AN: Yaaayyyy, new chapter! I just want to thank everyone for coming this far with me. Don't worry, this ain't the last one, believe me, you'll know when it is, but I want to say thank you. It's easy to become disconnected with my readers, as I have been with the past few chapters with not adding a little Author's Note at the beginning. That's kinda because I've been kinda busy, I'd type up the chapter, save it on fanfiction and then have to get off really quickly, leaving not much time to type up an AN. But not today. I hope you like this chapter, I think I've managed to make Deadpool seem a little less OOC, I've kinda felt that I've made him too soft with this story, BUT NO MORE!

Please leave a review with what you think, it always makes my day, whether it's filled with love or hate, 'cause then I know where I'm going right or wrong! Also I've been uploading a load of art over on my Deviant Art account, so you can go check that out by clicking the link in my profile! As always, enjoy the chapter!

Chapter twenty-six

The air was cold and snow blanketed every part of the ground, every branch of every tree, showing no signs of disturbance or life. The air was still, no wind, no sound, nothing. It seemed that any wildlife had long since fled whatever horrors had been conducted here.

The silence broke as boots crunched through the crisp snow. They were missing one from their roster. Bruce Banner had stayed behind on the Quinjet, deciding only to be called in if the Avengers knew this was a "code green" situation. Deadpool found that even with the movement of the six superheroes and the two dragons, it wasn't enough.

"Aw shame, I thought there would be a welcoming party for us." Deadpool said. It was true. The Avengers ad Wolverine had fully expected to have had a full scale army and soldiers waiting for them when they arrived. The lack of which was disturbing. "Now I don't get to shoot anything." He said.

But no matter. They had prepared for even this.

Drakki put her nose to the air and sniffed, her bright blue marks glowing bright against the white background and her dark skin. She sneezed, having just inhaled a snow flake. Deadpool laughed at her, trying to find a way to relieve the grim atmosphere that had settled over the superheroes in the past few days. Drakki glared at Deadpool, and swept her tail in his direction. He ended up sprawled on the ground. He lifted his face from the snow, ready to tease Drakki some more, but Hissing Soul let out a menacing hiss that echoed through the air. Her mouth was open, exposing row after row of teeth, she was a nightmare made flesh. She sent Drakki a glare. Drakki moaned slightly in an apologetic way. This was not the time for fun and games. So Deadpool picked himself up without saying much more.

The Avengers, Wolverine, Deadpool and the two dragons reached a menacing looking door, made of steel that had to be at least five inches thick. It protruded from a mountain side. This was the only way in or out. There was no lock or any sign of a key pad. It had to be opened from the inside.

"I can try to hack into the facility's security system and try and find a back door to open-" Iron Man started, the images of possible routes through the main frame flashing up on the display inside his helmet. However, before he could say any more, Deadpool cut him off.

"No need, we can just blow it up. I have more than enough explosives. Plus, I just love watching things go boom." He said. Deadpool grabbed every grenade bomb and dynamite he had on him. He out it all in a neat little pile at the base of the steel door and ran back a few steps.

"Where did you get the dynamite?" Black Widow asked him.

"I knew a guy, who knew a guy, who sold dynamite. I killed him and took all of his explosives. I knew that they'd come in handy one day." Deadpool explained rather rapidly. "You might want to stand back a little," He shouted to the Avengers and Wolverine as he ran past them. Drakki sniffed at the pile of explosives and barked in surprise, she whipped around and ran to where Deadpool had placed himself. Hiss slithered through the snow, leaving a trail that looked like a rather large snake had passed by. As the superheroes settled down beside him with bemused looks on their faces, Deadpool pulled out one more grenade. He pulled out the pin. "Now don't forget to put your fingers in your ears because I find – "

"Just throw the god damned grenade!" Wolverine yelled at him.

"Oh, yeah," Deadpool threw the grenade and it landed on top of the pile of explosives. He put his finger in his ears as the boom it made was quite impressive. "I know right?" Deadpool said to no one in particular.

When the smoke and the dust cleared, a large majority of the door had been blown away, along with part of the mountain side. The darkness of the facility beckoned gravely, causing dark memories long since forgotten to rise up in Deadpool's mind. Ink was in there somewhere. Deadpool might have been fooling the Avengers and Wolverine with his demeanour, but he wasn't fooling himself.

"Well what are we waiting for?" Deadpool asked. The door was practically gone and there were no guards and no kind of defensive measures had been deployed. Deadpool could waltz right in and grab Ink.

"It could be a trap." Thor said.

Deadpool ignored him and took a step forward.

The air exploded with the sound of gunfire. Masked and armoured soldiers armed with various weapons crowded through the gaping hole in the mountain side. They opened fire on the superheroes, aiming to hurt or to kill or not really aiming at all. Here were the armed soldiers the Avengers, Wolverine and Deadpool has been expecting.

"And it also fills the expectation of generic bad guys all superhero stories have!" Deadpool remarked. The superheroes had already launched into action. Iron Man flew up and blasted the soldiers with his repulsor rays, scattering the ranks and generally causing chaos to the small army below. Captain America threw his iconic shield. It bounced off threes rocks and armed men, and yet somehow still came back to his hands. Black Widow kicked and punched various troopers, each time the hit was meant to put them down, and every time she succeeded. Hawkeye fired arrow after arrow, some were explosive, some sent flares out, and all found their mark. Thor summoned his lightning and swung with his hammer, sending the soldiers into a frenzy as so many of them were knocked out. Wolverine had unleashed himself upon the battalion, slicing, slashing and stabbing with his claws. Blood sprayed and stained the snow red.

The two dragons fought equally well, letting themselves loose on the soldiers. Fire balls exploded and jagged spikes impaled themselves into the armed men. Deadpool had to admit, those two dragons were a couple of killing machines when they put their minds to it. Drakki launched herself into the air, dive bombing the men and releasing blue fire balls that exploded, sending troopers high into the sky. She also picked a few up as she soared by and then dropped them when she had flown high enough. Hissing Soul, however, tunnelled underground. Suddenly disappearing into a deep dark hole in the ground and then appearing from underneath the rank's feet. Every so often a tunnel of hers would collapse, sending men falling down into a pit from where she could pick them off one by one. Each time, the men would scream in horror as she rotated her six rows of teeth and shot rings of fire.

So Deadpool drew his favourite guns, already loaded with ammunition, and launched himself into the fight, knowing full well that this small army had no chance of stopping him.

I didn't know how long Lady Sif and the Warriors Three had been gone. It could have been hours, it could have been minutes; I didn't particularly care. It could have even been mere seconds and I wouldn't have noticed. All I was focused on was the two Frost Giants in front of me. They were still squaring off to fight each other to the death. I would never be able to tear myself away from this moment, and with either way this battle would end, I would have the memory of it seared in my brain for all the years to come.

Drafilie shifted his spear, his face shining in the gloom. Scars twisted around his face, grim and grave. He was ready to fight, but his stance was sloppy, careless. He knew he was going to win this fight, so why bother to even try?

Tritan was tense, his face impassive and cold. He had bent into a slight crouch and he held no weapon. I didn't like how distant his face had become, shut off from the rest of the world around him and focused only on the Jotun before him. I couldn't tell what he was about to do, which was exactly what he was going for, but I also felt slightly hurt. I didn't know the Jotun standing in front of me anymore.

Quick as lightning, Drafilie struck, but Tritan had already leaped away. He landed close to his chained Ice Beast, he ran to tug at the chain that secured the beast to the ground. Windcutter pulled against it, his great muscles tensing, but the chain would not budge. I knew what Tritan wanted to do. He had to take this fight to the sky, where he would have the advantage.

I let my magic surge, although I was not trained properly I knew enough to send and arch of blue electricity over to the chain. My magic buzzed and sizzled with power as it arched from my hands and over the heads of the Frost Giants. The bolt of electricity hit the chain and was melted instantly. Tritan scrabbled to be a top of his Sky Chaser, sending me a thankful look, but I had already doubled over in a sudden pain that had seized my body. I had never used magic in my Jotun body before and for some reason it was utterly repulsed by it. Light blared brightly for a second, and then it faded and along with it faded the pain. However, I was left with an ache that had settled into my muscles. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had seen Jotuns wield magic before...

Windcutter roared and launched himself into the sky. Drafilie growled at the shrinking silhouette of the Ice Beast and Tritan, shadowed by the fading light of the setting sun. He mounted his own Ice Beast, slicing the ice chain with his spear head easily.

Bonecrusher moaned ever so slightly and looked longingly in my direction. He took a step forward as if to help me, as he was now free from his bonds, but Drafilie had already seated himself between Bonecrusher's two great shoulder blades. He rushed Bonecrusher into the sky without even looking at me. Unable to resist, and with the reminder of what would happen if he stepped out of line again written all over his face, scaring his eye forever, Bonecrusher flew upwards, ready to battle with his counterpart, Windcutter.

Now high up in the dark grey sky, I could barely make out what was going on. I could hardly see the fight between the two Frost Giants. The two Ice Beasts hesitated before striking each other each time, their blows carefully aimed so not to create permanent damage to each other, but also acting like they wanted nothing more than to tear each other's throats out.

However, the same could not be said for Drafilie and Tritan. Drafilie struck each time with his spear without conscious or mercy, inflicting as much damage as he could on his now disowned son. Tritan fought similarly, swiping at his father with an axe or a mace, I couldn't quite tell in the quickly dimming light.

Several times I saw Tritan get hit. I gasped and hissed each time.

I wanted to be up there with Tritan. I needed to be up there with him. After all we had been through together. I could barely watch as Bonecrusher's hide was quickly drenched in bright blue blood both his own and Windcutter's. Bonecrusher... He was more my Ice Best then he ever had been to Drafilie. I cared for, I loved, the Sky Chaser, the Frost Giant and his own beast too much to stand and watch. But I couldn't do anything. I was frozen on the spot, craning my neck up to look at a fight that I could barely see. I knew it was horrible for me to hope, but I wanted Drafilie to lose this fight to the death. He deserved it. After what he had done to Bonecrusher, what he was doing to Tritan, and what he had done to countless other Ice Beasts. Drafilie had to lose. He had to...

...Because I could not stand the consequences if he won.

The bullets in Deadpool twin machine guns had run out first, and then he had run out of ammunition for his hand guns, so he had switched to his two katanas, which were just as effective, and twice as gory. He slashed and stabbed at every soldier that came at him, mowing them down without mercy or a single thought. What did Deadpool care for them? Each time he killed one of them, he was one step closer to Ink.

Ink. She was so close. He knew he was going to find her and bring her back. Not only was it part of the grand plan Captain America had thought of but if any of the Avengers had challenged him... Deadpool wasn't sure what he would've done, but it would have ended with him coming out on top. Well he was going to now, but Wolverine was also coming with him; it kind of annoyed Deadpool that the Avengers didn't think that he could rescue Ink on his own, but he had to admit that Wolverine's tracking skills would come in handy. Maybe Deadpool could just ditch Wolverine at the first chance he could get.

With another sweep of his sword another man went down screaming. Deadpool looked up, finding himself in the opening of the mountainside. Behind him there was still chaos as the Avengers, Drakki and Hissing Soul fought the seemingly endless supply of soldiers. Not all of the blows that were dealt were lethal, but so many had already been killed and so much blood had already drenched the white snow red that it didn't really matter anymore.

Wolverine drew his claws from the masked soldier he had just plunged them into. He looked up at Deadpool, seeing him standing by the opening idly as complete and utter madness swept around him.

"Come on Logan-buddy, the doors are wide open and we have an Ink to find." Deadpool said. He turned around and began to sprint down the dark corridor. Not seeing a reason not to follow, Wolverine soon joined him. In the darkness of the hallway, the sounds of the fight faded quickly. The fight would obviously carry on for a while, but it was not major enough to call in for a "code green".

Deadpool and Wolverine ran down the unlit passage together, saying nothing until...

"Ink's been here recently." Wolverine remarked. "I thought I smelled it outside, but I couldn't tell. She managed to escape at some point."

"Are you meaning to tell me that she may not even be here?" Deadpool asked, gritting his teeth.

"No, she's definitely still here. They captured her again." Wolverine replied.

Deadpool was not reassured by this. In fact, it made him feel worse, knowing that she'd tried to escaped but failed. He wasn't sure whether he could keep it together when he found her, depending on what kind of state she was in.

Wolverine and Deadpool ran until they reached a junction, where one part of the passage way turned left and the other turned right.

"Which way?" Deadpool asked.

"That one," Wolverine pointed to the right turning with his claws. "That's where her scent is coming from."

"See ya!" Deadpool said and sprinted down the corridor that went right. "You can check the other way just in case!" He shouted over his shoulder.

Wolverine growled but turned down the left passageway. Yes, right was the way to find Ink, but this way did not smell right.

It smelt of death and decay.

Somehow Wolverine knew that this way would hold something far worse than a broken girl.
