What had I done? I asked myself as I see bodies strewn across the land around me. I killed people. Crystal was right, I am a monster. I didn't mean to do this, I had no idea what I was doing. I don't even know what I am. I felt a fresh wave of tears come up and my body began to shake. I want my brother. Elijah always knows what to do. I whined when I heard someone step into the area around me. It was Mikael come to kill me off wasn't it?
I saw Elijah walk out into the area. What would he think? Maybe it would have been better if he'd never came or I had gotten up and ran instead of just sitting there. Either way right now I'm shouting that I'd done this. He will hate me. Won't he?
"Brother?" He spoke, not even hesitating to claim me his brother again. Doesn't he know we're not related? Or did he need proof? I looked up at him and he walked over and handed me clothes. I took them and dressed myself.
"What am I? How many?"
"Six. You slaughtered six villagers brother." I was horrified. "You tore them apart as if they were nothing at all." He was speaking matter of factly, like he wasn't bothered by it. I stood, with his help.
"Lijah, what have I become?"
"You seem like the wolves of the woods. Cursed to turn when the moon is full." Father. I was a werewolf. Activated. Elijah pulled me into a hug and I returned his hug. "Listen to me. Father is beside himself with rage." Of course he is. That is just who Mikael was. But the others? "It seems this affliction can only be passed by a certain kind of conception." He knows. They know.
"Do our siblings share this affliction? Do you?" He shook his head.
"No. I do not."
"He is not my father."
"Listen to me." I tried to back off but he grabbed me. "This changes nothing. For any of us. We are here for you, as we shall always be." He put his forehead to mine and I just took in his scent, it was comforting. Just like him. He left me. I felt another wave of tears coming on but Elijah just pulled me into a real hug.
"Elijah. I'm sorry." I said before I heard someone else approach. I looked up to see Tatia. She stared at us before running off. "Elijah, your girl saw you, saw us." He looked up before walking after her.
"She is okay, I have already talked to her." He went after her and I stayed where I was, staring at the bodies. Six, just like he said. I sat down again and put on my top. Staring at my ring, I began to play with it, not knowing what else to do.
"Niklaus." I heard my mother speak and I shot up and stared at her. She looked at me before motioning me over to her. I shook my head and ran off. She couldn't see me this way, she'd be disappointed. I ran to the wolf camp that the Akatai had left behind. There was blood but it wasn't a wolf's blood it was a warrior's blood. I sat down in the big den and against the wall.
Eventually my mother came in too. "Niklaus, it's okay. Why are you here? Why don't you come home?" I shook my head.
"Mikael." She frowned before putting her hand to my cheek and wiped my face clean with a cloth she had.
"There we are, clean again. I don't blame you for what you did Niklaus. It was an accident." I stared at her and she smiled. "If it makes you feel better, I'll cook your choice of lunch." I didn't know what to do.
"Crystal hates me."
"She'll come around to like you again, I promise." She helped me up and led me to the house. I knew this route so well I could do it with my eyes closed, if I wouldn't run into trees. I smiled at my own joke. Then I frowned. I don't understand how I went from being upset about killing people to making jokes.
When we reached the house she sat me at the table and kissed my forehead before she went on with her chores. I got up a few times but she brought me a chess board. She smiled at me before moving on. I don't get it. Maybe she's keeping me inside and trying to keep it low key maybe because Mikael really was trying to kill me. Either way I was glad to not have to leave the house.
When it was dinner time, Mikael sat on the opposite side of the table than I was and kept glaring at me. Elijah and Rebekah kept trying to distract me from Mikael but I could keep my attention on both since he was in my peripheral vision.
Esther handed out plates and we began to eat. I slowly ate my food and Rebekah copied me. I smiled at her and she smiled back. Elijah smiled at us before Mikael cleared his throat. "Elijah, Rebekah. Why don't you two come over here and tell me how your day went?" They both ignored him. I cleaned my plate and got up and Rebekah cleaned hers and took our plates to the sink.
Soon everyone was done with their food and talking. Kol, Finn, and Rebekah were sent to bed without Elijah and I. I tried to go to bed but Mikael grabbed me, roughly. I winced but Elijah knocked his hand off with his own before Esther led us out into the night.
What happened next happened in a blur. I was hooked up to a cross and Mikael and Elijah held me there as Esther did a spell. The next thing I knew was part of me was missing and Mikael dragged Elijah home, telling him he had to go to bed. Esther walked home with Mikael, trying to help him. I stared after them and Elijah kept looking behind him at me. I had cried for Elijah's help but he helped Mikael.
