A/N: I forgot I'd already done a Coldplay song when it occurred to me that "Violet Hill" was a natural fit for Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, which I tend to neglect as far as the M&L material goes. Oh well, it was too good an opportunity to pass up, so I didn't. The song is Toadsworth's POV, both as an old man literally reliving the past (italics) and a young man wondering why his older counterpart won't just tell him how it all ends (Toadsworth the Elder's thinking it, not saying it, after all), which is a pretty valid question, really.

Violet Hills

Was a long and dark adventure
Through the Time Holes I remember
There was snow, white snow
Both times I remember
With the Babies they were running
With the Toads down below
When the future's architectured
By an invasion of aliens on show
You'd better lie low
If you are me, won't you let me know?

Was a long and hard adventure
When the trees became vampires
And the Shroobs made the Yoob
Toadbert drew odd pictures
Ace reporter was a fixture
And a Star was scattered far
Buried us in rubble
When the Cruiser hit the ground
The old seer sighed, his prince survives
And if you are me, don't you also know?

I will never be a soldier
Just the keeper of the wayward king's
Young girl, whom they'd slaughter
So if you are me, why'd you let her go?

I took my love down from violet hills
Where we'd die in snow
All that time she was crying still
But if you are me, then I'm sure you know
If you are me, won't you let me know?
