Kyrie found a cave. The mouth was deep enough to lead straight underground enveloping her in darkness. She huddled into a corner bringing her knees up to her chest. She wound her arms around them tightly placing her head down against them still sobbing.
The tears had long since stopped yet still her body was wracked by sobbing. Greedily she sucked air into her lungs that she didn't need in an attempt to calm herself down. It was to no avail. Her thoughts turned in her head quickly all ending in the same thought, she was alone.
She had never been alone for very long before, Godric saw to that. Now he expected her to stay on the continent while he ran to another, separated by an entire ocean. What of the other vampires going with him, would he go about eternity with them as he had promised her.
Kyrie shook her head violently. He had told her over the centuries countless times he should release her, he had to release her but a bat of an eyelash was all it took for him to still again for a while. "My fault, all of this is my fault."
Her progenys were gone, Eric was more than likely just as hurt as she was by her words as she was by Godrics. She should have kept her mouth closed and her tongue to herself. Eric would have stayed faithfully by her side, he loved her as his everything.
Godrics words and Nora's actions had blinded her momentarily to that fact. Kyrie felt sleep begin to claim her, the sun was rising. She didn't feel like fighting it. She continued to sob wondering what she should do, go after Eric or let him be. It would be in his best interest to go out into the world on his own.
It wasn't as if he were a baby vampire anymore and she knew from the centuries together he was much more clever than she could ever hope to be, more worldly despite their age gap. She laid down on her back staring up at the cavernous ceiling and closed her eyes.
The following night she contemplated finding Eric, the thought was there however the motivation was severely lacking. She remained still turning on her side only once through out the night. She made small circles in the dirt with her fingers rubbing at the stray tears that fell.
After a few nights in the cave, laying in the same spot, she decided to explore a bit. She walked slowly deeper into the depths finding herself at a fork taking a left. In the distance she heard water and the ground became slippery the further in she went.
The heart of the cave was where she found herself. The room was lit by tiny insects that stuck to the walls and ceiling glowing a dull green, together illuminating it brightly. Their light shimmered off the pool of water that fell in cascades from a water fall. It was certainly beautiful.
Kyrie walked over to the waters edge falling to her knees her hands dipped into the water, it was warm. She had never felt water so naturally warm before with out first heating it over a fire. With out another thought she stripped her skirts and bodice off sinking into the water. She submerged herself completely feeling her stress ease somewhat.
She scrubbed at her face as she emerged just enough for her eyes to peer out from the surface. She ran her fingers through her hair until the knots were gone allowing it to trail after her as she began to swim. She traced the edge of the pool swimming back to where her clothes were.
She laid on her back in the water staring up at the glow that almost resembled stars and let out a long sigh. The weight lessened further and she climbed out. She dipped her skirt into the water scrubbing at it to get the dirt out following suit with her top. Once she was satisfied she walked back out with her garments to where she had been sleeping.
Kyrie placed her clothes down carefully on a part of the wall that jutted out to keep them off the ground and walked out into the night. The breeze on her naked flesh was chilling but all the same refreshing compared to the humidity of the cave. She gathered up dry branches and grass searching for flint, Godric had hers.
When that quest proved to be futile she walked back into the cave arranging her materials on the ground. She placed some dry grass down grabbing a couple of sticks. She rubbed them together quickly over the dry grass with in seconds causing enough friction to create some smoke. She knelt down closer blowing at it getting small sparks.
She fed seem more dry grass in it creating a small fire. She picked it up carefully placing it down on her dry sticks. Soon it crackled a bit more, enough to dry her clothing as well as her hair. She ran her hands down her hair once it had dried enough.
Her fingers deftly began to plait it, braiding it here and there bringing them together tightly. The entire time she had been with Godric she had never fixed her hair, she knew how...her mother had taught her. Once her sisters had been born she had done their hair as well. Her fingers stiffened at the thought.
Her mother would sitwith her in a rocker chair by the fire in her parents bed chamber. A large quilt over their laps to keep out the chill as her mother hummed a melody to her and brushed at her hair. She had had a small doll that her elder brother had made for her as a baby. Its hair was made from bits of yarn that she would braid as her mother fixed hers.
Kyrie allowed her hands to collapse in her lap as she finished her task feeling the tightness against her skull where she had pulled. What had become of them? Not just her family but her entire clan, what had become of them all. Obviously the people she knew were dead for over a thousand years but did their ancestors survive? Did they live in the same place as she had grown up in, did the children listen to the same stories and how many new ones were there?
Her curiosity got the best of her in the end as she decided to go home. She knew she would be able to find it eventually, it would take her a very long time but what else did she have now? It would keep her mind preoccupied and maybe she would find a place free of plague where she could feed, perhaps meet others such as herself.
The next night she dressed herself and set out into the darkness. Her melancholy still hung around her but the prospect of finding out what had become of her clan was exciting all the same. She glanced up at the trees finding her way to the path easily. She closed her eyes tightly to listen. Her instincts would tell her which way to go.
She turned on her heel to start out startled somewhat at the figure that stood in the distance. It wasn't much taller than her. Its features were cloaked by night. Her heart would have skipped beats if it could have. Was it...Godric?
She took a few tentative steps forward causing the other to startle and break into a run, it wasn't Godric. "Hey, wait now you!" Kyrie yelled out. She heard sobbing as the other stumbled and fell. A woman.
Kyrie approached her slowly already knowing she was a vampire, a baby vampire. "Are you alright?" She asked gently. The other female shook her head quickly sobbing.
"I dont, I don't know. I, I woke up in the ground." She sobbed out covering her face with her hands. Kyrie scanned the area feeling for any other vampires, there were none.
"Did you just awake?" She asked. The woman nodded briskly.
"Yes! Last night I was attacked, who ever found me must have taken me for dead!" She shouted near hysteria. Kyrie placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You are dead. What attacked you was a vampire. It drained your blood and turned you." Kyrie stated not wanting to alarm the woman but felt she needed to know her situation. She shook her head slowly disbelieving. Her eyes were wary as she took in the strange girl.
"That's absurd." She whispered out. Kyrie smirked at her.
"Whether you believe me or not it does not matter however the fact remains." She replied standing.
"And you know this, why?" The woman asked. Kyrie knew that words would never sway the woman. She descended her fangs causing the woman to gasp. She began to back away when her own dropped in response to the elder before her. She brought a startled hand to her mouth crying out sharply.
"I know that it is frightening, I do. Please, let me help you...teach you to survive as a vampire." Kyrie said. "I am Kyrie."
She brought her hand out offering it to the other. The woman accepted it standing slowly. "I am Lorena, Lorena Krasiki."
