It appeared in the middle of their new years' party, in a burst of light.
Everyone stopped what they were doing, and drew their weapons.
When the light faded, they relaxed and realized that it was only a book, navy blue in color.
Chiron approached it carefully, but absolutely nothing happened. He picked it up, and gasped, mouthing something over and over.
"Chiron?" Annabeth said anxiously.
He jumped and turned to her, still clutching the book.
The campers looked uneasily at each other. Something huge must have just happened for their trainer to react this way.
"Come here, child," he said to her. "Look at this. The title, the picture."
When she saw it, she froze. "Percy," she breathed. Everyone heard her through the silence.
"Just say the title, girl, and I'll decide if it's something to be excited about," said Clarisse crankily. Annabeth glared at her, and she glared right back.
Annabeth sighed at last, and said, "The title is The Son of Neptune. The cover art, depicts a black-haired teen, whom I am sure is Percy, crouching on a slab of ice, next to a glacier. On top of the glacier is a crumbling temple. Percy is holding up an eagle that's emitting lightning." By the end of this description, the farthest demigods had to strain to hear, her voice had gotten so low.
"Why is it called the son of Neptune, and not Poseidon? How do you know it's Percy, anyway?" asked the first person to recover.
Annabeth fixed her intense gaze on him, and he squirmed uncomfortably. "I'd know Percy anywhere. This is him. And the title will probably be explained in the book."
"The gods sent it to us for a reason, we should read it," said Chiron. "Why don't you start, Annabeth dear?" he added, and she opened the book to page one.
"Chapter one: Percy I," she started, but footsteps sounded before she could continue.
They all turned around, and saw the approaching figure. It was Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus and huntress of Artemis.
"Thalia!" Annabeth called, standing up from the bench.
"Hey Annabeth, what's going on? Lady Artemis sent me here, but she didn't say why." Thalia explained.
"We're reading a book about Percy," Grover summed up the events up to now.
"Oh, okay," said Thalia, a bit shocked. "So what are you waiting—" she stopped mid-sentence, staring at one of the three campers they had rescued that morning from the Grand Canyon.
"Thalia?" Annabeth ventured. This wasn't normal Thalia behavior.
"Jason?" Thalia choked. Her eyes were wide, and she was paler than usual.
Jason looked shocked. "ye-yes?" he stuttered.
"Oh gods it is you! She told me you were dead! Oh gods, oh gods, oh gods—"
"You know who I am?" Jason interrupted her. "Because if you do, I'd really appreciate knowing, myself."
"Of course I know who you are; you're my brother, Jason Grace, son of Zeus. You disappeared when you were two years old. I can't believe she told me you were dead!" she continued muttering darkly under her breath.
After a few minutes of confused chaos and everyone talking about the latest development, Chiron stamped his hoof for quiet.
When there was silence, he again asked Annabeth to read, and as there were no interruptions this time, she succeeded.
