Chapter 23
Deeks woke up to now very familiar lips pressing soft kisses on his neck, and a curvy body on top of him; her hair tickled his nose and a wide smile began growing on his face.
"This is usually how the dream sequence starts." He drawled cheekily, making her laugh quietly and nip at a spot under his ear. Deeks shivered slightly. "Please tell me this isn't a dream. Tell me that when I open my eyes you're really here, and last night actually happened. Because, if this all really is a dream I'm gonna go jump off something." He said, almost completely serious.
"It's not a dream." She replied softly in his ear.
Deeks smiled and, eyes still closed, he flipped them over. He could feel her curves underneath him, could smell her sweet scent everywhere. Her arms were wrapped around his neck and teasing at his hair.
It was everything he wanted.
Slowly Deeks opened his eyes and confirmed that yes, last night happened. And one Kensi Blye was there: lying underneath him in his bed.
A wave of possessiveness, something deep and primitive, rolled through his body and his smile grew wider and his eyes darker. "And this is how the dream usually continues." Deeks teased, brushing a bit of hair out of her eyes.
Kensi rolled her eyes and pinched the back of his neck. "Shut up, Deeks." She replied playfully.
"I can't believe you're awake before me. Are you feeling okay?" He grinned.
"No, I'm starving. All I had last night was that tub of ice cream." Kensi pouted.
Deeks couldn't help it; he burst out laughing. "That would be the only reason you would be up before me." He chuckled.
"Yup. Now, you should make your girlfriend some pancakes." Kensi grinned.
"And here I thought you woke me up because you wanted my body." Deeks winked.
"Nope. Just your cooking skills." She teased.
"Ouch. That hurts, Fern. Right in my soul. How will I ever recover?" He pouted.
"I hear cooking can be very therapeutic." Kensi laughed.
"My sense of humor is rubbing off on you." Deeks commented proudly.
"I am hilarious, thank you." Kensi snapped half-heartedly.
"Yea, no, see me and Nell discussed it and have agreed you are not even close to hilarious." Deeks informed her quite seriously.
"That hurt, Shaggy. Right in my soul. How will I ever recover?" She teased, throwing his words back at him.
"I hear cooking can be very therapeutic." Deeks grinned.
They both laughed before falling silent, relishing in their little moment. Deeks was over the moon; Kensi actually wanted him. She was actually his. And he was hers.
Well, he mused, he'd always been hers, it's just official now.
Deeks didn't think he could get any happier.
"We should probably get up; Leo might already be awake and he'll come in here and I don't think my three year old needs to see Daddy on top of Kens while she tries to seduce him into cooking." He teased lightly, pressing soft kisses to her jawline.
"He's asleep, I checked on him before I woke you up." Kensi replied.
That drew the man's attention away from kissing her skin. He quirked an eyebrow as the words pulled at something in his chest. "You... you checked on Leo?" He asked quietly.
Kensi blushed slightly, surprising Deeks even more. "Umm, yeah... it's sort of a habit now. He had a few bad dreams while you were away, and I kinda started checking on him if I was awake and in the morning before I got ready for work. And I really didn't even think about it I just kinda... did it." She finished lamely.
Deeks shook his head slightly, in wonder, at her. Kensi glanced away from him, before her traitorous eyes were drawn back to his baby blues. He was staring at her with a soft, yet intense, gaze; an emotional sparkle in his eyes.
"What?" She asked softly, nervously.
He spent a moment debating her reaction, a smile or a punch, to the comment on the tip of his tongue. Deeks titled his head at her before deciding to take his chances anyway.
"Nothing, it's just, uh... it's just that seems like a very motherly thing to do. Something I don't think Rachel actually ever did." Deeks told her softly.
Kensi bit her lip, and was silent for a few moments; her partner could tell that there was something on her mind. "What's goin' on in that pretty head of yours, Kens?" He inquired.
"Leo called me Mommy while you were away." Kensi confessed.
Deeks' eyebrows rose in surprise. But when he thought about it, it wasn't really that much of a surprise; Kensi had been in the little boy's life for a while, and she was more loving towards Leo than Rachel, his own mother, was.
The thought of Kensi being a mommy to his son made his heart clench powerfully. "How... how did you take it? I mean... you probably were really uncomfortable. I'm sorry; I'll try to um... I'll try to talk to him, explain some things." Deeks rambled.
Kensi got a curious look on her face as she stared at him. "Wait, that's what you're worried about? Me maybe being uncomfortable?" She asked.
"Well... yea, I mean I don't wanna put you in a position that would be awkward for you." He shrugged.
"I was more worried about what you would think. I mean, I have no right to be called that; I'm not his mom." Kensi said sadly. "But it... it kinda felt good. And I explained to him I wasn't really his mom and I think it hurt me more than him." She admitted.
Deeks was shocked; he never expected Kensi to have this kind of emotion about not being Leo's real mother. "I'm sorry you had to do that, if I'd been here..." He trailed off.
"I know. And it's alright. I just, I didn't want him to think that it really was me and then me mess up and then he'd have two mothers disappoint him." Kensi explained.
"Kens you wouldn't mess up, nothing drastic anyway; I mean, no one is a perfect parent. But you are a natural with him." Deeks assured her.
His words made her smile. "Thank you, Deeks. I tried my best, taking care of him while you were away."
"Thank you." He replied, leaning down and pressing his lips to hers.
Deeks felt her smile into the kiss, and his lips tugged upwards in a smile as well. As he kissed her, he pictured her being a mother; to Leo and to more kids. Kids that were part of her and part of him. His heart soared at the thought. He wanted that. He hoped she did too.
The sound of Kensi's stomach rumbling drew the two apart, both laughing quietly. "I believe pancakes were requested of me." Deeks smirked.
"Yeah, you should get on that Shaggy." She grinned.
He dropped his lips to hers once more before pulling away and getting up. Deeks didn't bother putting a shirt on, just walking away in his sweat pants. He paused at the door of the bedroom and turned around, looking at her.
"Hey Kensi?" He called.
She sat up a bit in bed, eyebrows raised curiously.
"If Rachel hadn't... if I could choose who I really wanted to be Leo's mother, it'd be you." Deeks told her softly, a loving look on his face.
Kensi's jaw dropped a little as he smiled at her and turned on his heel; headed towards the kitchen. Her? Deeks would choose her of all people, Kensi thought. She couldn't imagine why he'd want it to be her, but her heart pounded wildly in her chest at the thought of having kids with Deeks; of being a mother to Leo.
Kensi was pretty sure she wanted that, maybe not right in that moment; not the new kids, but maybe she could handle Leo. And sometime in the future, if she and Deeks could work like she believed they could, Kensi definitely wanted it.
Deeks was almost done with breakfast when he felt two arms wrap around him from behind, clutching to him. He smiled softly as he flipped another pancake, one hand holding the spatula and his free hand resting on top of hers.
Kensi nuzzled her head into his bare back and smiled softly. Deeks leaned into her touch and the two reveled in the silence. It was peaceful, and to the two agents everything felt... right.
"I wish I was Leo's mom..." Kensi whispered softly.
He grinned at her words, but didn't respond; Deeks knew it didn't require a response.
There was a radio playing softly on the counter, and Kensi started swaying them back and forth to the music.
"Smells good..." She commented, her stomach rumbling.
"Think you can hold off for a few more minutes, Fern? Or do I need to hurry up and feed you before you turn into a vicious monster?" Deeks teased.
"Ha ha, Shaggy. I can wait." Kensi retorted, poking his side.
A faster beat song came on the radio and Deeks grinned. "Dance with me!" He exclaimed, turning the music up louder. The man put his spatula down and made sure none of the food would burn before he turned and offered his hands to Kensi.
"Right now?" She laughed lightly.
"Kensalina, now is always the right time to dance." Deeks smiled charmingly.
He saw she needed some persuading, and with a wild grin he grabbed her hands and wiggled the two of them around. She burst out laughing at his ridiculous dance moves, but went along with it. Deeks and Kensi made fools of themselves, dancing horribly, but neither could bring themselves to care; they were together, alive and happy, and nothing else mattered.
Deeks pulled her closer, wrapping one arm around her waist and taking one hand in his; a slow dance pose, but moving to the fast beat. Kensi laughed again as he dipped her low, grinning down at her.
"So where these the moves that worked on all the ladies back in the day?" Kensi teased her partner.
He rolled his eyes playfully, keeping her in the low dip. "They worked on you didn't they?" He shot back, reminding her of the night they went out to dinner with Leo and they'd danced.
"Touché." Kensi grinned.
Deeks' eyes widened in shock. "Kensi Blye did you just correctly use the word 'touché'?" He asked.
"Maybe, maybe not." She laughed.
"What yous guys doin?" Leo's voice broke up their moment.
Both their eyes fell to the little boy, sleepily rubbing his eyes and holding his precious lion in the other hand. "Hey buddy," Deeks smiled, placing Kensi back on her feet before reaching for his son. The man lifted him up and placed him on his hip, smiling.
"Kensi and I were dancing." Deeks explained happily.
"Can I dance too Daddy?" Leo pouted.
"Of course buddy." The man chuckled.
"How about I do the dancing while Daddy does the cooking?" Kensi grinned.
"Cuz Daddy's the jeff?" Leo inquired.
"Because Daddy's the chef." She confirmed, reaching for him.
Leo giggled and practically fell into her arms, wrapping his tiny ones around her neck. Kensi smiled brightly at him before dancing them all around the kitchen; causing Leo to erupt into fits of nonstop giggles.
Deeks grinned at them as he placed the last pancake on the plate before turning to them. He leaned against the counter and just watched for a moment; his heart swelling with love at the sight of his partner, in both job and life now, and his son.
The two people he loved most.
