A/N: Inion is daughter.
Nora spun around in the open space her dirty skirt spinning around her as she did. She laughed and stared up at the night sky clearly amazed at what she saw. She stopped her spinning putting a hand to her head still giggling.
"I feel so alive. I can feel and smell everything." She said excitedly running over to Kyrie. She took the elder vampires hands in her own dragging her out and began spinning with her. Kyrie couldn't help but laugh at the girls happiness. Her smile was infectious and her laugh was full of life.
"Now Nora." Kyrie stated stopping the girl. "We must feed. Come with me my pretty." She held onto Nora's hand tightly as they made there way back over to Godric and Eric. Eric held out Kyries lost top from the night before. She smiled at her son taking it from him.
"Nora this is Eric. He is your elder brother." Godric said as Kyrie had to hand off her new daughter to Godric in order for her to fix her top back in place. Nora eyed Eric carefully at first before she finally summed up her courage to look up at him fully. Eric met her eyes and smiled at her warmly.
"Hello Nora. It is good to meet you." He said softly. Nora smiled shyly up at the former Viking king before looking away.
"Kyrie are you set?" Godric asked as she tied the last of the string on her bodice. Se nodded at him once.
"Then let us be off, shall we?" Godric stated more than asked. As they raced through the wooded area Kyrie kept an eye on her maker and progenys. Her human family had been fairly large with three elder brothers and four younger sisters. She had been the eldest girl out of the group.
It was the custom of her clan to have large families in order to help with planting seasons and hunting. The girls her own age at that time had obeyed their parents and married in their thirteenth year. By the time Kyrie had left quite a few already had two to three children clinging to them. She supposed it had only enforced her vigor to not end up in that predicament.
Eric ran alongside her smiling down at her in his way. Kyrie returned it grateful for her own child. She wouldn't trade him for anything. They stopped behind Godric and Nora a they reached the edge of the small village.
"Eric go out and find a human for your sister." Godric said.
"Yes Godric." He replied. Nora watched with wide eyes as Eric walked off.
"What are you we doing here?" She asked staring at Kyrie intently as she came up alongside her.
"You are going to feed." Kyrie said.
"Feed? You make it sound as if I'm a bit of livestock." She replied. Godric smiled broadly at the girl. He turned to her and reached out a hand to her cheek.
"You are going to be quite the handful, just like your mother and brother." He said with great amusement.
"You told him to get a human, why?" Nora asked.
"We are vampires Nora, the undead. We sleep during the day as the dead do and roam the lands at night to feed. Being that we are undead we must feed off the blood of the living." Godric stated.
Nora inched away from him slightly and opened her mouth to protest. "It is how we survive. Survival is everything." He said placing a finger against her lips. Noras gaze moved over to Eric as he walked over to them leading a female behind him. She made a move to take a step back only to back into Kyrie as she stood behind her.
"Do you smell her?" Kyrie whispered into Noras ear. Nora nodded her head a few times. "Hear her heart beating?"
"Yes." Nora whispered back. Her tone took on one of anticipation as her fangs descended down for the first time. Godric pulled Nora closer towards the woman as she stood obediently with Eric behind her assuringly. "Why is she just standing there?" Nora turned to Godric in question.
"I have glamoured her so she won't make a sound and she won't feel pain." Eric replied.
"Glamoured?" Nora stumbled over the strange word slightly.
"All in due time." Godric replied placing a hand under her chin to advert her gaze back to the woman. "Now the most convenient location to feed is the side of the neck however if that is inaccessible then the wrist will do." He took hold of the womans hand exposing her wrist. He held it up to Nora bringing the womans flesh closer to her lips.
Nora quickly sunk her fangs into the woman. The human flinched for half a second but made no sound or move otherwise. Nora bit into the woman again tearing at her flesh a bit opening the wound further. Greedily she slurped at her first meal as a vampire. The three elder vampires stood by watching her as she drank from the woman.
As the minutes passed Eric lowered the human to the ground carefully as Nora sunk to her knees continuing to drink. Godric knelt beside her breaking Noras grip on the woman. He pulled aside the humans long hair and exposed her neck. Nora wasted no time to sink her fangs into the womans neck. The color soon drained from her face as Nora drank. Godric soon pulled her away from the human as she lay dead on the ground.
"You must stop before the heart stops. We drink from the living not the dead." He stated. Nora held his gaze and nodded her head.
"Yes Godric." She replied sweetly.
"Go with Kyrie and she will wash you up." He said. Nora nodded again and stood greeting Kyrie with a smile. She took her outstretched hand and was led away.
"Turn back now if you know what's good for the lot of ya'." The man approached them waving his hand as if to shoo them away. Godric held up his hand to his progenys. Nora hid behind Kyrie and Eric as Godric walked closer to the man.
"Has the plague reached this place as well?" He asked sounding somewhat exasperated.
"Out of my way boy, I'll talk with your father there." He stated shoving Godric out of his way. Godric grabbed onto the mans wrist tightly drawing his attention towards him. The man froze as he was caught in the vampires stare.
"Your business is with me. Now, is this village plague stricken?" Godric asked hypnotically. The man swallowed hard.
"Yes it is." He answered obediently.
"Is there any village in this area that is not?" He asked almost hopefully.
"Not with in miles. This is one of the last ones with any people left in it and most of them don't have another day left." The human stated. Godric sniffed the air around the man.
"He is ill as well?" Kyrie asked her maker. Godric gave a slight nod still holding the mans gaze.
"Very well then." Godric said with a sigh. "Go about your business and forget you saw us." He released his grip on the man and watched as he wandered off.
"Mother I'm hungry." Nora whimpered from behind her. Kyrie turned and gathered the girl up in her arms resting her head against her chest.
"I know my dear. We all are." She said turning to Godric.
"I suppose we can simply take a walk through to see if there is anyone not ill." Godric said.
"What is the point Godric?" Eric all but demanded his maker. Godric cast an eye at him. "We have been traveling for months now and everywhere is ridden with plague. We haven't fed in weeks, what's the point in searching when we know what we will find."
In a flash of movement Godric was standing in front of Eric. "The point Eric is to leave no stone unturned." He stated calmly. Eric attempted to match gazes with the elder vampire for a few seconds before looking down towards the ground. "Now, we will break up and see if we can find anyone. Nora will go with you while Kyrie will accompany me."
Eric nodded his head in compliance before turning towards the females. Kyrie missed the brazen Viking king who had plagued them both with questions seemingly constantly. While they still could not fully control their progeny through the blood bond they shared he had developed a deep respect for the two vampires that seemed to stem from the nights they had been taken by the authority. After they had been released Eric no longer questioned Godrics way of doing things.
Eric took Nora by the hand leading her away towards the village. Godric offered his arm to Kyrie as if they were young lovers heading out for an afternoon stroll. With a gracious smile Kyrie accepted snaking her arm through her makers and grabbing onto his hand tightly.
The village was pitch black save for a few torches but most weren't lit. A sign to travelers to turn back. The plague had been in full force for months, nearly a year already. It showed no signs of slowing down. It seemed as if more than half of the humans they encountered were infected or dead.
The sickness took effect quickly and with in a day or so death would take the person violently. Godric and Kyrie had watched a person who was seemingly healthy the not before decline rapidly with two nights time. That was when they first suspected there would be a problem but neither had expected a full blown famine.
It was hard for all of them to focus as the weeks grew longer between meals. The two elder vampires often gave healthy prey to their progenys seeing as how they were older and able to control their hunger better. Even still there were nights that they fed off of each other just to curb their appetites a bit.
As they walked through the village the smell of death and sickness was heavy in the air. It wasn't the first night that Kyrie simply wanted to feed off of a dying person even though she knew it would do her no good only harm. Her stomach hurt and she felt weak. She held onto Godrics hand tightly for support.
"There is nothing here." She said softly.
"I know." Godric replied back just as quietly. They remained silent for some time before Godric came to a full halt.
"Godric, perhaps we should contact the authority." Kyrie suggested feeling her maker tense next to her. "I don't like the idea any more than you do but they maybe able to help us. We can not go on like this."
"The thought has crossed my mind more than once. I just do not want to be indebted to them twice." Godric let go of Kyries arm to hold her out to him at arms length. He searched her eyes and face before his gaze settled back again.
"Godric, our children will not survive." Kyrie said finally. Godric nodded his head a few times in contemplation.
"Right, you are right." He said taking Kyrie by the hand. "Let us find out progenys then and find a way to contact the authority."
"What do you think the odds are that they are copulating?" Kyrie asked with a small grin. Once Nora had recovered from her shyness around Eric the two had been in each others arms. It hadn't taken long after that for them to find the others bed.
"Considering they have not fed in a while either highly likely or not even a thought in their heads." He replied returning her grin.
"That is not an answer Godric. You have to answer with one or the other." She stated smiling. Godric stopped walking giving her a mock a glare.
"Oh? Since when do you give me commands Kyrie?" He asked playfully. Kyrie pulled her maker closer to her so their bodies touched.
"Always. You just don't ever listen." She said. Godric wrapped his arms around Kyries shoulder and rested her head against his. She sunk into him wrapping her arms around his middle. Godric stroked her hair resting his face against her head. Kyrie nuzzled against his neck reveling in their closeness.
"No matter how many progenys we make Kyrie you are my favorite child. You are solely mine, my first in so many different aspects. You are my Kyrie." He whispered lovingly to her.
"And you are my Godric." She whispered back. She tightened her arms around him kissing under his chin.
"Sorry to interrupt but there is no one here left to feed on." Erics voice sounded. The couple turned their heads towards their progenys.
"Yes I know Eric. Kyrie and I have decided that our best course of action will be to contact the vampire authority given our dire situation." Godric replied.
"The authority? We spent over a century attempting to put as much distance between us as possible and now you want to run to them?" Eric shouted out in astonishment.
"We are not running to them, we are seeking assistance." Godric replied calmly.
"You both have taught me that survival is everything. This is retreat not survival." He replied angrily pointing a finger for emphasis.
"Eric you're wrong. This is survival. Out here we can not live off the land. We must seek out our people in order to ensure our survival." Kyrie intervened. Eric let out a low growl of irritation. "Listen to me a a vic; we are weak. In our current states we could not escape if we were threatened or pursued. Do you understand? If we continue we will meet the true death one way or another. Nora first, then you, myself and lastly Godric."
Eric stared at her for a time before looking back at Nora then finally Godric. "Let's go a vic. There is no sense in staying here any longer." Kyrie stated. He nodded walking along side Godric as the males led and they two females followed.
"Mama, what is the vampire authority?" Nora asked curiously.
"Oh, inion I wish I really knew."
