the witches cottage resided. Her grip on the wheel didn't lessen as she drove through town at breakneck speeds. She may or may not have changed all the red lights to green, she was too focused on the many possibilities that await her. She was out of town now and pressed the car to go faster as she hit empty roads and farmland. A left here, a right there, and at last she was turning into the long winding road that led up to the decrepit house sat back in the woods, hidden from those who didn't know of it's existence. She pulled up next to her beloved car and jumped out, running full speed to the back of the house, to the basement entrance, momentarily stunned that the sky was already turning a pale lilac as the sun struggled through the remaining darkness. She tore down the stairs and was greeting by her dad talking to Jeremy, both men looking grim.
"Dad." She heaved a sigh of relief as he pulled her into a hug. She let herself relax and breathe, enjoying this rare moment with her father. They pulled away and Hope kissing Jeremy's cheek, ruffling his hair softly. He had grown so much since last spring, and he definitely looked older than her now, besides the fact that she still had a year and a half on him.
"Hope, there's something that I need to tell you." Her dad said from behind her, and the momentary happiness she had felt at the sight of them faded as he explained what he had done in order to save the life of one of his daughters.
"But that means that you die!" She exclaimed and jumped up abruptly from the chair she had been occupying. Jeremy's jaw was clenched as John nodded and attempted to reach out to Hope. She recoiled and threw herself across the room, her whole life turned upside down in the matter of minutes.
"What about me? What about your other daughter? Did you even think about that? Did you even care that you were tearing yourself out of my life? You've owned up to being her dad for a few months, but you've been my dad for 17 years! Do you have any idea what...how could you...please Dad, please." She was whimpering by now, her emotions so high that it made things fly off the walls as she paced past them. Their past had been a rocky one, but this last year had really brought them together. Anger replaced the pain she was feeling, and as she often did, used the anger against whoever had upset her.
"Grayson was a better dad to me than you ever were. Good riddance." She glared at him and then turned away, her shoulders shaking as she stomped up the stairs to the ground level of the house. Alaric, Damon's friend, was there, fuming on his own in a chair cast in the shadows.
"Alaric, I didn't expect you to be here, I thought you would have gone with Damon." He exploded out of his chair and began to pace, his hands tugging at his hair as he rambled.
"I was going to go but Bonnie put a shield on the house! I swear if anything happens to Jenna and I'm not there I'll never forgive myself." Hope was about to ask why Jenna would get hurt when Damon burst through the door carrying a limp Elena. She hurried over to the both of them and watched as Damon lay her gently down on an old couch.
"Move, I got this." She hissed as she shouldered him out of the way. She knelt down and placed a hand gently on her sisters forehead and repeated the process that she had done earlier at the Lockwood mansion.
"Hope?" Elena shifted on the couch and groaned. Hope laughed in relief and hugged her sister with everything she could. She left to go find her dad, leaving Damon and Alaric to deal with Elena. She caught a glimpse of the back of her dad's head leaving the mansion and hurried to catch up with him.
"I didn't mean it." She said as she walked to the door, but her father was already falling to ground.
He was gone by the time she reached him.
