Kyrie ran the dark red lipstick over her lips watching as the color transferred to her flesh. She blotted it slightly with a kerchief before beginning to take the pins out of her hair. It was the shortest it had ever been and was rather boyish however it was in fashion. She had come to know from her time with Eric that she was expected to keep up with whatever the humans had decided would look best on them.

Kyrie stood up grabbing at the heavy sting of pearls that laid on her vanity table and wound them around her neck a couple of times creating a choker before letting them hang down her chest. She smoothed out the short black fringed dress that she wore and backed up slowly in her heels to get a better look at her outfit in the floor length mirror.

"This looks ridiculous." She stated to herself.

"Nonsense Kyrie. You could never look ridiculous." Godric said from his place on the bed. Kyrie glanced back at him smirking slightly.

"You have made me look ridiculous quite a few times." She quipped at him.

"Not in more than two hundred years or so." He stated standing up. Godric walked over to her wrapped his arms around her middle. He placed his head against her shoulder to meet her gaze in the mirror. "I know how much you dislike public appearances Kyrie. I don't favor them either however we must."

"I know Godric and I understand. I just wish that things were still the way they had been." She said taking a deep breath before releasing an even deeper sigh.

"As do I. Perhaps it was for the best though. With how the world is now I doubt we would have been able to hide the way we used to." Godric replied.

"It doesn't matter." Kyrie said turning around to face him. She wrapped her arms around his neck. "As long as we are together and our children are safe then I am happy."

Godric smiled at her widely nodding his head once in agreement.

Isabella met them in the front hallway dressed much the same as Kyrie. The car took them to the party they were attending. It was, of course, put on by the authority. They didn't put on bad parties, they were always elaborate and moderately enjoyable, however Kyrie still didn't like the idea of having so many important figure heads in one place. It left her feeling uneasy.

The killer from San Francisco had never been caught, if in fact it had ever just been a rogue killer. She knew a lot of miles separated the two states but that wouldn't matter if it had in fact been the authority killing off its own members for whatever agenda they had. Kyrie glanced over at Godric as they entered the large hall.

Tobacco smoke hung heavily in the air as did the heady smell of blood that was being served as well as some alcohol. Kyrie glanced around her taking in her surroundings. The hall was nearly packed full. It was hard to pick out anyone in particular however she could sense it.

"There are humans here?" She wondered aloud. Godric gave a nod.

"It would appear that way." He stated.

"That is odd." Isabella said more to herself. "What would humans be doing here?"

"I haven't the slightest idea." Godric replied. "It doesn't concern us either way. Lets keep it that way." Both females nodded. "Now Isabella, go and mingle." Kyrie watched as the younger vampire disappeared into the crowd.

It didn't take long for some acquaintances to find them and begin chatting. Godric and Kyrie smiled politely and contributed to the conversation even though each could sense the others discomfort.

"Can you believe they allowed humans into this shindig." LuAnne stated. "What were they thinking?"

"The authority does as it pleases. Who are we to argue?" Kyrie replied taking a sip from her wine glass.

"It would seem that way. Well, personally, I am hoping that they are here for their blood and that nothing else." The other female said with a smile. Kyrie forced her own and tugged on Godrics arm.

"It would seem I am being pulled away. Excuse us." He stated politely before disappearing back into the crowd with his progeny.

"I need some air." Kyrie said searching for the exit.

"That sounds fantastic right about now. I don't know how much longer I could stand there and listen to that political prattle." He replied.

"Oh but Godric, you are right in the middle of all vampire politics. Aren't you the lucky one, yeah?" Kyrie teased. Godric cast a sideways glance to her and frowned.

"That's not funny Kyrie." He stated good-naturedly. She shrugged in response. The two made their way to a side door and were about to exit when the microphone on the podium screamed to life with a terrible screech.

"My apologies friends." An old familiar voice said. Kyrie's head shot over in the direction it was coming from.

"It's Roman. Remember him?" Godric asked sarcastically.

"But of course I do. How could I ever forget?" She questioned back flatly.

"Come along Kyrie. Let's see how much hot air that windbag can dispel." Godric said pulling her back into the center of the room. She groaned audibly losing sight of the door.

"I am so glad to see so many of you were able to attend on such short notice." Roman began. "While I promise to make this as brief as possible to avoid interrupting the festivities it is of importance."

"Does he think he's clever?" Kyrie whispered under her breath. Godric nudged her in the side with his elbow.

"It has come to my attention that there are many of you who have forgotten, or have never known, the art of discretion. There have been many reports in the papers here in Dallas about vampiral sightings. Now, while many humans may think that that's simply a story made up by the press there are a few whom have decided to dig into this." Roman said. He turned towards his left and gave a slight nod.

Two human men were brought on the small stage next to him. They were bound with rope and blind folded. Many of the vampires attending allowed their fangs to descend and let out small hungry noises. Godric shook his head slightly from side to side as if he were displeased.

"These two men have seen many of you and I have the pictures to prove it. These pictures include; feedings taking place in public areas, some of you have been caught in flight...these are just a couple of examples. This problem will be taken care of tonight. It is not simply enough to dispose of the humans who may reveal us but also the careless who have been caught." Roman sounded as if he were disciplining unruly children. "You were all given invitations to this event. All of those with a blue colored invitation please come forward."

A small group began to form in front of where Roman stood at his podium. Kyrie looked down the line of vampires, they were relatively young, and caught LuAnnes gaze as she made her way to stand with the others. "I'm going to take this time to introduce our new magistrate."

The male had been standing next to Roman the entire time. He was rather short and unassuming to those who didn't know any better. He was an older vampire but not as old as Roman or Godric. "All of you who are lined up here are going to learn a lesson tonight. A very valuable lesson that neither one of you will forget. Descend your fangs." The magistrate said.

He walked to the first in line carrying a large leather bag that was slung over his shoulder. "On your knees." The magistrate commanded. The younger vampire obeyed. He took out a pair of pliars from his bag and set to work extracting out the fangs. Kyrie watched wide eyed in shock over it. The room was silent. The only sound came from behind Roman where the two humans breathed.

The younger vampire finally let out a howl as his fang gave way and tugged out. The second one came out easier. The magistrate threw it at him and moved on to the next person in line. He made his way down the line stopping at LuAnne and smirked. "For you my dear we have a special arrangement."

"And why is that?" She asked nervously trying to mask it.

"Because you are the one who tipped the humans off in the first place. Now there is no use denying it so spare me that much. My only question is why? Why would you attempt to force our kind out of the dark and into the light?" He asked as if coaxing it out of her. LuAnne remained silent. Her face twisted from rage to panic and back again. "It's funny isn't it? One of the most vocal vampires I have ever met, that you are my dear, about how terrible the humans are and how disgusting they can be but it was all just an act."

"We need to assimilate with society!" She shouted out suddenly. "I'm not the only one who believes this, there are others."

"And they will be brought to justice as well." The magistrate replied.

"If we continue to hide then we are truly damned." LuAnne spat back.

"My dear lady, we already are." He said. It happened quickly. The magistrate reached into his bag and pulled out a wooden stake. In an instant he plunged it into her heart. LuAnne looked down at it for half a second placing her hands on it as if trying to come to terms that it was in fact lodged in her chest. She let out a scream before bursting into viscera and was nothing more than a putrid puddle on the floor.

Kyrie jumped when she popped, and she did pop, out of existence. She trembled and took deep breaths. She could feel tears pin prick at her eyes but held back the bloody drops. She had to save face, if not for herself then for Godric.

"Let that be a lesson to all of you in attendance tonight. The authority will not tolerate any disorderly conduct. Discipline will take place. Now please continue on with the party." Roman said his voice booming through out the hall.

Voices began again as if nothing of consequence had happened. They ignored the vampires who had been defanged and carried on with normalcy as they had been doing before. Kyrie held onto her maker tightly staring at the puddle that was LuAnne.

"Come along Kyrie. Let's get that fresh air." Godric said tugging her along with him. Once outside Kyrie let out a ragged breath. "Are you alright?"

"Godric...I...that was..." She stammered.

"Barbaric." He stated. Kyrie nodded her head once in agreement.

"We've done things Godric, terrible things, but that...what the hell was that?" Kyrie demanded.

"A warning. To all of us." He replied. "The authority is not to be challenged, not now or ever."

"You knew all along." She said softly. "That was why, you chased me away."

"Yes my Kyrie, yes." He agreed gently. Godric wrapped his arms around her tightly kissing at her forehead lightly.

"I want to go home." Kyrie said suddenly feeling tired even though the night was nowhere near breaking into day.

"Then that is where we shall go."

Kyrie didn't mind it when she was upset because she knew that Godric would always make her feel better in some way. That night was no exception. Isabella stayed at the party leaving the two alone. It was the first time they had been alone in a long time. Kyrie didn't mind Isabella, she liked her company and understood why Godric had taken her in. It was much the situation that Kyrie had thought she was in with Lorena.

Isabella however really did not have a maker. She had been made, possibly on accident, and abandoned to perish or fight for her survival. Godric had found her and took her in as an underling. Kyrie grasped at Godrics shoulders as he pushed her past the door frame and into the sitting room. Small kisses were exchanged as hands roamed freely.

Kyrie let out small giggles as Godric moaned slightly at their contact. He unzipped her dress in the back and held her out slightly away from him. He tugged on the fabric until it was down around her middle. Slowly he moved down kissing her flesh as he did so until the dress was on the floor.

She ran her fingers through his hair and smirked down at him. He stood back up grasping at her legs and rear. Kyrie wrapped her legs around him as he held her weight.

"To the bedroom then, yeah?" She asked breathless under his kisses.

"No. Here, now." He whispered his voice heavy with lust. Godric carried her over to the sofa and placed her down gently on it. He made quick work of his shirt and pants. Kyrie began taking off the heels but Godric stopped her. "No leave them on. I like them on you."

"Oh do you now?" She asked amused. Godric nodded emphatically.

"Oh yes." He replied. Godric grasped her to him wrapping his arms around her body as he entered her. Kyrie let out a small moan that grew louder as he began to move faster inside of her. Her surroundings dimmed out from her peripheral vision. All she could see was Godric all around her. His beautiful blue eyes were locked onto hers as he moaned out her name and captured her lips with each thrust he gave.

Suddenly the world became vibrant around her and her senses heightened. She screamed out his name and moaned even louder than before as he picked up his speed before tilting his head back slightly and letting out his own loud moans laced with her name. Godric laid his head against her chest as she ran her fingers through his hair and kissed the top of his head.

"Feeling better?" He asked her.

"Yes. You?" She quipped back.

"I'm spent." Godric stated sleepily.

"That's just your old age catching up with you." Kyrie said.

"You shouldn't talk. You're only a few hundred years behind me." He replied giving a tired grin.

"Go on with you boy." She said pinching his arm slightly.

"Ouch." He replied. Quickly he sat up and straddled her. He began pinching and tickling her. Kyrie laughed and shouted trying to buck him off but knew it was no use. He was her maker, her sole maker, she would never be as strong as he was which was perfectly fine by her. She knew that that would ensure that he would protect her.
