She was waking up for the fifth time that night. Weeks had passed but the nightmares only got worse. It was unbearable. Every time she woke up she had to rush to the bathroom to throw up. It was eating her from inside.
Sunday. It was full moon and 4:07 a.m. Haru was up for the third time that night when she felt a cold metal stop right in front of her neck.
"Oh. It's you." As soon as he saw her he put down his tonfa and relaxed.
"What are you doing here?" She asked in a soft drowsy voice.
"I heard noises. Why are you up?" And right after he asked that question he knew he shouldn't have.
She had changed. She looked tired and bitter and the light in her eyes was nowhere to be seen. It broke his heart to see her like that, and this was a new feeling for him. He just didn't know hearts could break like that. Hibari spent the rest of the night in silence with her, caressing her back and holding her hair while she threw up.
"You get used to it." He said. Killing people, he meant. I mean, come on. He had to be used to it.
"I know." She gave him a weak smile.
And he smiled back. It was the least he could do, right? Well, it sent her heart beat racing and she had no idea why.
The following night, Miura Haru only had one nightmare, and the night after that, they were already gone. It was raining and she was feeling well enough to just stare at her ceiling for hours with out fear of her mind playing dirty tricks on her. It was all because of him.
"You should call her." Tsuna had given her a business card that morning during breakfast. "She works miracles."
"Tsuna-san… this is…?" The brunette examined the card thoroughly.
"It's the number to my therapist. She's really good. You don't have to make that face… Do you think I'd give you something weird?"
"To be honest… I thought this was the number of a strip club or something…"
"Yeah… That's because she calls her office 'Afrodite's Palace'… People get the wrong impression."
But despite the weird names, he was right. She did work miracles and in less than a day, Haru was free from nightmares and invaded by a completely different types of thoughts. She had one simple mind task. Think of the most important things in her life. Think of that person she would take a bullet for, the one she thought of first thing in the morning and every time she read the word 'he' out of context. The one person that made her life worth living. This was being a problem of it's own, you know? Because despite that there were many people who fit that description, only one came to mind.
Yeah, you guessed it.
Why she couldn't get the cloud guardian's face out of her head? She didn't know. She thought about him often, like when she walked around and saw something and thought he might like it, or when at random times of the day she did little things and wished he was there to see it, no matter how insignificant it was. But now she was in her bed at two in the morning, thinking about that one time she saw a trace of a smile in his face. With that thought she fell asleep, and she slept like a baby for the rest of the night.

Before anyone saw it coming, summer came. And what do a bunch of grown ass men who kill for a living do in summer? Mother. Fucking. Beach house.
They had it all. Huge mansion next to the sea in their private beach that they shared with some allied families (Varia not included after summer of 2006. We do not talk about summer of 2006). They did all sorts of activities, such as smashing watermelon, or Mukuro's head, which ever you find first. Then there were swimming competitions and fireworks and tests of courage inside weird looking caves. They also did occasional reenacting of memorable scenes from Game of Thrones and, in the hottest day, an inhuman competition to see who could eat more Cocido Madrileño. No man was allowed to skip this fun family activity. Just like every year, Hibari fought against this horrid trip to the sea, but just like every year, he was tied up and forced to tag along. Deep down, everybody knew he would have ended up going anyways, but he would never admit that he would willingly participate in that human mess, so everybody else just rolled with it.
"Hibari, could you please, for once in your life, cooperate?" Gokudera let out an exasperated sigh after chasing the other man around the house for two hours, trying to get him into a swim suit with no avail.
"Kufufufu… Maybe he's self conscious about his body." Every year Mukuro tried to out-best himself at being the most annoying family member. This year he had decided to wear a smoking hot female body during the entire vacation, just because he could.
Meanwhile, Haru glared at him from a distance. If looks could kill. Were those boobs really necessary!? There she was, avoiding her new sexy black bikini because to cope with the trauma of murder he had been eating non-stop, and we all know what happens when you eat your feelings.
Everybody was running around, screaming and being themselves, basically. It's that energy that comes out of nowhere when you go to the beach with a large group of people. Although there were two people who were doing a very good job at avoiding all of that adrenaline.
"Why are you sitting here all alone?" Hibari took a seat next to Haru, who was in a far corner of the sand, under the shadow of a palm tree, calmly reading Carrie, by Stephen King, for the eleventh time.
"I'm a monster." She lowered her head, hiding her face behind her hair.
The skylark stared at her bare back. How could she say that? He was the real monster in this place and she was a beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world, too pure. She was a vision under the mid day sun. It was so tough to hear her talk about herself like that. He patted her head. Her hair was softer than ever. She had changed her shampoo and this new unfamiliar aroma was invading all of his senses. As soon as his hand came in touch with her hair, the girl got up and slapped her stomach.
"Look at me! This is what ice cream does to people! It jiggles! I'm a beast!"
Oh. Ok. Fine. She deserved to be bitten to death this he was worrying so much and all she was concerned about was being fat! Hibari glared at her for the first time in months.
"Shut up, woman. You look beautiful just as you are."
The words left his mouth with out him realizing, and unsure of how to cope with what he had just said, all the man could do was look away and hope she hadn't heard him. But she did hear him, and now she was paralyzed. His words of courage meant the world to her, but this was going one step further. She just couldn't process it. She couldn't comprehend why he had said that, or why her heart was beating so fast after that.
That had been strike one.
"Hibari-san…" She tried desperately to change the subject. "W-why are you wearing a suit?"
"This is my swim- suit."
He said it with such a dead pan expression it took the girl a while to understand what had just happened there. Did he… did he just make a joke…? That was strike two for Miura Haru.
She got up, struggling to find the right way to move her legs, and walked to where Kyoko and Tsuna were sunbathing.
"Something's wrong with me." She said.
"And you only notice now?" Gokudera mocked her. He was sitting next to Tsuna and playing Iron Maiden full blast.
"Yes. I've been too busy thinking about all the things that are wrong with you." She barked back and rolled her eyes to the back of her head.
"Haru, what is it?" The young boss tried to stop them from getting into one of their never ending fights.
"Hibari-san just made a joke."

Ok. First thing's first.
Hi.
I know, I know, my last update was January 2013, but that's exactly the point. I mean, WOW.
I can't believe I'm actually doing this, you know? Things happen, time passes, so do fandoms, and that's that. But one day I woke up and someone had left a review on this fic asking me to continue. It was super sweet, but you know, people leave reviews like this all the time on fics that are just never gonna be finished. This one was one of those. I hit a wall and I just gave up. But lately I've kept on thinking about it, and last night I even read all I have uploaded here, so this morning I just went like ' you know what? fuck it. Im gonna do it'.
And here I am.
Not gonna lie, I have to re-watch the anime to refresh my memory on how to write these characters, and I have no idea how I'm going to finish this. But I'm going to do it. You have my word.
It's been two fucking years, man… Is there even still people in this fandom? You know what? I don't care. I'm gonna finish this anyway. KHR is too important to me idk even if there's no one around to read this im gonna keep writing for the hell of it.
So yeah. If you're actually reading this shit, I'm sorry for the long wait.
See you next chapter that I will probably upload next week after I'm done with my finals~
Bye-bye!
