A/N: I'm gonna take a few days break, I'm currently under the weather and the only reason this chapter got done was because I just rolled with it.
Chapter 6: Charmander and Vermilion City.
After returning to the Poke'Center both foreign trainers held true to their words and reported the Cerulean City Gym and, thanks to their names, the report seemed to be taken seriously and a full scale investigation would soon take place. They were assured that, regardless of what the investigation turns up, their wins would still be official, so no need to find another Pokemon Gym.
Afterwards they decided to hit up Route 24 again as well, as Route 25, to do more fishing. And they made out with quite the haul. Naruto caught a, rather large, shiny Magikarp and a Slowpoke. Ayumi caught a Buizel and a Poliwag. After that they did some training and, during that, one of Naruto's Pokemon accidentally struck a tree and a lone Slakoth fell out and just laid there contemplating life it seemed, and Naruto decided to catch it thinking it was poetic.
The Silverette managed to evolve her Luxio and Oddish, but other than that, no new additions were made. After their respective training, the duo had their Pokemon treated and had a restful night's sleep, they left out early the next morning headed for Vermilion City. It took three days to reach the halfway point, a Poke'Center in the middle of nowhere.
Nothing really of note worthy happened, other than Ayumi getting her Poliwag and Abra to evolve and for Naruto to work on his bonds with Buneary, Munchlax and Budew so they would evolve, with his Litwick finally nearing her evolution.
Currently, after a night's rest and a mornings breakfast, the two stood in the middle of one of the centers training fields discussing the training plans for the day, deciding to stay a day or two before moving on.
"Well I need to work on my friendships still and training Litwick is going to be slow, with how low level all other Pokemon are around here." Naruto lazily said while leaning against his staff, about ready to fall asleep.
"And I'll be working with Prinplup, Buizel, Kadabra, Poliwhirl and Gloom getting the latter two ready to evolve and the former two to evolve. Kadabra will be tricky as the easiest way to evolve them is to trade and I'm not going to do that." Ayumi said with finality at the end.
Nodding at that, seeing as he had his own Kadabra, he was about to suggest a plan, when a boy with blue hair with sunglasses resting atop, wearing a pink shirt and a cow-boy like vest walked up to him declared, "You the red in white! Name's Damien and I challenge you to a Pokemon Battle!"
Naruto stared at the boy lazily for about a minute, pissing off said boy, before responding in the same manner, "Sure." Before walking over towards his spot on the field.
After getting over his shock, Damien rushed to his spot. "Alright this will be a one v one! Go Charmander!" As soon as the Lizard Pokemon appeared, both Ayumi and Naruto stared at it realizing it didn't look well trained or trained at all.
Shaking his head Naruto called out his Buneary who appeared with a smile and hopped in place, looking ready to battling with her trainer.
Seeing the, to him, an unknown Rabbit Pokemon, sneered and said, "You think a stupid little fluffy bunny can stand up my Charmander, this match is in the bag."
Narrowing his eyes at the insulate towards his Pokemon and seeing Buneary lose her smile and stopped hopping, "You just screwed up royally. One thing my Buneary hates is someone insulting her wonderful fluff and for insulting my Pokemon, you won't get a chance to fight back. Buneary use Agility and unleash a barrage of Dizzy Punches."
Hopping at quickening speed she reached the Charmander in no time, before uncoiling her ears at the fire type, she hit it a total of five times in the front, before hopping over it and doing the same for the back. After another successful five hit combo, the Charmander had swirls in its eyes and just stumbled around.
Damien could only stare in shock at the pace of the battle. From the get go, he couldn't comprehend what was going on as one second he was insulting his opponent and the next, he had practically lossed. Scowling he issues out, "Come on you dumb Charmander, get a grip and use scratch now!"
Hearing how the boy spoke to his Pokemon and ordering it to attach, even though the match was practically over with, Ayumi discreetly brought out her Poke'Dex and started filming this as her instincts told her to and the fact Naruto shot her a look as well.
Back to the battle Buneary just stood out of reach and watched the Lizard Pokemon flail about and hitting itself in its confused state. She soon looked towards her trainer as if asking what to do.
Seeing the look, Naruto just said, "Just keep on using Agility to dodge and don't retaliate." Doing just that, she waited for anytime it seemed close to hitting her, she'd just flip over it or jump to the side, causing it to miss.
After a minute of this Charmander hit itself one final time and collapsed knocking itself out. Screaming and continuing to insult and demean his own Pokemon, he eventually recalled it and stormed off in the opposite direction of the Poke'Center.
"You catch all that on film?" Naruto asked.
"Yes I did. Should we follow him?" Was Ayumi's response.
"Yeah as I don't trust him not to do something harmful to Charmander." And with that, they followed him to a secluded spot in the woods, where he sent out Charmander and told him to wait on top of a rock and he'd be back for it later, before walking off, presumably, back to the Poke'Center.
Once he left the two rushed over to the Pokemon and tried to get it to come with them and get it to Nurse Joy to be treated, but the firey Pokemon wouldn't lessen and admittedly believe his trainer would return for it. With nothing left to try to do they treated it the best they could and left.
On their way back they were discussing of what to do about the Charmander and Damien.
"Let's not report him yet. I'll have Kurama secretly film him for as I want more incriminating evidence. After I feed Lilynette I'll have her keep watch over Charmander till we figure out how to convince it, that Damien won't come back to it." Naruto suggested.
'No worries daddy I'll try to explain what's going to him!" Lilynette said with a firey determination in her eyes.
"Leave it to me kit, I'll get the evidence one way or another!" Kurama said before giggling maliciously.
"Fine, but the moment he screws up am knocking him out!" She said cracking her knuckles. Seeing this Naruto took a couple of steps away from her.
"Uhh, deal?" Was his unsure answer. "Well let's get this started and get back to training."
After that, Lilynette and Kurama were feed and set out to do thier assign tasks, while Ayumi and Naruto returned to their training. The end results was Naruto's bonds deepening and his Litwick finally evolving into Lampent.
On Ayumi's end her Prinplup evolved into Empoleon and Buizel evolving into a Floatzel. Her Gloom, Poliwhirl and Kadabra were making leaps and bounds in their way to evolving as well.
Finally calling an end to their training for the day, they realized they lost track of time and missed lunch so currently they were in the cafeteria eating there dinner, while discussing the results of their training.
"Gloom and Poliwhirl are about ready to evolve and Empoleon and Floatzel are doing fantastic since evolving." Ayumi said with a smile.
"Yeah and Lampent is doing fine as well. And I think the other's are close to evolving as well." Naruto lazily said. Before sighing, "Kurama reported back earlier and said Damien's been bragging about what he did to other about Charmander and no one but us seems to care."
Scowling Ayumi replied, "He's definitely gonna get knocked out the next time we cross paths! Has Lilynette had any luck with Charmander?"
"No if it's one thing it's that Charmander is stubborn." More would have been said, but.
"Naruto! Ayumi! It's good to see you guys again!" Came the familiar voice of the raven haired boy know as Ash Ketchum, followed by Misty and Brock.
"Wow you two seem to have quite the appetite." Brock couldn't help but point out. Seeing ten towering bowls of Ramen and five bowls of Udon on the table.
"Yeah, we kinda lost track of time, during training and missed lunch." Naruto said sheepishly while scratching the back of his head.
"Hey where's Lilynette at?" Misty questioned not seeing her or a bowl for her anywhere.
"I currently have her watching over a Charmander that was abounded by it's trainer, after it lost a one-sided battle against me." Naruto answered, but lazily rose a brow at the sudden facial expressions. "I take it you found the Charmander and weren't able to convince it as well." It was a statement not a question.
"Yeah we tried bringing it with us to get treated, but it was determined to wait for its trainer." Ash sadly said unable to comprehend how someone could do something like that to a Pokemon.
"Wait if you two know, why haven't you done anything about it!" Misty angrily replied, only to be forced onto her knees and a blue hue covered her body.
"Watch your tone when talking to me like that. And for your information I have Kurama following Damien around filming for more damning evidence. And you seem to have forgotten about the fact I have Lilynette watching over Charmander as we speak." A deathly calm Naruto stated.
Seeing this Ayumi, Ash and Brock made a mental note to never, ever piss off Naruto. Misty was shaking like a leaf as she stared into the hollowed eyes of the redheaded Coyote.
Before anything else could happen an obnoxious laughter. The five turned to see a group of boys near the heating area with the familiar boy to the two foreign trainers, Damien in the middle with a large pile of Poke-balls on the table near them, "Look at all the Pokemon you have, Damien!" One of the guys said in awe.
"Yeah, these are a cool collection." Damien replied coolly with a smirk as what seemed to be his group agreed.
"Hey didn't you have a Charmander too?" Another asked.
"Yeah I had one, but the puny thing couldn't even win that many matches."
Misty, after getting up, scowled, "The nerve of that guy!"
"Charmander's are weak to water types, but when trained and raised with care, they can be incredibly strong." Brock said in agreement.
"So what did you do with it?"
"That stupid thing kept following me around, so I left it on some rock and told it I'd be back for it. Ain't no way I'm going back for that weak thing!" Damien said with a wide smirk and laughed about it.
Ash and Misty were appalled by what the blue haired had said, "How awful!" Was Misty's comment, before she saw Brock and Ayumi stand up and headed over to him. "Brock?"
Naruto said nothing as Ayumi stood up and followed Brock. He knew one thing, he was glad his uncle wasn't here as there probably wouldn't be a body left.
With twin frowns both trainers stood in front of the boy, as said boy's friends backed off in fear. He stopped laughing as he felt their presence and opened his recognizing the silverette, "What do you two want?!"
Brock yanked the boy up by the collar of his shirt and angrily said, "You're gonna get up and go get it now!"
The boy glared back at Brock, trying to hide his fear with anger, "Yeah and why should I? It WAS my Pokemon!"
Ayumi followed this up, "Because in this weather it will likely die! Do you really want that on your record?"
"As if! You have no proof I did anything and I'd just deny it, so you word against mine!"
With a fanged smirk Naruto spoke up, " That's what you think."
Hearing this Damien turned his attention towards Naruto, "Yeah so what!" Glaring at him as he replied.
"So what? So that!" Naruto answered while pointing at a floating Kurama who had a video camera pointing at him.
Seeing this Damien quickly turned pale and started stuttering, "W-What?! H-hey I was just kidding, I'd nev-"
He never got to finish as Ayumi decked him making him spin back at Naruto, who grabbed his head and delivered an RKO out of nowhere, knocking him out. Thankfully Kurama had stopped recording by the time Ayumi threw her punch.
"Not the way I thought of knocking him out, but it was better than how I was planning on. Thanks for the help Naruto." Ayumi said with a large smile on her face.
Waving her off, "Don't mention it. But we need to go get that Charmander and Lilynette out this weather!" Naruto said seriously.
Getting nods of agreement everyone ran out of the Center and made a bee line towards the Lizard Pokemon. Soon arriving at the location they saw Lilynette had put up a Psychic barrier around her and Charmander, blocking out the rain, but she was having trouble maintaining it as they were being attacked by Spearow.
"Kurama use Shadow Ball at the Spearow.!" Leaping out of the shadows Kurama launch a black and purple ball of energy at the birds, scaring them off temporarily.
"Pikachu use Iron Tail!" Ash called out as the yellow Mouse Pokemon ran up with its tail glowing before doing a front flip and slamming its tail into another group of Spearow scaring them off as well.
"We need to get Charmander back to the Poke'Center before anything irreversible happens to it!" Ayumi shouted over the pouring rain.
"Someone grab it and Lilynette and I will use our powers to keep the rain off of it as best we can!" Naruto shouted out the plan.
"Alright on it!" Ash said as he grabbed the fire type when Lilynette lowered the barrier enough to do so. As they were heading back Naruto and Lilynette kept the rain off them pretty well, but faltered a bit when more night Pokemon started attacking them.
"Kurama do your best and use Psychic to keep them at bay!" Naruto ordered.
Kurama floating beside his friend used his powers to send everything away from them.
"Pikachu use Quick Iron Tail and assistant Kurama!" Ash also ordered.
Pikachu started running faster than before, with his tail glowing before, periodically jumping at any other Pokemon that got past Kurama.
Soon enough the group made it back to the Poke'Center and quickly rushed up to Nurse Joy, startling her, before she saw the condition of the Charmander and quickly to it back to intensive care.
After a few hours Nurse Joy appeared and gave the good news, but started to scolding everyone about not caring for it better, till Naruto showed her the video and all the clips Kurama captured of Damien. Safe to say, she got a copy of the video and made a quick phone call.
After all that everyone called it a night and went to bed. The next morning they all met up in the lobby, only to end up witnessing Damien in hand cuffs being lead out by Officer Jenny, while all his Pokemon were confiscated by a fellow officer.
The happiness ended when they spoke with Nurse Joy, when she started that Charmander had snuck out, presumably back to its rock to continue waiting for its trainer.
They all headed back there as well, only for Team Rocket to make an appearance, but a quick Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt and a Flamethrower sent the three flying away. After that it seemed Charmander finally expected that it was abounded and wanted to go with Ash, who excepted and captured it.
Ayumi was not happy about that, as she thought Naruto should have got that honor as he did the most work out of caring for it. Ash only appeared at the crucial end, which was carrying it to the Poke'Center. Naruto just waved it off, even though he agreed with her, but as long as Charmander was cared for and was happy, then that was enough for him.
Afterwards they all said fair well as Ash and them headed off with Naruto and Ayumi staying another day for more training. Naruto swapped out his Lampent for his large shiny Magikarp as it was already close to evolving when he captured it. So with that he put an Exp.Share on it and could only wait.
On another note his Budew evolved into a Roselia and his Munchlax into a Snorlax. Buneary was still aways off apparently, but he was patient. He then swapped Snorlax out for his Slakoth, but kept his new Roselia to get her ready for her stone evolution.
Ayumi continued training her Pokemon getting them stone evolution Pokemon ready and her Kadabra seemed to be nearing his evolution to. After a days worth of training the foreign duo had their dinner and turned in for a night's slumber.
They departed the next morning and headed off to Vermilion City and, other than more training, the only notable thing that happened or had happened was a part of the forest had just apparently been burned down.
Both offered a quick prayer for any Pokemon life lost, then they continued on their way. It took the better part of the day before they reached Vermilion City in the early evening and headed towards the Poke'Center for a room for the night and a checkup on their Pokemon.
During their dinner they were deciding on who would first and what Pokemon they'd use.
"Not to sound like I'd always want to go first in Gym Battles, but I'd appreciate if you'd let me go first with Buneary as I'm hoping this will push for her to evolve." Naruto said with a quick scratch on the back of his head.
"I'm alright with that, me and Nidoking will make short work of any of his Pokemon." Ayumi said with a smirk of confidence.
"Thank you. By the way, do you know what the rules are? If I'm remembering correctly it's a one v one setting. And that his strongest Pokemon is a Raichu." Naruto pondered.
Nodding in agreement, Ayumi went on, "Yeah those are the rules alright, he actually reminds me a Gym Leader back home in a way." She thought off handle. "And judging from the amount of other trainers we saw on the way in, this will actually be a better challenge the Cerulean Gym was."
"Looking forward to it." Was all Naruto said before finishing his dinner with Ayumi finishing as well.
The next morning came faster than Naruto wanted, but he soon found himself, with Ayumi by his side, at the Vermilion City Gym. With a tired sigh, Naruto made his way inside and called, "We're here to challenge the Vermilion City Gym Leader for the Thunder Badge!"
Soon after that a large mountain of muscle mad its way over to them. "So which one is challenging me?" Before his eyes landed on Ayumi. "Well you're a cute little lady, but I'm not going to hold back." Was the man's comment.
Ayumi just blinked confusedly, "Um I am challenging you, but Naruto is as well and is going first."
This caused the man to turn his gazed the boy in question, and was surprised to see him looking at him bored and about to fall asleep. "Well the little fox kit looks more like he's ready for his nappy time." He said getting snickers and laughter from the group behind him.
"Oh trust me I've been ready for that from the moment I got up." Naruto said in a serious manner, causing the laughter to cease as they were waiting for a temper tantrum from the boy. "But that can wait a bit. Am I correct to assume that you are Lt. Surge?"
"Uhh... Um yeah I'm Lt. Surge the Gym Leader for Vermilion City." He admitted, not used to this type of reaction from an opponent he taunted and was expecting a volatile reaction that would make them slip up in battle.
"Thought so. Now let's hurry this up, you're already boring me." He stated with a yawn. This shocked everyone in the Gym, saved for Ayumi as she was trying not to laugh.
"What was that brat? I'm gonna fry you up good." Said a now angry Lt. Surge.
"Whatever. Talkings cheap, actions are where the money's at." Again punctuated with another yawn.
Angered Lt. Surge stormed his way to his side of the field and Sent out his Raichu.
Naruto made his way, lazily mind you, to his spot and sent out his Buneary. The moment she appeared everyone on the Gym Leader's side started laughing and Lt. Surge laughed a little.
"You think a punny little fluff bunny can stand up to my Raichu? Fox kit your just given me the match!" Surge stated and watched hoping for some type of reaction, only to see that Buneary had a narrowed look on her face and the lazy slouched redhead now straighten up and appeared extremely serious.
"And you just screwed yourself." Shocking everyone again, save Ayumi and pissing off Lt. Surge again.
"Alright Raichu fry that bunny with a Thunderbolt!" With a cry of its name fired off a large bolt of lightning at Buneary.
"Buneary counter it with your own Thunderbolt!" Copying her opponent, she fired off a bolt of lightning herself.
Both Thunderbolts collided with each other causing an explosion and sending up a dust cloud.
'Buneary use Agility and get in close and use Hyper Voice!' Naruto mentally commanded.
'Got it' She said back to him. She then took off in a series of bounces, getting faster as she goes. She soon made it close enough to let out a massive scream causing Raichu to recoil in pain and cover its ears.
"Raichu use a Thunder Punch and send it flying!" Lt. Surge roared and Raichu able to do what it was told to do, concentrated its lightning to its fist and slammed it into Buneary.
Screaming in pain, she was sent flying backwards, before skipping and rolling to a stop.
"Buneary are you alright?!" Naruto shouted in worry. But Buneary was able to start standing up, "Are you able to continue?" Buneary gave a fierce nod at that question, "Alright girl we can do this as I have the utmost faith in you. We can win this together!"
Hearing this, Buneary stopped for a moment and realized that lazy redhead was serious about befriending her. She thought that moment she was captured, she would just be another part of his collection. Just another tool to be used and not really being cared for. Sure he treated her right and feed her wonderful food. But she always had the list lingering fear of being tossed aside at a moments notice.
But now she knew that wasn't gonna happen and that the love and care he showed her with was real. So with that thought she gave a fierce scream and her body started to glow. Once the glow died down and in Buneary's place is a bipedal, rabbit-like Pokémon with a dark brown fur and a short, round tail. It has pink eyes with black markings on the inner edge, long tufts of pink-colored fur above its eyes, and a small, pink nose. Its long ears, which bend shortly above its head, end in fluffy, pink-colored fur. Its head, body, and hips are covered in dark brown fur, while its wrists and lower legs are covered in fluffy, pink-colored fur similar to its ears.
"Lop Lopunny!" The newly evolved Lopunny cried out and was ready to finish this battle.
"Alright lets end this quickly and go and celebrate this! Lopunny use Agility and get in close, while being mindful of its attacks!" Naruto cheered and ordered.
"Punny!" Doing as instructed she gave off powerful bounces and had reached Raichu far faster then they thought she would.
"Raichu use Thunder Punch again!"
Raichu charged up its attack again and went to punch the Rabbit Pokemon, but was unprepared for dexterity and flexibility she now has, as she easily summersault over the Mouse Pokemon and landed behind it.
'Lopunny use Dizzy Punch follow up with a Jump Kick!' was Naruto's mental commands.
'You got it sweetie!' she thought back before she unleashed a barrage of punches and jumped back after a dozen or so punches landed. She quickly crouched and put her new leg muscles to the test as she lunched herself towards Raichu and delivered a hell of a kick to the back of its head.
After landing Lopunny did a few flips before land in front of her trainer and waited to see if it got back up. When it didn't the referee that suddenly appeared announced.
"Raichu is unable to continue therefore the winner of the is Lopunny and Naruto of the Alola Region!"
"We did it Lopunny! You we-!" Naruto didn't get to finish as Lopunny tackled him into a hug and nuzzled him, before letting go and jumped around and cheered in their victory.
As he laid on the ground, contemplated going to sleep or not, he saw Ayumi approached, "That was a great battle Naruto and congratulations Lopunny for evolving!" Ayumi cheered. Now it's my turn!"
"Good luck Ayumi, but something tells me you don't need it and this will be over shortly." Naruto responded back with a lazed smirk.
"I gotta say Naruto you not only defeated my strongest Pokemon, but gave me a taste of my own medicine. Congratulations." Lt. Surge said with a smile, before turning his attention to Ayumi, " Now little lady are going to give just as an excited mach?" He soon questioned.
"Trust me this will be over quickly." She said with a challenging smirk.
"We'll see, go Electrode!" Lt. Surge exclaimed.
"Go Nidoking!" Ayumi shouted as she sent out her extra large Nidoking.
Whistling Lt. Surge couldn't help but say, " Wow didn't expect such a little lady to have such a large and fierce Pokemon. But it won't be enough, Electrode Sonic boom!"
"Nidoking tank it and use Earthquake!" Nidoking didn't seem fazed by the attack, before it slammed its feet into the ground causing everyone to brace themselves as the entire arena shook. This caused enough damage to Electrode to cause itself to self destruct causing a dust cloud and as soon as it was cleared everyone saw a knocked out Pokemon.
"Electrode is unable to continue and winners of the match are Nidoking and Ayumi of the Sinnoh Region!" The referee announced.
"Good job Nidoking that was quick and to the point." Ayumi praised and Nidoking let out a roar of victory.
Naruto made his way over and offered his congratulations to the two, before Lt. Surge made his way over. "I gotta say you two are the definition of 'Not Judging a Book by its Cover' and for you victories I present you both with the Thunder Badge! He said with a smile and handed both their badges.
"Thank you Lt. Surge it was a great battle!" The both said at the same time, without really noticing.
Lt. Surge and the rest of his group laughed at this and wished the the best of luck with their future Gym Battles. After that they both headed for the Poke'Center to get their Pokemon check out and be ready for the next day, not yet knowing that it could be their last.
