"Hello Sam" the man said, calmly walking towards him with a smile.

All Sam could do was stutter before finally squeaking out, "Ben?!" The man just smiled wider, standing in front of him. Sam choked and walked towards him, slowly picking up speed until he walked into him and hugged him. "Ben, man I never thought I'd see you again," he gasped through tears.

Ben nodded, choking back tears himself, "It's good to see you again" Ben sobbed, hugging him tighter. Sam desperately fought to get his tears under control as he hugged Ben.

Finally getting them under control he asked, "Would you like to meet my family?"

Ben nodded and slapped him on the back, "I would love to!" He responded.

Sam smiled and turned around walking back towards Jules and Sadie, who were both standing in the same place they were when Ben first walked in wearing identical confused expressions. Sam smiled at their confusion and stepped forward. "Jules, this is Ben. Ben, this Jules." Jules smiled and shook his hand. Sam then picked Sadie up, "And this is Sadie." Sadie gave him a toothy smile and waved.

Ben smiled and said, "She reminds me of my little sister."

Sadie apparently overheard that because she immediately piped up. "Can I meet her?!"

Ben gave her a half smile, "I'm afraid not, she died when I was in the army, but I'm sure she would have loved to meet you!"

Sadie gave him a half pouty face, "I wanted to meet her! Maybe we'll meet in heaven!" she said perking up.

"Maybe," Ben responded with a smile. "But you still have a long life ahead of you, it will be a while."

Sadie nodded quietly and walked back towards Jules, "Can we go see our room now?" Jules smiled and nodded, looking at Sam. Sam just nodded and tossed her one of the two room keys.

Sam walked down the hallway beside Ben, "So what happened after I left?" he asked quietly.

Ben sighed slowly, "Everything just fell apart. The team was already pretty shaken up after Matt, but then when you left it was like a grenade had been thrown into the group. Everyone started fighting and we couldn't keep it together for one training session, let alone a mission."

Sam sat down on a chair set in the hallway and put his head in his hands. "I should have never left you guys."

Ben sat down next to him, "It's not your fault Sam. You needed to get out of there and no one blamed you for that." Sam shook his head. "I started the mess, I should have stayed around to clean it up" Ben leaned forward, "It was not your fault that Matt was down there Sam, and it's time you stop blaming yourself."

Sam shook his head again, meeting Ben's gaze evenly. "I can't stop blaming myself, I killed my best friend!"

Ben shook his head, "Sam, the military looked into it after you left. Matt was not down there by coincidence. We caught one of the enemy troops, and they spilled the beans. The enemies General told Matt to kill you or be killed. From the pieces we have put together, Matt wanted to die out in the open, rather then in a dark cave somewhere with the enemy hovering over him."

"So he went out there on purpose?" Sam asked. Sam stared at Ben for a moment before he started to silently cry again.

Ben scooted closer and hugged him "It's okay Sam" he murmured over and over again.

Sam raised his head after a few minutes of crying. "So he went down there so I could kill him...?" Sam whispered softly. Ben nodded slowly through his tears, "Yes Sam, that is exactly what he did." Sam stood up slowly, walking a few paces away and leaned against the wall. His eyes were brimming with tears and he was doing his best to sniper breathe, but he was not doing a very good job.

Ben walked towards him slowly, "Sam you will see him again someday, but you have to live your life first. Matt would not want you to spend the rest of your life in mourning."

Sam looked at him slowly, a lone tear slipping down his cheek. "You're right." He whispered softly, wiping the tears off of his face and stepping forward. Raising his voice and doing his best to sound cheerful he said, "I'm going to go check in on Sadie and Jules. Do you want to come?" Ben smiled and nodded, walking beside him as they headed to the elevator.

"So, how has the military been treating you lately?" Sam asked, in an effort to make small talk.

"Not that bad, they wanted to make me a General, but I refused."

Sam stopped and stared at his friend. "Are you kidding me?! I can just see that! General Bentley Train of the JTF2." Sam said testing out the title on his tongue.

Ben laughed, "Not for me!"

Sam shook his head, laughing as they got on the elevator. Sam pushed the button for the top floor and leaned against the wall. The words "Well, I think you would have made a fine General." Were barely out of Sam's mouth when there was a loud crash and Sam could feel the building teeter and give way.

A/N yep, I gave you guys a cliffie :) enjoy! And be sure to leave me a review, they are always appreciated.
